  • PHP Form - Edit & Delete via Text File Db

    - by Jax
    hi, I pieced together the script below from various tutorials, examples, etc... Right now the script currently: Saves Id, Name, Url with a "|" delimiter to a text file Db like: 1|John|http://www.john.com| 2|Mark|http://www.mark.com| 3|Fred|http://www.fred.com| But I'm having a hard time trying to make the "UPDATE" and "DELETE" buttons work. Can someone please post code which will: let me update/save any changed data for that row (for UPDATE button) let me delete that row (for DELETE button) PLEASE copy n paste the code below and try for yourself. I would like to keep the output format of the script below too. thanks D- $file = "data.txt"; $name = $_POST['name']; $url = $_POST['url']; $data = file('data.txt'); $i = 1; foreach ($data as $line) { $line = explode('|', $line); $i++; } if (isset($_POST['submits'])) { $fp = fopen($file, "a+"); fwrite($fp, $i."|".$name."|".$url."|\n"); fclose($fp); } ? '); } ?

  • php foreach as variable

    - by user167850
    I'd like to use foreach to loop though an array list and add an element to each array. $tom = array('aa','bb','cc'); $sally = array('xx','yy','zz'); $myArrays = array('tom','sally'); foreach($myArrays as $arrayName) { ${$arrayName}[] = 'newElement'; } Is the use of ${$arrayName}[] the best way to do this? Is there another option rather than using curly braces? It currently works but I'm just wondering if there is a better alternative. Thanks

  • Parsing EXIF's "ExposureTime" using PHP

    - by MarkL
    Re, One photo with exposure being 1/640 has the EXIF field of "ExposureTime" eq. "15625/10000000". I am not sure why some photos display this value in a readable format (e.g., "1/100"), but I need to convert this "15625" back to "1/640". How? :) Thanks.

  • PHP Global variable in class is reset

    - by Robert
    I have a web form that manipulates records in a MySQL database. I have a method for displaying an edit interface for both creating new records and editing them if ($_POST['new_page']) { print "<h2>Create new page</h2>\n"; $isNew=1; $this->EditForm(); } else if($_POST['edit']){ print "<h2>Edit page</h2>\n"; $isNew=0; $this->EditForm(); } I am trying to use the global variable $isNew to determine where a record is to be added or updated. However, whenever my SaveChanges() function is run, $isNew is always 0. $isNew is declared immediately after the class declaration, outside all of the functions. class Editor{ public $isNew;

  • php and mysql user tracking and reporting

    - by inertiahz
    Hi, I currently have a table which consists of user information and lesson id; the table layout looks like: ---------------------------------------------------- |employeeID|numVisits|lessonID1|lessonID2|lessonID3| ---------------------------------------------------- |33388 |2 |1 |0 |3 | and a lessons table which contains the information about the lesson: ------------------------------------------------------ |lessonID |cateogry |title |filepath |numberviews| ------------------------------------------------------ |1 |beginner |lesson |file:// |10 | Within the lessonID fields in the user table is an integer which tracks how many times someone has clicked on a lesson. Now what I am trying to do is in a report I have the top 5 people who have visited the site and would like to then be able to drill down into what lessons they have clicked on. Can anyone help with this? Or would restructuring the way the database is be an easier task? Thanks

  • second sorting with php usort

    - by bluedaniel
    So Ive got a pretty big array of data and need to sort them by two criteria. There is variable $data['important'] and $data['basic']. They are simple numbers and I am using uasort to sort $data firstly by important and then by basic. So Important | Basic 10 | 8 9 | 9 9 | 7 7 | 9 The usort function is a simple public function sort_by_important($a, $b) { if ($a[important] > $b[important]) { return -1; } elseif ($b[important] > $a[important]) { return 1; } else { return 0; } } How can I re-sort the array to the second variable and keep the Important ordering? Thanks everyone. EDIT How about adding a third sorting option after this even? So Important Basic Less

  • mySQL php query - news/ friends feed

    - by rpsep2
    I want to show a user the recent uploads from their friends. I have the users friends id's in an array: $friends A user could have, potentially, thousands of friends. I can select the uploads from 1 of a users friends with: $row = $mysqli->query("SELECT * FROM photos WHERE uploader_id = ".$friend." ORDER BY date_uploaded DESC LIMIT ".$page.", 25"); But I need to find all of a users friends uploads. I thought about doing this in a loop iterating over the $friends array, but then I'd be potentially running thousands of mysql queries. How can I do this most efficiently? so to clarify: search a 'photos' table for photos which are uploaded by specific users(friends), held in $friends variable, sort by date_uploaded and limit to x results so I can have pages 1, 2, 3 etc.

