• NSTimer to fire while device is locked

  Hi, I'm currently creating an alarm. I use NSTimer to schedule my alarms. My problem is when the device was put into locked mode my NSTimer doesn't fire. I think that the NSTimer will not fire because my app goes to suspended state when it is lock. Can you help me find a solution to my problem? I've found some topics about UIBackgroundModes, but I don't know how it will help me. Thanks.. The problem in UILocalNotification is when the device was in silent, the sound will not be hear. My implementation was I'm using NSTimer to fire an alarm when the app is in foreground or device is locked but app currently running. When the applicationDidEnterBackground: is called I schedule the UILocalNotification as the alarm.

• What should I grab as a development platform, an iPod or an iPad?

  Hey all, I've recently gotten into the world of contract programming, and two of my clients have indicated that they'd like to do something 'trendy', like ipod touch/iphone/ipad development. I have a mac laptop (first gen macbook pro) that I'll have to upgrade to snow leopard to do the development for any of them, from what I've read. So that's already a bit of a commitment, given all the stuff I have on that laptop I'll have to make sure is recoverable from backup. My budget is limited, but I think I need to learn this skill. Which device should I get to learn this kind of development, an iPod touch or an iPad? I don't have the money for an iPhone. I think that the iPhone/iPad SDK has an emulator mode, but I like to have the device I'm going to roll out on available to make sure that everything works as I'd expect, ie, what's easily readable on a laptop screen is still readable on the touch, etc.

• Stack trace in website project, when debug = false

  We have a website project. We are logging unhanded exceptions via a appdomain level exception handler. When we set debug= true in web.config, the exception log is showing the offending line numbers in the stack trace. But when we set debug = false, in web.config, log is not displaying the line numbers. We are not in a position to convert the website project in to webapplication project type at this time. Its legacy application and almost all the code is in aspx pages. We also need to leave the project in 'updatable' mode. i.e. We can't user pre-compile option. We are generating pdb files. Is there anyway to tell this kind of website projects to generate the pdb files, and show the line numbers in the stack trace?

• Listview Cancel/Update causes Failed Veiwstate Error

  I am utilizing a asp.net Listview control which is causing a Failed to load viewstate error after a row is put in edit mode and the user clicks either update or cancel. The ListView control is in an ascx User control that is hosted in a parent aspx page. The parent aspx code-behind calls the a bind method on the ascx page which in turn binds the ListView. I am trying to isolate where and how this is happening but have not had any success and frankly I am out of ideas. Please offer some suggestions on what I should be looking at. Thank you.

• Emacs enum indentation

  I'm having a problem with Emacs's indentation of Java enums. While it indents the first member OK, it wants to give all of the rest of the static enum members an additional level of indentation. It looks like this: class MyClass { public enum MyEnum { ONE(1), //good TWO(2), // not good! THREE(3), FOUR(4); private final int value; } } When I run C-c C-s on the line that opens the enum, it gives me ((inclass 1) (topmost-intro 1)), which doesn't seem quite right -- it seems like it should be giving brace-list-open. When I run it on the first enum member, it gives me ((defun-block-intro 21)), which is definitely not right. Every subsequent member gives (statement-cont 50). I'm in java-mode and I'm using the java style of indentation. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

• Application crashes when running in iPhone simulator 3.2 (Works fine in simulator 3.0)

  I just upgraded to SDK 3.2. My application runs in Simulator 3.0 in debug mode but when I change the Simulator to run with 3.2 it crashes with EXEC_BAD_ACCESS.   I am using a telerik radgrid so there are around 5 columns each column edittemplate contains a control along with a required field validator and also a property called AllowMultiRowEdit is set to true so i am able to multiple rows in edit mode. If any of the values are cleared the for multiple rows I want only those to be validated on update of that particular row. So i implemented the Grids item data bound event find each and every validator along with the update button and set a unique validation group. The above implementation most times but fails at some time. Is there any other way of going about this ?

