• Usage scenario for svn branches

  I have a product that I distribute to my clients. Each client needs some UI customization. I want each client to be able to get updated with new version easily. Can I create a project in svn that serves as a "base project", and then create branches for each client? With that said, will I then be able to commit changes in a branch to the branch, with the option of pushing that change to the core? Can I also perform and "update" command in a branch that will only update changes to the core?

• DataSet.GetChanges - Save the updated record in a different table than the source one

  I'm doing operation on a dataset containing data from a sql table named Test_1 and then get the updated records using the DataSet.GetChanges(DataRowState.Modified) function. Then i try to save the dataset containing the updated records on a different table than the source one (the table is names Test and has the same structure as Test_1) using the following statement: sqlDataAdapter.Update(changesDataSet,"Test"); I'm getting the following error : Update unable to find TableMapping['Test'] or DataTable 'Test' I'm new to ado.net and don't even know if it"s something possible. Any advice is welcome. Just to provide a bit of context. ETL jobs are importing data in temp table with same structure as the original but with _jobid suffix. Right after a rule engine is doing validation before updating the original table.

• Improving performance for WRITE operation on Oracle DB in Java

  I've a typical scenario & need to understand best possible way to handle this, so here it goes - I'm developing a solution that will retrieve data from a remote SOAP based web service & will then push this data to an Oracle database on network. Also, this will be a scheduled task that will execute every 15 minutes. I've event queues on remote service that contains the INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE operations that have been done since last retrieval, & once I retrieve the events for last 15 minutes, it again add events for next retrieval. Now, its just pushing data to Oracle so all my interactions are INSERT & UPDATE statements. There are around 60 tables on Oracle with some of them having 100+ columns. Moreover, for every 15 minutes cycle there would be around 60-70 Inserts, 100+ Updates & 10-20 Deletes. This will be an executable jar file that will terminate after operation & will again start on next 15 minutes cycle. So, I need to understand how should I handle WRITE operations (best practices) to improve performance for this application as whole ? Current Test Code (on every cycle) - Connects to remote service to get events. Creates a connection with DB (single connection object). Identifies the type of operation (INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE) & table on which it is done. After above, calls the respective method based on type of operation & table. Uses Preparedstatement with positional parameters, & retrieves each column value from remote service & assigns that to statement parameters. Commits the statement & returns to get event class to process next event. Above is repeated till all the retrieved events are processed after which program closes & then starts on next cycle & everything repeats again. Thanks for help !

• AJAX Panel not throwing exceptions

  Hi, i have just noticed something strange in some asp.net markup. I have a standard form with a couple of textboxes and a submit button. When clicked the code behind will attempt to perform some logic and then return. If the input values are not valid it used to throw an exception. The moment i wrapped the controls in an AJAX update panel and try to submit bad data, no exception is thrown and the panel returns like nothing was wrong. Does anyone know how to return this to the previous behavior whilst keeping the update panel?

• How to make a staging table in ms sql 2005?

  Hi I heard about doing staging tables and I am wondering how you actually do it. I want to do a sqlbulk copy into a staging table. Then then update the real table. I heard in mssql 2008 that you can use something called merge but I am using ms sql 2005 so I heard I have to use a update inner join? I am not sure how that would look like(I am guessing best way would be to write it in SP). Also the staging table needs to be able to handle concurrent updates. I was thinking of putting another column in the staged as GUID so that way I know which records belong to which group and when it is time to delete the records from the staged table I can just use that. So can anyone show me any examples or tutorials on how to do it? Also how fast is this way? Say if your updating 50,000 records how long would that take(a guesstimate is fine)

• Is it thread safe to read a form controls value (but not change it) without using Invoke/BeginInvoke from another thread

