• MVC Html.textbox/dropdown/whatever won't refresh on postback

  OK, let's start with the Html.Textbox. It is supposed to contain text read from a file. The file read is based on what the user picks from a dropdown list. The first time it is fine. The user picks a value from the dropdown list. The controller uses that value to read some text from a file, and returns that text to the view via the view model. Everything is fine. THen the user picks another value from the dropdown list. The controller reads a new value from a file and returns it via the view model. Debugging to the LINE BEFORE THE HTML.TEXTBOX is set in the view shows that the model contains the correct value. However, the textbox itself still shows the PREVIOUS value when the page displays! If I switch from Html.Textbox to a plain input, type="text" html control, everything works fine. That's not so hard, but the same thing happens with my dropdown list -- I can't set the selected value in code. It always reverts to whatever was chosen last. Rendering a "select" tag with a dynamically-generated option list is a pain. I would love to be able to use Html.Dropdown. What am I missing here?? This is such a simple thing in webforms!

  Hello, Problem: I want to list n number of games from each genre (order not important) The following MySQL query resides inside a ColdFusion function. It is meant to list all games under a platform (for example, list all PS3 games; list all Xbox 360 games; etc...). The variable for PlatformID is passed through the URL. I have 9 genres, and I would like to list 10 games from each genre. SELECT games.GameID AS GameID, games.GameReleaseDate AS rDate, titles.TitleName AS tName, titles.TitleShortDescription AS sDesc, genres.GenreName AS gName, platforms.PlatformID, platforms.PlatformName AS pName, platforms.PlatformAbbreviation AS pAbbr FROM (((games join titles on((games.TitleID = titles.TitleID))) join genres on((genres.GenreID = games.GenreID))) join platforms on((platforms.PlatformID = games.PlatformID))) WHERE (games.PlatformID = '#ARGUMENTS.PlatformID#') ORDER BY GenreName ASC, GameReleaseDate DESC Once the query results come back I group them in ColdFusion as follows: <cfoutput query="ListGames" group="gName"> (first loop which lists genres) #ListGames.gName# <cfoutput> (nested loop which lists games) #ListGames.tName# </cfoutput> </cfoutput> The problem is that I only want 10 games from each genre to be listed. If I place a "limit" of 50 in the SQL, I will get ~ 50 games of the same genre (depending on how much games of that genre there are). The second issue is I don't want the overload of querying the database for all games when each person will only look at a few. What is the correct way to do this? Many thanks!

  Hi there, I have just created a mailchimp account and I have one question. I'm quite new to mailchimp. In my customer dashboard (of magento) i want to create a list subscribe form. Now I have a list of checkboxes that i run using a for next loop. I want to put these checkboxes in my mailchimp form and according to what the customer choices, the mailchimp list is updated. Ex. I have various categories (Apparel, furniture etc) these are set up from Magento backend and they have to be dynamic. These checkboxes are set up in a table. In Mailchimp I want to create user lists or one list with a group containing sub categories, that are created by my Magento code. I was wondering if this is possible. Otherwise, this method obtains the specified element." Let's say we have following example: ICollection<int> col = new List<int>() { /* fill with items */ }; IList<int> list = new List<int>() { /* fill with items */ }; col.ElementAt(10000000); list.ElementAt(10000000); Is there any difference in execution? or does ElementAt recognize that col also implements IList< although it's only declared as ICollection<?   It seems that the reporting idiom is that a report consist of a single list of items, with some additional data (parameters). Are there ways to include several unrelated lists in a report, or would this go against the idiom to such an extent that a different tool should rather be used to generate the output? Suppose, for instance, you have a list of Persons that lives in a Building, with names, phone numbers and so on. This list would be the main datasource. Additionally, on the same report you want to show various other information about that Building, such as address, number of floors and so on. The number of items in this information might vary between Buildings, so that you cannot simply put it into static parameters, but would need a map or a list. This is of course a contrieved example, but should serve to illustrate the problem. In short: can you use several unrelated lists in a report?

