  • App pool gets stuck on reset and takes .net pages out

    Several times after our app pool has been told to reset, it gets stuck, the .net pages go down and the following error appears in the application event log: Failed to execute request because the App-Domain could not be created. Error: 0x80070057 The parameter is incorrect. Our app pool is scheduled to automatically reset at 4am, so the errors stay up until we manually restart the app pool. Has anyone else encountered the error or know of any solutions? Research has suggested it's a permissions issue, but the permissions don't change and the error happens infrequently. The site has no other permission based problems and the app pool identity has permission where needed.

    I have a couple IIS/6.0 servers that security is asking me to remove a couple of response headers that are sent to client browsers on requests. They are concerned about divulging platform information through response headers. I have removed all the HTTP-HEADERS out of the IIS configuration for the website (X-Powered-By or some such header). (I personally do know that this information can be easily found out, even if it is hidden, but it isn't my call.) Headers I want to remove: Server - Microsoft-IIS/6.0 X-AspNet-Version - 2.0.50727 I also know that ASP.NET MVC also emits its own header too, if you know how to remove it also, that would be helpful.     I have an application that takes a long time to open odbc connections (like 20 sec) also takes forever using arcmap and arcsde but when I try the connection on the odbc data source administrator, it tests it really fast Does anyone have any idea of what my be causing this? btw the application works fine in another computer with another database thanks.

  • Can MS Services for Unix be deployed and accessed from a shared drive?

    I'm interested in experimenting with replacing our dependency on MKS with MS' Sevices for Unix toolset. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with deploying SFU on a shared drive? We like to, wherever possible, host our dev tools on one central NAS and call to the NAS to access the tools instead of rolling stuff out to each and every desktop. I'm not interested in the NFS support or ActiveState Perl. Really, none of the daemon technology is required here. I'm looking for replacements for the coreutils/binutils stuff you find in Linux (and MKS on Windows): sed, awk, csh, bash, grep, ls, find -- the meat-and-potates command line apps that our build and test scripts are built around. If I limit the install to just the Interix GNU Components (and maybe the Remote Connectivity components) will is run nicely from a shared location? To head off some questions: Yes, I've looked at Cygwin. Unfortunately it's performance in our build and test environment is poor. It runs considerably slower than MKS and it's not a direct drop-in replacement for MKS (thanks to its internal pathing and limitations with commands like 'ps'), so it's a tougher sell. Yes, I'm looking at the MinGW offering in parallel to this.

  • ASP.NET Session Management - which SQL Server option?

    We're developing some custom web parts for our WSS 3 intranet, and have just run into something we'd like to use ASP.NET sessions for. This isn't currently enabled on the development server. We'd like to use SQL Server as the storage mechanism, because the production environment is a web farm with very simple load-balancing. There are 3 options you can choose from to set up the SQL Server session storage, tempdb, default separate DB, named DB. Both tempdb and default separate DB create a new DB to store certain information in; tempdb stores the actual session info in tempdb, which doesn't survive a reboot, and default separate DB stores everything in the new DB. Since you've got to create the new DB either way, my question is this: why would you ever choose to store the session info in tempdb? The only thing I can think of is if you'd like to have the ability to wipe the session by rebooting the server, but that seems quite apocalyptic!

    I'm looking for recommendations for hosting an asp.net MVC application. Obviously, we need to be able to have access to configure IIS directly - I'd prefer not to have to go thru a control panel. The web server needs to have a dedicated IP, since some clients will be accessing it via IP. We need at least a SQLServer 2005 database, ideally on the same box. Load and usage will be pretty low, so a virtual machine will probably be fine. Does any one have any recommendations that meet the above constraints?

  • Can only access asp.net app on localhost

    I'm trying to get an asp.net application up on IIS on a Windows Server 2008 machine. I can hit the app from localhost, no problem. But I can't access the app using the server's domain name either locally or from another machine on the network. But here's the odd part. I can access a normal file on IIS using the domain name, both from a browser running on the server and from a browser running on another machine on the network. Here's a synopsis ("http" converted to "htp" below because I don't have enough points to have all these links in my message): From IE on the server itself: works htp://localhost/foo.htm works htp://localhost/App works htp://test.foo.com/foo.htm dead htp://test.foo.com/App From IE on another machine (inside or outside my subnet): works htp://test.foo.com/foo.htm dead htp://test.foo.com/App And when I say "dead" I mean the request times out. Any ideas?

    I've got a Samsung Omnia Pro B7330, and am unable to run any program for .net compact framework on it. My last three Smartphones had been HTC brand, and all the programs I tried are just simple winform apps, which ran on all HTC phones. But not on the Omnia. Whenever I try to start an app, I get an "unexpected error" / "NotSupportedException" at: Microsoft.AGL.Common.MISC.HandleArt() System.Windows.Forms.Control._InitInstalce() System.Windows.Forms.Control..ctor() System.Windows.Forms.Button..ctor() MyApp.InitializeComponents() The proper compact framework 2.0 is already installed in the rom, installing CF 3.5 didn't change anything. Anyone can tell me whats the problem with this phone?

  • IIS Hangs on SQL Connections when running ASP.net applications

    We have a database server running SQL 2000 and two web servers hosting ASP.net applications. All three servers are running Windows Server 2003 SP2. Our issue is repeatable after about 2 weeks, IIS on one web server is no longer able to establish SQL connections. Static content loads fine. Other non-IIS applications are still able to contact the SQL database server. ODBC functionality also still works. While running SQL profiler a connection is never established from IIS when it is in this state. The only way to fix this situation is to restart the web server. There are no firewalls installed on any machines.

