  • How to loop an array with strings as indexes in PHP

    - by Axel Lambregts
    I had to make an array with as indexes A-Z (the alphabet). Each index had to have a value 0. So i made this array: $alfabet = array( 'A' => 0, 'B' => 0, 'C' => 0, 'D' => 0, 'E' => 0, 'F' => 0, 'G' => 0, 'H' => 0, 'I' => 0, 'J' => 0, 'K' => 0, 'L' => 0, 'M' => 0, 'N' => 0, 'O' => 0, 'P' => 0, 'Q' => 0, 'R' => 0, 'S' => 0, 'T' => 0, 'U' => 0, 'V' => 0, 'W' => 0, 'X' => 0, 'Y' => 0, 'Z' => 0 ); I also have got text from a file ($text = file_get_contents('tekst15.txt');) I have putted the chars in that file to an array: $textChars = str_split ($text); and sorted it from A-Z: sort($textChars); What i want is that (with a for loop) when he finds an A in the textChars array, the value of the other array with index A, goes up by one (so like: $alfabet[A]++; Can anyone help me with this loop? I have this atm: for($i = 0; $i <= count($textChars); $i++){ while($textChars[$i] == $alfabet[A]){ $alfabet[A]++; } } echo $alfabet[A]; Problem 1: i want to loop the alfabet array to, so now i only check for A but i want to check all indexes. Problem2: this now returns 7 for each alphabet index i try so its totally wrong :) I'm sorry about my english but thanks for your time.

  • Confused by this PHP Exception try..catch nesting

    - by Domenic
    Hello. I'm confused by the following code: class MyException extends Exception {} class AnotherException extends MyException {} class Foo { public function something() { print "throwing AnotherException\n"; throw new AnotherException(); } public function somethingElse() { print "throwing MyException\n"; throw new MyException(); } } $a = new Foo(); try { try { $a->something(); } catch(AnotherException $e) { print "caught AnotherException\n"; $a->somethingElse(); } catch(MyException $e) { print "caught MyException\n"; } } catch(Exception $e) { print "caught Exception\n"; } I would expect this to output: throwing AnotherException caught AnotherException throwing MyException caught MyException But instead it outputs: throwing AnotherException caught AnotherException throwing MyException caught Exception Could anyone explain why it "skips over" catch(MyException $e) ? Thanks.

    - by bEtTy Barnes
    hello I've got problem with my combobox. It's not saving the selected value in Edit page. Here what I'm working with: private function inputCAR(){ $html = ""; $selectedId = $this->CAR; //$html .= '<option value="Roadmap Accelerator - Core">Roadmap Accelerator - Core</option>'; //$html .= '<option value="Roadmap Accelerator - Optional Core">Roadmap Accelerator - Optional Core</option>'; //$html .= '<option value="Regulatory">Regulatory</option>'; //$html .= '<option value="Mission Critical">Mission Critical</option>'; //$html .= '<option value="Various CARs/Types">Various CARs/types</option>'; $selection = array( "Roadmap Accelerator - Core", "Roadmap Accelerator - Optional Core", "Regulatory", "Mission Critical", "Various CARs/types" ); $html .= '<label for="car">CAR Type</label>'; $html .= HTML::selectStart("car"); foreach($selection as $value){ $text = $value; $html .= HTML::option($value, $text, $selectedId == $value ? true : false); } $html .= HTML::selectEnd(); return $html; } My option function: public static function option($value, $text, $isSelected=false) { $html = '<option value="' . $value . '"'; if($isSelected) { $html .= ' selected="selected"'; } $html .= '>'; $html .= $text; $html .= '</option>'; return $html; } When I first created a record. The selected value from my combobox got saved into the DB then the page refreshed to display. When I went to edit page, to select another value, and clicked save button. On the display page, it's not saving. For example. on Create page I selected Regulatory. then I changed my mind and changed it to Mission Critical on Edit page. On display page it is not changed. I don't know what's wrong or what I'm missing here. Any help is welcome and truly appreciated. Thanks.

  • PHP Looping....need some advice

    - by Homer_J
    Hi all, I have the following code: $q1 = $_POST["q1"]; $q2 = $_POST["q2"]; $q3 = $_POST["q3"]; $q4 = $_POST["q4"]; $q5 = $_POST["q5"]; $q6 = $_POST["q6"]; $q7 = $_POST["q7"]; $q8 = $_POST["q8"]; At the moment, this is hard coded and I need to manually change it each time, I'd like to use variables instead so that it's not a manual process. Is it a case of using a loop, while or foreach? If I had the the information $q and q in an array would that help? Thanks, Homer.

  • [PHP] Sending Email Notification in Facebook JavaScript API

    - by Veera
    I'm trying to send a email notification to the user from my Facebook application. I'm trying to use the FaceBook JavaScript API function notifications_sendEmail(Array recipients, String subject, String text, String fbml, Object onRequestCompleted) I can understand the first four parameters. But what's the usage of the last parameter 'onRequestCompleted'. The Doc says it's the call back function. But, what if I do not want to execute a call back function? In this case, what will be a valid values to the parameter onRequestCompleted?

