• Which DVCS would work best on Windows for my scenario?

  At work I use ClearCase and SourceSafe, but have found some time to do some time to code for myself enroute thanks to a disposable laptop. However, I wish I had a lightweight VCS on my system using which I would be able to make changes to my code during the commute and then push/grab them from my Linux systems. I use git on my home system, but I can't really get it working on Windows. I don't want all that cygwin hack. If it does not run natively on Windows, it just won't do. What have you guys tried on your Windows system? Something that YOU use. The big player at the moment seems to be Mercurial? What would be best for a one (or maybe two) man team? I just need to maintain : Versioned copies of source code. Checking in and out should be as less obtrusive as possible. I am looking forward to a multiple Undo kind of feature (like that in an EMacs buffer) but persistent. I really like the way git keeps track of lines moving between files in a source code set I should be able to move part(s)/sub tree(s) of the source tree (each sub tree implies a module/plugin to my the main software I am building) to an archival system either completly or partially and restore them back from the archive as and when required and the system should track any changes to this tree as well. I actually want to experiment with my code as much as possible without me manually keeping track of what I modified and what I need to undo once I try out some idea, so that I am back to where I want to continue from.   What's the best way to link formal specs to JIRA enhancement requests? I want to track changes to specifications using JIRA. Ideally, I'd like to refer to a functional ID reference in a JIRA ticket (e.g. MYAPPAPPROVAL LOGICMAIN SCREEN), so that program managers can retrospectively categorise defects. The reason for this, is so that QA scripts and documentation tickets can be searched/categorised meaningfully in the tracking system. There seems to be a million possible ways to do this, e.g. should I write a custom component to select functional IDs from a tree? should I write the specs in confluence, or another CMS with a TrackBack facility? should I include a link to the documentation URL? should I use some other 3rd party plugin application? should I use some Atlassian application that i'm unaware of? am I using the wrong tracking tool/process to measure spec growth? What's the best way, in your experience?

I have been using Indefero for project management etc. for some time, but I found that Indefero limitations are too big for my team. I'm searching project-management software that best suites this needs: Open-Source, but I can consider commercial apps GIT integration is mandatory, best if it can support multiple repos per project Time-tracking, good if it can have Gannt chart connected with issues etc. Issue, milestone, task tracking Good if it can be integrated with Gitosis, or have similar repository access control It must have an option, to setup on our own server Markdown syntax support is mandatory (or easy way to install plugin for this etc.) Issue tagging will be and advantage It will be used by developers team by 99% of time, but it has to have some simple interface, that clients can fill up bug reports etc. per project. It does not have to fill all this needs, but good if it can :) What options do You know, and can recommend?

What does that mean? I just want to chack whether it works, and I can't call the function/program any how. I used to call in an "old fashion way", like in scheme, to the function that I wrote and see if something happens. How does it work in java?   Is there a way to rotate an html table? So, say I had a table like this: <table id="table-1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2"> <tr><td>1</td></tr> <tr><td>2</td></tr> <tr><td>3</td></tr> <tr><td>4</td></tr> <tr><td>5</td></tr> <tr><td>6</td></tr> </table> and wanted to some sort of button that had javascript behind it that could rotate the table any which direction.   Hi, im making a wordpress plugin and i have a function where i import images, this is done with a $.each()-loop that calls a .load()-function every iteration. The load-function page the load-function calls is downloading the image and returns a number. The number is imported into a span-element. The source and destination Arrays is being imported from LI-elemnts of a hidden ULs. this way the user sees a counter counting from zero up to the total number of images being imported. • Javascript object properties access functions in parent constructor?

  So I'm using this pretty standard jquery plugin pattern whereby you can grab an api after applying the jquery function to a specific instance. This API is essentially a javascript object with a bunch of methods and data. So I wanted to essentially create some private internal methods for the object only to manipulate data etc, which just doesn't need to be available as part of the API. I'm not understanding the explanation behind why it can't.   I'm building a Rails app backed by mongodb using mongoid. It's a one page app, with a HTML table, every field for every row of which, needs to be editable without refreshing the page. This is your usual Rails view ( like many in rails casts ) showing a table with rows and columns containing data. For example. I'm showing cars, and showing their make, model and notes They way I'm doing this is by appending _id of a mongo document to every column and marking it's field name in html id too. Then I pick up the value for $("#id") and send it to rails controller via AJAX and run @car.update_attributes method accordingly. • Best way to do client/server validation in ASP.NET in 2010?

