• Which third party tools/library are available for NoSQL databases?

  I know that NoSQL databases are very new. I am also new in this point. But exist already tools/libraries to make the life easer like for SQL databases? I think on tools for managing, maintaining, viewing or reporting of the data. There can also be libraries for easer working with the database or an abstract database layer to change the database later. I would prefer Java libraries but also other are interesting.

  we have SAP Business One - Fourth Shift Edition running here at a small manufacturing company. The consulting company that has come in to do the installation/implementation uses the "sa" id/pass to initially connect to the database to get the list of companies. From then on, I have to assume that its the sa id/pass that is being used to connect the client software to the database. Is this appropriate? I dont know where this data is being stored... as an ODBC connection? directly in the registry somewhere? Is it secure? Would it be better to set the users network ID in the database security and then use the "trusted connection" setting instead? Or do most people create a separate login in the database for each user and use that in the client settings? seems like the easiest way would be to add the users network login to the sql server security so they can use the "trusted connection"... but then wouldn't that allow ANY software to connect to the database from that machine? So anyways: what are the best-practices for setting this up?

  I have a schema (xsd), and I want to create xml files that conform to it. I've found code generators that generate classes which can be loaded from an xml file (CodeSynthesis). But I'm looking to go the other direction. I want to generate code that will let me build an object which can easily be written out as an xml file. In C++. I might be able to use Java for this, but C++ would be preferable. I'm on solaris, so a VisualStudio plugin won't help me (such as xsd2code). Is there a code generator that lets me do this?

  I have two domain names pointing to the same ip, I am currently not using virtual host in my apache configuration. I simply use /var/www/html/ as root of the app. do I need to buy 2 godaddy certificates, one for each domain? It seems that godaddy certificate is tied to a domain, not ip, can someone clarify?

• magento, making a grouped product show on sale based on product children prices

  Hi, Question regarding Magento and sale items. So I have to use grouped items to link multiple items which are the same style but different colors, these are the items I have showing on my search results/category pages. - I am trying to figure out how I can make the master sku, show as on sale, when the children items are marked on sale. I am able to make it show up on the product page, but anytime I have tried calling any of the getchildren methods outside of grouped.phtml, I have failed, horribly. I think I worked on that method for probably 36 hours unsuccessfully calling it from any other page. So, I thought I would ask here. Does anyone know how I could call the getchildskus or whatever it is method, from the category page, so that I can do something like, for each child product, compare sale price with active price, if there is a difference, calculate the percentage off, and display the largest difference as "ON SALE, UP TO 30% OFF!", or whatever it may be? Any help would be much appreciated. (oh, and I cant set a price on the main group sku, I sell sunglasses and watches mainly and many times a different color will differ in price quite significantly.)

  Hi Everyone, I recently started a little company with a couple of guys. Ours is the typical startup, a lot of ideas, dreams, talent and work hours :P. Our initial business plan was to develop a DM (Document Manager) with several features found on DropBox and other tools but with a big differentiator. Then we got in the team this Business Guy (I must say that several of us could be called 'Business Guys' but we are mainly hackers, he is just Another 'Networking Guy'), and along with him came this market analysis for a DM aimed at a very specific and narrow niche. We have many elements to believe in his market study and the idea is the classic "The market is X million, so if we grab a 10%...", and the market is really there to grab because all big providers deemed it too little and fled, let's say that the market is 5 million USD and demand very specific features. If we decide to go for this niche product we face a sales cycle of about 7 months, and the main goal of these revenue is to develop more ambitious projects. (Institutional VC is out of the question if you want to keep a marginal ownership of your company in my country). The only overlap between the niche and the mass market product features is the ability to store documents; everything else requires that we focus all of our efforts towards one or the other. I've studied a lot about the differences between Mass and Niche Markets, but I want to hear from people with actual experience. So everything comes down to this: If you have a really “saleable” idea what is the right thing to do: to go for the niche or go for the big prize and target primarily the mass market?   I have a server running multiple instances of mysql and also has the zabbix-agent running. In zabbix_agentd.conf i have specified: UserParameter=multi.mysql[*],mysqladmin --socket=$1 -uzabbixagent extended-status 2>/dev/null | awk '/ $3 /{print $$4}' where $1 is the socket instance. From the zabbix server i can run the test successfully. zabbix_get -s ip_of_server -k multi.mysql[/var/lib/mysql/mysql2.sock] and it returns all the values However the zabbix item/trigger does not generate the graphs, I have created a MACRO for $1 which is the socket location {$MYSQL_SOCKET1} = '/var/lib/mysql/mysql2.sock' and i use this key in items to poll the value multi.mysql[{$MYSQL_SOCKET1},Bytes_sent] LOGS: this is what i get on the logs: 3360:20120214:144716.278 item [multi.mysql['/var/lib/mysql/mysql2.sock',Bytes_received]] error: Special characters '\'"`*?[]{}~$!&;()<>|#@' are not allowed in the parameters 3360:20120214:144716.372 item [multi.mysql['/var/lib/mysql/mysql2.sock',Bytes_sent]] error: Special characters '\'"`*?[]{}~$!&;()<>|#@' are not allowed in the parameters Any ideas where the problem could be?   Hi all, I have a database of cities (in both the US and the rest of the world). The database entries are simple text strings. Currently the database contains even small cities (population 10,000). I wish to use a larger scale database instead, by assigning the cities into larger geographical\metropolitan areas. An example can be the Metropolitan areas in Google's AdWords API: http://code.google.com/intl/iw-IL/apis/adwords/docs/developer/adwords_api_us_metros.html but I have no problem using other databases instead. I'd be grateful for any advice on how this can be performed using existing databases\APIs!

