Is it possible to prevent a user from editing the title of a node on the node edit screen?
One of the thingsI really detest about Drupal is the rigidity of the title & body field in each node.
I cannot SSH into my instance - Operation timed out. What could be the reasons why, and what can I do to resolve it? Rebooting normally takes a long time to take effect, and might just makes things worst
UPDATE: It is not about permissions - i can log in normally just fine. I suspect it might be because of memory issues
why do programmers say that "live" is inefficient?
So what are the alternative
methods to replicating that function
that are more efficient?
How do we measure the impact of how much it slows things down?
I am trying to insert html into the HTML view.What i have done is to have tinymce advanced(a wordpress plugin) button that throws a popup and in it is all the necessary things to insert the html.The tinymce buttons are however only visible on the visual view.
Question 1:
Is it a plugin or hack that can allow one to parse html inside the visual view
Question 2:
Is it possible to insert html code to the html view from a popup initiated from the visual view
Im using jquery for various things on my site, but one thing im not sure how to do, is have it show an element, then wait X seconds, and hide the element.
$('#form').ajaxForm(function() {
$('#cartcontents').fadeOut("fast").load('cart.php').fadeIn("fast");
});
That's the JavaScript that I'm using now. How could I have it (when the form submits) display the div #notice for 5 seconds, then fadeOut?
I'm going to be switching back and forth between Ruby on Rails projects and some as-of-yet undecided PHP MVC framework projects.
Which of the PHP MVC frameworks out there (CakePHP, CodeIgniter?, others?) is most similar to Ruby on Rails in that the most conventions, locations, workflows, etc are preserved?
I'm looking for the similarity in the way things are done such as directory structures, conventions, etc, not a pros vs cons in speed, extra features, etc.
Why is it that if you open up an EXE in a hex editor, you will see all sorts of things. If computers only understand binary then shouldn't there only be 2 possible symbols seen in the file? Thanks
Is it time to start new projects in Rails 3? I'm nervous about using beta versions but at the same time I really like what they are doing and don't want to deal with legacy 2.3.5 issues with these apps.
Is it better to wait these things out, or buckle-up, deal with early adopter issues and get a head start on the future. Thanks for any light you can shed.
I am trying to fumble through python, and learn the best way to do things. I have a string where I am doing a compare with another string to see if there is a match:
if paid[j].find(d)>=0:
#BLAH BLAH
If 'd' were an array, what is the most efficient way to see if the string contained in paid[j] has a match to any value in 'd'?
I've turned on somehow in eclipse hidden characters. It's not he the "whitspace" characters in the general editor preferences. If I turn them on, then it adds ANOTHER layer of hidden chars over the existing one.
They have things like
\r\n
Anyone know what these are.. how to remove?
I have a url /embed?t=X and I want to redirect it to /page/embed/X where X is any number of alpha numeric characters.
I know must redirect rules go the other way but for the purpose of the applciation I need to reverse it.
Any ideas?
I have tried things like:
RedirectRule ^embed\?t\=([a-zA-Z0-9]+)$ /page/embed/$1
but with no luck.
Mailto links are not working at all in Chrome (8.0.552.224).
These links are working in IE 7&8, Safari, and Firefox.
In Chrome, we are clicking on mailto links (we have tested this about 25 times now), and things just go into the ether.
In all other browsers, we click on the mailto links, they open up email clients (gmail, outlook, and others), and we can send the email.
But in Chrome, we click the mailto links and nothing happens...
I have a PHP application that sends email using the pear Mail function. Unfortunately all my emails end up in the junk folder.
Can i get a checklist for thingsi should do to make sure my emails are recieved correctly.
Thank you
Web pages are, by nature, state-less objects. When you click from page to page in an ASP.net application, each request for a page is treated as a brand-new request. We use things like cookies, session-variables, and query strings to maintain state from page to page.
When you log in to an ASP.net web application using Windows Authentication, how does IIS persist your identity between pages?
On my previous job, providing all methods with javadoc was mandatory, which resulted in things like this:
/**
* Sets the Frobber.
*
* @param frobber The frobber
*/
public setFrobber(Frobber frobber) { ... }
As you can see, the documentation adds little to the code, but takes up space and work.
Should documenting all methods be mandatory or optional? Is there a rule for which methods to document? What are pros and cons of requiring every method to be documented?
I'm in a documentclass{article} in Latex. How would I put the name of an advisor on the first page? I've seen examples in latex for things like \principaladvisor{} but that seems to be done with the thesis class. I'm guessing with the article class I'd list the advisor as a co-author or something. How do I do that?
Let's say I have this list of asterisks, and I say it to print this way:
list = ['* *', '*', '* * *', '* * * * *', '* * * * * *', '* * * *']
for i in list:
print i
So here, the output is:
* *
*
* * *
* * * * *
* * * * * *
* * * *
But I want the output to be vertical, like this:
* * * * * *
* * * * *
* * * *
* * *
* *
*
Any tips on doing this? I've tried to conceptualize how to use things like list comprehension or for-loops for this, but haven't got it quite right.
The Core Data Programming Guide talks a lot about what not to overwrite. So the question is: What is good to overwrite?
Like I see it, I can't overwrite -init or -initWithEntity:insertIntoManagedObjectContext:
So where else would be a good overwrite point to set up some basic stuff? Or is it generally not needed to do custom initialization? Does the whole thing rely only on accessing properties which then start to do fancy things? So no custom initializations?
What is the best way to build a mySQL & PHP search?
I am currently using things like
%term%
I want it to be able to find the result even if they spell it slightly wrong, for example:
Field value = "One: Stop Shop:
They search:
One Shop Stop
OR
One Stop Shop
Etc.. I want a really smart search so they find the information even if they don't search the exact thing.
What is the best way to build a smart search like this?
Hi SO.
I have an applet that connects to a server, it receives some commands and based on that it haves to draw (or move) different things.
Which patterns should I use? I assume that the network connection and applet should run in two different threads?
Thanks,
Kristoffer

I'm preparing a short talk for a conference in august and I'm looking for open source projects that are using agile methods internally or have tried them in the past.
My goal is to talk about the things that work well and what won't work and promote the agile methods a little bit, because I think certain agile techniques are a good fit, but don't seem to be that common in real development.
So does anyone know projects that have tried agile methods and techniques before? I'd like to contact them for a few questions.
An odd question:
Just wondering if it is possible by some loophole to define a method name that ends in a colon. The purpose being things like this:
mymethod: arg1,arg2,arg3
The idea behind the question is -
Just say No! to C# Regions
It is said that "the reason to use #region tags because all the things they are hiding is just really bad code."
How do you use regions effectively?
