• I need to access another user's files.

  My system is an HP netbook running Ubuntu 10 netbook edition from a USB drive. I created an admin account and user account, and left in place the 'ubuntu' account. My netbook came with Windows 7 factory loaded and I did some work in Windows before setting up Linux. I copied my work into the HP Tools FAT32 partition that also came Factory Loaded, and was only 20% full. Only the 'ubuntu' account shows the HP Tools partition. So I would like to either view the partition from the 'admin' or 'user' accounts, or copy files from the partition-to a folder accessible from admin or user. I have already tried right clicking the folder, selecting share, and installing the share package, but I got a string of errors and would prefer a short term, one time solution that does not involve installing the share package. All I need is a few plain text Windows files i was working on.

• Alternatives for HP ProtectTools on EliteBook 2530p

  Hi, I'd like to use the HP fingerprint sensor on my Elitebook 2530p. The system is a fresh Win7 Enterprise 64-bit and we are looking for an alternative to the HP ProtectTools Security Suite, which seems a bit bloated. We have tried the UPEK ProtectorSuite (both WBF and stand-alone edition) and they say they can't find the fingerprint device. The device shows up in device manager, in the BioMetric system configuration I have enabled logon to Windows and Domain credentials. Are there any other fingerprint login software (free or commercial) that you can recommend. Thanks in advance, Alex

• After adding data files to a file group Is there a way to distribute the data into the new files?

  I have a database in a single file group, with a single file group. I've added 7 data files to this file group. Is there a way to rebalance the data over the 8 data files other than by telling sql server to empty the original? If this is the only way, is it possible to allow sql server to start writing to this file? MSDN says that once its empty its marked so no new data will be written to it. What I'm aiming for is 8 equally balanced data files. I'm running SQL Server 2005 standard edition. Thanks

I know objdump -T will give me the symbol's address and length but I need the value: $ arm-linux-androideabi-objdump -T libcrypto.so.1.0.0 | grep -i FIPS_signature 001a9668 g DO .bss 00000014 FIPS_signature However, hexdump knows nothing about ELF sections, offsets and virtual addresses, so I can't use the information: $ hexdump -v -x -n 0x14 -s 0x001a9668 libcrypto.so.1.0.0 $ How do I dump the value of the symbol? • Java Issues in Microsoft Internet Explorer & Firefox with Java 6 Standard

  I have a user on Windows XP SP3 running Java 6 Standard Edition Update 20 (build 1.6.0_20-b02). The issue is that when Java applets load the Java splash screen is very shaky (I will have to take a screenshot if you don't know what I am talking about) and than the Java applet screen does not show properly. The Applet we use most is for a security camera and you can't view the camera properly because of the Java issues. I have uninstalled Java and re-installed and still having the same issue. I do not see any errors on the Java Console, and this only happens on his computer I am running the same version of Java and the browsers and do not have the same issue on my machine.

• Machine only responds to network requests from machines it is pinging

  I have two machines. WOPR: Ubuntu server edition 10.10 LTS 32 bit Adam Selene: Windows 7 home premium 64 bit / Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 LTS 64 bit I want to be able to SSH from Adam Selene to WOPR, so I connect them to the same network. Here's where things get weird. I cannot connect to WOPR in any way under normal circumstances. But, if WOPR is pinging Adam, then it starts responding to ping requests, HTTP gets, and SSH tunnels. I'm an amateur, and brand new to Ubuntu server, so I suspect there's a misconfiguration somewhere, but there's an off chance it's a bug in the OS. Does anyone know what might cause this behavior? So for example, I have two different IIS applications(virtual directories) on a web server, and they both point to one state server for session. The session guid from the cookie will be the same across requests from both applications, so will the same session be accessible across both of these applications? Thanks.

  I am using Google Apps Premier Edition. I want to create a disposable email address service and I want to catch all emails for a domain. This means that I should be able to catch all mails sent to an arbitrary userid and/or arbitrary domain and store them into a single Google Apps account. For example, in a single account I want to get all mails sent to: 1) [email protected] 2) [email protected] without requiring to do any extra configuration in Google Apps for abc or xyz. My app will download mails from this account and process accordingly. I have figured out that I could do (1) by specifying a catch all email address. Is the combination of both (1) and (2) possible?

