• Connection to webservice times out first time

  My application needs to connect to a web service. The WSDL file given by the client was converted to java using the wsdl2java utility in axis 2-1.5.2. The problem occurs during the first connection to the webservice. • Code that Worked with MultiView fails with Wizard ASP.NET

  I originally created a process that occurred by transitioning between views in a multiview and it worked fine. Now, I've moved this same code into a ASP.NET Wizard and it keeps throwing an error at the second step. • SOAP call with query on result (SSRS, Sharepoint)

  Hi! I created a report in VS using a shared data source which is connected to a sharepoint list. I have created a parameter and when I preview the Report I see the dropdownbox which I can use to make a selection from the Title field, when I do this it still shows the first record, obviously it doens't work yet (DUH!) because I need to create a query somewhere, But! I have no idea where, I tried to include <Where> <Eq> <FieldRef Name="ows_Title" /> <Value Type="Text">testValue</Value> </Eq> </Where> in the the soap request but it didn't worked... I've searched teh intarwebz but couldn't find any simliar problems... kinda stuck now...any thoughts on this? • Postfix "warning: cannot get RSA private key from file"

  I just followed this tutorial to set up a postfix mailserver with dovecot and mysql as backend for virtual users. Now I got the most parts working, I can connect to pop3 pop3s imap and imaps. Using echo TEST-MAIL | mail [email protected] works fine, when I log into my hotmail account it shows the email. It also works in reverse hence my MX entry for mydomain.com finally has been propagated, so I am being able to receive emails sent from [email protected] to [email protected] and view them in Thunderbird using STARTTLS via IMAP. Doing a bit more research after I got the error message "5.7.1 : Relay access denied" when trying to send mails to [email protected] using Thunderbird being logged into [email protected], I figured out that my server was acting as an "Open Mail Relay", which - ofcourse - is a bad thing. Digging more into the optional parts of the tutorial like shown workaround.org/comment/2536 and workaround.org/ispmail/squeeze/postfix-smtp-auth I decided to complete these steps aswell to be able to send mails via [email protected] through Mozilla Thunderbird, not getting the error message "5.7.1 : Relay access denied" anymore (as common mailservers reject open relayed emails). Only problem is making postfix properly use the self-generated, self-signed certificates. Any help appreciated! EDIT: I just tried this different tutorial on generating a self-signed certificate for postfix, still getting the same error. I really don't know what else to test. The certificate/key check via openssl did show that both files are valid. So it indeed has been a permissions problem! Didn't know that chown'ing the /etc/ssl/*/postfix.pem files to postfix:postfix is not enough for postfix to read the files.

• How to disable Mac OS X from using swap when there still is "Inactive" memory?

