    I am new to JPA. I am cofused about the @Version annotation. How it works? I have googled it and found various answers whose extract is as follows: JPA uses a version field in your entities to detect concurrent modifications to the same datastore record. When the JPA runtime detects an attempt to concurrently modify the same record, it throws an exception to the transaction attempting to commit last.   • Find files in a folder using Java

    Hello, I'm new here so be kind to my stupidity :) What I need to do if Search a folder say C:\example I then need to go through each file and check to see if it matches a few start characters so if files start temp****.txt tempONE.txt tempTWO.txt So if the file starts with temp and has an extension .txt I would like to then put that file name into a File file = new File("C:/example/temp***.txt); so I can then read in the file, the loop then needs to move onto the next file to check to see if it meets as above.     Hello everyone, I want to find the largest square in the number, but I am stuck at some point. I would really appreciate some suggestions. This is what I've done so far: I take the number on the input, factorize into prime numbers, and put the sequence of prime numbers to ArrayList. Numbers are sorted, in a sense, thus the numbers in the sequence are increasing. For example, 996 is 2 2 3 83 1000 is 2 2 2 5 5 5 100000 is 2 2 2 2 2 5 5 5 5 5 My idea now is to count number of occurrences of each elements in the sequence, so if the number of occurrences is divisible by two, then this is the square. In this way, I can get another sequence, where the right most element divisible by two is the largest square. What is the most efficient way to count occurrences in the ArrayList? Or is there any better way to find the largest square? Many thanks in advance!

Background First generation of my code looked something like this: class MyApp { public static void main(String[] args) { ... Signal.handle(term_sig, new SignalHandler() { public void handle(Signal sig) { ... } }); ... } } I believe I understand how to reflectively test for and use signal handlers -- Class.forName("sun.misc.Signal"), reflectively call Signal.handle, and so forth. My impulse was simply to instantiate another anonymous inner class with the dynamically obtained SignalHandler class, but I think that's just wishful syntax.

But if I: use Spring to supply an application context annotate my entities with JPA annotations (and use Hibernate as a JPA provider) configure C3P0 as a connection pooling data source annotate my service methods with @Transactional (and use Atomikos as JTA provider) Use JAXB for marshalling and unmarshalling and possibly add my own JNDI capability then don't I effectively have a JEE application server? And then aren't my beans EJBs? Or is there some other defining characteristic? What is it that a JEE compliant app server gives you that you can't easily/readily get from Tomcat with some 3rd party subsystems?

    I have a list of longitude and longitude points in an xml file that is used throughout my application. I find my self repeating this code to get points often and think there must be a better way? String[] mTempArray = getResources().getStringArray(R.array.stations); int len = mTempArray.length; mStationArray = new ArrayList<Station>(); for(int i = 0; i < len; i++){ Station s = new Station(); String[] fields = mTempArray[i].split("[\t ]"); s.setValuesFromArray(fields); Log.i("ADD STATION", ""+s); mStationArray.add(s); } XML is in the format of: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <resources> <array name="stations"> <item> <name>Station name</name> <longitude>1111111</longitude> <latitude>11111</latitude> <code>1</code> </item> And another (possible) problem is that to get just one station I have to get all of them and pull the one I want from the array. Is this going to be considerably slower? Can I make this array consistent throughout the app? (But keeping the separate Intent methodology)

    Hi all, Well, I'm a music fan guy, and now with my 18000 music collection, it's getting very hard to maintain. So, I would like to ask I could of question to help to write an app to maintain it for me. 1- How can I access a music file and read details of it? I mean, I would like to write some code and passing the directory, my app would read all the music files (understand mp3 files) and with that I would like to access details like title, artist, length and so on... 2- Is there a public source that I could access and update my file? A webservice somewhere that I could connect, query some information based on song name, or artist or whatever. I would like to achieve a final result of given a directory, my app would read the file, collect some information and query the source for a complete list of detail and update my file.   • Duplicates in a sorted java array

    I have to write a method that takes an array of ints that is already sorted in numerical order then remove all the duplicate numbers and return an array of just the numbers that have no duplicates. That array must then be printed out so I can't have any null pointer exceptions. The method has to be in O(n) time, can't use vectors or hashes. This is what I have so far but it only has the first couple numbers in order without duplicates and then just puts the duplicates in the back of the array. I can't create a temporary array because it gives me null pointer exceptions. public static int[] noDups(int[] myArray) { int j = 0; for (int i = 1; i < myArray.length; i++) { if (myArray[i] != myArray[j]) { j++; myArray[j] = myArray[i]; } } return myArray; }

  • Maven easyb plugin java heap space settings?

