• Custom widgets/controls in application indicators

  I want to develop an app for ubuntu, that integrates inside the calendar indicator/menu. It should allow to enter info right from it, and have several controls like input boxes, drop downs, spinners and buttons. Is this possible to integrate/replace the standard date/time indicator? If not, is it possible to create it as a separate indicator that when clicked opens a popup with all the controls and stuff? I want it to look as part of the sys tray and not as a separate desktop app. I'm using Quickly for this. Thanks for your help!

• pygame.Rect around circle

  I'm trying to make a pong game in pygame , but i can't figure out how to but a ball circle , which i can create with pygame.draw.circle into a pygame.Rect object so i can use the colliderect function and manipulate the ball's position. For example, with rectangles, i can do something like this : rect = pygame.Rect(255, 255, 100, 100) pygame.draw.rect(screen, yellow, rect) and then when i change the pygame.Rect object position , the drawing primitives position also changes. How can the same effect be achieved when i want to draw a circle, instead of a rectangle? Thank you.

• sprite group doesn't support indexing

  I have a sprite group created with pygame.sprite.Group() (and add sprites to it with the add method) How would I retrieve the nth sprite in this group? Code like this does not work: mygroup = pygame.sprite.Group(mysprite01) print mygroup[n].rect It returns the error: group object does not support indexing. For the moment I'm using the following function: def getSpriteByPosition(position,group): for index,spr in enumerate(group): if (index == position): return spr return False Although working, it just doesn't seem right... Is there a cleaner way to do this? EDIT: I mention a "position" and index but it's not important actually, returning any single sprite from the group is enough

• How to copy the file from source to destination only once at a time?

  I have to copy the file from my desktop to my mounted directory. I was using the following command to copy the file from my desktop to mounted directory. os.system("cp -f /home/Desktop/filename /media/folder_1"). It works fine. But the problem is while copying the file from my source to mounted directory(folder_1) if any interruption is happens like network down, then the system continuously keep on trying. It couldn't skip that process. Finally, when the network comes the files are again copy to my mounted directory. Due to this continuous trying, next time i try to move the content it throws "permission denied" error. How do i copy the file only once, if any network issues happen then it will not keep try to copy, instead of that, it throws the error. If you know, Let me. Its very useful to me.

• Capslock as modifier key for AutoKey

  I want to use Capslock as a modifier key for AutoKey shortcuts, and I've successfully remapped it to its own custom key using the terminal command xmodmap -e 'clear Lock' -e 'keycode 66 = F13'. However, AutoKey seems to only allow the modifiers Ctrl Shift Alt Super when setting shortcuts. As a work-around, could I somehow define the shortcuts within the script itself? Would this even be the most efficient work-around? P.S. I found a relevant page, though I'm not exactly sure how to implement it. P.P.S. I found a cheap way to do this by mapping Capslock to Shift+Alt and then setting all appropriate shortcuts in AutoKey with the modifier Shift+Alt. However, I'd really prefer having Capslock as its own modifier. Any help would be appreciated.

  We are working with a group of developers on a project. The project is still in progress (not completed) and these developers charge us for time spent on fixing bugs on codes that were not written valid in the first place. I understand that we should pay for changes/new requests if any, but not bugs fixes for a work in progress. We also understand that once the assignment is being deployed to the live site, we may be liable for bugs fixes that may arise after a support period is being exhausted. The question now is, is it appropriate for such charges to be levied upon us while the project is still in progress?

• Has the Appindicator or GtkMenu API changed in Saucy?

  I've written a custom application indicator, which isn't working properly on saucy. The menu is initialised with a few items, then updates regularly, adding or removing menu items. This worked fine <13.10, but on 13.10, the line that adds the menu to the indicator produces the following warning: Warning: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.38.0/./gobject/gsignal.c:2475: signal 'child-added' is invalid for instance '0x24390e0' of type 'GtkMenu' self.ind.set_menu(self.menu) And the items added to the menu subsequently dont appear. A bug has been filed against several indicators for the same problem, but it's not clear to me whether this is a problem with the indicators as a result of an API change, or a bug in the GTK or Appindicator libraries. Does anyone know?