  A common phenomena in my day to day usage (and several other's according to various posts throughout the internet) of OS X, the system seems to become slow whenever there is no more "Free" memory available. Supposedly, this is due to swapping, since heavy disk activity is apparent and that vm_stat reports many pageouts. (Correct me from wrong) However, the amount of "Inactive" ram is typically around 12.5%-25% of all available memory (^1.) when swapping starts/occurs/ends. According to http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1342 : Inactive memory This information in memory is not actively being used, but was recently used. For example, if you've been using Mail and then quit it, the RAM that Mail was using is marked as Inactive memory. This Inactive memory is available for use by another application, just like Free memory. However, if you open Mail before its Inactive memory is used by a different application, Mail will open quicker because its Inactive memory is converted to Active memory, instead of loading Mail from the slower hard disk. And according to http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Performance/Conceptual/ManagingMemory/Articles/AboutMemory.html : The inactive list contains pages that are currently resident in physical memory but have not been accessed recently. These pages contain valid data but may be released from memory at any time. So, basically: When a program has quit, it's memory becomes marked as Inactive and should be claimable at any time. Still, OS X will prefer to start swapping out memory to the Swap file instead of just claiming this memory, whenever the "Free" memory gets to low. Why? What is the advantage of this behavior over, say, instantly releasing Inactive memory and not even touch the swap file? Some sources (^2.) indicate that OS X would page out the "Inactive" memory to swap before releasing it, but that doesn't make sense now does it if the memory may be released from memory at any time? Swapping is expensive, releasing is cheap, right? Can this behavior be changed using some preference or known hack? (Preferably one that doesn't include disabling swap/dynamic_pager altogether and restarting...) I do appreciate the purge command, as well as the concept of Repairing disk permissions to force some Free memory, but those are ways to painfully force more Free memory than to actually fixing the swap/release decision logic... Btw a similar question was asked here: http://forums.macnn.com/90/mac-os-x/434650/why-does-os-x-swap-when/ and here: http://hintsforums.macworld.com/showthread.php?t=87688 but even though the OPs re-asked the core question, none of the replies addresses an answer to it... ^1. UPDATE 17-mar-2012 Since I first posted this question, I have gone from 4gb to 8gb of installed ram, and the problem remains. The amount of "Inactive" ram was 0.5gb-1.0gb before and is now typically around 1.0-2.0GB when swapping starts/occurs/ends, ie it seems that around 12.5%-25% of the ram is preserved as Inactive by osx kernel logic. ^2. For instance http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/4288/what-does-it-mean-if-i-have-lots-of-inactive-memory-at-the-end-of-a-work-day : Once all your memory is used (free memory is 0), the OS will write out inactive memory to the swapfile to make more room in active memory. UPDATE 17-mar-2012 Here is a round-up of the methods that have been suggested to help so far: The purge command "Used to approximate initial boot conditions with a cold disk buffer cache for performance analysis. It does not affect anonymous memory that has been allocated through malloc, vm_allocate, etc". This is useful to prevent osx to swap-out the disk cache (which is ridiculous that osx actually does so in the first place), but with the downside that the disk cache is released, meaning that if the disk cache was not about to be swapped out, one would simply end up with a cold disk buffer cache, probably affecting performance negatively. The FreeMemory app and/or Repairing disk permissions to force some Free memory Doesn't help releasing any memory, only moving some gigabytes of memory contents from ram to the hd. In the end, this causes lots of swap-ins when I attempt to use the applications that were open while freeing memory, as a lot of its vm is now on swap. Speeding up swap-allocation using dynamicpagerwrapper Seems a good thing to do in order to speed up swap-usage, but does not address the problem of osx swapping in the first place while there is still inactive memory. Disabling swap by disabling dynamicpager and restarting This will force osx not to use swap to the price of the system hanging when all memory is used. Not a viable alternative... Disabling swap using a hacked dynamicpager Similar to disabling dynamicpager above, some excerpts from the comments to the blog post indicate that this is not a viable solution: "The Inactive Memory is high as usual". "when your system is running out of memory, the whole os hangs...", "if you consume the whole amount of memory of the mac, the machine will likely hang" To sum up, I am still unaware of a way of disabling Mac OS X from using swap when there still is "Inactive" memory. If it isn't possible, maybe at least there is an explanation somewhere of why osx prefers to swap out memory that may be released from memory at any time?

• Email sent from server with rDNS & SPF being blocked by Hotmail

  I have been unable to send email to users on hotmail or other Microsoft email servers for some time. Its been a major headache trying to find out why and how to fix the issue. The emails being sent that are blocked from my domain canadaka.net. I use Google Aps to host my regular email serverice for my @canadaka.net email addresses. I can sent email from my desktop or gmail to a hotmail without any problem. But any email sent from my server on behalf of canadaka.net is blocked, not even arriving in the junk email. The IP that the emails are being sent from is the same IP that my site is hosted on: 66.199.162.177 This IP is new to me since August 2010, I had a different IP for the previous 3-4 years. This IP is not on any credible spam lists http://www.anti-abuse.org/multi-rbl-check-results/?host=66.199.162.177 The one list spamcannibal.org my IP is listed on seems to be out of my control, says "no reverse DNS, MX host should have rDNS - RFC1912 2.1". But since I use Google for my email hosting, I don't have control over setting up RDNS for all the MX records. I do have Reverse DNS setup for my IP though, it resolves to "mail.canadaka.net". I have signed up for SNDS and was approved. My ip says "All of the specified IPs have normal status." Sender Score: 100 https://www.senderscore.org/lookup.php?lookup=66.199.162.177&ipLookup.x=55&ipLookup.y=14 My Mcafee threat level seems fine I have a TXT SPF record setup, I am currently using xname.org as my DNS, and they don't have a field for SPF, but their FAQ says to add the SPF info as a TXT entry. v=spf1 a include:_spf.google.com ~all Some "SPF checking" tools ive used detect that my domain has a valid SPF, but others don't. Like Microsoft's SPF wizard, i think this is because its specifically looking for an SPF record and not in the TXT. "No SPF Record Found. A and MX Records Available". From my home I can run "nslookup -type=TXT canadaka.net" and it returns: Server: google-public-dns-a.google.com Address: 8.8.8.8 Non-authoritative answer: canadaka.net text = "v=spf1 a include:_spf.google.com ~all" One strange thing I found is i'm unable to ping hotmail.com or msn.com or do a "telnet mail.hotmail.com 25". I am able to ping gmail.com and many other domains I tried. I tried changing my DNS servers to Google's Public DNS and did a ipconfig /flushdns but that had no effect. I am however able to connect with telnet to mx1.hotmail.com This is what the email headers look like when I send to a Google email server and I receive the email with no troubles. You can see that SPF is passing. TXT (no records) I do have a TXT record, its been there for years, I did change it a week ago. Other sites that allow you to check your SPF detect it, but some others like Microsofts Wizard doesn't. This iw what my SPF record in my xname.org DNS file looks like: canadaka.net. 86400 IN TXT "v=spf1 a include:_spf.google.com ~all" I did have a nameserver as my 4th option that doens't have the TXT records since it doens't support it. So I removed it from the list and instead added wtfdns.com as my 4th adn 5th nameservers, which does support TXT.

