• Trouble with Canvas rendering in Safari/Opera

  Been banging my head against this one for a while, and figured I'd turn to the experts for some advice. I've made a jQuery snippet that grabs the values from a table and plots them in a line graph on a canvas element (also generated by the JS). All's well in Firefox and Chrome, but Safari and Opera aren't displaying the plotted points. I've reviewed in Firebug, Web Inspector debugger, JSLint, and checked the markup with the w3 validator, but still can't find anything glaringly obvious. Any chance one of you guys could help me out? • xcodeproj merge fails when adding new group

  I'm currently using Xcode with Git, and I'm experiencing some troubles during the merge process of my xcodeproj. Developer1 create a new group in Xcode file arborescence the commit and push. Developer2 on an other computer do the same with an other group name, commit and pull(with merge). The xcodeproj of Developer 2 become unreadable with Xcode. But when I create a new file or just drag and drop files from finder to repository, the merge succeed. Did someone has experienced that kind of trouble?   I am using mysqldump to backup mysql database. Now I just need to use the current date and time as file name for the generated sql file. This maps perfectly on array of controller method parameters as described in Model Binding To A List article. I want to add label for checkboxes to title them, but I have to guess their ids in hmtl layout. Options[" + i + "].Selected turns into Options_0__Selected How can I avoid hardcoding Id generation in-built asp.net mvc rules? Thank you advance.

I have my gemspec and gem set up to generate a suitable executable that points to the my_sinatra_app.rb (which is executable) but the sinatra server never runs. • disabling transactional fixtures in Rspec has no effect

  Due to a legacy database I'm using, I'm stuck with MySQL using MyISAM, which means my tables don't support transactions. This is causing the tests to fail, since table data generated (I'm using factory_girl for fixtures) by the tests are not reverted for each scenario. I discovered that Rspec exposes the config.use_transactional_fixtures config setting in spec_helper.rb. which is set to true by default. When I set it to false, I don't see any effect on my tests; they still fail due to duplicate records. Isn't that setting supposed to automatically unroll any changes made to the DB? Or am I supposed to do that manually?

• Generate Windows .lnk file with PHP

  Hello, I'm working on a project which involves an FTP server running ProFTPd and a PHP/MySQL backend that creates accounts for users. Upon the creation of accounts, users are sent e-mails with their account details and instructions for downloading FileZilla or CyberDuck, depending on their OS, detected via user-agent string. To make things easier for novices, I thought of having .lnk files generated for FileZilla with the account logins details as parameters, so they would just have to click on the .lnk files to open up the server. This is not crucial feature but more of a technical challenge. My questions are : is this even feasible ? are there any alternatives (eg. generating a .bat with a script pointing to the Filezilla executable ?) are there any issues, perhaps with relative / absolute paths pointing to the executable ? to go even further, what would be the simplest way of providing users with software with FTP access on a single account / single server (web interface is not an option).

• Capturing stdout within the same process in Python

  I've got a python script that calls a bunch of functions, each of which writes output to stdout. Sometimes when I run it, I'd like to send the output in an e-mail (along with a generated file). I'd like to know how I can capture the output in memory so I can use the email module to build the e-mail. My ideas so far were: use a memory-mapped file (but it seems like I have to reserve space on disk for this, and I don't know how long the output will be) bypass all this and pipe the output to sendmail (but this may be difficult if I also want to attach the file)

• SaaS Multi-tenancy Applications: How is data import/export/backup being implemented?

  How are applications providing import / export (or backups) of data in SaaS based multi-tenancy applications, particularly single database designs? Imports: Keeping things simple I think basic imports are useful, ie CSV to a spec (or a way of providing a mapping between CSV columns and fields in the database. Exports: In single database designs I have seen XML exports and HTML (basic sitse generated) exports of data? I would assume that XML is a better option? How does one cater for relational data? Would you reference various things within XML and provide documentation of the relationships or let users figurethis out? Are vendors providing an export/backup that can be imported back in/restored? Your comments appreciated.

• Error 3032 during EF 4.0 validation

  Hi guys. I have a table that has a column called "rowguid" with default value of newguid(). After I delete the generated property in the Entity Framework 4.0 designer, whenever I try to build or validate the model I receive the following error message. Error 3023: Problem in mapping fragments starting at line 1460:Column People.rowguid in table People must be mapped: It has no default value and is not nullable. It's an obvious error message but the problem is that the column HAS default value. Does anyone knows what the problem is? Thanks.

  I have created manifest file for my.dll. my.dll has a dependency on msvcr90.dll. In auto generated manifest file contains, ( i was using MS VC++ 2008 Express Edition) In side by side(winsxs) directory, there are three version on msvcr90.dll. my.dll started to using only the latest version of msvcr90.dll (9.0.30729.4148). Here in below topics i need the help: 1) my.dll is using only the latest version of msvcr90.dll . if i tried to make this dll as old. My application fails to start. How to make contidion that my.dll should refer only to the version which i mentioned in manifest file. 2) how can i tell my.dll should dependent on the msvcr90.dll which i providing in the local directory along with my.dll. I want to restrict my my.dll should not do search in the system directory for the msvcr90.dll.

