  I have 4 divs in a fixed width layout: a, b, c, and d, and they are ordered in the html like this: <div id="a"> </div> <div id="b"> </div> <div id="c"> </div> <div id="d"> </div> Using CSS, I want them to be laid out with divs a, b, and d in a vertical column, and div c to the right of and top-aligned with div b, like this: aaa aaa aaa bbbccc bbbccc bbbccc ddd ddd ddd I need this layout to work even though the divs contain unknown content, and so could be of varying length: aaa aaa aaa bbbccc bbbccc dddccc dddccc ddd or: aaa aaa aaa bbbccc bbb bbb ddd ddd ddd or even (if possible): aaa aaa bbbccc dddccc eeeccc eee I can't simply float div c to the right and then move it up, because, without using Javascript, I don't know the height of div b, and so don't know how much to move it up by. Is this possible in HTML and CSS, without reordering the divs?

• Python: Removing particular character (u"\u2610") from string

  I have been wrestling with decoding and encoding in Python, and I can't quite figure out how to resolve my problem. I am looping over xml text files (sample) that are apparently coded in utf-8, using Beautiful Soup to parse each file, then looking to see if any sentence in the file contains one or more words from two different list of words. Because the xml files are from the eighteenth century, I need to retain the em dashes that are in the xml. The code below does this just fine, but it also retains a pesky box character that I wish to remove. I believe the box character is this character. (You can find an example of the character I wish to remove in line 3682 of the sample file above. On this webpage, the character looks like an 'or' pipe, but when I read the xml file in Komodo, it looks like a box. When I try to copy and paste the box into a search engine, it looks like an 'or' pipe. When I print to console, though, the character looks like an empty box.) • Floats not clearing properly in IE - how to fix?

  I've been banging my head for about an hour now, and I've distilled the problem down to the simplest example I can think of that shows the problem. The CSS/HTML <style> #T div { float: left; } ._b { clear: left; } </style> <div id='T'> <div class='_a'>*</div> <div class='_b'>*</div> <div class='_c'>*</div> <div class='_d'>*</div> </div> IE7 *** * FF, Chrome, Opera * *** The result in FF/Chrome/Opera is what I'd expect. There's no adding more mark-up to fix this and I'm absolutely befuddled on to how to make it work properly in IE. It gets really ugly when you have say, 3 all on a row to themselves and then 3 meant to be on the same line -- the extra 2 end up on the first row. I really hope someone knows the work-around for this.

• HTML columns or rows for form layout?

  I'm building a bunch of forms that have labels and corresponding fields (input element or more complex elements). Labels go on the left, fields go on the right. Labels in a given form should all be a specific width so that the fields all line up vertically. There are two ways (maybe more?) of achieving this: Rows: Float each label and each field left. Put each label and field in a field-row div/container. Set label width to some specific number. With this approach labels on different forms will have different widths, because they'll depend on the width of the text in the longest label. Columns: Put all labels in one div/container that's floated left, put all fields in another floated left container with padding-left set. This way the labels and even the label container don't need to have their widths set, because the column layout and the padding-left will uniformly take care of vertically lining up all the fields. So approach #2 seems to be easier to implement (because the widths don't need to be set all the time), but I think it's also less object oriented, because a label and a field that goes with that label are not grouped together, as they are in approach #1. Also, if building forms dynamically, approach #2 doesn't work as well with functions like addRow(label, field), since it would have to know about the label and the field containers, instead of just creating/adding one field-row element. Which approach do you think is better? Is there another, better approach than these two?

• iPhone settings not honoured

  My iPhone app has the following problem: Freshly installed, when I read out my "Play Sound" preference with the following code: defaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; NSLog(@"Play Sounds? %d", [defaults boolForKey:@"play_sounds_preference"]); The setting always reads out as false, even though the default setting is set to true. Any ideas? Do, am I inflating it wrongly ? Or is maybe the new TableRow.LayoutParams() part doins omething wrong ?

