So within "flight", a record definitely exists with this Id. But, this still gives me a non-array result, so that when I try to use foreach on it, it errors out. Suggestions?

But if I look in PHPMyAdmin, I see the accents correctly. What's happening?

  • how to handle exceptions/errors in php?

    when using 3rd part libraries they tend to throw exceptions to the browser and hence kill the script. eg. if im using doctrine and insert a duplicate record to the database it will throw an exception. i wonder, what is best practice for handling these exceptions. should i always do a try...catch? but doesn't that mean that i will have try...catch all over the script and for every single function/class i use? Or is it just for debugging? i don't quite get the picture. Cause if a record already exists in a database, i want to tell the user "Record already exists". And if i code a library or a function, should i always use "throw new Expcetion($message, $code)" when i want to create an error? Please shed a light on how one should create/handle exceptions/errors. Thanks

  • mySQL php query - news/ friends feed

    I want to show a user the recent uploads from their friends. I have the users friends id's in an array: $friends A user could have, potentially, thousands of friends. I can select the uploads from 1 of a users friends with: $row = $mysqli->query("SELECT * FROM photos WHERE uploader_id = ".$friend." ORDER BY date_uploaded DESC LIMIT ".$page.", 25"); But I need to find all of a users friends uploads. I thought about doing this in a loop iterating over the $friends array, but then I'd be potentially running thousands of mysql queries. How can I do this most efficiently? so to clarify: search a 'photos' table for photos which are uploaded by specific users(friends), held in $friends variable, sort by date_uploaded and limit to x results so I can have pages 1, 2, 3 etc.

    Dear all, I would like to ask for how to redirect to previous page (ajax paging). Example, Let's say currently I am in page 5, then I click on one record, after I edit it, I would like to go back to that page 5 not page 1. The problem is my paging is using ajax, http://domain/photo/#5 I try to use $_SERVER[http_referer], but I only get http://domain/photo , I not able to get # and the value. What is the best way to redirect back to the previous paging. My last choice is using $_SESSION. Hope I can get better answer here. Thx.

  • Writing a PHP web crawler using cron

    Hi all I have written myself a web crawler using simplehtmldom, and have got the crawl process working quite nicely. It crawls the start page, adds all links into a database table, sets a session pointer, and meta refreshes the page to carry onto the next page. That keeps going until it runs out of links That works fine however obviously the crawl time for larger websites is pretty tedious. I wanted to be able to speed things up a bit though, and possibly make it a cron job. Any ideas on making it as quick and efficient as possible other than setting the memory limit / execution time higher?

I have strings in this format: $s1 = "name1|type1"; //(pipe is the separator) $s2 = "name2|type2"; $s3 = "name3"; //(in some of them type can be missing) Let's assume namen/typen are strings and they can not contain a pipe. Since I need to exctract the name/type separetly, I do: $temp = explode($s1, '|'); $name = $temp[0]; $type = ( isset($temp[1]) ? $temp[1] : '' ); Is there an easier (smarter whatever faster) way to do this without having to do isset($temp[1]) or count($temp).     i need a pattern which satisfies mysql field names, but also with the option of having a table name before it examples: mytable.myfield myfield my4732894__7289FiEld here's what i tried: $pattern = "/^[a-zA-Z0-9_]*?[\.[a-zA-Z0-9_]]?$/"; this worked for what i needed before, which was just the field name: $pattern = "/^[a-zA-Z0-9_]*$/"; any ideas why my addition isnt working? maybe i'm making up regex, so i'll explain what i added... the first '?' is to say that it isn't greedy, ie. it will stop if the next part, namely "[.[a-zA-Z0-9_]]?" is satisfied. now, that second part is just the same as the first except it is optional (hence the '?' at the end) and it starts with a period (hence the '[.' and ']' wrapping my old clause. and obviously, the "^" and "$" rep the beginning and end of the string so... any ideas? (also, i'm a tad confused as to why i need to put in those "/"s in the begining/end anyways, so if you could tell me why it's required, that'd be awesome) thanks a lot! (and thanks for reading this all if you actually did... it's quite a ramble)