• CSS drop-down menus pushing page content down

  This is probably (hopefully) a pretty simple question, but I can't seem to get it to work so I'll turn to the experts here. I'm using a pretty straightforward CSS drop-down menu, with just a little JQuery involved. The issue is that when I hover over the drop-down and it opens, it's pushing everything on the page down below it rather then opening over it. I've tried messing with the z-index but that doesn't seem to be the issue. Any tips would be fantastic, thanks in advance.   I am trying to get validation to work in ASP.NET MVC 2, but without much success. I have a complex class containing a large number of fields. (Don't ask - this is oneo f those real-world situations best practices can't touch) This would normally be my Model and is a LINQ-to-SQL generated class. • Deserializing Metafile

  I have an application that works with Enhanced Metafiles. I am able to create them, save them to disk as .emf and load them again no problem. I do this by using the gdi32.dll methods and the DLLImport attribute. However, to enable Version Tolerant Serialization I want to save the metafile in an object along with other data. This essentially means that I need to serialize the metafile data as a byte array and then deserialize it again in order to reconstruct the metafile. The problem I have is that the deserialized data would appear to be corrupted in some way, since the method that I use to reconstruct the Metafile raises a "Parameter not valid exception". At the very least the pixel format and resolutions have changed. Code use is below. Original Format32bppRgb changes to Format32bppArgb Original Resolution 81 changes to 96 I've trawled though google and SO and this has helped me get this far but Im now stuck. Does any one have enough experience with Metafiles / serialization to help..? EDIT: If I serialize/deserialize the byte array directly (without embedding in another object) I get the same problem.

  I want to write a module (framework specific), that would wrap and extend Facebook PHP-sdk (https://github.com/facebook/php-sdk/). My problem is - how to organize classes, in a nice way. So getting into details - Facebook PHP-sdk consists of two classes: BaseFacebook - abstract class with all the stuff sdk does Facebook - extends BaseFacebook, and implements parent abstract persistance-related methods with default session usage Now I have some functionality to add: Facebook class substitution, integrated with framework session class shorthand methods, that run api calls, I use mostly (through BaseFacebook::api()), authorization methods, so i don't have to rewrite this logic every time, configuration, sucked up from framework classes, insted of passed as params caching, integrated with framework cache module I know something has gone very wrong, because I have too much inheritance that doesn't look very normal.Wrapping everything in one "complex extension" class also seems too much. I think I should have few working togheter classes - but i get into problems like: if cache class doesn't really extend and override BaseFacebook::api() method - shorthand and authentication classes won't be able to use the caching. Maybe some kind of a pattern would be right in here? How would you organize these classes and their dependencies? It's all very tight coupled - like look how i had to specify 'Facebook_Custom::api' instead of 'parent:api', to avoid api() method loop on Facebook_Cache class extending. Overall mess and ugliness. So again, this works but I'm just asking about patterns / ways of doing this in a cleaner and smarter way.