I am using icinga-web to monitor my hosts. For the moment, I have just my localhost, and all is perfect.   The graphical Interface in my system is garbled with some text. At the beginning I thought it was due to java and tomcat that I installed. But after removing java and tomcat, it is still the same.   ok I have couple of .NET classes that I want to use in VBA. So I must register them through COM and all that. I think I have the COM registration figured out (finally) but now I need help with the syntax of how to create the objects. Here is some pseudo code showing what I am trying to do. EDIT: Changed Attached Objects to return an ArrayList instead of a List The .NET classes look like this... public class ResourceManagment { public ResourceManagment() { // Default Constructor } public static List<RandomObject> AttachedObjects() { ArrayList list = new ArrayList(); return list; } } public class RandomObject { // public RandomObject(int someParam) { } } OK, so this is what I would like to do in VBA (demonstrated in C#) but I don't know how... public class VBAClass { public void main() { ArrayList myList = ResourceManagment.AttachedObjects(); foreach(RandomObject x in myList) { // Do something with RandomObject x like list them in a Combobox } } } One thing to note is that RandomObject does not have a public default constructor. So I can not create an instance of it like Dim x As New RandomObject. MSDN says that you can not instantiate an object that doesn't have a default constructor through COM but you can still use the object type if it is returned by another method... Types must have a public default constructor to be instantiated through COM. Managed, public types are visible to COM. However, without a public default constructor (a constructor without arguments), COM clients cannot create an instance of the type. COM clients can still use the type if the type is instantiated in another way and the instance is returned to the COM client. You may include overloaded constructors that accept varying arguments for these types. However, constructors that accept arguments may only be called from managed (.NET) code.   Hey guys, I've got a function that checks a list of objects to see if they've been clicked and fires the OnClick events accordingly. I believe the function is working correctly, however I'm having an issue: When I hook onto one of the OnClick events and remove and insert the element into a different position in the list (typical functionality for this program), I get the "Collection was modified..." error. I believe I understand what is going on: The function cycles through each object firing OnClick events where necessary An event is fired and the object changes places in the list per the hooked function An exception is thrown for modifying the collection while iterating through it My question is, how to do I allow the function to iterate through all the objects, fire the necessary events at the proper time and still give the user the option of manipulating the object's position in the list?   I have a class Graph with two lists types namely nodes and edges I have a function List<int> GetNodesInRange(Graph graph, int Range) when I get these parameters I need an algorithm that will go through the graph and return the list of nodes only as deep (the level) as the range. The algorithm should be able to accommodate large number of nodes and large ranges. Atop this, should I use a similar function List<int> GetNodesInRange(Graph graph, int Range, int selected) I want to be able to search outwards from it, to the number of nodes outwards (range) specified. So in the first function, I expect it to return the nodes placed in the blue box. The other function, if I pass the nodes as in the graph with a range of 1 and it starts at node 5, I want it to return the list of nodes that satisfy this criteria (placed in the orange box)

• Design question for WinForms (C#) app, using Entity Framework

  I am planning on writing a small home budget application for myself, as a learning excercise. I have built my database (SQL Server), and written a small console application to interact with it, and test out scenarios on my database. Once I am happy, my next step would be to start building the application - but I am already wondering what the best/standard design would be. I am palnning on using Entity Framework for handling my database entities... then linq to sql/objects for getting the data, all running under a WinForms (for now) application. My plan (I've never used EF... and most of my development background is Web apps) is to have my database... with Entity Framework in it's own project.. which has the connection to the database. This project would expose methods such as 'GetAccount()', 'GetAccount(int accountId)' etc. I'd then have a service project that references my EF project. And on top of that, my GUI project, which makes the calls to my service project. But I am stuck. Lets say I have a screen that displays a list of Account types (Debit, Credit, Loan...). Once I have selected one, the next drop down shows a list of accounts I have that suite that account type. So, my OnChange event on my DropDown on the account type control will make a call to the serviceLayer project, 'GetAccountTypes()', and I would expect back a List< of Account Types. However, the AccountType object ... what is that? That can't be the AccountType object from my EF project, as my GUI project doesn't have reference to it. Would I have to have some sort of Shared Library, shared between my GUI and my Service project, with a custom built AccountType object? The GUI can then expect back a list of these. So my service layer would have a method: public List<AccountType> GetAccountTypes() That would then make a call to a custom method in my EF project, which would probably be the same as the above method, except, it returns an list of EF.Data.AccountType (The Entity Framework generated Account Type object). The method would then have the linq code to get the data as I want it. Then my service layer will get that object, and transform it unto my custom AccountType object, and return it to the GUI. Does that sound at all like a good plan?

So far I have a CSS class for normal and a CSS class for when you hover each item in the list. I want to have a new class for when each list item is selected. So for example in services, the user clicks on "family planning" and when they get to the family planning page....the family planning list item has a grey background. • ExpandableListView child items don't get focus when touched...

  Ok, so I wrote an ExpandableListView and subclassed BaseExpandableListAdapter... Everything works fine except I cannot get the child views to take focus when clicked. If I use the trackball everything works fine. But if I try to click on a child I get no feedback whatsoever. I have tried setting android:focusable, android:focusableInTouchMode, and android:clickable (and I have also tried setting this via code) but I can't get anything to work. Any ideas?   i hope i'm just doing something wrong here. Ideally i'm trying to open the connection, open a transaction execute a ton of prebuilt sqlstatements (with parameters) against this connection then close the connection. ideally all in the same batch. It's easy enough to wrap this all in a for loop, however i'd like to use the forEach function of the list generic to set the connection as it'll probably be faster than my implementation of calling List.Item(i) in the loop but i get some strange errors. • Optimizing a lot of Scanner.findWithinHorizon(pattern, 0) calls

