  • Looking for solution to persist rows sequence in a database table that allow efficient reordering at

    I have a database table. There is a field name "Sequence" that indicate sequence when user presents the rows in report or grid visually. When the rows are retrieved and presented in a grid, there are few UI gadget that allow user to reorder the rows arbitrary. The new sequence will be persist in database table when user commit the changes. Here are some UI operations: Move to first Move to last Move up 1 row Move down 1 row multi-select rows and move up or down multi-select rows and drag to new position For operation like "Move to first" or "Move to Last", it usually involve many rows and the sequence those rows would need to be updated accordingly. This may not be efficient enough at runtime. It is a common practice to use INTEGER as sequence's data type. Other solution is using "DOUBLE" or "FLOAT" that could overcome the mass update of row sequence but we will face problem if we reach the limit of precision.

    I've been trying to create a Compound Control in Android 1.5 (as described here) but havn't been able to find any good examples on how to do this using an XML file to specify a layout. I'm fine with creating an Activity and then loading an xml file using the following in the constructor: setContentView(R.layout.main); However, I want to do this in subclass of LinearLayout - so I can use this compound component in other XML layouts. Something along the lines of: public class CustomView extends LinearLayout { public CustomView(Context context) { super(context); setupView(); } public CustomView(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) { super(context, attrs); setupView(); } public void setupView() { setContentView(R.layout.custom); // Not possible } } What is the correct way of going about doing this?

    I have a gridview with edit option at the start of the row. Also I maintain a seperate table called Permission where I maintain user permissions. I have three different types of permissions like Admin, Leads, Programmers. These all three will have access to the gridview. Except admin if anyone tries to edit the gridview on clicking the edit option, I need to give an alert like This row has important validation and make sure you make proper changes. When I edit, the action with happen on table called Application. The table has a column called Comments. Also the alert should happen only when they try to edit rows where the Comments column have these values in them.     In my web application i have statistics which shown for each user separately ie. posts made , posts made today , articles started by and so on... Each user has his own special statistics. What is more flexible and "right" to work with one huge DataTable in Cache with whole data from all users and then loop thought DataTable to find certain user data or to cache each user ie. cacheObj + userID... User can filter his own results by dates and types which is why i need flexible and reliable solution thanks...

    I need start off with code because I am not sure what terminology to use. What are some other approaches one can take to avoid code such as this?     Hi, I would like to be able to send a string of emails at a determined interval to different recipients. I assign to each Contact this series of Emails called a Campaign, where Campaign has Email1, Email2, etc. Each Contact has a Contact.start_date. Each Email has email.days which stores the number of days since a Contact's start-date to send the email. For example: Email1.days=5, Email2.days=7, Email3.days=11. Contact1.start_date = 4/10/2010; contact2.start_date = 4/08/2010 IF today is 4/15, then Contact1 receives Email 1 (4/15-4/10 = 5 days) IF today is 4/15, then Contact2 received Email 2 (4/15 - 4/8 = 7 days). What's a good action to run every day using a cron job that would then follow these rules to send out emails using ActionMailer? Thanks.

    How can I insert arabic characters into sql database? I tried to insert arabic data into a table and the arabic characters in the insert script were inserted as '??????' in the table. I tried to directly paste the data into the table through sql management studio and the arabic characters was successfully and accurately inserted. I looked around for resolutions for this problems and some threads suggested changing the datatype to nvarchar instead of varchar. I tried this as well but without any luck. How can we insert arabic characters into sql database?

    What is the easiest way to have an application launch at startup on Ubuntu server as daemon? This is a java application (java com.run.run.Run) etc. How would I have it launch as a user and possibly have access to write to some log file where the user has permissions to write? And if I don't end up doing that, how would I launch the application as the root user at startup. Edited: It is a headless server, I don't have access to the desktop applications.

    I am building something similar to Server Explorer for Apache CouchDB. One of the things necessary is to be able to edit CouchDB view definitions which in CouchDB are JavaScript functions. How can I trick Visual Studio into using my object to retrieve and save the content of the JavaScript function but still use the rest of it - I am happy with editor itself and have no intention of writing my own Editor/Language Service, etc. The latter would be much bigger effort than what this project warrants Edit After more digging I am still stuck. Here is what I know: IVsUIShellOpenDocument interface provides a method OpenStandardEditor which can be used to open the standard Visual Studio editor. As one of the parameters this method takes a Pointer to the IUnknown interface of the document data object. This object is supposed to implement several interfaces described in many places all over the MSDN. Visual Studio SDK also provides a 'sample' implementation of the document data object VsTextBufferClass. I can create an instance of this class and when I pass the pointer to the instance to the OpenStandardEditor I can see my editor and it seems to work ok. When I try to implement my own class implementing the same interfaces (IVsTextBuffer, VsTextBuffer, IVsTextLines) OpenStandardEditor method returns success, but VS bombs out on call editor.Show() with an access violation. My suspicion is that VsTextBufferClass also implements some other interface(s) but not in C# way but rather in the good old COM way. I just do not know which one(s). Any thoughts?

  • SPRING: How do you programmatically instantiate classes based on information passed from Flex UI

    Imagine the UI passes back an XMl node as such: <properties> <type> Source </type> <name> Blooper </name> <delay> <type> Deterministic </type> <parameters> <param> 4 </param> </parameters> <delay> <batch> <type> Erlang </type> <parameters> <param> 4 </param> <param> 6 </param> </parameters> <batch> And behind the scene what it is asking that you instantiate a class as such: new Source("blooper", new Exp(4), new Erlang(4,6); The problem lies in the fact that you don't know what class you will need to processing, and you will be sent a list of these class definitions with instructions on how they can be linked to each other. I've heard that using a BeanFactoryPostProcessor might be helpful, or a property editor/convertor. However I am at a loss as to how best to use them to solve my problem. Any help you can provide will be much appreciated.