  First there was the ASP.NET validators and we used them... Then some people on the team did things manually in javascript... Then a bunch of jquery validation libraries came out... Then MVC2 came out with attributes as validators.. I work with apps that have alot of forms with alot of various validation (Some fields needs to be compared with other values in a DB so a postball/ajax call is required) .. Right now I have a mess of ASP.NET custom validators and functions that calculate on the server side as well. Can I get some opinions on the best tool/combination to approach this job that can create the smallest/most elegant code? Pure server side solution? AJAX/Jquery? A certain plugin for jquery? For example, I have 2 dates.. I want to make sure that the 1st date is less than the 2nd date... Are there jquery validators that encapsulate this? My feeling is if I can get jquery plugins to handle half the more basic validation for my that could cut my code in half.

• Stopping Wordpress From Appending /index.html to everything

  I have a spaghetti code of a theme I inherited from someone and for whatever reason Google Analytics shows that I keep getting hits to a variety of URLs on the site, but the urls are all appended with /index.html. So an example would be like http://www.mysite.com/category/storyname/index.html And it appears to be doing this to almost everything (despite my permalinks being set to be "tidy"). So... What in the hell could be possibly causing this? How do I fix it? When I visit all those pages I get 404 errors so that means my visitors are not getting what they want. I have the Redirection plugin and have been manually trying to update some of these, but it is ridiculous. I'm sure there's a way to do it with htaccess but I know next to nothing about that. • jQuery Code Only Fires On Hard Refresh?

  The XFBML version of the Facebook Registration plugin only loads HTTPS. I need it to load HTTP so my form does not call a security error mismatch between domains. I wrote this code to get the SRC and rewrite it with out HTTPS It works fine on the first load, however on Chrome and Safari it only loads the first time and on HARD refreshes. It does not load on standard reloads or by pressing "enter" on the address bar.   I am in the process of upgrading my rails app from 2.3.5 to 3.2.5 on ruby 1.9.3. In the old app I was using the will_paginate plugin, which I have converted to a gem. • A good php framework in 2012

  I've done a lot of googling around this, and practically all of the answers I find are pre 2011, and are answered in the usual, here are the 5 most popular frameworks... So I'd like to update this topic for 2012, I'm going to build a web application with a pretty complex back-end system driving it, and I'd like to use a framework so I don't have to reinvent the wheel. My application will be hugely user based, so I would appreciate a built in authentication/validation system. (When this is missing it takes me a good 2 weeks of intense and frivolous research to try to pick the "best" one (I don't want to roll my own, I don't think I'd do a better job than what's out there). I've looked into a tried a few, so I'll give you what I like and don't like, but I don't want to bias answers too much. I don't like: Frameworks that auto-generate bloated code. If they have the feature, fine, but if I have to use it, I get frustrated. Backwards compatibility with php4, eww. I don't need backwards compatibility at all. I like: Getting up and running quickly (but without all the auto-generation bogus), what I mean by this is that all the essentials are there, so I don't have to come to a grinding halt to research what the best 3rd party plugin is to get the feature I need. Thorough documentation, good tutorials. Good presentation of these materials. Please explain why your framework suggestion is good, don't just give the name of a framework without any justification. Results would appear seconds later, especially when typed slower, or when Backspace was used, etc. I made all this, and the situation isn't much better. Requests pile up. My original intention is to use .abort() to cancel out whatever previous request is still running as the textchange event is fired again (as per 446594). This doesn't work, as I get repeated errors like this in console; Uncaught TypeError: Cannot call method 'abort' of undefined How can I make .abort() work in my case? Furthermore, is this approach the best way to fetch 'realtime' search results? Much like Facebook's search bar, which gives results as the user types, and seems to be very quick on its feet.

• RHEL 5.5 Yum Update Fails Dependency Error

  I have 30 different RHEL 5.5 machines that will not update some 33 packages via Yum. Does anyone know why these packages will not install and how to correct this? Yum clean all does not fix the issue, however skip broken will allow other updates to install but I am really after a way to clear this up for good.
