  • Windows not remembering default audio device?

    I prefer the audio output on my computer to use the standard audio jack output due to volume issues. But I am using a monitor with HDMI. I have chosen to set the default audio device to be "Speakers" But every time I reboot the default audio device is the HDMI Output again. I am running Windows 7 64bit. Why does it not remember the default device? (I do shutdown and boot up properly without errors.)

  • Windows 7 disables ReadyBoost after reboot

    I have a USB flash drive that I dedicated to ReadyBoost on my Windows 7 PC. Whenever I reboot my machine, it "forgets" that the USB drive is configured for ReadyBoost. What could be the reason for this? Google reveals that there are several people with the same issue, but I have not found a conclusive answer so far.

  • Ubuntu 10.04 doesn't accept keyboard input when running under VMware on Windows 7

    I have just installed Ubuntu for the first time using VMWare on Windows 7. Everything has been installed smoothly but after the installation in the login screen username is coming and when I try to enter password it is not taking any input, keyboard is not working at all. After moving away from Ubuntu keyboard and everthing else is working fine. Does anyone know what's the cause behind this ?

  • USB Flash not recognised by Windows and BIOS, but works fine in Linux

    I have a Transcend JetFLash 2GB USB Drive.It was working fine and I had been using it occasionally. All of sudden it stopped working in all versions of Windows . The USB Drive is also not recognised by the BIOS.It does not show in the list of bootable devices.(It used show up in the list earlier) However the USB Drive works fine in my Linux Mint 11 OS.     I've used SimpleOCR, which has a nice GUI for correcting errors. Unfortunately it makes a lot of errors! (and suffers other bugs and limitations) Is there a free OCR program for Windows which has such a GUI and a low error rate? I want it to show the original (bitmap) word while I'm editing the OCRed word similar to what SimpleOCR does: Free is good. Open-source is better.

    Hi, I am not able see any desktop icons, taskbar in my Windows XP system. Also none of the keyboard shortcuts like Win Key + R, Win Key + E are not working. Yesterday I installed AVG 9.0 in my machine and was working fine. But today when I started the system an svchost error occured saying "the memory at location could not be written".   • EICAR like antivirus test for Windows 64 bits

    I'm trying to check my antivirus protection downloading the EICAR test program as usual. The antivirus pops up an alert on the download (that's ok), but I cannot run the EICAR.COM program because it's an 16-bit program and I'm running Win7 64bit. I can run the program on DosBox but it's not the same thing as running it directly from the OS. Is there any antivirus test program like EICAR for 64 bit Windows? TIA, Pablo

    I know I can assign different wallpaper for each monitor that is connected to my computer in Windows 8(by right clicking and selecting "set for monitor 1,2,etc"), but I don't know how to assign different wallpaper slideshow or different theme for each monitor. Can anyone tell me how to do that? It is quite interesting to see different wallpapers on different monitors, but seeing static wallpaper on each of those monitors is no fun. thanks

I don't plan on wanting to check the server every so often, so how can I have an email sent when a drive goes kapüt or otherwise has problems? Keying off the event log would be OK, but how does one set up notifications on it when the exact event ID(s) may not be known?

    I have a Windows 2008 server with two IP addresses assigned to a single NIC. The DNS settings are setup to register the connections's addresses on the DNS server. nslookup shows both IP addresses for the server name. How is name resolution done in this case, i.e. which IP address does the DNS server return for a host lookup? Or does it return both, and the client selects one of the addresses?

    Recently noticed that my icons settings in notification area are getting reset on system restart. For example I specify Skype icon to always show icon and notification. After I restart Windows - it's hidden again. It's not just for one specific icon, it's for all of them. Checking box "Always shows icons and notifications" works, and all icons appear, but this is not an option. Please help. Thanks.
