  • Why is Apache + Rails is spitting out two status headers for code 500?

    I have a rails app that is working fine except for one thing. When I request something that doesn't exist (i.e. /not_a_controller_or_file.txt) and rails throws a "No Route matches..." exception, the response is this (blank line intentional): HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Thu, 02 Oct 2008 10:28:02 GMT Content-Type: text/html Content-Length: 122 Vary: Accept-Encoding Keep-Alive: timeout=15, max=100 Connection: Keep-Alive Status: 500 Internal Server Error Content-Type: text/html <html><body><h1>500 Internal Server Error</h1></body></html> I have the ExceptionLogger plugin in /vendor, though that doesn't seem to be the problem. I haven't added any error handling beyond the custom 500.html in public (though the response doesn't contain that HTML) and I have no idea where this bit of html is coming from. So Something, somewhere is adding that HTTP/1.1 200 status code too early, or the Status: 500 too late. I suspect it's Apache because I get the appropriate HTTP/1.1 500 header (at the top) when I use Webrick. My production stack is as follows: Apache 2 Mongrel (5 instances) RubyOnRails 2.1.1 (happens in both 1.2 and 2.1.1) I forgot to mention, the error is caused by a "no route matches..." exception

    So, I previously wasn't really in the practice of writing unit tests - now I kind of am and I need to check if I'm on the right track. Say you have a class that deals with math computations. class Vector3 { public: // Yes, public. float x,y,z ; // ... ctors ... } ; Vector3 operator+( const Vector3& a, const Vector3 &b ) { return Vector3( a.x + b.y /* oops!! hence the need for unit testing.. */, a.y + b.y, a.z + b.z ) ; } There are 2 ways I can really think of to do a unit test on a Vector class: 1) Hand-solve some problems, then hard code the numbers into the unit test and pass only if equal to your hand and hard-coded result bool UnitTest_ClassVector3_operatorPlus() { Vector3 a( 2, 3, 4 ) ; Vector3 b( 5, 6, 7 ) ; Vector3 result = a + b ; // "expected" is computed outside of computer, and // hard coded here.   • Python: Removing particular character (u"\u2610") from string

    I have been wrestling with decoding and encoding in Python, and I can't quite figure out how to resolve my problem. I am looping over xml text files (sample) that are apparently coded in utf-8, using Beautiful Soup to parse each file, then looking to see if any sentence in the file contains one or more words from two different list of words. Because the xml files are from the eighteenth century, I need to retain the em dashes that are in the xml. The code below does this just fine, but it also retains a pesky box character that I wish to remove. I believe the box character is this character. (You can find an example of the character I wish to remove in line 3682 of the sample file above. On this webpage, the character looks like an 'or' pipe, but when I read the xml file in Komodo, it looks like a box. When I try to copy and paste the box into a search engine, it looks like an 'or' pipe. When I print to console, though, the character looks like an empty box.)   • Using MPI_Type_Vector and MPI_Gather, in C.

    Hi, I am trying to multiply square matrices in parallele with MPI. I use a MPI_Type_vector to send square submatrixes (arrays of float) to the processes, so they can calculate subproducts. Then, for the next iterations, these submatrices are send to neighbours processes as MPI_Type_contiguous (the whole submatrix is sent). This part is working as expected, and local results are corrects. Then, I use MPI_Gather with the contiguous types to send all local results back to the root process. The problem is, the final matrix is build (obviously, by this method) line by line instead of submatrix by submatrix. I wrote an ugly procedure rearranging the final matrix, but I would like to know if there is a direct way of performing the "inverse" operation of sending MPI_Type_vectors (i.e., sending an array of values and directly arranging it in a subarray form in the receiving array). An example, to try and clarify my long text : A[16] and B[16] are 4x4 matrices to be multiplied ; C[16] will contain the result ; 4 processes are used (Pi with i from 0 to 3) : Pi gets two 2x2 submatrices : subAi[4] and subBi[4] ; their product is stored locally in subCi[4]. For instance, P0 gets : subA0[4] containing A[0], A[1], A[4] and A[5] ; subB0[4] containing B[0], B[1], B[4] and B[5]. After everything is calculed, root process gathers all subCi[4]. Then C[16] contains : [ subC0[0], subC0[1], subC0[2], subC0[3], subC1[0], subC1[1], subC1[2], subC1[3], subC2[0], subC2[1], subC2[2], subC2[3], subC3[0], subC3[1], subC3[2], subC3[3]] and I would like it to be : [ subC0[0], subC0[1], subC1[0], subC1[1], subC0[2], subC0[3], subC1[2], subC1[3], subC2[0], subC2[1], subC3[0], subC3[1], subC2[2], subC2[3], subC3[2], subC3[3]] without further operation.     Hello, I have following code: <table> <tr> <td>Table 1</td> </tr> </table> <table> <tr> <td>Table 2</td> </tr> </table> Very unfortunately, a line break is inserted between these two tables. I have tried putting them both in a single span and setting the whitespace to nowrap, but at no avail. Please, could you tell me how I can simply put these elements in a single row, without setting the float attribute in CSS and without surrounding each table with a <td> {table} </td> and then putting this in a table row.   • HTML columns or rows for form layout?