  I know you can read a gui control from a worker thread without using Invoke/BeginInvoke because my app is doing it now. The cross thread exception error is not being thrown and my System.Timers.Timer thread is able to read gui control values just fine (unlike this guy: can a worker thread read a control in the GUI?) Question 1: Given the cardinal rule of threads, should I be using Invoke/BeginInvoke to read form control values? And does this make it more thread-safe? The background to this question stems from a problem my app is having. It seems to randomly corrupt form controls another thread is referencing. (see question 2) Question 2: I have a second thread that needs to update form control values so I Invoke/BeginInvoke to update those values. Well this same thread needs a reference to those controls so it can update them. It holds a list of these controls (say DataGridViewRow objects). Sometimes (not always), the DataGridViewRow reference gets "corrupt". What I mean by corrupt, is the reference is still valid, but some of the DataGridViewRow properties are null (ex: row.Cells). Is this caused by question 1 or can you give me any tips on why this might be happening? • Making sure an 'int' is bound on sqlite

  I have a method called like this... -(void)dbUpdate:(int)forId { Which contains this sqlite to bind and update a database. sqlite3_bind_int(UPDATE_ACCOUNT, 3, forId); When I run the query, it doesn't give me an error, but it doesn't update the database either. If I change this line of code... sqlite3_bind_int(UPDATE_ACCOUNT, 3, forId); manually, to... sqlite3_bind_int(UPDATE_ACCOUNT, 3, 6); the query runs 100% fine, as expected. Changing the variable to an actual integer proves to me that the variable 'forId' isn't being passed or bound to the query properly. What am I doing wrong? How is the best way to pass an Integer (and make sure it is an Integer) into an sqlite bind? Cheers,

• Makefile won't copy .o to obj/ and target to bin/ folders

  I'm trying to write a Makefile which will copy its target and objects to bin/ and obj/ directories, respectively. Yet, when I try to run it I get the following error: nasm -f elf64 -g -F stabs main.asm -l spacelander.lst ld -o spacelander obj/main.o ld: cannot find obj/main.o: No such file or directory make: *** [spacelander] Error 1 Why is this happening? Update I noticed when I posted the error that it was due to white spacing errors. After taking care of those, I still get the new error I replaced with the old one I mentioned prior. What is this?? • Question about inserting/updating rows with MS SQL (ASP.NET MVC)

  I have a very big table with a lot of rows, every row has stats for every user for certain days. And obviously I don't have any stats for future. So to update the stats I use UPDATE Stats SET Visits=@val WHERE ... a lot of conditions ... AND Date=@Today But what if the row doesn't exist? I'd have to use INSERT INTO Stats (...) VALUES (Visits=@val, ..., Date=@Today) How can I check if the row exists or not? Is there any way different from doing the COUNT(*)? If I fill the table with empty cells, it'd take hundreds of thousands of rows taking megabytes and storing no data.

  I don't understand this with Scala hasmaps: How do I create a value or update one if it does not exist? I am tryng to count the number of characters in a list of Strings.   Hi, I am searching out for solution to use any of the IDE's such as Netbeans/ eclipse to run .jsp and .java files from a remote machine using linux as the OS. The .java and .jsp files are on the server . So, an IDE which would let me access the server and let me update the files directly on the server would be great. I use SSH terminal to connect to the server to update and get files. Now, if there was an easier way to just have an access using IDE to the linux remote machine. that would be great.   I have a checkboxes on my site that when unchecked, update their row in in the db as unchecked, and if checked,update their row in the db as checked. I am creating an ifstatement that will commence with its command if checked, and not if unchecked. I have echoed the variable and it is holding the proper value (checked or unchecked) but not sure if I am syntactically correct on displaying the state of the row in the db. • Styling related issue in IE8

  I am using a background image to display as a button. The button shows up well in all versions of firefox, chrome, opera etc. However, the image fails to render itself in IE8. Only the image is not being shown, some of the other class styling gets applied such as width, height etc. Even more confounding is that in another page(though a different class and style sheet), an image of similar proportions gets displayed in similar usage. The image format is JPG. I'm copy-pasting the valid style attributes for both cases as shown by firebug below. • which sql query is more efficient: select count(*) or select ... where key>value?

  I need to periodically update a local cache with new additions to some DB table. The table rows contain an auto-increment sequential number (SN) field. The cache keeps this number too, so basically I just need to fetch all rows with SN larger than the highest I already have. SELECT * FROM table where SN > <max_cached_SN> However, the majority of the attempts will bring no data (I just need to make sure that I have an absolutely up-to-date local copy). So I wander if this will be more efficient: count = SELECT count(*) from table; if (count > <cache_size>) // fetch new rows as above I suppose that selecting by an indexed numeric field is quite efficient, so I wander whether using count has benefit. On the other hand, this test/update will be done quite frequently and by many clients, so there is a motivation to optimize it.