• Passing XML data and user from coldfusion page to .NET page

  I'd appreciate some input on this situation, I can't figure out the best way to do this. I have some data that's being prepared for me in a ColdFusion app and in an IFrame within the CF app we want to display some graphs (not strictly an image, it's an entire page) being generated on the .NET side of things. I'd like to pass XML data from the CF side to .NET as well as the user. On the .NET side I'm putting the data in a session so the user can sift through it without the need to have it re-queried and re-passed from CF. What I've tried: Generating XML with CF, putting it in a hidden form field, auto-submitting (with JS) a the form to the .NET side. The issue I'm having with this approach is the encoding being done on the form post. The data has entries like <entry data="hello &amp; goodbye">. It's an issue because it's being URL encdeded, Posted, and when I get it on the .NET side I get <entry data="hello & goodbye"> which isn't properly formed XML. What I'd like to avoid: An intermediary DB approach (dropping the data in a DB on CF, picking it up with .NET) I'd like to only display what is passed to the page. I have security concerns with the data, it's very sensitive. Passing the data to a webservice, returning a GUID, forwarding the user with a URL Parameter to access the passed in data. I think that'd be risky if someone happened on a link to that data. I can't take that risk. I was thinking of passing the data with JSON, but I'm very unfamiliar with it. Thoughts? • NHibernate not dropping foreign key constraints.

  I'm new to NHibernate, so this is probably my mistake, but when I use: schema.Create(true, true); I get: SchemaExport [(null)]- There is already an object named 'XXX' in the database. System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: There is already an object named 'XXX' in the database. I grabbed the SQL code nHibernate was using, ran it directly from MSSMS, and recieved similar errors. Looking into it, the generated code is not properly dropping the foreign key constraints. The drop looks like this: if exists (select 1 from sysobjects where id = OBJECT_ID(N'dbo[FK22212EAFBFE4C58]') AND parent_obj = OBJECT_ID('YYY')) alter table dbo.YYY drop constraint FK22212EAFBFE4C58 Doing a "select OBJECT_ID(N'dbo[FK22212EAFBFE4C58]')" I get null. If I take out the "dbo" (i.e. "select OBJECT_ID(N'[FK22212EAFBFE4C58]')") then the ID is returned. • HTML prevent line break (between two table tags)

  Hello, I have following code: <table> <tr> <td>Table 1</td> </tr> </table> <table> <tr> <td>Table 2</td> </tr> </table> Very unfortunately, a line break is inserted between these two tables. I have tried putting them both in a single span and setting the whitespace to nowrap, but at no avail. Please, could you tell me how I can simply put these elements in a single row, without setting the float attribute in CSS and without surrounding each table with a <td> {table} </td> and then putting this in a table row.   The scenario is I have two Divs one is where I select items (divResults) and it goes to the next div (divSelectedContacts). When I select it I place a tick mark next to it. What I want to do is when I select it again I want to remove the tick mark and also remove the element from divSelectedContacts.   So, I previously wasn't really in the practice of writing unit tests - now I kind of am and I need to check if I'm on the right track. • uint64_t has incorrectly reached 18,446,744,071,590,568,320

  Whenever I input an age of 65 or less, I get a number somewhere less than 2,100,000. However, when I input an age of 68 or higher, the result is instantly put at 18,446,744,071,590,568,320, which is the maximum value for uint64_t. I have no idea why there is this jump in results. • Why is joining two vectors simply not working?

