• Update music file details - Java.

  Hi all, Well, I'm a music fan guy, and now with my 18000 music collection, it's getting very hard to maintain. So, I would like to ask I could of question to help to write an app to maintain it for me. 1- How can I access a music file and read details of it? I mean, I would like to write some code and passing the directory, my app would read all the music files (understand mp3 files) and with that I would like to access details like title, artist, length and so on... 2- Is there a public source that I could access and update my file? A webservice somewhere that I could connect, query some information based on song name, or artist or whatever. I would like to achieve a final result of given a directory, my app would read the file, collect some information and query the source for a complete list of detail and update my file. • How might one detect the first run of a program?

  In my web application, users can download a .tar.gz archive containing the app files. However, because the MySQL database won't have been configured then, the user needs to run the install script located in ./install. I "catch" the user upon first run of the app by checking to see if the ./install directory exists. If so, the index.php page redirects the user to the install script. However, I was wondering if there were a more elegant way to "catch" a user upon first-run of a program. Someone on IRC suggested the web-server create a file .installed upon completion, but because the web server might not have write privileges to the web root directory, I can't rely on that. How would you go about solving this problem, or is my solution workable?

  I’m trying to use a Visual Studio Setup Project to deploy a C# Application. In a VS Setup project, is it possible to dynamically change the application folder before a project is installed, or even to add any code behind the set-up project at all? What I am trying to achieve is an msi that runs, calculates the installation directory based on some external factors and then installs to that directory. I then want it to run the application immidiately. The objective for this is no user intervention throughout.

• Running JBoss 4.2.3 and JBoss 5.1 on the same server

  I want to run JBoss 4.2.3 and JBoss 5.1 on the same server, but not simultaneously. I just need to be able to switch back and forth between the two for testing, so I don't need to change ports or anything like that. My problem is the JBOSS_HOME environment variable. When I set up a /soft/JBoss-4.2.3.GA directory and a /soft/JBoss-5.1.0.GA directory I can run the respective bin run.sh commands, however, both try to use the $JBOSS_HOME and $PATH environment variables which are set to the first installation (JBoss-4.2.3). So, how can I set separate environment variables? Or tell my new JBoss 5.1 installation to use another environment variable for JBOSS_HOME? How would I go about getting these two running together?   In the interpreter for my programming languages I have to correctly handle the parts in case the import function is called. I then need to check if such a file is in the /libs folder (located at the same place as my executeable!) and if it doesn't exist I have to check in the directory of the current script. How can I get the exact path to the directory where the executeable is located from argv? What is the best way to remove the file from the end of a path, e.g: C:/a/b/c/file.exe should become C:/a/b/c/

• Should the name of my classes begin with 'Q' in Qt?

  Hello Everyone, When I first started working with Qt, it was extremely annoying that every class has a name beginning with 'Q', but now I've got used to it. I'm using Qt Creator, and it highlights code quite well. However, it only highlights class names beginning with 'Q'. And it highlights everything beginning with 'Q' even if there is no such type. It doesn't highlight custom class names. That makes me wonder, should I also begin all my class names with 'Q'? Or at least the reusable ones? (I mean, those that I put in a class library, or reuse in another app.) I've seen several places where they named their classes this way. Is it a good thing? I found this page about Qt's naming conventions, but it doesn't deal with this question. Also, I don't understand why Qt doesn't use namespaces.

• Tools for displaying text, powerpoint style, in linux

  I have a problem where I need a way to display a repeating series of "images" on a computer monitor. Specifically, given a series of text files, I'd like a way to display the contents of said files on a screen in a way much like a powerpoint would. My current thoughts are to find some tool that will take in a text file of some format, and then output an image which contains the text from the file. Then I'd put it in a directory and have some Slideshow program continuously go between the images in that directory. It's a very hacky solution, obviously. So, does anyone know of tools that would do such a thing? Or is there a better way to do this? I've looked into the library libgd2, but it doesn't seem to support text-wrapping for images, which is something I'd need. Thanks!

Mandatory arguments to long options are mandatory for short options For some mysterious reason capital letters get duplicated. Can anyone explain what's going on?

• Where to install shared DLLs on Windows

  I have a driver which can be installed on Windows (XP/Vista/7). It's accessed via a DLL that applications link to, and which is also a Winsock Provider (WSP). It used to be installed under System32, but having seen advice not to, I changed it to install under ProgramFiles instead. Now, the problem is that people are having to either copy it back into System32 or copy it into the application directory whenever they want to use it in their own applications, because Windows won't search the install directory under ProgramFiles when the application tries to load the DLL. I've been unable to find any Microsoft documentation discussing this issue, so if System32 shouldn't be used then where should shared DLLs be installed?

• How does Rails Plugin Storage work?

  Trying to figure out how to install rails plugins manually on windows so I have a few questions. What does the directory need to be named in vendor/plugins? Is it arbitrary or is it linked to something within the plugin config files or is that what you set in the environment.rb? Once I've copied the files to the correct directory, do I always need to run something inside like init.rb or is it good to go? What's the difference between 'require' and 'include'? Thanks!