  I have a VMWare vSphere 5 Hypervisor server that has a static ip address assigned to it by VLAN that is configured to perform NAT. The static IP is assigned to the bare metal server via the NIC's mac address. I want to setup a guest machine to also have a static ip address, how can I go about having this setup? I have assigned a IP for the guest's MAC Address but it doesn't seem to be working as when I ping the ip address it does not respond. The guest is running ubuntu 10.04 server edition. I am trying to assign it a static public ip address. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Hi there, Layout: i have at customer side a server (win2003 R2 SP2 standard edition 32-bit) with a sql-server 2005 and some databases. This system starts with the /3GB-Switch. The system reports 3.25 GB RAM and taskmanager reports the process of sqlserver.exe with 2758255 K as the process with the highest consumption. The OS separates RAM for applications and for itself, normaly 50:50. But here we have the /3GB-Switch aktivated and i think the part for the applications is more than 50% of RAM. Knowledge (or better not knowledge): Somebody told me that if the OS runs out of memory within his part of RAM, the server runs into pressing mode. Questions: What is this pressing mode? Is pressing mode possible at all in this szenario? What should be done to get more performance out of this sql-server, beside optimizing the database and all this stuff.

  We just deployed Lync Server 2010 in our organization and it is working great so far. The next step for us is to enable enterprise voice so that we can replace our telephones with service that is handled 100% by Lync. This is where I am at a loss. I have a fully deployed Standard Edition Lync server and a hosted VoIP PBX provider with VoIP handsets. I would like to get rid of the handsets and have my company's phone service be handled by Lync client (e.g. someone calls my work number, and Lync rings instead of my old handset that is set up with the PBX) I am new to deploying these types of features. • IIS7 Itegrated Pipeline Mode: Context.User is intermittently null for Windows Auth

  Our code relies on checking the Context.User.Identity value in the Global.asax Application_AuthenticateRequest(...) method to retrieve some information about the logged in user. This works fine in classic mode but when I flip IIS to use the Integrated Pipeline "Context.User" comes back as null, but only intermittently. Any ideas why? I have < authentication mode="Windows" and only Windows Auth enabled in the Virtual Directory.

  I'm new to linux and I've set up a web server with Ubuntu Desktop edition so I can practice with the GUI a bit before transitioning to Ubuntu Server. I've already set up a LAMP stack as well as FTP. Now I just need to know how to transfer my web files to the /var/www folder in Ubuntu. Previously I've worked on Mac OS and there's a central server for all the web files where I can FTP to. Now after I've managed to connect via FTP to the Ubuntu server, I see all the folders such as Desktop, Downloads, Documents etc but no web folder. Anyone able to help me understand how do I FTP to the /var/www folder in Ubuntu? Thanks

• Grub os-probe showing deleted Windows installation

  I recently purchased a Dell Vostro notebook with Ubuntu Netbook edition 10.04 pre-installed. I tried adding a partition and installed Windows XP but it didn't work out due to too many partitions in the system already. Now I have restored the laptop to factory setting using Dell Utility partition and the Windows partition is completely deleted, however my grub2 still shows Windows on /dev/sda2 sudo os-probe Microsoft Windows XP Professional (on /dev/sda2) Any ideas how to remove it from grub? I know I can remove /etc/grub.d/30_os-probe but I am more interested in why os-probe is showing the deleted partition.

• Windows 8 Unable to perform hibernate

  Windows 8 Enterprise edition x86. Already enabled hibernate option, to have it on shutdown menu (start menu?) and set to hibernate on lid closing. However it's not hibernating for me. When I'm trying to sleep, it's sleep fine and wake up like a kid. But when I'm demanding hibernate, it disconnects internet, turn off screen and be back to lock screen in one second. Steps I've tried. Complete shutdown Clear hiberfile.sys by disabling and enabling back Resetting my power settings. Causes I suspect: Had dual boot with BackTrack with Windows 8 GUI boot manager. It was fine until I reinstall BackTrack, bootmgr resetted and I'm in Ubuntu boot menu;. Using additional hard disk through USB cable.(But it's not a problem before few days, however) How to make my system to hibernate and wakeup again.

  I'm working with a client who is trying to use our software, which accesses information (sends & receives) from a third-party website. When this client tries to access these pages, a window opens, as expected, but is completely blank and no error message is received. This is the first time I've seen this with many other clients successfully using this product, which leads me to believe that it has something to do with the settings on the computer somewhere, but cannot figure out what might be happening. • How can I override the attribute assignment in an active record object?

  I know you can do this with virtual attributes, but what if the column actually exists? For example, my model has a raw_topic column. When raw_topic is set, I want artist and song_title to be set based off of raw_topic's contents. Ideally, I'd like to override the raw_topic= method, but rails doesn't seem to like that. What's the proper way of doing this? Is a callback the only way?

I override all the virtual functions from the base class, and I have a constructor like this : A::A(B* b) { this->b=b; } In the constructor of class B , I have the following piece of code: A* a=new A(this) However this line of code gives the error : undefined reference to 'A::A(B*)' I have absolutly no idea why could this be happening , so any suggestion would be greatly appreciated !