• Django ImageField issue with JPEG's

  I am having a major issue with PIL (Python Image Library) in Django and have jumpped through a lot of hoops and have thus far not been able to figure out what the root of the issue is. The problem essentially breaks down to not being able to upload JPEG images through the ImageField in the Django admin. But the issue is not as simple as installing libjpeg. First, I installed PIL (through Buildout) and realized once it was installed that I had not installed libjpeg because JPEG support was not available. Having not setup the server myself, I just assumed that it was not installed and I compiled libjpeg 8 from the source. This ended up in my /usr/local/lib/ directory. I cleared out my Buildout files and rebuilt everything. This time when PIL compiled I had JPEG support. But I went to the Django Admin and tried to upload a JPEG though an ImageField with no luck. I got the "Upload a valid image. The file you uploaded was either not an image or a corrupted image" error. Just as a test I opened up a the Djano shell and ran the following: > import Image > i = Image.open( "/absolute_path/file.jpg" ) > print i <JpegImagePlugin.JpegImageFile image mode=RGB size=940x375 at 0x7F908C529BD8> This runs with no errors and shows that PIL is able to open JPEG's. After doing some reading, I come across this thread: Is it possible to control which libraries apache uses? Looks like PHP also uses libjpeg and is loading before Django, and therefor loading libjpeg 6.2 before. This is show when using lsof: COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME apache2 2561 www-data mem REG 202,1 146032 639276 /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.62.0.0 So my thought is that I should be using libjpeg 6.2. So I removed libjpeg located in my /usr/local/lib directory. After rereading the PIL installation instructions, I realized that I might not have the dev/header files for libjpeg that PIL needs. So I also uninstalled libjpeg using the aptitude uninstaller (sudo aptitude remove libjpeg62). Then to ensure that I got the header files that PIL needed I installed libjpeg using aptitude: (sudo aptget install libjpeg62-dev). From here I cleaned out my Buildout directory, and reran Buildout, which in turn reinstalled PIL. Once again, I have JPEG support, now using the libjpeg62. So I go to test in the Django Admin. Still no JPEG support. So I wanted to test JPEG support in general and see if the exception was not handled, what kind of error it would throw. So in my homepage view I added the following code to open a JPEG image: import Image i = Image.open( "/absolute_path/file.jpg" ) v = i.verify() Then I pass i to the HTML view just to easily see the output. I deploy these changes to the server and restart. I am surprised not to see an error and get the following output: {{ i }} - <JpegImagePlugin.JpegImageFile image mode=RGB size=940x375 at 0x7F908C529BD8> {{ v }} - None So at this point I am really confused: Why can I successfully open a JPEG while the admin cannot? Am I missing something, is this not an issue with libjpeg? If not an issue with libjpeg, why can I upload a PNG with no issues? If simply pass objects 'as is' that boost throws exception about duplicated pointers. But I'm confused of creating pointers to save objects. The second (2) is a real trouble. If comment out string after (2.1) then boost will corectly load a first Key object (and init internal Door pointer pDoor), but will not init a second Door (d_in) object. After this I have an inited *k_in* object with valid pointer to Door and empty *d_in* object. If use string (2.2) then boost will create two Key and Door objects somewhere in memory and save addresses in pointers. But I want to have two objects *k_in* and *d_in*. So, if I copy a values of memory objects to local variables then I store only addresses, for example, I can write code after (2.2): d_in.id = pD->id; d_in.pKey = pD->pKey; But in this case I store only a pointer and memory object remains in memory and I cannot delete it, because *d_in.pKey* will be unvalid. And I cannot perform a deep copy with operator=(), because if I write code like this: Key &operator==(const Key &k) { if (this != &k) { id = k.id; // call to Door::operator=() that calls *pKey = *d.pKey and so on *pDoor = *k.pDoor; } return *this; } then I will get a something like recursion of operator=()s of Key and Door. • DataGridView CheckBox events

  I'm making a DataGridView with a series of Checkboxes in it with the same labels horizontally and vertically. Any labels that are the same, the checkboxes will be inactive, and I only want one of the two "checks" for each combination to be valid. The following screenshot shows what I have: Anything that's checked on the lower half, I want UN-checked on the upper. So if [quux, spam] (or [7, 8] for zero-based co-ordinates) is checked, I want [spam, quux] ([8, 7]) un-checked. Basically, how do I get the "right" address with the right boolean value so that my flipping algorithm will work?

• Print driver installs failing

  All of the Windows 7 64-bit Enterprise machines in my organization are failing to install a good number of printer drivers that previously installed without issue. This only happens with printer drivers. And not with all printer drivers. Just some. Network drivers, video drivers, etc. have had no problems. If I take it off the domain, it installs fine. But it doesn't seem to have anything to do with Group Policy. I moved the machine to an OU that blocks inheritance, ran a gpupdate, ran rsop.msc to verify, and tried again. And it still didn't work. Likewise, I removed a machine from the domain, manually set all of the domain Group Policy settings in gpedit.msc, and tried that way, and it worked fine. So it seems like the Group Policy settings are irrelevant. What other domain-related issue could be causing this though? Any ideas on what to try next would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure where to go from here. Thanks!