• Hudson results one step behind

  I'm using the filesytem plugin for Hudson, and when a build happens it looks for new/modified files, copies them to the Workspace, runs tests using Rake, and then publishes those junit xml result files. However, the updated junit xml result files don't get pushed to the workspace until the next build. This means that when the publishing of the junit xml result files happens, it's always one step behind. And this means I need to run a build twice before the results show. The Rake task is creating the junit xml files in the project directory. I've tried outputting to the workspace directory, but it seems to make things worse and the results don't get published at all. Am I doing something fundamentally wrong here? Is there a simple way of getting those junit xml results pushed to the workspace so that the post-build "Publish JUnit test result report" actually runs against the newly created xml files?

• Rails + Passenger CSS problem

  I'm trying to deploy my first Rails app. At first, I was getting the following error: ActionView::TemplateError (Permission denied) I set the permissions of the stylesheets folder to 777 (just for now until I work out what's going wrong) and the application started to work. However, it is not picking up any of the stylesheets (everything is displayed in plain text). If I view the source code and click the CSS links, I just get a blank page. Javascripts however, seem to be working just fine. VHost Config: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName xxxx.xxx.com DocumentRoot /home/myapp/public <Directory /home/myapp/public> Allow from All AllowOverride all Options -MultiViews </Directory> </VirtualHost> Can anyone help?   I see a lot of c++ code that looks like this: for( const_iterator it = list.begin(), const_iterator ite = list.end(); it != ite; ++it) As opposed to the more concise version: for( const_iterator it = list.begin(); it != list.end(); ++it) Will there be any difference in speed between these two conventions? Naively the first will be slightly faster since list.end() is only called once. But since the iterator is const, it seems like the compiler will pull this test out of the loop, generating equivalent assembly for both.

  I am having trouble getting the Bake console. I am on windows running xampp. I'm doing the IBM cakphp tutorial. Here is my directory: C:\\ xampp htdocs ibm2(a test project--orginally called cakephp) app cake vendors (etc) It says to To use Bake, cd into the /webroot/app directory and launch the Cake Console: ../cake/console/cake bake. You should be presented with a screen that looks like Figure 2. So I write in my command prompt till I am at: C:\xampp\htdocs\ibm2\app Then I type ../cake/console/cake bake but I get this error: '..' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. What am I doing wrong? I use the window's command prompt

• Equivalent for Java's System.getProperty("java.io.tmpdir") in C ?

  As the title says, the java.io.tmpdir property in Java is really nice, and I can't find an equivalent for C. I'm writing for Windows and in Visual Studio. I don't want to just use something like C:\Temp because in later versions of windows the appropriate directory could be something like C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\Temp and a way to retrieve this would be much easier. I want a directory and not just a temp file because I'm downloading and executing a file from the internet. As a side note, if anyone can give me tips about how to better google for C stuff it would be much appreciated :)

Everything seems well however the files are getting uncompressed in the folder which has the main perl code module which is running the sub modules. When using $tar-extract() it uncompresses in the folder which calls this metohd. when I use $tar-extract_file($arch_file,$dirpath."/$file_name" ) I get an error : No such file in archive: '/home/fsang/dante/workspace/output/s.tar' at /home/fsang/dante/lib/Extraction.pm line 80 Please help I have checked that path and input output there is no issue with it.   Lets say I have a directory at \testfolder, and the latest is currently at /main/10. I know that the operation resulting in testfolder@@/main/6 is to remove a file named test.txt. What's a sequence of cleartool operations that can be done in a script that will take "testfolder@@/main/6" and "test.txt" as input, and will cat out the contents of test.txt as of that time? One way I can think of is to get the time of /main/6 operation, create a view with config spec -time set to that time, and then cat the test.txt at the directory. But I'm wondering if I can do this in a easier way that doesn't involve manipulating config specs, perhaps through "cleartool find" and extended path names

• I tried installing Ubuntu 10.04 and I got this message - any ideas on what to do?

  No root file system defined. Please correct this from the partition menu. This message shows up when I first boot into Ubuntu after the installation. I installed it by mounting the ISO with Daemon Tools, and I just did the default Wubi installation. I keep reading everywhere that I need to choose my installation directory, but I don't get any option to do that. These are all the options I get for installation directory. I have a C and D partition on my drive, and I tried installing it on both and no luck either way. Any ideas?

  Hi , We have developed implemented single sign on methodology to authenticate user. When a page is requested, if it is not authenticated then a login page will be redirected. Once they logged in the requested page will be shown. this is working when we don't assign a domain to the virtual directory. But when we assign the domain to virtual directory after the authentication the application is not redirecting to the requested page. We are using FormsAuthentication.GetRedirectUrl method to redirect the requested page. Why this is happening? How can we resolve this issue?