• Subversion repo upgrade makes repository unusable.

  Hi, I recently upgraded my subversion server from 1.4.6 to 1.6.11. The repos all seem to work correctly after this. I then try to upgrade a repo by issuing the svnadmin update command, and it produces no errors and says the update is complete. However, I am unable to open the repository after this. I get the following error when trying to open the repo: Could not open the requested SVN filesystem. I am using Apache, not SVNServe. Any help would be appreciated!

  Is there anything built into the C++ Standard Library that allows me to work in a priority queue/heap like data structure (i.e., can always pop the highest value from the list, can define how the highest value is determined for custom classes, etc.) but allows me to update the keys in the heap? I'm dealing with fairly simple data, pairs to be exact, but I need to be able to update the value of a given key within the heap easily for my algorithm to function.   I have a dozen of build plans managed by a unique build agent. What I want to do, is to get the total number of triggered/scheduled builds (without counting them manually from the interface). So, question is, is there a kind of counter on the server? UPDATE #1: I'm using the v2.2.1. UPDATE #2: On the server interface (Administration - System - System Information), there are some statistics including how many builds the server performed. But, this number is reinitialized when the server goes down.

• Creating audit triggers in SQL Server

  I need to implement change tracking on two tables in my SQL Server 2005 database. I need to audit additions, deletions, updates (with detail on what was updated). I was planning on using a trigger to do this, but after poking around on Google I found that it was incredibly easy to do this incorrectly, and I wanted to avoid that on the get-go. Can anybody post an example of an update trigger that accomplishes this successfully and in an elegant manner? I am hoping to end up with an audit table with the following structure: ID LogDate TableName TransactionType (update/insert/delete) RecordID FieldName OldValue NewValue ... but I am open for suggestions.   I'm aware that sysadmin is documented as the server role necessary for creating logins (SQL/Windows-integrated); nevertheless, I'm tasked to find out if there's any other server role (built-in or otherwise) that can be used. To be specific, I'm looking to setup one or two logins with access to create logins, create [database] users, assign users to [database] roles. Potentially reset passwords, but most of the logins are Windows-integrated and it's not necessary. Cannot have access to data at all, nor can these logins have rights to update tables nor create/update roles. Seems my only options so far are to set these 2 logins with securityadmin server role and for the specific databases, configure with db_securityadmin and db_accessadmin... but this configuration doesn't allow for creating logins.

• How can I get my app ready for the iPhone 5

  Apple just announced the iPhone 5 with a 4 inch screen and a 16:9 aspect ratio. Of course, they only give developers two weeks to scramble to update their apps without being able to test. I'd like to update my app for the iPhone 5's new big screen, but there's nothing on Apple's developer site about the iPhone 5 or making your apps ready for a larger screen. It would be a pain to have to write my own logic for testing whether the device is an iPhone 5 and then displaying a custom storyboard file for it. Does anyone know how the new sizing works or if there are any hidden Xcode for this?

• Missing the Rails gem. Please `gem install -v=2.3.4 rails`

  I was trying to fix this error and I ended up with a new one. I have installed ruby 1.8.6, but using Built-in JRuby 1.4.0 for my app. Everything was working fine until I updated every gem(as specified by the answer I got from that link) and everything crashed: ever since I tried to start the app I received the following error message: Missing the Rails 2.3.4 gem. Please gem install -v=2.3.4 rails, update your RAILS_GEM_VERSION setting in config/environment.rb for the Rails version you do have installed, or comment out RAILS_GEM_VERSION to use the latest version installed. Then, I tried to uninstall the updates(to v2.3.8, most of them), so the last version is 2.3.4. In my config/environment.rb file I have this: RAILS_GEM_VERSION = '2.3.4' unless defined? RAILS_GEM_VERSION so I guess everything is as I left it before the update. The question is....why do I keep getting the error and I can't start the app?
