I've been using Chrome's built in bookmark sync which seems to work well.
Is there a way to force Chrome to do the sync as opposed to waiting for the alloted 'sync time'?
With iGoogle shut down I haven't been able to replicate my homepage through other services. I'm not asking for a generic replacement for iGoogle, but how to accomplish a specific use case whether through a third-party dashboard, browser extension, or some DIY solution.
I need an interactive Gmail inbox, Gmail Tasks, and Google Calendar in the same Firefox tab. If hosted by a third party, they need to authenticate safely using the Google account that I am logged in with. Other widgets would be useful but I only require those Google services.
I'm using Gmail itself for now but there is hardly room for the other widgets in the sidebar. Both Google Sites and igHome won't reliably load the services, especially Tasks. Netvibes requires raw login information for third-party services.
I'm having difficulty connecting Chrome to TOR. I started trying yesterday. I started Vidalia and the TOR Browser and then followed the advice at http://lifehacker.com/5614732/create-a-tor-button-in-chrome-for-on+demand-anonymous-browsing - downloading Proxy Switchy and setting it up as stated.
This resulted in Error 130 (net::ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED) (in Chrome, when I tried to load a webpage). So I looked into Vidalia's settings and noticed that it appeared to be using port 9051, so I set that instead of 8118 as everyone on the internet seems to be suggesting.
Then I got a new error: Error 111 (net::ERR_TUNNEL_CONNECTION_FAILED). Digging a bit, I found that Tor should be set as a SOCKS proxy, not an HTTP proxy, so I unticked "use same settings for all protocols" in Proxy Switchy and just set localhost:9051 for SOCKS. That got me Error 7 (net::ERR_TIMED_OUT).
And that's when I came here for help. I typed up the above question, but then at the last minute decided to do a bit more reading and found someone here suggested using some command line arguments via a Windows shortcut:
"C:\snip\chrome.exe" --proxy-server=";socks=127.0.0.1:9051;sock4=127.0.0.1:9051;sock5=127.0.0.1:9051" --incognito check.torproject.org
And that worked perfectly. Yesterday. Today it doesn't, so I'm having to post this question after all. check.torproject.org gives me a "no" with Chrome, but a "yes" with the default Tor Browser. I tried closing Chrome and restarting it (yes, with the correct shortcut) after Vidalia started, but still nothing. The port number hasn't changed or anything. What gives?
EDIT: I realized I had a "non tor" instance of Chrome running and that possibly the was causing the command line args t be ignored when I started the new instance. Closed all instances of chrome and ran my Chrome Tor shortcut, and it did get rid of the "not using Tor" message -- because I got another Time Out error instead. Vidalia's bandwidth graph didn't even blink.
When using Chrome to debug, I find it incredibly difficult to be efficient due to the fact that I don't see how I can force the "Network" tab of the developer tools to show the full request URI.
It will show the full URI if you hover the link and wait a second, but this is incredibly counterproductive.
All of my AJAX requests are sent to ajax.php, and handled by using query string arguments, like:
ajax.php?do=profile-set
ajax.php?do=game-save
... etc.
Since I use AJAX extensively, my network tab is filled with "ajax.php", but I have to manually hover each and every entry to find the request I am looking for.
Surely there has got to be another way!?
I am constantly fed up by something new in Firefox and immediately force myself back into Chrome, but it is always the developer tools in Chrome that keep me from using it for an extended period of time.
Hopefully I can find out how to do this so I can continue using Chrome as my numero uno.
I've provided a screen shot to show you where I mean:
I just upgraded to lucid, and now flash won't work in chrome (though it works in firefox). I even switched over to the dev channel, which supposedly has flash built in, but it still doesn't work.
In Opera, when you hold left-click and right-click, you move forward. When you do the opposite, you move back. Is there a way to configure chrome to do the same?
Ok, so on my MacBook Pro I'm seeing some weird stuff when using Chrome. Occasionally, the screen will momentarily get messed up (see pic). Usually this happens for less than 1 second but one time it froze like that long enough for me to get the screen shot shown.
Only seems to happen when using Chrome (Version 35.0.1916.114).