    Hi, I attempted to change my heap size for maven easyb plugin http://www.easyb.org/maven-easyb-plugin/. In my easyb test I added standard code to print the heap size using the code Runtime.getFreeMemory() and Runtime.getTotalMemory(). I tried setting the MAVEN_OPTS=-Xmx1024m -Xms1024m and also set the maven opts in Maven surefire plugin. Now when I run the same class from the Junit I can see the getTotalMemory() displaying a number close 1Gig but the when the same classes are invoked from easyb plugin they do not reflect the memory size. Shouldn't there be a way of passing JVM opts to maven easyb plugin when it runs these easyb tests? At the very minimum it should atleast pick up the MAVEN_OPTS settings from the environment. Has someone bumped into problems like this? (A search on this group's archive does not reveal much)

  • Statically checking a Java app for link errors

    I have a scenario where I have code written against version 1 of a library but I want to ship version 2 of the library instead. The code has shipped and is therefore not changeable. I'm concerned that it might try to access classes or members of the library that existed in v1 but have been removed in v2. I figured it would be possible to write a tool to do a simple check to see if the code will link against the newer version of the library. I appreciate that the code may still be very broken even if the code links. I am thinking about this from the other side - if the code won't link then I can be sure there is a problem. As far as I can see, I need to run through the bytecode checking for references, method calls and field accesses to library classes then use reflection to check whether the class/member exists. I have three-fold question: (1) Does such a tool exist already? (2) I have a niggling feeling it is much more complicated that I imagine and that I have missed something major - is that the case? (3) Do you know of a handy library that would allow me to inspect the bytecode such that I can find the method calls, references etc.? Thanks!

I know how to minimize or make a frame invisible but this has to be done real fast cos it's going to happen alot in each second (at least once every second).     I am extremely confused as to how a JButton works. I have read over the oracle documents of the JButton, but I have failed to see how a JButton can have an actionlistener added to it. I have really always wondered how things like JFrames and all that can have things like .addMouseListener and all that. Can anyone explain how a JButton can have an actionListener added to it like the .addActionListener(...) syntax?

  • implementing keepalives with Java

    Hi All, I am biulding a client-server application where I have to implement a keepalive mechanism in order to detect that the client has crashed or not. I have separate threads on both client and server side. the client thread sends a "ping" then sleeps for 3 seconds, while the server reads the BufferedInput Stream and checks whether ping is received, if so it makes the ping counter eqauls zero, else it increments the counter by +1, the server thread then sleeps for 3 seconds, if the ping counter reaches 3, it daclares the client as dead. The problem is that when the server reads the input stream, its a blocking call, and it blocks untill the next ping is received, irrespective of how delayed it is, so the server never detects a missed ping. any suggestions, so that I can read the current value of the stream and it doesn't block if there is nothing on the incoming stream.     If I have an instance of a class that I store in a session I need to make it serializable. This class has a static variable, will this be serialized in every instance stored? The static variable is a reference to a cache containing a lot of data in the background. Will all of this data be serialized? If so, it seems preferable to make this variable transient and re-fetch the cache instance each time the instance is restored. Maybe not store the cache instance at all in the class. Will the constructor execute when a class is restored from a serialized state? if not is there any other method I can use to re-instate a transient variable?

    I am trying to use a simple split to break up the following string: 00-00000 My expression is: ^([0-9][0-9])(-)([0-9])([0-9])([0-9])([0-9])([0-9]) And my usage is: String s = "00-00000"; String pattern = "^([0-9][0-9])(-)([0-9])([0-9])([0-9])([0-9])([0-9])"; String[] parts = s.split(pattern); If I play around with the Pattern and Matcher classes I can see that my pattern does match and the matcher tells me my groupCount is 7 which is correct. But when I try and split them I have no luck.