  • [PHP] Read and write to a file while keeping lock

    - by Znarkus
    Hi! I am making a simple page load counter by storing the current count in a file. This is how I want to do this: Lock the file Read the current count Increment it Write new count Unlock file/close it Can this be done? As I understand it, the file can't be written to without losing the lock. The only way I have come up with to tackle this, is to write a character using "r+" mode, and then counting characters.

  • reduce bandwidth streaming mp3s php...

    - by Scarface
    Hey guys, quick question for any experts out there. I am allowing users to upload and post mp3s so other users can listen to/stream. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for reducing bandwidth, or any tips or methods for streaming mp3s. I currently just reference the location of the file with my flash mp3 player after the file has been uploaded. I would ask about images as well, but I am pretty sure they can be compressed using gzip or mod_deflate

  • Split string into smaller part with constrain [PHP RegEx HTML]

    - by Sadi
    Hello, I need to split long string into a array with following constrains: Each part will have a limited number of character (e.g. not more than 8000 character) Each part can contain multiple sentences (delimited by . [full stop]) but never a partial sentences. Except if the last part of the string (as last part may not have any full stop. The string may contain HTML tags. But the tag can not be divided as ( to ). That means HTML tag should be intact. But starting tag and ending tag can be stay on different segment/chunk. I think regular expression with preg_split can do it. Would please help me with the proper RegEx. Thank you Sadi

  • php: simplexml exception retry

    - by exceptionhandlingnoob
    I am querying an API using SimpleXML which will occasionally fail for reasons unknown. I would like to have the script retry up to 5 times. How can I do this? I assume it has something to do with wrapping the object in a try/catch, but I'm not very experienced with this -- have tried to read the manual on exception handling but am still at a loss. Thanks for any help :) // set up xml handler $xmlstr = file_get_contents($request); $xml = new SimpleXMLElement($xmlstr); Here is the error message I am receiving: [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: HTTP request failed!

  • PHP/XPath: Iterating through ancestor nodes in XML using SimpleXML

    - by StackOverflowNewbie
    I need to loop through the Ancestors nodes in order to get corresponding BrowseNodeId and Name values. How do I do this using XPath? I'm trying something like the the following, but it's not working: //BrowseNode[1]//Ancestors[1]/BrowseNode/BrowseNodeId/text() //BrowseNode[1]//Ancestors[1]/BrowseNode/Name/text() I think the //Ancestors part of the XPath is actually searching the entire XML tree. What I need to do is visit each node to get the needed values. How do I do this? In the example below, I want: Europe - History - Subjects - Books. Example XML: <BrowseNode> <BrowseNodeId>4952</BrowseNodeId> <Name>France</Name> <Ancestors> <BrowseNode> <BrowseNodeId>4935</BrowseNodeId> <Name>Europe</Name> <Ancestors> <BrowseNode> <BrowseNodeId>9</BrowseNodeId> <Name>History</Name> <Ancestors> <BrowseNode> <BrowseNodeId>1000</BrowseNodeId> <Name>Subjects</Name> <IsCategoryRoot>1</IsCategoryRoot> <Ancestors> <BrowseNode> <BrowseNodeId>283155</BrowseNodeId> <Name>Books</Name> </BrowseNode> </Ancestors> </BrowseNode> </Ancestors> </BrowseNode> </Ancestors> </BrowseNode> </Ancestors> </BrowseNode>

  • Need help with PHP URL encoding/decoding

    - by Kenan
    On one page I'm "masking"/encoding URL which is passed to another page, there I decode URL and start file delivering to user. I found some function for encoding/decoding URL's, but sometime encoded URL contains "+" or "/" and decoded link is broken. I must use "folder structure" for link, can not use QueryString! Here is encoding function: $urll = 'SomeUrl.zip'; $key = '123'; $result = ''; for($i=0; $i<strlen($urll); $i++) { $char = substr($urll, $i, 1); $keychar = substr($key, ($i % strlen($key))-1, 1); $char = chr(ord($char)+ord($keychar)); $result.=$char; } $result = urlencode(base64_encode($result)); echo '<a href="/user/download/'.$result.'/">PC</a>'; Here is decoding: $urll = 'segment_3'; //Don't worry for this one its CMS retrieving 3rd "folder" $key = '123'; $resultt = ''; $string = ''; $string = base64_decode(urldecode($urll)); for($i=0; $i<strlen($string); $i++) { $char = substr($string, $i, 1); $keychar = substr($key, ($i % strlen($key))-1, 1); $char = chr(ord($char)-ord($keychar)); $resultt.=$char; } echo '<br />DEC: '. $resultt; So how to encode and decode url. Thanks