OSX 10.9.3
Happens on both primary monitor and when attached to secondary
display
Does not seem to happen to other windows being shown on same
screen
Is this a known issue? Possible causes?
One of my favorite features of the Firefox AwesomeBar is that I can simply type a substring of any URL or page title in my history and it finds all matches sorted by how frequently they were accessed.
Example: I simply type "ask" when I want to ask something on stackoverflow.com., "inbox" goes to my GMail Inbox and so on because the substring matches any part of the URL or the page title.
Chrome's Omnibar is quite frustrating in this area. I am not able to predict what it's gonna fetch and I seem to have no way to train the thing to do my bidding. I have unchecked the option that says: "Use a suggestion service to help complete searches and URLs typed..." but there has been no noticeable improvement.
Any clues how I can make the Omnibar behave?
I am looking at the next step in our Groupware solutions.
Rather got with a conventional add a new MS Server/MS Exchange to allow for growth and expanding offices.
Could an Office operate with both an existing Exchange server setup and migrate a portion of mailboxes to the GoogleApps platform?
I want to see if the we could use the GoogleApps for managers and larger mailboxes, and leave a large amount of small mailboxes on the existing hardware that is configured for Exchange/outlook?
Can the two co-exist in an longterm configuration, where they can 'play nice' together? Is there any options that would allow for for this and would this have limitations? Such as the Free/busy connectors (Calendaring)?
Is there any pitfalls for this type of design?
Thanks
When I came back to my work computer after being away for a week I found out when I try to clear the cache and refresh the page via ctrl + f5 (or just f5) I get the prompt "Type the Internet address of a document, and Internet Explorer will open it for you" with a drop down list in IE. When I try f5 in Chrome and FF it opens the "Open file" dialog box.
When I try to f12 for Dev tools in IE, Chrome & FF it opens up the print dialog box.
Why is this happening and what can I do to revert it back to the way it was?
I'm considering moving from using Firefox to using Chrome. (I'm on WinXP)
Two questions:
What is the best way to achieve adblockplus-like functionality on Chrome?
Is it possible to save my session when I close the Chrome window so when I open it again I'll see the same tabs?
In the Chrome developer tools, under the network tab, I'm curious to know what is happening during the gaps. If you look at my image below, I have highlighted in orange the areas where these gaps exist. Where I'm able to load a lot of my page from cache it's a shame these large gaps occur as they make up most of my page load time. What exactly is happening in this time?
EDIT
Okay I found this answer which essentially sums up my question, so a different question: does anyone know a good method to reduce the length of these gaps? Presumably (albeit rather extreme) if I loaded all my CSS on the page there wouldn't be a delay after loading the CSS file before the images were loaded.
I have Chrome 37 installed as my main browser. Recently I needed to test a design in a new, Chromium based Opera version 21.0.1432.67.
This later one hijacked my global shortcuts somehow, so if I press Ctrl+Shift+N to start a new session for testing, even if Chrome is running, and it is the active window, the shortcut starts a new Opera tab - even if the program is not running.
It is highly annoying. Even if I uninstall Opera, I'm unable to use the aforementioned shortcut, because it will not work at all.
Any hints on how to restore the original shortcut?
When I'm browsing I always use the address bar to search, but when I do this in Internet Explorer 10, I get taken to the default search engine Bing.
So I started looking in the Internet Options to see if I could change it, but I couldn't find the right option.
There's no clear way to add Google from this screen and when I clicked: Find more search providers..., you get taken to IE Gallery where Google isn't even listed.
So how do I change my Internet Explorer 10 search engine to Google?
I have several distribution lists in Outlook 2003 that I need to move to Gmail. While transferring contacts in the main folder is fairly easy—all one does is export to CSV and import—it's not as easy with the distribution lists.
I can't (don't know how to) copy the contacts from the lists to the main contact folder so they can be "normal", and the "save as" options don't include a CSV. There are several of these to do, containing maybe ~100-200 contacts altogether, so I'd like something that's not very tedious.
I don't know enough about Ram & sharing to know what the difference is here.
Normally, I run Chrome in one desktop for personal use, and Firefox on a second desktop for business. I like the separation of saved passwords and whatnot.