  I'm having a little trouble with my MySQL- Connection- Pooling. This is the case: Different jobs are scheduled via Quartz. All jobs connect to different databases which works fine the whole day while the nightly scheduled jobs fail with a CommunicationsException... Quartz-Jobs: Job1 runs 0 0 6,10,14,18 * * ? Job2 runs 0 30 10,18 * * ? Job3 runs 0 0 5 * * ? As you can see the last job runs at 18 taking about 1 hour to run. The first job at 5am is the one that fails. The most annoying thing is: The first job that runs first queries Database2 successfully but fails to query Database1 for some reason (CommunicationsException): Caused by: com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.CommunicationsException: The last packet successfully received from the server was 39,376,539 milliseconds ago. The last packet sent successfully to the server was 39,376,539 milliseconds ago. is longer than the server configured value of 'wait_timeout'. You should consider either expiring and/or testing connection validity before use in your application, increasing the server configured values for client timeouts, or using the Connector/J connection property 'autoReconnect=true' to avoid this problem.   Hi, I have apache and mysql set up on my local machine (Mac). Whenever I go to any of my local sites I get the "Error establishing a database connection" whenever anything mySql related happens. It was working perfectly yesterday, but when I started my computer today it is not. I can login to mysql on the terminal and that all works fine, I can view database and run queries in the terminal. Look at all my table etc. I've tried restarting apache. Anyone know what's up? This is worrying.

  I've got a web page where the user can add a new item to a category and that item is saved to the database. However, the ID of the item is an identity value for the database table, so I don't know what the ID will be, and I need this ID so that the user can edit the item later. I'm using ajax to make a POST submit: $.ajax({ url: 'TumourGroup/CreateSub', type: "POST", data: {'pos': index, 'text': text } }); This is linked to an MVC model with three fields, ID, pos, and text. Is there a way for me to get the ID that's generated on POST submit by having CreateSub(int index, string text) return something?

  So basically I have this public class Ticket{ public TicketNumber {get; set;} ..a bunch more properties... } I want to add some properties using a subclass like this using subsumption instead of composition. public class TicketViewModel(Ticket ticket){ //set each property from value of Ticket passed in this.TicketNumber = ticket.TicketNumber; ...a bunch more lines of code.. //additional VM properties public SelectList TicketTypes {get; private set;} } How do I instantiate the properties without having to write all the lines like this this.TicketNumber = ticket.TicketNumber; Is there some kind of shortcut? Something like in the subclass constructor? this = ticket; Obviously this doesn't work but is their some way so I don't have to modify my subclass if addng/removing a property to the parent class? Or something?

  I am trying to build a template geographic database for PostGIS (1.5) on Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) for my GeoDjango application. I am following: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/gis/install/#creating-a-spatial-database-template-for-postgis I've managed to come up to the point where the provided postgis.sql should be run (i.e. psql -d template_postgis -f $POSTGIS_SQL_PATH/postgis.sql) At that point I am getting an error at the first SQL statement that is tried to be run. • dilemma about mysql. using condition to limit load on a dbf

  hi, I have a table of about 800 000 records. Its basically a log which I query often. I gave condition to query only queries that were entered last month in attempt to reduce the load on a database. My thinking is a) if the database goes only through the first month and then returns entries, its good. b) if the database goes through the whole database + checking the condition against every single record, it's actually worse than no condition. What is your opinion? How would you go about reducing load on a dbf?

  ::Hi all:: I am trying to make a bookmarklet that when clicked will check the URL of the current tab\window to see if it contains 'char1' and\or 'char2' (a given character). If both chars are present it redirects to another URL, for the other two it will append the current URL respectively. I believe there must be a more elegant way of stating this than the following (which has so far worked perfectly for me) but I don't have great knowledge of Javascript. My (unwieldy & repetitive) working code (apologies): if (window.location.href.indexOf('char1')!=-1 && window.location.href.indexOf('char2')!=-1) {window.location="https://website.com/";} else if (window.location.href.indexOf('char1')!=-1) {window.location.assign(window.location.href+='append1');} else if (window.location.href.indexOf('char2')!=-1) {window.location.assign(window.location.href+='append2');} Does exactly what I need it to but, well... not very graceful to say the least. Is there a simpler way to do this, perhaps with vars or a pseudo-object? Or better code :D

• Module based web project directory layout with git and symlinks

  I am planning my directory structure for a linux/apache/php web project like this: Only www.example.com/webroot/ will be exposed in apache www.example.com/ webroot/ index.php module1/ module2/ modules/ module1/ module1.class.php module1.js module2/ module2.class.php module2.css lib/ lib1/ lib1.class.php the modules/ and lib/ directory will only be in the php path. To make the css and js files visible in the webroot directory I am planning to use symlinks. webroot/ index.php module1/ module1.js (symlinked) module2/ module2.css (symlinked) I tried following these principles: layout by modules and libraries, not by file type and not by "public' or 'non public', index.php is an exception. This is for easier development. symlinking files that need to be public for the modules and libs to a public location, but still mirroring the layout. So the module structure is also visible in the resulting html code in the links, which might help development. How will git handle the symlinking of the single files correctly, is there something to consider? When it comes to images I will need to link directories, how to handle that with git? modules/ module3/ module3.class.php img/ img1.jpg img2.jpg img3.jpg They should be linked here: webroot/ module3/ img/ (symlinked ?) So this is a git and symlink question. But I would be interested to hear comments about the php layout, maybe you want to use the comment function for this.