  • Using array instead of lots of db queries in PHP

    - by Tural Teyyuboglu
    My function looks like that. It works but does lots of work (recursively calls itself and does lots of db queries.). There must be another way to do same thing but with array (with one query). I can't figure out how to modify this function to get it work with array. Please help. function genMenu($parent, $level, $menu, $utype) { global $db; $stmt=$db->prepare("select id, name FROM navigation WHERE parent = ? AND menu=? AND user_type=?") or die($db->error); $stmt->bind_param("iii", $parent, $menu, $utype) or die($stmt->error); $stmt->execute() or die($stmt->error); $stmt->store_result(); /* bind variables to prepared statement */ $stmt->bind_result($id, $name) or die($stmt->error); if ($level > 0 && $stmt->num_rows > 0) { echo "\n<ul>\n"; } while ($stmt->fetch()) { echo "<li>"; echo '<a href="?page=' . $id . '">' . $name . '</a>'; //display this level's children genMenu($id, $level+1, $menu, $utype); echo "</li>\n\n"; } if ($level > 0 && $stmt->num_rows > 0) { echo "</ul>\n"; } $stmt->close(); }

  • PHP - Pass POST variables with header()?

    Hi, I'm trying to use the header() function to create a redirect. I would like to display an error message. Currently I'm sending the message as a parameter through the URL, however this makes it look quite ugly. Is there a way to pass this value as a post variable instead? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

  • PHP - Drilling down Data and Looping with Loops

    - by stogdilla
    I'm currently having difficulty finding a way of making my loops work. I have a table of data with 15 minute values. I need the data to pull up in a few different increments $filters=Array('Yrs','Qtr','Day','60','30','15'); I think I have a way of finding out what I need to be able to drill down to but the issue I'm having is after the first loop to cycle through all the Outter most values (ex: the user says they want to display by Hours, each hour should be able to have a "+" that will then add a new div to display the half hour data, then each half hour data have a "+" to display the 15 minute data upon request. Now I can just program the number of outputs for each value (6 different outputs) just in-case... but isn't there a way I can make it do the drill down for each one in a loop? so I only have to code one output once and have it just check if there are any more intervals after it and check for those? I'm sure I'm just overlooking some very simple way of doing this but my brain isn't being clever today. Sorry in advance if this is a simple solution. I guess the best way I could think of it as a reply on a form. How you would check to see if it's a reply of a reply, and then if that reply has any replys...etc for output. Can anyone help or at least point me in the right direction? Or am I stuck coding each possible check? Thanks in advance!

  • PHP readdir() not returning files in alphabetical order

    - by Buggabill
    I am reading through a directory with some pictures and such using a pretty simple implementation of readdir() like the following: if ($handle = opendir($path)) { while (false !== ($szFilename = readdir($handle))) { if ($szFilename[0] !== '.') { if (is_file($path.$szFilename)) { // do stuff } } } } The problem that I am having is that the files are not being read in alphabetical order as the docs for readdir() state: Returns the filename of the next file from the directory. The filenames are returned in the order in which they are stored by the filesystem. Another weird thing is that, on the local testing server, the same code works great. This is running on a server using the LAMP stack in both cases. I know that I can build an array and just sort it, but I was wondering if I was missing something in what I was doing. Thanks for any insight!

  • Check variable if explode-able in PHP

    - by ZaneDeFazio
    Not sure if there is a way to check a variable if it is explode-able or not... I have a database of city names some are one word cities and some are multiple word cities EX: Chicago, Los Angeles I keep getting an error when use "implode" when a city name is one word, so I tried using "count" and using an if statement... not having any luck $citi = explode(' ', $row['city']); $count = count($citi); if ($count > 1) { $city = implode('+', $citi); } else { $city = $citi; }

  • How to check with PHP does a SQL database already have

    - by Dan Horvat
    I've tried to find the answer to this question but none of the answers fit. I have two databases, one has 15.000.000 entries and I want to extract the necessary data and store it in a much smaller database with around 33.000 entries. Both databases are open at the same time. Or at least they should be. While having the big database open and extracting the entries from it, is it possible to check whether the value already exists in the smaller database? I just need some generic way which checks that.

  • Change date format (in DB or output) to dd/mm/yyyy - PHP MySQL

    - by Jess
    MySQL stores the date in my database (by default) as 'YYYY-MM-DD' The field type for my date is 'DATE' (I do not need any time storage).. Is there a simple way to change it by default to DD/MM/YYYY ? I call up different dates in 2 different tables, and no where in any of my code do I have anything resembling a date variable or anything! Hopefully this is a straight forward change?

    i have an paragraph and user will search inside that and if the search term has 3 matches inside but all are in 3 different places ex World War II, or the Second World War[1] (often abbreviated WWII or WW2), was a global military conflict lasting from 1939 to 1945 which involved most of the world's nations, including all of the great powers, organised into two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis. It was the most widespread war in history, with more than 100 million military personnel mobilised. In a state of "total war," the major participants placed their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities at the service of the war effort, erasing the distinction between civilian and military resources. Marked by significant action against civilians, including the Holocaust and the only use of nuclear weapons in warfare, it was the deadliest conflict in human history,[2] with over seventy million casualties. i have to search "war" so that it should display like World War II, or the Second World War[1].....In a state of "totalwar,".... some thing like this ///
