• Nested RDP and ILO sessions, latency and keystroke repetition.

  I'm working on a remote server installation entirely through ILO. Due to the software application and environment, my access is restricted to a Windows server that I must access through RDP. Going from that system to the target server is accomplished via HP ILO3. I'm trying to run a CentOS installation in an environment where I can't use a kickstart. I'm doing this via text mode, but the keystrokes are repeating randomly and it's difficult to select the proper installation options. I'm doing this using Microsoft's native RDP client (on Mac and Windows). I've also noticed this before when running installations or doing remote work in nested sessions. Is there a nice fix for this, or it it simply a function of the protocol?

• Run Windows batch file on schedule as non-Administrator user

  I'm running Windows XP x64 SP2. I have a Windows batch file that with some Robocopy commands that I want to run on schedule. I created a scheduled task for it, running as a dedicated user (not the user I'm logged on as), but it simply did not run. I could see successful logon events in the security log, so it got that far, but the commands in the batch file definitely weren't getting executed. After reading through all of http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winservermanager/thread/d47d116e-10b9-44f0-9a30-7406c86c2fbe/ I tried making the target user account an Administrator and that fixed it - the batch file ran just fine. Nothing else seemed to work. The thing is, I want it to run under a low-privileged account. Does anyone know how can I get a batch file to run on schedule as a non-Administrator?

• Windows Server 2008R2 IIS7.5, Requests getting 401 status

  We have a web site running in windows server 2008r2 iis7.5 and we are seeing several errors reported from our global error handler saying that "Request Timed Out". I matched up one to the IIS log file and see the request took 135116 (presumably milliseconds) had an sc-status of 401 an sc-sub0status of 0 and an sc-win32-status of 64. 2 requests failed in these way but lots of surrounding requests (1979 successful requests vs 2 fails) for the same user went through perfectly fine- with the same cs-username which makes a 401 seem a little odd. The target of the requests is an ASP.Net web service's web method called by the .net client library- it's called a lot of times per user (3 times per second) to keep a page updated. We're getting some users reportng seeing a freezing effect and I think this may be the cause, any ideas? Peter

  To install Maven, I downloaded the latest version from the website and then followed these steps: http://maven.apache.org/download.html#Installation The last step, the version control, does not work. • why is usb disk corrupted by Vista restore

  I have a laptop with Vista Business on an 80GB disk. I have created a full backup and stored that on the original 80GB drive. On my new 320GB disk, I have created a partition with exactly the same number of bytes as the original 80GB disk. I swap the disks so that the 320GB is internal, and the 80GB is in a USB caddy. I boot from the NEO restore CD and everything looks fine: I select the dump on the USB drive, target is drive C:, start the restore. After a few seconds, the restore fails with "not enough disks in machine or disk not large enough" error (I did note the exact phrase). I then swap the 80GB disk back to the internal drive, but the thing is unbootable. Why has the restore process scrubbed the boot status of the USB drive ?

  I have some email network data in Excel as a edgelist meaning I have columns Vertex1, Vertex2, and then N columns of properties of that edge like how many emails were sent from one person to another. For each row in the data, Vertex1 is the source of a message, and Vertex2 is the target, so edges are directed. Here's some sample data Vertex1 Vertex2 nMessages Bob Cindy 12 Cindy Bob 3 Bob Mike 11 Cindy Mike 1 I'm trying to calculate a geometric mean of the form gm = sqrt[(# of edges ij)*(# of edges ji)] So gm for Bob and Cindy is gm = sqrt[(messages from Bob to Cindy)*(messages from Cindy to Bob)] or sqrt(12*3) = 6. Is there a way to make that a formula in Excel?

  I have a batch of MP3 based books. Some of them divide into files according to book's own structure: chapters and so on. Some of them was just divided into equally lengthened parts. So. I've bought an iPhone, and I want to convert them all to M4B format. How could I convert them in a batch? I mean how cold I set up a process once, for each book, and then, after couple of weeks, receive totally converted library. The only able program for such conversion I've found was Audiobook Builder for a Mac. But it is pretty slow and do not support batching in principle. Solutions for any platform, please.