  I'm building a process which extracts data from 6 csv-style files and two poorly laid out .txt reports and builds output CSVs, and I'm fully aware that there's going to be some overhead searching through all that whitespace thousands of times, but I never anticipated converting about about 50,000 records would take 12 hours. My Scanner id is scanning a java.util.String, figured buffering it to memory would reduce I/O since the search here is being performed thousands of times on a relatively small file. The performance increase compared to scanning a BufferedReader(FileReader(File)) was probably less than 1%, the process still looks to be taking a LONG time. I've also traced execution and the slowness of my overall conversion process is definitely between the first and last like of the lookup method. In fact, so much so that I ran a shortcut process to count the number of occurrences of various identifiers in the .csv-style files (I use 2 lookup methods, this is just one of them) and the process completed indexing approx 4 different identifiers for 50,000 records in less than a minute. Compared to 12 hours, that's instant. Some notes (updated): I don't necessarily need the pattern-matching behaviour, I only get the first field of a line of text so I need to match line breaks or use Scanner.nextLine(). All ID numbers I need start at position 0 of a line and run through til the first block of whitespace, after which is the name of the corresponding object. I would ideally want to return a String, not an int locating the line number or start position of the result, but if it's faster then it will still work just fine. If an int is being returned, however, then I would now have to seek to that line again just to get the ID; storing the ID of every line that is searched sounds like a way around that. Anything to help me out, even if it saves 1ms per search, will help, so all input is appreciated. Thankyou! Usage scenario 1: I have a list of objects in file A, who in the old-style system have an id number which is not in file A. It is, however, POSSIBLY in another csv-style file (file B) or possibly still in a .txt report (file C) which each also contain a bunch of other information which is not useful here, and so file B needs to be searched through for the object's full name (1 token since it would reside within the second column of any given line), and then the first column should be the ID number. If that doesn't work, we then have to split the search token by whitespace into separate tokens before doing a search of file C for those tokens as well. Much like a person's name. As per a comment, I will pre-compile the regex for my objectSearchToken, which is just [\r\n]+. What's ending up happening in file C is, every single line is being checked, even the 95% of lines which don't contain an ID number and object name at the start. Would it be quicker to use ^[\r\n]+.*(objectname) instead of two separate regexes? It may reduce the number of _match executions. The more general case of that would be, concatenate all tokensBefore with all tokensAfter, and put a .* in the middle. It would need to be matching backwards through the file though, otherwise it would match the correct line but with a huge .* block in the middle with lots of lines. The above situation could be resolved if I could get java.util.Scanner to return the token previous to the current one after a call to findWithinHorizon. I have another usage scenario. Will put it up asap.

The original site was done in php, Zend MVC, but my refactoring is being done in ASP.NET MVC 2. If you take the site http://www.cosplaydanmark.dk/Costumes/ (You can switch to English in the left column (Sprog)) Here you see a list of all the anime’s we have on the site with images, we show the name, how many different characters and how many images there are under this anime. http://www.cosplaydanmark.dk/Costumes/Bleach If you click on an anime will you get a list of characters within the given anime which we have images in, here do we show the character name, how many galleries and how many images. http://www.cosplaydanmark.dk/Costumes/Bleach/Ichigo_Kurosaki/ If you click on the character name, will you get a list of the galleries under the given character in the given anime. Here we have some information about the gallery, such as image count. http://www.cosplaydanmark.dk/Costumes/Bleach/Ichigo_Kurosaki/Admi/ Should you click the gallery do you get a list of the images in the gallery. My database look like this at the moment. As you can might imagine there are a lot of different query’s to create the site, on the first site I need to do a select on the on the “animes” table and for each result, I need to do a count select on characters and galleries. My plan to create this will be one of the following Where the IList, would be a lazy load list. But I can’t decide what would be the best solution for this would be, also if there is a better way of doing this. My priority is to have good performance with a minimum lose of features and code upkeep. I’m using a service pattern with a linq to sql repository. My design is not absolute, I’m willing to change it if it could increase performance :D I hope that I have describe my question good enough for you to understand what I mean, but ask away if there are anything I have missed.

First of all, why would I need to put the prefix for the children if the parent already has it. Doesn't the parent namespace dictate the children nodes/attribute namespaces? Secondly, I want to add the prefixes in the above XML as expected, how can I do that with XSL?

• jQuery CSS plugin that returns computed style of element to pseudo clone that element?

  I'm looking for a way using jQuery to return an object of computed styles for the 1st matched element. I could then pass this object to another call of jQuery's css method. For example, with width, I can do the following to make the 2 divs have the same width: $('#div2').width($('#div1').width()); It would be nice if I could make a text input look like an existing span: $('#input1').css($('#span1').css()); where .css() with no argument returns an object that can be passed to .css(obj). (I can't find a jQuery plugin for this, but it seems like it should exist. If it doesn't exist, I'll turn mine below into a plugin and post it with all the properties that I use.) Basically, I want to pseudo clone certain elements but use a different tag. For example, I have an li element that I want to hide and put an input element over it that looks the same. When the user types, it looks like they are editing the element inline. I'm also open to other approaches for this pseudo cloning problem for editing. Any suggestions? Here's what I currently have. The only problem is just getting all the possible styles. It works well and behaves exactly like the original css method with one exception: if 0 args are passed, it returns the computed style object. As you can see, it immediately calls the original css method if that's the case that applies. Otherwise, it gets the computed styles of all the listed properties (gathered from Firebug's computed style list). Although it's getting a long list of values, it's quite fast. Hope it's useful to others.
