  • How shared hostings, domain names and DNS work together?

    Hi, I 've this little doubt but I couldn't find information about it, probably because I'm not searching the correct thing. When a browser ask for "www.mydomain.com", the DNS server returns an IP Address, then the browser go there... but what does happen then? I mean, that IP address could be a shared hosting that contains hundreds of web pages and domains, so how does it knows where it have to go? Is something that the web server does? is it something that I could implement in a web application? I mean, for example I have a web application that contains accounts, and each account has a default web page. You could access that page passing the account namne, for example "www.mydomain.com/myaccount", but now I want to register "www.myaccount.com" and then it will get the "www.mydomain.com/myaccount" content. Is it possible? Kind regards.

    I'm testing come code in a service with transactional set to true , which talks to a customer supplied web service the main part of which looks like class BarcodeService { .. /// some stuff ... try{ cancelBarCodeResponse = cancelBarCode(cancelBarcodeRequest) } catch(myCommsException e) { throw new RuntimeException(e) } ... where myCommsException extends Exception .. I have a test which looks like // As no connection from my machine, it should fail .. shouldFailWithCause(RuntimeException){ barcodeServices.cancelBarcodeDetails() } The test fails cause it's catching a myCommsException rather than the RuntimeException i thought i'd converted it to .. Anyone care to point out what i'm doing wrong ? Also will the fact that it's not a RuntimeException mean any transaction related info done before my try/catch actually be written out rather than thrown away ?? Thanks

    Hi all. I have issue about multiple login in asp.net. Case this happen: User X login as "user1" in web browser. Then user Y also login as "user1" also in another web browser. User Y got error message "Another user log in some account". That is work as expected. If X, close their web browser. Then try again to login in as "user1". X get also get "Another user log in some account". So i trying debug then i found session is remove when web browser is close, but cache still remaining in web browser. Anyone have idea about this how to clear cache when user close their browser, (not tab). Regard.

  • Which messanging services can BlackBerry apps integrate with?

    I'm in charge of having a BlackBerry app developed that translates the contents of a message from one language to another. So the aim would be to have a button at the bottom of a received message which says 'translate this'. I've heard that this kind of thing is possible using J2ME plus the native BlackBerry API. Can this be done for all kinds of messanging features on the Blackberry, or just some? ie I'm thinking SMS, email and BB messages. Secondly, given that the translation itself is done via a web request, I feel like this should be a fairly lightweight application. Would anyone care to hazard a guess how long it might take an experienced contractor to develop such an app?

    Hi I am just wondering in VS2010 the web.config is broken up into web.config web.debug.config web.release.config So from what I gathered is the web.config is just like the master template. So I am guessing in my debug I could put things like my local database where in my release one I would put my server database. Now how does it know when to use the release version or debug version? I also here that you can have more than 2. How does that work?

    I have setup a SSRS 2008 and building reports. So far so good. Now there is a picture control in SSRS where you can set the picture as external link reference. There you can choose to use a link. When I use a weblink (http://anyurl/download_picture.aspx?id=123) it dont' work for me. Calling the url in the web browser (all tested IE, Safari, Chrome, FF) the pictures is delivered, Header is ok, content type, too. Does it work in general in SSRS ? Or do I have to copy the picture to a temp folder and link the url like http://anyurl/mypicture.jpg.

    I have a web application setup with a load balancer and auto scaling group to manage scaling. The source code is in a git repository so I don't have to update the images when the code changes, but occasionally the environment changes so we create a new image. Then that image needs to be cycled into the auto scaling group. Is there a way to cycle the images automatically? Right now I schedule a scale up and scale down action which gets rid of the old instances.

  • Where should I go with hosting my site: VPS, GAE, another option?