• ESXi boot time with 9 iSCSI targets

  Our ESXi hosts have always been slow booting when it came to iscsi_vmk loaded successfully - sitting here for almost 5 minutes. In all a full server reboot takes almost 12 minutes. We have 9 iSCSI targets per host (5 SANs with redundant interfaces) configured as dynamic discovery targets. Has anyone experienced this? Can it be remedied with static discovery mode? Are there any debug steps we can work through to help diagnose this? (All our targets are accessible at boot so i'm assuming the host isn't stuck retrying to connect to a target)

• Is it possible to upgrade Server 2008 to RDP version 6.1?

  Problem Server 2008 has RDP 6.0, Server 2008 R2 has RDP 6.1. My application works with RDP ActiveX control 6.1, but does not work with version 6.0 - generates access violation from mstscax.dll. Is there any way to upgrade Server 2008 (not 2008 R2) with RDP 6.1? More details: my application is written in Delphi, the ActiveX control was generated from mstscax.dll version 6.1.7601.17514. Target system where the application doesn't work, has mstscax.dll version 6.0.6002.18356. When the application tries to connect, it generate an access violation exception in mstscax.dll. The way I see it is a compatibility problem. I appreciate any ideas on how to resolve this.

• How to mail merge a hyperlink in Microsoft Word or Publisher 2010

  I am trying to do an e-mail merge in Microsoft Publisher 2010 (which appears to do mail merging like Microsoft Word) and I'm wanting a merged email address to automatically be hyperlinked in the resulting email. For example, one of the merge fields could be "EmailAddress" with an example address being [email protected]. In the document, I would want the merge field "EmailAddress" to display as the default text in an hyperlink and also set the target of the hyperlink to "mailto:EmailAddress" (eg. mailto:[email protected]). I can't figure out how to get Publisher 2010 to do that. I would think that it's possible, though. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

  I have created a platform that i want users to sign up and a new site is created for them instantly. Users will register and afterwards they will receive a username and password for their personal site. The system will work like ecommerce platforms such as www.shopify.com, www.bigcommerce.com, etc.. where users sign up and a new web-shop is created for them instantly. I have been searching for a while how i can create a script to automate this task but couldn't find any tutorials. Am using LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySql and PHP). • Installing Plone on Centos fails: Unable to find libssl or openssl/ssl.h.

  My dedicated Server has CentOS 5.5. I tried to install Plone, so I basically did: wget launchpad.net/plone/4.0/4.0.2/+download/Plone-4.0.2-UnifiedInstaller.tgz tar xzf Plone-4.0.2-UnifiedInstaller.tgz cd Plone-4.0.2-UnifiedInstaller ./install.sh zeo I ran into the following error: Unable to find libssl or openssl/ssl.h. If you wish to build without SSL support, run install.sh again with --without-ssl flag. Otherwise, install your platform's openssl-dev libraries and headers and try again. After this error I successfully installed openssl: yum install openssl And i tried to install Plone again. But I keep getting the error: "Unable to find libssl or openssl/ssl.h". Anybody an idea what I'missing?

Apply steganography on a randomly selected image. http://openstego.sourceforge.net/cmdline.html The problem with NLP is that grammatical errors can be introduced. The problem with steganography is that the images are sourced from an image cache, and so recreating that cache with watermarked images will impart a delay when generating the PDF (I could just delete one image from the cache, but that's not an elegant solution). • How to set CHKDSK for drive C: in Windows 7

  I recently got a 0xc000007b error whenever I tried to run some application software. I found that CHKDSK for C drive might be a solution. When I tried to do it from C drive properties, it said the drive was in use and asked to schedule CHKDSK at the next reboot. I clicked OK. When I restart, I experience a BSOD. I waited for 10 minutes but still nothing happens. So I forced a shutdown (laptop) and again booted up the computer and got a BSOD for just 5 or 10 seconds and system boots and works with no problem. I repeated all these steps four or four times and yet with the same results. Is there any other way other than CHKDSK to solve the 0xc000007b error? If not, why is CHKDSK not working at boot up? Can I force CHKDSK on drive C: to perform while the system is on? Platform: Windows 7 64-bit.