• How do I get started writing a .Net-wrapper around C++ Omniorb-stubs

  Hello there, my job is to access a CPRBA-server-application from .NET 3.5. After evaluating projets like IIOP.Net (undefined state) and products like VisiBroker (expensive) I'd like to do it "by myself" and write a .Net-Wrapper around C++-Stubs generated my Omniidl (the Omniorb IDL to C++ generator). This means writing some kind of layer of managed code (CLI) around the unmanaged C++ code. My question is: Has anyone experience in this topic? I honestly don't know how to do it the best way. Right now I plan to create a managed class for every unmanaged class, each managed class itself has a member to an instance of the unmanaged class, which is not garbage-collected. Is this the right way to do it or am I on the wrong path? Thanks in advance!

  I just wanted to hear the opinion of Hibernate experts about DB schema generation best practices for Hibernate/JPA based projects. Especially: What strategy to use when the project has just started? Is it recommended to let Hibernate automatically generate the schema in this phase or is it better to create the database tables manually from earliest phases of the project? Pretending that throughout the project the schema was being generated using Hibernate, is it better to disable automatic schema generation and manually create the database schema just before the system is released into production? And after the system has been released into production, what is the best practice for maintaining the entity classes and the DB schema (e.g. adding/renaming/updating columns, renaming tables, etc.)?   Hy I'v a little problem with hibernate on netbeans. I've a table with an Auto increment id : CREATE TABLE "DVD" ( "DVD_ID" INT not null primary key GENERATED ALWAYS AS IDENTITY (START WITH 1, INCREMENT BY 1), "TITLE" VARCHAR(150), "COM" LONG VARCHAR, "COVER" VARCHAR(150) ); But this auto increment is not properly detected with Reverse Engineering. I get a map file with this : <id name="dvdId" type="int"> <column name="DVD_ID" /> <generator class="assigned" /> </id> i've looked on google and on this site ... foud some stuf but i'm still stuck.. i've tried to add insert="false" update="false" on the map file but i get back : Caused by: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Attribute "insert" must be declared for element type "id". • Making Wix uninstall an old plug-in when performing an upgrade

  I have a main product which is installed using Wix and has its own UpgradeCode In between releases of the main product we sometimes release plug-ins which add or patch some functionality. The plug-ins are packaged in their own Wix generated .msi files with their own UpgradeCodes and generally install addition files is a separate folder from the main product. I want to create a new version of the main product which includes the functionality which was previously available in a plug-in. A user upgrading to the new version will no longer need the plug-in so it would be nice to uninstall it as part of the upgrade. Is there a way of making Wix uninstall a product with UpgradeCode2 when it is upgrading product with UpgradeCode1?

• Why would LaTeX ignore the font size in the documentclass

  I have a LaTeX file. I'm experimenting with trying to reduce the font size (this is related to my other question here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2636647/latex-changing-the-font-size-for-a-document-but-in-the-preamble-not-the-docum ). The LaTeX file is generated from another programme. I have edited it to start with \documentclass[4pt,a4paper,english]{report} i.e. I am trying to make the text really small. However it doesn't work. I change that 4pt to anything and the font size is the same. When running pdflatex on it, I get this message printed out. LaTeX Warning: Unused global option(s): [4pt]. That might explain why the error message is What could be going on here? How do I make it use the font size in the documentclass definition?

• How can I log into gmail in a script/program using HTTPS?

  My teacher has given me as an assignment to log into gmail and then send one e-mail or read the list of unread e-mails, but I can't use IMAP/POP3/SMTP or anything that isn't HTTP or HTTPS. I've tried looking for libraries in Ruby/Java to do it but nothing really worked for me. I tried looking at the gmail source code page but I couldn't really understand what was going on. The page seems to call a post method on a link, but sniffing the packets what I saw was a GET apparently using a session generated using the info I send. So sending it "raw" didn't work either. I've no idea what to do now.

• .NET Web Service Proxy is adding special characters in XML

  My web service proxy seems to be adding special characters like "*" and "#" etc. within the xml nodes. My proxy created lists using arrays of objects. I am trying to create a generic list and then doing list.ToArray() to set the proxy MyProxyObject[] object. Is this the cause of the problem I am having? I plan on running fiddler on the request later but it is over SSL and I do not have access to the URL at the moment. • Display/Hide part of a list

  Hi I have an (unordered)list (generated by a repeater) of items. However, I'd like to show the first three items, and have the rest hidden by the main content div. When a button is pressed, I would like the list's div to expand, pushing the main content div down and showing the rest of the list. I was thinking of using slideDown(), but that closes the entire div ( and I would like to show the first 3 items of the list). What would be the best way to achieve an effect like this? Is there a plugin that can easily show X items of a list and the display the rest upon request? Thanks

  I have a class generated from a WSDL that has a bunch of public properties and a public event. I'm extending this class with my own and adding some properties to it. All of my own properties are declared virtual, but the base class properties are not virtual. I'm using Fluent NHibernate's ClassMap to map only the properties from my extended class. How do I prevent (Fluent)NHibernate from trying to persist all the base class's public members? • Which is more efficient/faster when calling a cached image?

  Hi, i made an image resizer in php. When an image is resized, it caches a new jpg file with the new dimensions. Next time you call the exact img.php?file=hello.jpg&size=400 it checks if the new jpg has already been created. If it has NOT been created yet, it creates the file and then prints the output (cool). If it ALREADY exists, no new file needs to be generated and instead, it just calls the already cached file. My question is regarding the second scenario. Which of these is faster? redirecting: header('Location: cache/hello_400.jpg');die(); grabbing data and printing the cached file: $data = file_get_contents('cache/hello_400.jpg'); header('Content-type: '.$mime); header('Content-Length: '.strlen($data)); echo $data; Any other ways to improve this?