    My website, http://JonathansCorner.com/, began life before 1994 as www.imsa.edu/~jhayward/ and has been through various iterations and improvements to content, HTML, and the like, but remains a literature site that is from a web administrator's perspective fairly simple and primitive: a fair amount of static HTML and supporting files, a little bit of CGI and URI rewriting, .htaccess files providing Expires: headers and the like. An associated site demoes various CGI scripts that fall under the category of "and other creations"; the site as a whole has the purpose of sharing my creative works, and so far a fairly rudimentary use of Apache functionality, supported by Unix tools to, for instance, update RSS feed and the "starting point" link on the home page, has served that purpose fairly well. I looked around here on web hosting, and found the note on web host reccommendations as a good note for "What are some of people's favorite web hosts overall," but I wanted to ask a more focused question of "What are the best web hosts for criteria XYZ:" I am looking at a VPS so I will have root, be able to install stuff and edit Apache's config files etc., running Gentoo or other Linux, BSD, or the like. I would like a system that is secure enough that the host's vulnerabilities are mostly the ones that come along with what I am trying to do: that is, I won't be trying to administer and secure an ancient Linux like some have complained about at 1and1. I would like good uptime/reliability and competent support staff: if the level 1 help desk is going to tell me to go to "My Computer" on a Linux box, I'd like to be able to get past them. Ideally I would like a site hosted within some place that will have low latency for U.S. visitors in particular. I would like a hosting solution that will be with a stable business, one that will probably be around, and one unlikely to vanish without warning. With those things specified, I would be interested in knowing what are the less expensive options. (I expect that some of the things I've specified will knock out all of the cheapest options, but I'm still interested in price.) With all that stated, I'd like to back up a bit and look at whether I am asking the right question. I am concerned that the above is a very good way of asking, "How can I keep my site in line with the wave of the past?" I am wondering if it might be specifically wiser to look to adapt my site to newer technologies instead of trying to keep it on older technologies. For instance, while I would hardly portray my site as a way to show off the full power of Google App Engine, the main site at least should be a straightforward port if I were to do that. And beyond Google App Engine, my knowledge of cloud solutions is basic. If it is a better and more future-proof solution to port my site to another kind of solution, I would be interested in knowing where those future-proof solutions lie. So I would be interested in wisdom. If the question I asked in detail is still a good question to be asking, what would people suggest? Or if I should seriously consider porting my site to a newer basic option, what should I try there? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Right now I have a web server running on a m1.small type instance and it's performing poorly at peak times, is it possible to increase the amount of memory on the instance somehow, or do I need to create a new EC2 install. What are my options. Please advise.

When I publish the web service application to inetpub\wwwroot (Windows 7, IIS7) it does not delete the old files in the Download directory. The app works perfect when I publish to IIS from a physical directory not in wwwroot. Obviously, it seems IIS places some sort of lock on files in the web root. I have tested impersonating an admin user to run the app and it still does not work. Any tips on how to circumvent the lock programmatically when in wwwroot? The API uses JSON to transfer data from SQL Server to the front end. We need to move it to an internal production environment (nothing will be exposed on the public Internet) and we’re having problems - or just not understanding what needs to be done. There are two domains: The corporate domain - where all users login normally. The process domain - contains the database the Web API needs to access. The IT staff wants to put a DMZ between the two domains to house the IIS app and shield the users on the corporate domain from having access into the process domain directly. The ideal configuration is: corp domain (end users) <–> firewall (open port 80) <–> DMZ (web server running IIS) <–> firewall (open port 80 or 1433????) <–> process domain (IIS for Web API and SQL Server) We don’t really understand how to deploy our browser/Web API application in this scenario. Do we need to break up our application so that all the client code is on the IIS server in the DMZ, while the Web API gets installed on the server in the process domain? Does the entire app (client code and Web API) stay together on the IIS server in the DMZ, which then somehow accesses the SQL Server instance to get data? From the IIS server and app in the DMZ, would you simply access the Web API on the server in the process domain by going to http://server/appname/api/getitmes? In the second firewall between the DMZ and the process domain, would you have to open port 1433 or just port 80 since the Web API is a HTTP endpoint? Or, is there some better way of deployment (i.e., how ASP.NET Web API single page applications written all in HTML5 and JavaScript supposed to be deployed to production environments?)? NB: The servers are Win2k8 R2, SQL Server 2k8 R2, and IIS 7.5.