• My Dijit DateTimeCombo widget doesn't send selected value on form submission

  i need to create a Dojo widget that lets users specify date & time. i found a sample implementation attached to an entry in the Dojo bug tracker. It looks nice and mostly works, but when i submit the form, the value sent by the client is not the user-selected value but the value sent from the server. What changes do i need to make to get the widget to submit the date & time value? Sample usage is to render a JSP with basic HTML tags (form & input), then dojo.addOnLoad a function which selects the basic elements by ID, adds dojoType attribute, and dojo.parser.parse()-es the page. • php crashes with no core file and this message : apc_mmap failed

  Description of the problem Regularly, cron php processes crash on our production server, which result in mails with the following body : PHP Fatal error: PHP Startup: apc_mmap: mmap failed: in Unknown on line 0 Segmentation fault (core dumped) I think the Segmentation fault (core dumped) should result in core files being handled by apport and then written in /var/crashes, but the files I can see there are there since yesterday, although the last crash occured today : -rw-r----- 1 root whoopsie 1138528 mai 22 04:09 _usr_bin_php5.0.crash -rw-r----- 1 frontoffice whoopsie 1166373 mai 20 18:00 _usr_bin_php5.1005.crash -rw-r----- 1 frontoffice whoopsie 81622658 mai 22 00:05 _usr_sbin_php5-fpm.1005.crash I tried to download the last one anyway, and ran gdb /usr/sbin/php5-fpm /tmp/_usr_sbin_php5-fpm.1005.crash, only to be told that the file is not a core file (its format was not recognized). Here is the server's apc configuration : cat /etc/php5/cli/conf.d/20-apc.ini extension=apc.so apc.shm_size=512M apc.ttl=3600 apc.user_ttl=3600 apc.enable_cli=1 I'm mostly worried about the apc.shm_size… isn't it too high or too low ? I understand it has to do with the size of memory segments. Question(s) What could be the problem ? How can I troubleshoot it (how can I get a valid core file ?) ? • Drawing a TextBox in an extended Glass Frame w/o WPF

  I am trying to draw a TextBox on the extended glass frame of my form. I won't describe this technique, it's well-known. Here's an example for those who haven't heard of it: http://www.danielmoth.com/Blog/Vista-Glass-In-C.aspx The thing is, it is complex to draw over this glass frame. Since black is considered to be the 0-alpha color, anything black disappears. There are apparently ways of countering this problem: drawing complex GDI+ shapes are not affected by this alpha-ness. For example, this code can be used to draw a Label on glass (note: GraphicsPath is used instead of DrawString in order to get around the horrible ClearType problem): public class GlassLabel : Control { public GlassLabel() { this.BackColor = Color.Black; } protected override void OnPaint(PaintEventArgs e) { GraphicsPath font = new GraphicsPath(); font.AddString( this.Text, this.Font.FontFamily, (int)this.Font.Style, this.Font.Size, Point.Empty, StringFormat.GenericDefault); e.Graphics.SmoothingMode = SmoothingMode.HighQuality; e.Graphics.FillPath(new SolidBrush(this.ForeColor), font); } } Similarly, such an approach can be used to create a container on the glass area. After lots of Googling, I came up with the following solutions: Subclassing the TextBox's OnPaint method. This is possible, although I could not get it to work properly. It should involve painting some magic things I don't know how to do yet. Making my own custom TextBox, perhaps on a TextBoxBase. If anyone has good, valid and working examples, and thinks this could be a good overall solution, please tell me. Using BufferedPaintSetAlpha. (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms649805.aspx). The downsides of this method may be that the corners of the textbox might look odd, but I can live with that. If anyone knows how to implement that method properly from a Graphics object, please tell me. I personally don't, but this seems the best solution so far. • WPF Xaml Custom Styling Selected Item Style in a ListBox

  I have a list box that scrolls images horizontally. I have the following XAML I used blend to create it. It originally had a x:Key on the Style TaregetType line, MSDN said to remove it, as I was getting errors on that. Now I'm getting this error: Error 3 Operation is not valid while ItemsSource is in use. Access and modify elements with ItemsControl.ItemsSource instead. I don't understand how to apply all of this junk that way, I've tried several thing, nothing is working. My goal is to have the selected item's background be white, not blue. Seems like a lot of work for something so small!