    I'm building a bunch of forms that have labels and corresponding fields (input element or more complex elements). Labels go on the left, fields go on the right. Labels in a given form should all be a specific width so that the fields all line up vertically. There are two ways (maybe more?) of achieving this: Rows: Float each label and each field left. Put each label and field in a field-row div/container. Set label width to some specific number. With this approach labels on different forms will have different widths, because they'll depend on the width of the text in the longest label. Columns: Put all labels in one div/container that's floated left, put all fields in another floated left container with padding-left set. This way the labels and even the label container don't need to have their widths set, because the column layout and the padding-left will uniformly take care of vertically lining up all the fields. So approach #2 seems to be easier to implement (because the widths don't need to be set all the time), but I think it's also less object oriented, because a label and a field that goes with that label are not grouped together, as they are in approach #1. Also, if building forms dynamically, approach #2 doesn't work as well with functions like addRow(label, field), since it would have to know about the label and the field containers, instead of just creating/adding one field-row element. Which approach do you think is better? Is there another, better approach than these two?

  • NHibernate not dropping foreign key constraints.

    I'm new to NHibernate, so this is probably my mistake, but when I use: schema.Create(true, true); I get: SchemaExport [(null)]- There is already an object named 'XXX' in the database. System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: There is already an object named 'XXX' in the database. I grabbed the SQL code nHibernate was using, ran it directly from MSSMS, and recieved similar errors. Looking into it, the generated code is not properly dropping the foreign key constraints. The drop looks like this: if exists (select 1 from sysobjects where id = OBJECT_ID(N'dbo[FK22212EAFBFE4C58]') AND parent_obj = OBJECT_ID('YYY')) alter table dbo.YYY drop constraint FK22212EAFBFE4C58 Doing a "select OBJECT_ID(N'dbo[FK22212EAFBFE4C58]')" I get null. If I take out the "dbo" (i.e. "select OBJECT_ID(N'[FK22212EAFBFE4C58]')") then the ID is returned.     The scenario is I have two Divs one is where I select items (divResults) and it goes to the next div (divSelectedContacts). When I select it I place a tick mark next to it. What I want to do is when I select it again I want to remove the tick mark and also remove the element from divSelectedContacts.   • Why is joining two vectors simply not working?

    I have two vectors of MyObj structs. MyObj is defined as follows: struct MyObj { float x, y; unsigned int data[8]; unsigned int tmp[1]; MyObj(const MyObj &m) { x = m.x; y = m.y; tmp[0] = 0; for (int i = 0; i < 8; ++i) { data[i] = m.data[i]; } } }; I then have two vectors... vector<MyObj> v1; vector<MyObj> v2; // both get data eventually. v1.insert(v1.end(), v2.begin(), v2.end()); v2 has 3535004 elements in my experiment. v1 is similarly sized. I've also tried building a new vector and just using .push_back to build it from both vectors. Essentially, when I try to merge the two vectors I just get an error from visual studio saying "Debug error! R6010, abort() has been called". Very non-useful... So my question is: what could be causing this error, and how can I solve it? Thank you

    My iPhone app has the following problem: Freshly installed, when I read out my "Play Sound" preference with the following code: defaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; NSLog(@"Play Sounds? %d", [defaults boolForKey:@"play_sounds_preference"]); The setting always reads out as false, even though the default setting is set to true. Any ideas?   • SetMatrix() does not copy all values to HLSL

    Hi, I want to use the contents of a vector of D3DXMatrices to my shader. m_pLightMatrices->SetMatrixArray(&currentLightMatrices[0].m[0][0],0,numLights); As we know the internals of a vector this poses no problems (as it is just a dynamic array). Now when I access this matrix in hlsl to fill up a struct I get this strange behavior: struct LightTest { float3 LightPos; float LightRange; float4 LightDiffuse; float3 LightAtt; }; float4x4 currentLight = gLights[0]; LightTest lt; lt.LightPos = currentLight._m00_m01_m02; //{0,0,0} lt.LightDiffuse = currentLight[1].rgba; //{0,0,0,0} lt.LightRange = currentLight._m03; //this gives me a value lt.LightAtt = currentLight[2].xyz; //{0,0,0} While debugging I see that my matrix is nicely filled with the variables I want. When I try to hardcode check what is in the struct I get all zero's, except the LightRange. As you can see I tried different methods of accessing the float4x4 but without any other results. Why oh why is hlsl not copying all my variables ?

  • RegExpValidator never matches

    Hi, I've got a class that's meant to validate input fields to make sure the value is always a decimal. I've tested the regex here: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=validators_7.html, and it looks like it does the right thing, but in my app, I can't seem to get it to match to a number format.     Hi, I have the following xml object representing a ImageButton <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <ImageButton xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/genreCellItemId" android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_gravity="center" android:paddingLeft="5.0dip" android:paddingRight="5.0dip"> </ImageButton> I try to inflate it and add it to a TableRow with the following code : LayoutInflater inflater= this.getLayoutInflater(); TableLayout grid = (TableLayout)findViewById(R.id.bodyTableLayout); TableRow row = (TableRow)inflater.inflate(R.layout.genre_row, null); View myButton = (View)inflater.inflate(R.layout.genre_cell, null); row.addView(tempButton, new TableRow.LayoutParams()); grid.addView(row, new TableLayout.LayoutParams()); Ok so I noticed that it didn't look as expected, so I fire up the Hierarchy Viewere and noticed that the ImageButton's actually have an layout_width = FILL_PARENT instead of WRAP_CONTENT, also the layout_gravity is NONE and there is no padding to be seen... Do, am I inflating it wrongly ? Or is maybe the new TableRow.LayoutParams() part doins omething wrong ?

    I am trying to send an XML file to an external system. I am using the below code for doing so, which I got over the internet. But I observed that when i put an echo on the xml variable, it does not show me the XML as a string, but it is parsing the xml and showing me the values. Same is happening when I am sending this to external system. Which is failing. Can you please tell me a way, in which the XML is not parsed and I can send the entire XML text as a string to external system?