    I'm running an ASP.NET MVC 3 application on an IIS 7.5 server (my development server). When I set up my production server something goes wrong. Serving the same application binaries, using the same web.config file and connecting to the same database I get different results. Something must be wrong with my IIS configuration, but what? Here's an example I visit http://mysite.com/An/AspNetMvc/Routed/Address/1 and everything works I visit http://mysite.com/An/AspNetMvc/Routed/Address/1.1 works on my development server but not on my production server which gives the following error HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Module IIS Web Core Notification MapRequestHandler Handler StaticFile Error Code 0x80070002 Somehow the URL is served as a static file on my production server which led me to investigate my IIS Handler Mappings, but without luck.

    I download a big file of .Net 3.5 SP1 from http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/e/20e90413-712f-438c-988e-fdaa79a8ac3d/dotnetfx35.exe Now when I try to install it on Windows Server 2012, I get the following screenshot: What the?? When will the microsoft learn? Now this is a loop. When I try to install from Server Manager, I get installation cannot be done. It needs installation disk. Does that mean I can't install at all without the installation disk in presence?

    I’ve got VisualSVN Server running behind a reverse proxy in IIS 6, Windows Server 2003. This isn’t ideal, but for the main web app on the server I’ve only got one IP address and SSL certificate available. Everything works except for when trying to commit to or browse the default ASP.NET directories (App_Browsers, App_Code, App_Data). SVN commits fail for these directories – which I believe is because IIS will never serve them by default. The reverse proxy uses a virtual directory in IIS – is there a change I can make in the web.config for this virtual directory to get around the issue?

    I've created an ASP.NET website and published it to a file from visual studio. Then I've copied my folder to the inetpub\wwwrot directory. Next under IIS I've converted this folder to the application. Unfortunately, when I try to acces it like this: http://localhost/myappname I am getting 404 error. I was thinking that maybe IIS is not configured to process aspx files, but under http://localhost/default.aspx there is a working sharepoint website. Have you got any ides where might be the problem?

    Hi Everyone, I have a Windows 2008 server running as a domain controller. The details are as follows: Domain: corp Server Name: oxygen The workstations are all running Windows XP SP3 and have fixed IP addresses. I am trying to use the net send functionality to be able to send simple messages to either individual machines/users and also to all machines. This is so I can send a message to a user to alert them about something, or likewise alert everyone of something such as the server being rebooted. Is this possible using Server 2008?   • Deleting files using .NET that were migrated from win2k3

    We recently migrated an ASP.NET website from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2, by zipping up all the files and extracting them to the new site. Since migrating the web application is still able to upload and delete files (that are new), however, it's unable to delete files that were copied from the original Win 2k3 app. We're guessing it's a permissions problem because the error is: Access to the path 'E:.......PATH.....' is denied. We've been trying to match the permissions of a newly uploaded file to that of a migrated files. Newly uploaded files seem to get the APP POOL user as a permission and the OWNER. However, the original files didn't have this. Any help that anyone can be would be fantastic. Thanks,

  • What causes Remote Desktop Services Manager to crash in Server 2008 R2?

    I have this consistent problem of RDSM crashing in Server 2008 R2. It is either really slow to open, sometimes never opens, or after it's been open and working properly for a bit, stops working, and forces an unload of the snap-in. It's done this since the deployment of this server, new hardware, new instance of S2k8. Domain Administrator login. I am using it to manage 3 Terminal Servers, the other two are S2k3. I've used it without issues on other 2008 servers.

    Hello, I am upgrading a project from EntLib 4.1 to EntLib 5. I've skimmed through the Migration Guide, changed all the references and updated all the config files to point to EntLib 5. All worked fine accept Oracle database access. With the config file: <configuration> <configSections> <section name="dataConfiguration" type="Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data.Configuration.DatabaseSettings, Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data, Version=5.0.414.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" requirePermission="true" /> </configSections> <dataConfiguration defaultDatabase="prod"> <providerMappings> <add databaseType="Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data.Oracle.OracleDatabase, Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data" name="Oracle.DataAccess.Client" /> </providerMappings> </dataConfiguration> <connectionStrings> <add name="prod" connectionString="Data Source=dev;User Id=dev;Password=dev;" providerName="Oracle.DataAccess.Client" /> </connectionStrings> </configuration> which worked with 4.1 all calls to DatabaseFactory.CreateDatabase() fails with: System.InvalidOperationException: The type Database cannot be constructed. You must configure the container to supply this value. If I replace Oracle.DataAccess.Client with the Microsoft System.Data.Oracleclient it all works again, but is not full of ODP.net lovelyness.     I have an application that downloads/parses a big XML file and store the information using core data (approx. 4000 objects (entities)). The XML is loaded/parsed in a different thread, which has its own NSManagedObjectContext. When trying to save the entities to the persistent store, I sometimes get the following error (about 20%) 2010-03-03 23:41:42.802 xxx[7487:4203] Exception in XML saving 2010-03-03 23:41:42.802 xxx[7487:4203] Description: * -_referenceData64 only defined for abstract class. Define -[NSTemporaryObjectID_default _referenceData64]! 2010-03-03 23:41:42.803 xxx[7487:4203] Name: NSInvalidArgumentException 2010-03-03 23:41:42.804 xxx[7487:4203] UserInfo: (null) 2010-03-03 23:41:42.805 xxx[7487:4203] Reason: * -_referenceData64 only defined for abstract class. Define -[NSTemporaryObjectID_default _referenceData64]! I have a simple integer to keep track of the entities the application creates compared to the insertedObjects property in the NSManagedObjectContext before saving, and when I get the error, these numbers do not match, insertedObjects in the NSManagedObjectContext is missing about 10 entities. I do not know how I should continue to investigate this problem, anyone has any idea how to fix this? Thanks /oscar