  I have two vectors of MyObj structs. MyObj is defined as follows: struct MyObj { float x, y; unsigned int data[8]; unsigned int tmp[1]; MyObj(const MyObj &m) { x = m.x; y = m.y; tmp[0] = 0; for (int i = 0; i < 8; ++i) { data[i] = m.data[i]; } } }; I then have two vectors... vector<MyObj> v1; vector<MyObj> v2; // both get data eventually. v1.insert(v1.end(), v2.begin(), v2.end()); v2 has 3535004 elements in my experiment. v1 is similarly sized. I've also tried building a new vector and just using .push_back to build it from both vectors. Essentially, when I try to merge the two vectors I just get an error from visual studio saying "Debug error! R6010, abort() has been called". Very non-useful... So my question is: what could be causing this error, and how can I solve it? Thank you

  I am trying to send an XML file to an external system. I am using the below code for doing so, which I got over the internet. But I observed that when i put an echo on the xml variable, it does not show me the XML as a string, but it is parsing the xml and showing me the values. Same is happening when I am sending this to external system. Which is failing. Can you please tell me a way, in which the XML is not parsed and I can send the entire XML text as a string to external system? However this is NOT secure. So I want to make it secure... https. How easy is it to integrate https? How much will the code change? How much do I have to handle? What is transparent to me. Do I have to check if a cookie already exists and if not write the methods for authentication or is there librarys already provided that will do it for me?

• Using MPI_Type_Vector and MPI_Gather, in C.

  Hi, I am trying to multiply square matrices in parallele with MPI. I use a MPI_Type_vector to send square submatrixes (arrays of float) to the processes, so they can calculate subproducts. Then, for the next iterations, these submatrices are send to neighbours processes as MPI_Type_contiguous (the whole submatrix is sent). This part is working as expected, and local results are corrects. Then, I use MPI_Gather with the contiguous types to send all local results back to the root process. The problem is, the final matrix is build (obviously, by this method) line by line instead of submatrix by submatrix. I wrote an ugly procedure rearranging the final matrix, but I would like to know if there is a direct way of performing the "inverse" operation of sending MPI_Type_vectors (i.e., sending an array of values and directly arranging it in a subarray form in the receiving array). An example, to try and clarify my long text : A[16] and B[16] are 4x4 matrices to be multiplied ; C[16] will contain the result ; 4 processes are used (Pi with i from 0 to 3) : Pi gets two 2x2 submatrices : subAi[4] and subBi[4] ; their product is stored locally in subCi[4]. For instance, P0 gets : subA0[4] containing A[0], A[1], A[4] and A[5] ; subB0[4] containing B[0], B[1], B[4] and B[5]. After everything is calculed, root process gathers all subCi[4]. Then C[16] contains : [ subC0[0], subC0[1], subC0[2], subC0[3], subC1[0], subC1[1], subC1[2], subC1[3], subC2[0], subC2[1], subC2[2], subC2[3], subC3[0], subC3[1], subC3[2], subC3[3]] and I would like it to be : [ subC0[0], subC0[1], subC1[0], subC1[1], subC0[2], subC0[3], subC1[2], subC1[3], subC2[0], subC2[1], subC3[0], subC3[1], subC2[2], subC2[3], subC3[2], subC3[3]] without further operation. • Adobe popping out of the browser

  Hi, Im building a web application that displays a xfdf document. When we are testing in adobe 5 and we can't stop adobe opening outside the webpage. The user clicks the report and it should open in the browser but instead it opens in adobe it appears to work in everything but adobe 5. We have previously done this with out any problems. Any ideas? • How to calculate Content-Length for a file download within Kohana PHP?

  I'm trying to send a file from within a Kohana model to the browser, but as soon as I add a Content-Length header, the file doesn't start downloading right away. Now the problem seems to be that Kohana is already outputting buffers. An ob_clean at the begin of the script doesn't help this though. Also adding ob_get_length() to the Content-Length isn't helping since this just returns 0. The getFileSize() function returns the right number: if I run the script outside of Kohana, it works. I read that exit() still calls all destructors and it might be that something is outputted by Kohana afterwards, but I can't find out what exactly. Hope someone can help me out here... • RegExpValidator never matches

  Hi, I've got a class that's meant to validate input fields to make sure the value is always a decimal. I've tested the regex here: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=validators_7.html, and it looks like it does the right thing, but in my app, I can't seem to get it to match to a number format.