However, I recently learned that I can open two different profiles in Firefox at the same time, so I was wondering if that would be cheaper to my system resources, or not? Out the door, I don't think it would save more than 40-60mb of ram... but I'm wondering, 3 hours later, if ram handling will be better using just one browser for all my heavy lifting.
I only have 2gb of ram and I run iTunes and Photoshop as well, almost all day. So I like to save ram where I can.
Any thoughts?
UPDATE: I've been centering around chrome more recently and using firefox for testing. Dev isn't bad on Chrome and it's great at releasing memory when I close tabs. In retrospect, I think the best answer to this question is simply for me to buy another 2gb of ram.
I have windows 8 and chrome version 28 but the steps which was said with the links below is not working. It still shows me incognito mode as enabled.
http://dev.chromium.org/administrators/policy-list-3#IncognitoModeAvailability
or
http://dev.chromium.org/administrators/policy-list-3#IncognitoEnabled
I did all the steps as mentioned and restarted the system too. Can you please help me with this?
Thanks
I am going to www.facebook.com, but the site that appears is totally different. This occurs on Chrome 6+, IE9, and FF 3+. What could be happening? Is this a security risk?
Facebook was working just fine, then all of a sudden this happened.
Update: The same problem occurs on my netbook.
Update 2: When I go to http://69.63.189.11/, it works fine. So... DNS problem? How do I fix?
Update 3: Checked the hosts file:
# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost
Looks like it hasn't been altered.
We have different development severs and a production server. Testing is done in the development servers. As a QA engineer, I'm switching between these servers quite often throughout the day.
In Chrome, sometimes I need to reload a page a few times to get it to pull from the newly switched server.
In Firefox, sometimes I need to quit the browser in order to get it to pull from the newly switched server.
(We have small tags that indicate which server you are pulling from, which is how I know in-browser.)
Why does that happen? I'd love to know how that happens (maybe what it's called?) and what the best way to deal with it is. (I know that Firefox has an extension for domain switching; is that the best solution?)
When picking receiver from my contact, the receiver's name will be displayed as well, like "Somebody" . But I don't want receiver to know how I named them. I just want them see receiver as [email protected]. Can I do this in gmail? Thanks.
From time to time, when I browse the internet , after entering a site's URL , I get a warning message that a pop up has been blocked , then a question mark and a set of numbers appends itself after the URL.
It doesn't matter what site I want to navigate to, it can be a site I have developed, a well know site like drupal.org for instance. Here's what happens:
enter url: example.com
warning: pop up blocked
url change to: example.com/?1347628900
After checking the pop up ( which of course turns out to be an unwanted ad ), i deducted that the request and the pop up were linked.
This has never happened to me before, I'm not sure how this got started, how can I get rid of this? Clearing the cache , cookies etc... doesn't solve the issue.
I'm using a Macbook Pro OS10.6.7 , Chrome 13.0.782.24 beta.
Thanks in advance for any tips!
After i install last versions of Opera till Opera 10.53 i always found on their startup page http://www.opera.com/portal/startup/ that opera is The fastest browser on Earth ... is it really although i think that chrome is the really fast one during my use in last 16 month ?
When I have multiple browser windows open, I don't know how to control which is chosen to open a new link - when that link is selected in a non-browser application.
For example, when I click a web link in OneNote or Word, the already-open browser that is chosen is whichever one of my Internet Explorer windows happens to have the least number of open browsing tabs.
I would like to change that behavior. I'd like that each newly opened page, as selected from a non-browser app, always goes to the last internet explorer window I had active.
Can this be done?
I am using Linux mint OS since an Year , I use to consistently download updates and install , I use chrome as a default browser , when ever I open youtube and watch some video , I listen to some repetition in sound ( say repeated lyrics of song ) while it is playing , In firefox it is working fine .
What is the problem am I missing any plugin , AFAIK Chrome doesn't need a flash player plug in , It has a built in flash player . IS that the problem ?
And also previously I was not facing this , recently I started using Cinimon UI centOS after this all these kind of problems started
MY hard ware is 64 bit intel core i3 and also I have installed linux mint 64 bit
Please let me know what is the problem and how to fix this .
Thanks in advance for responding to this post