  So I spent several hours in rage, figuring out why isn't my code writing to the /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm correctly. The problem is that it doesn't return anything if the value is wrong. And finally I noticed this small 5 between the year and the day. Why isn't it counting days and years from zero for consistency?   I am using Quickly and created the main window and a dialog. In the main window I am setting access to database (u1db) in the finish_initializing method (self.db=...). After an action I open a dialog where I need access to the database. I thought that I can use self.get_parent() in the dialog to get instance of the main window and access the database, but return value of the get_parent() is None. My question is, how can I access the instance of the parent window in the dialog or perhaps where should I place the instance of the database wrapper?   I wanted to create a parser that can read a solidworks file and turn it into a protein data bank file. This has already been done in a program called DiamondCAD. http://www.zyvex.com/Research/DiamondCAD.html I waant to make a parser that can parse the data and then visualize it the same way as DiamondCAD. I have downloaded and opened solidworks files before and they make no sense to me with never before seen symbols and looks like ancient writing. Does anyone know how a sldprt. file is structured and how it can be parsed into a PDB file? (A software called VMD converts a PDB to Obj. file so it is proof of concept)

I am thinking about a client/server application and being new to this kind of application I have search a bit around the web and the solution which come the more often is to create a new thread for each new client connection. This solution seem fine but I was wondering if it was still usable with a application where you can have thousands of client at the same time ? Of course if there is thousands of client the application will not be hosted on a small desktop but on a real server, but is it the way to design an application for a large number of client ? • Simple WCF question.

  So I am learning WCF and I have run across an issue that I believe has to do with Instance Control/State but I am not sure. Workflow is as follows, Basic client/server paradigm. The client calls a Method RetrieveBusinessObjects(criteria) and the server calls the datalayer and then puts them in an IList on the server side. It does not return this list to the calling Client. The client would then call a method say DisplayBusinessObjects() which would retrieve the IList from the Server, serialize them, bring them across the wire and display them. If i try this using the WCFTestClient it works. If I run it from an actual client then I get back an BusinessObject[] of size 0. Which to me indicates I had no objects to return. Is that a state mgmt issue or am I missing something?

  There is one server with multiple clients. The clients are viewing subsets of the servers entire data. If the data that a client is viewing changes, the client should be informed of the changes so that it displays the current data. Example: Two clients are viewing a list of users in an administration screen. One client adds a new user to the list and modifies the permissions of another user. The other client sees the changes propagated to their view. In the client side code I would like the users list to be updated by the framework itself, raising changed events such that it will be redrawn - similar to 'cells' or dataflow. I am looking specifically for a .NET or java implementation.

• Rundeck get verbose output of command executing on node

  I have Rundeck executing a remote script, which is in python is using print statements to return output normally such as: $ python mytest.py PASS: Condition 1 passed PASS: Condition 2 passed PASS: and so on... When I run this via Rundeck, however, it doesn't show me the same print generated outputs as above. • DirectAccess client can't connect

  I've set up a DirectAccess server on Windows Server 2012 at my workplace. I'm using a Windows 8 Enterprise client to connect to it. It works fine over a mobile connection, but it fails when connecting from home. I've ruled out the firewall/router as the culprit as the issues persist when connecting the laptop directly to the cable modem. I'm not sure where to begin to debug this, does anyone have any pointers? Both Teredo and IPHTTPS interfaces are up (although as the server is behind a NAT and we only have 1 public IP I understand that IPHTTPS is the only protocol that will be used). • Can't add client machine to windows server 2008 domain controller