  Hi, I currently use KeePassX to manage my passwords on my Linux (Xubuntu) machine. It's nice to have all the passwords encrypted, but sometimes I'd like to be able to tell a password when I'm on the run. Therefore I'm looking for a solution which I can synchronize with my phone. I have a Nokia N82 which is a Symbian OS v9.2 based phone for the S60 3rd Edition platform with Feature Pack 1. I like an open source solution if it's possible. In case it isn't I wouldn't mind paying for a good solution. If Windows may be added to the synchronization mix it's nice, but it's absolutely not a primary requirement (I don't even have any computer running Windows).

• Cron won't use msmtpd to send emails in case of failed cronjob

  I'm trying to configure a machine so that it will send me an email if one of the cronjobs output something in case of an error. I'm using Debian Wheezy. Cron is working normally (without the email functionality). msmtp is installed and configured. Have already symlinked /usr/{bin|sbin}/sendmail to /usr/bin/msmtpd. I can send email by using: echo "test" | mail -s "subject" [email protected] or by executing: echo "test" | /usr/sbin/sendmail Without the symlink (/usr/sbin/sendmail) cron will tell me that: (CRON) info (No MTA installed, discarding output) With the symlinks I get: (root) MAIL (mailed 1 byte of output; but got status 0x004e, #012) Can you suggest how to config the cron/msmtp pair?   I am in the middle of developing a social networking application for a very select user niche which could scale to a few million users. Right now I have always hosted applications on RackSpace Cloud and I have no issues with them at all - always been a really good service and never had any downtime. My question is though does anyone think that cloud computing is not the way to host scalable web apps? Or can anyone with experience of this recommend a better solution. I have always shunned trying to run big servers from my own facilities as I think it seems silly to go to the expense of bringing in big alternative power supplies and all the other necessary precautions when other companies already do this. I looked at managed hosting services but this proved to be a bit too expensive for us at the start and the scalability of it wasnt good enough - it would take a day or two to get a new server provisioned. Therefore I ended up on a cloud platform. If anyone has any recommendations or advice it would be greatly appreciated.

  Well gDocs isn't working ok, too many bugs and it's pretty slow (especially when saving documents). I have tried several alternatives: - Zoho - they say it's not compatible with Opera and it;s true - you even can't CTRL+V text - Buzzword - it's really slow, and some functions don't work properly (on all browsers) for example "increase indent" increases a random text indent - Etherpad - was taken over by google and is shut down - Peepel - it's a cool thing, almost a free virtual desktop in a browser but it's buggy - a saved a document, tried to open it end an error occured. the document was lost - OpenGoo - went commercial At the moment I'm testing ThinkFree Online - it'a a bit slow (Java :P) and some minor things don't work (like drag a toolbar) but it has cool functionalities (almost like OpenOffice! which I use at home), it actually works with opera (create, save, edit document). Maybe I'll try Scribd but is it a office/share platform? any other worth trying??

• Which is generally considered faster or best practice: symlinks or Apache aliases?

  I'm curious as to what most people's views are on this subject. Personally, I will almost always prefer symlinks unless I have no other option -- I find that it is far more obvious when someone is navigating the file system, but, on the other hand aliasing is more platform independent. Windows XP, for example, doesn't have anything remotely comparable to symlinks (NTFS junctions are not interpreted correctly by at least some environments), which means that anything which relies on symlinks in a *nix based system cannot be transferred. (I know that Windows 64x OS's have symlinks, but I've not seen if they can be read correctly by the environments previously mentioned) In addition to this, I was also wondering which is considered faster. Is this even possible to know? Do you have a conjecture? I would imagine that since symlinks are generally more low-level than Apache it would make sense that they would be referenced faster, but, on the other hand, I would guess that Apache is required to do a lookup in either case so it would be disk read dependent.

  I suspect I'm a bit offtopic with the site mission, but it seems me more fitting for the question than stackoverflow i'm in preparing to create a vm with sensible data (personal use, it will be a web+mail+... appliance of sorts), i'd like to protect the data even with cryptography; the final choice have to be cross-platform for the host basically, I have to choose between guest system-level cryptography (say, dm-crypt or similar) or host level cryptography with truecrypt. do you think that the "truecrypt-volume contained virtualized disks" approach will hit the i/o performance of the vm badly (and therefore dm-crypt like approaches into the vm would be better), or is it doable? I'd like to protect all the guest data, not only my personal data, to be able to suspend the vm freely without worrying for the swap partition, etc