    I have a site that uses cURL to access some pages, stores the returned results in variables, and then uses these variables within its own page. The script works well except where the target cURL page has a header('Location: ...') command inside it. It seems to just ignore this header command. The cURL command is as follows... //Load result page into variable so portions can be allocated to correct variables $ch = curl_init(); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $url); # URL to post to curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1 ); # return into a variable curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HEADER, 0); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, true); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, $postfields); $loaded_result = curl_exec( $ch ); # run! curl_close($ch); I've tried changing the CURLOPT_HEADER to 1 but it doesn't do anything. So how can I allow script redirection within the target urls using cURL to grab the results? By the way, the pages work fine if accessed other than via cURL but iFrames are not an option in this instance.

    Hi Everyone! Ok so I got this piece of vendor software that they said should be run on an apache php server and MySql database. I didn't have either of those so I put it on a PHP IIS server and I converted the code to work on SQL server. ex. mysql_select_db - mssql_select_db (among other things) So I have the following code in a php file $query = "SELECT * FROM TableName WHERE KEY_FIELD = '".$keyField."';"; $result = mssql_query($query); $arr = array(); while ( $obj = mssql_fetch_object($result) ) { $arr[] = $obj; } echo '{"results":'.json_encode($arr).'}'; and my results look something like this (captured with fiddler 2) {"results":[{"KEY_FIELD":"57", "My30characterlongfieldthatiscu":"GoodValue"}]} "My30characterlongfieldthatiscu" should be "My30characterlongfieldthatiscutoff" Kinda weird, no? The vendor claims that the app works perfectly on their end. I'm thinking this is some sort of IIS PHP limit, is there a way around it or can I expand it? I found this solution http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.mssql.php#74834 but I don't understand it. Thanks!

    Hello I'm getting a bunch of weird html output in users messages e.g. \u0644\u064a\u0646\u0643 \u0627\u0644 \u0639\u0627\u0645\u0644 I assume their aribic characters decoded? How can I perhaps preg replace all these codes with something a little more useful? because search results are filled with pages and pages of this stuff Perhaps even display them as they're supposed to be?   • php soapclient returns null but getPreviousResults has proper results

    I've ran into trouble with SOAP, I've never had this issue before and can't find any information on line that helps me solve it. The following code $wsdl = "path/to/my/wsdl"; $client = new SoapClient($wsdl, array('trace' => true)); //$$textinput is passed in and is a very large string with rows in <item></item> tags $soapInput = new SoapVar($textinput, XSD_ANYXML); $res = $client->dataprofilingservice(array("contents" => $soapInput)); $response = $client->__getLastResponse(); var_dump($res);//outputs null var_dump($response);//provides the proper response as I would expect. I've tried passing params into the SoapClient constructor to define soap version but that didnt' help. I've also tried it with the trace param set to false and not present which as expected made $response null but $res was still null. I've tried the code on both a linux and windows install running Apache. The function definition in the WSDL is (xxxx is for security reasons) <portType name="xxxxServiceSoap"> <operation name="dataprofilingservice"> <input message="tns:dataprofilingserviceSoapIn"/> <output message="tns:dataprofilingserviceSoapOut"/> </operation> </portType> I have it working using the __getLastResponse() but its annoying me it will not work properly.   • PHP sql with foreach loop variable problem

    This is really getting frustrating. I have a text file that I'm reading for a list of part numbers that goes into an array. I'm using the following foreach function to search a database for matching numbers. $file = file('parts_array.txt'); foreach ($file as $newPart) { $sql = "SELECT products_sku FROM products WHERE products_sku='" . $newPart . "'"; $rs = mysql_query($sql); $num_rows = mysql_num_rows($rs); echo $num_rows; echo "<br />"; } The problem is I'm getting 0 rows returned from mysql_num_rows. I can type the sql statement without the variable and it works perfectly. I can even echo out the sql statement from this script, copy and paste the statement from the browser and it works. But, for some reason I'm not getting any records when I'm using the variable. I've used variables in sql statements tons of times, but this really has me stumped.