  A bit of background before I dive into the gritty details: I have a single server running Windows 2003 Server where I host my ASP.net website and SQL Server + Reports. I've been creating ordinary windows user accounts to authenticate my users, and I enabled integrated windows authentication with impersonation. I've set up a bunch of user groups which correspond to certain roles (admin, power user, normal user, etc) and I test membership to enable or disable certain features. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the solution, it was quick to setup and I don't have to worry about messing around storing passwords and whatnot. Well, what I'm trying to do now is set up a new environment with 3 servers (Web, SQL, Reports) and I'd like these three servers to share common user accounts. I understand that I could add these three machines to a domain, which means installing Active Directory on one of the machines. I am barking up the wrong tree here? Would you suggest an alternative configuration? Assuming that I stick with AD, I have a couple of questions regarding DNS. To be honest, I'd rather not fiddle around with the DNS settings because my ISP already has their own DNS server which works just fine. It would appear however that DNS and AD are intertwined. Firstly, if I am to create a new domain in called mycompany.net, do I actually need to be the registered owner of that domain name and ensure the DNS entry points to the IP address of the machine hosting AD? Secondly, for the two other machines that I am trying to add to the domain, do I need to fiddle with their DNS settings? I've tried setting the preferred DNS Server IP address to that of my newly installed AD, but no luck. At this point, I can't add the two other machines to the domain. Here are some diagnostics that I have run based on a few suggestions I read on forums (sorry they're in French, although I could translate if needed). I ran nltest, which seems to indicate that the client can discover the domain controller. When I run dcdiag, the call to DsGetDcName fails with error 1722, not really sure what that means.   I've a PPTP server setup on my local home network (192.168.1.0/24, pfSense). Now sometimes when I'm away and want to connect remotely my client (Windows 7) is also on the same network because e.g. the hotel has set it up the same way. Thus the connection works, but I can't reach any PC on my home network because everything is routed directly to the client local router which is in the same subnet. Is there a way to work around this by messing with a configuration or adapting Windows routing table, i.e. without modifying either network?

  I'm trying to setup a vSphere Client vCenter v5.0.0 Build 455964 Template Customization Specification using a Windows Sysprep unattended answer XML file for Win2008R2. However I didn't know how Sysprep worked before attempting this so it was a time-consuming nightmare (even after reviewing VMware vSphere ESXi 5's documentation)! I think I've figure out what I'm supposed to be doing, but it's still not working. The biggest problem at this point is that vSphere Client vCenter Customization Specification IP address information is not sticking when I load a Sysprep XML file with just 1 basic setting! This can only be a bug. Here is the process I'm using: PROCESS for Windows - vSphere Client Install Windows OS install VM Tools customize Windows (GPOs can be used to do this after deployment) install Applications (GPOs can be used to do this after deployment too) shutdown the VM convert the VM to a template create a custom Windows Sysprep XML answer file with desired customizations View Management Customization Specifications Manager create "New" Specification for "Target Virtual Machine OS" select Windows check "Use Custom Sysprep Answer File" (ADDS: Custom Sysprep File. KEEPS: Network (IP), Operating System Options (SID, Sysprep /generalize). REPLACES: Registration Information of Owner Name & Organization, Computer Name, Windows License (Key), Administrator Password, Time Zone, Run Once, Workgroup or Domain) name it as "VMwareCS-OS####R#x32/64w/Sysprep-TEST" (CS=Customization Specification) set Description as "Created YYYY/MM/DD by FLast" NEXT import a Sysprep answer file from secure location NEXT Custom settings NEXT click "..." box to right of "Use DHCP" set "Use the following IP settings:" for "IP Address" fill out the first 2 octets set appropriate values for other 2-3 fields set DNS server addresses OK NEXT check "Generate New Security ID (SID)" ALWAYS as template is likely a domain-member computer so it can be updated occasionally NEXT Finish View Inventory VMs and Templates right-click previously completed template Deploy Virtual Machine from this Template provide the new OS name (max15char) select inventory location NEXT select Host/Cluster (wait for validation to succeed) NEXT select Resource Pool (wait for validation to succeed) NEXT select Storage location NEXT check "Power on this virtual machine after creation" select "Customize using an existing customization specification" select desired specification select "Use the Customization Wizard to temporarily adjust the specification before deployment" NEXT NEXT Custom settings?