I cannot tweak any IIS settings. I believe our IIS server version is IIS 7.0. Our Sharepoint Server is anticipating requests via NTLM. Our Sharepoint Server is on the same domain as my client computer. I am using .NET Framework 3.5, Visual Studio 2008 I am trying to write a simple console app to manipulate Sharepoint data using Sharepoint Web Services. I see a lot of links on Google that say "switch to Kerberos", but my server seems to only be accepting NTLM, not "Negotiate" (as it would say if it was looking for Kerberos), so that is unfortunately not an option.     I have a WSDL that the consumer of my web service expects will be adhered to strictly. I converted it into an interface with wsdl.exe and had my web service implement it. Except for this problem, I have been generally pleased with the results. A simple GetCurrentTime method will have the following response class generated from the WSDL in the interface definition: [System.CodeDobmCompiler.GeneratedCodeAttribute("wsdl", "2.0.50727.3038")] [System.SerializableAttribute()] [System.Diagnostics.DebuggerStepThroughAttribute()] [System.ComponentModel.DesignerCategoryAttribute("code")] [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlTypeAttribute(Namespace="[Client Namespace]")] public partial class GetCurrentTimeResponse { private System.DateTime timeStampField; [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlElementAttribute(Form=System.Xml.Schema.XmlSchemaForm.Unqualified] public System.DateTime TimeStamp{ // [accesses timeStampField] } } When I put the response data into the automatically generated response class, it gets serialized into an appropriate XML response. (Most of the web methods have much more complicated return types with multiple levels of arrays.) The problem is that the default serialization of DateTime objects violates one of the requirements in the WSDL: ... <xsd:simpleType name="SearchTimeStamp"> <xsd:restriction base="xsd:dateTime"> <xsd:pattern value="[0-9]{4}-[0-9]{2}-[0-9]{2}T[0-9]{2}:[0-9]{2}:[0-9]{2}(.[0-9]{1,7})?Z"> </xsd:restriction> </xsd:simpleType> ... Note the last part of the pattern where subseconds must be either 1 or 7 characters if they are included. The client seems to be rejecting the response because it does not match that requirement. The main issue is that when .NET serializes a DateTime object, it omits all trailing zeroes, meaning the resulting subsecond value varies in length. (e.g., "12:34:56.700" gets serialized as "<TimeStamp>12:34:56:7</TimeStamp>" by default). We use millisecond precision, so I need all timestamps to format with 7 subsecond digits in order to be compliant with the WSDL. It would be easy if I could specify a format string, but I'm not sure how to control the string that the DateTime object uses to serialize to XML, or to otherwise override the serialization behavior. How do I do this? Keeping in mind the following... I would like to modify the generated code as little as possible... preferably not at all if the change can be made through a partial class or inherited class. Using an inherited class for the return type of the web method will cause the web service to no longer implement the auto-generated interface. The TimeStamp type occurs in other, more complex response types. So, manually overriding the entire serialization process may be prohibitively time-consuming.

I have done the configuration setting (rsreportserver.config, app.config after adding refrences of asmx files) by refrence msdn. The code is running fine (no exception occur) and I also get subscription id through calling create subscription indicate all going fine. But after running the code no entry made in Subscription table of ReportServer database. And also not get any mail. While through report server web tool, I can get email and also entery made in database but not from coe. Please someone help me. What I am missing.   • How to use tscon on Windows7?

    I need to run overnight automation testing using RFT and IE on Windows7 virtual machine. I found that restarting the Windows box before the testing starts helps. I am moving the production environment from Windows XP to Windows 7. RFT used to complain when running RFT scripts that CRFCN0557E: Activation failed when running under a Terminal Services environment. This may be caused by using a minimized terminal window - try playing back without minimizing the terminal window (it does not need to be full-screen). Running tscon.exe 0 /dest:console prior starting any RFT script fix the error on Windows XP. But not on Windows7. I did some research and was trying for hours to fix that but nothing helped. There is no screen saver turned on on Windows7. I tried to run both but nothing helped. tscon.exe 0 /dest:console tscon.exe 1 /dest:console On Windows7 tscon returns {ErrorPrintf(): LoadString failed, Error 15105, (0x00003B01)} Error [15105]:The resource loader cache doesn't have loaded MUI entry. Error [0]:The operation completed successfully. On Windows XP tscon returns Could not connect sessionID 0 to sessionname console, Error code 7045 Error [7045]:The requested session access is denied. I just double checked that running tscon.exe 0 /dest:console on Windows XP solves the issue. Cannot understand the output of the tscon command then. Any idea how I can run RFT scripts after I restart the Windows box automatically? Preferably without involving any other computer. I was even thinking to use the old Windows XP to make remote desktop session to make RFT happy. I hope there is other better solution to that.

    When I start my Windows 7, I get a notification The system event notification service could not be started.... As a result, I dont have Aero, even though my Windows Experience Index is 3.2. Aero used to work fine before today and I have not installed any new application. I have checked the event log and it reads: The System Event Notification Service service terminated with the following error: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress. I am not sure what this means. I have seen the services.msc and everything is fine there. Moreover the startup time has also extended and the Please wait stays for more than a minute. This is a sudden problem as everything used to work fine until today. For Aero I have tried starting Desktop Window manager (as pointed out by the trouble shooter), but with avail. From what I could understand from the forums, the lack of Aero and increased start-up time comes from a single problem of the System Event Notification Service. This is a personal Computer and I have no active directories installed.