  I'm trying to deploy the app onto my phone (Samsung S5300) I created project in IDEA and it works well in Android emulator. Now I want to deploy it onto my phone. I did the following: plugged USB enabled development mode and checked all options (USB, location etc) on the phone launched the same configuration but specified the device from the plugged devide (choose a running device) nothing happened, I don't see any errors neither in IDEA, not on the phone. What am I missing and how to fix the problem? The API SDK seems to be correct (2.3)

  Hi I have a web application running in cluster mode with a load balancer. It consists in two tomcats (T1, and T2) addressing only one DB. T2 is nfs mounted to T1. This is the only dofference between both nodes. I have a java method generating some files. If the request runs on T1 there is no problem but if the request is running on node 2 I get an exception as follows: java.io.IOException: Invalid argument at java.io.FileOutputStream.close0(Native Method) at java.io.FileOutputStream.close(FileOutputStream.java:279) The corresponding code is as follows: for (int i = 0; i < dataFileList.size(); i++) { outputFileName = outputFolder + fileNameList.get(i); FileOutputStream fileOut = new FileOutputStream(outputFileName); fileOut.write(dataFileList.get(i), 0, dataFileList.get(i).length); fileOut.flush(); fileOut.close(); } The exception appears at the fileOut.close() Any hint?   Greetings, in my mvc application when I try to connect to wcf service I get this error It is invalid to show a modal dialog or form when the application is not running in UserInteractive mode. Specify the ServiceNotification or DefaultDesktopOnly style to display a notification from a service application. The problem only occurs on production server (Win2008, IIS7). On my development server (WinXp, IIS6) it works ok. Additionally. I can connect from asp.net mvc development to wcf production service. I can't do this od production server (asp mvc production to production wcf service)

  Hi all, I'm a bit new to using emacs for webdevelopment. I am using php-mode and i am happy with it. There is only one issue i have which causes me a lot of problems because of our company's coding style. When i have a function, e.g.: $instance = new Model('foo', 'bar'); And I want to indent it like this: $instance = new Model( 'foo', 'bar' ); Emacs does the following when i insert a newline before the first argument and indents it like this: $instance = new Model( 'foo', 'bar' ); Can anyone point me in a direction on how i can configure/change this?   Hi, I have been programming with NSXMLParser for quite a while and lately, I came out with this error. The strangiest thing is that it only happens in debug mode. Once I load the App in Simulator and run it from Simulator (without Xcode involved), it runs fine. The code is very straight foward, it is a simple XML parsing whose contents were loaded from the web in a separated thread. Does anybody have alredy encoutered that error?? Thanks in advance.

• Invoking play on a QTMovie causes screensaver to deactivate on Snow Leopard

  I'm trying to port a working Leopard screensaver to Snow Leopard but it's deactivating after about half a second. The screensaver seems to deactivate upon invoking play on a QTMovie. And it deactivates both upon -play on the QTMovie object itself, and -play:self on the QTMovieView. If I don't actually call -play on the object, the screensaver does not deactivate and sits still on the first frame of the movie. Setting up the same code in a regular Cocoa Application works fine, and the screensaver also works fine in preview mode in the System Preferences. Any help is greatly appreciated.

• VS 2008 Profiler - Caller/Callee view showing bottom of stack

  Hello, I am currently trying to profile a class contained in a different assembly. To do this I created a small console application which calls into the public entry point of the class I want to profile. This enrty point is called Run(). This is working fine when I run my Console application in Debug mode and I can step into the Run() method. The Run() method calls a variety of other methods in its own assembly and other assemblies. However, when I create a new profiler of type "Instrumentation" in VS 2008, and run the profiler, the report shows my Main() function calling Run(), but in turn, when viewing the Caller/Callee report for my Run() method the report shows that the Run() method is the bottom of the stack. This is clearly not the case - could anyone please suggest why this is happening? Thanks.

  I have a method private static String DecompressAndDecode(byte[] data) { GZipStream decompressor = new GZipStream(new MemoryStream(data), CompressionMode.Decompress); StreamReader decompressed = new StreamReader(decompressor, Encoding.UTF8); String result = decompressed.ReadToEnd(); return result; } I have some GZipped text as input and the result is supposed to be a String representation of this text. The problem is that the method returns an empty string. What is puzzling me is that when I step trough the method in debug mode and reach the return statement the result variable is an empty string but if I create a watch for the decompressed.ReadToEnd() expression it returns me the text. What I would expect at this point is the result variable to contain the text and the decompressed.ReadToEnd() expression evaluating to an empty string. (Reevaluating the decompressed.ReadToEnd() expression returns an empty string as expected). There must be something obvious I'm missing here.

• Finding the actual runtime call tree of a Java Program

  Suppose I have a big program that consists of hundreds of methods in it. And according to the nature of input the program flow is getting changed. Think I want to make a change to the original flow. And it is big hassle to find call hierarchy/ references and understand the flow. Do I have any solution for this within Eclipse? Or a plugin? As an example, I just need a Log of method names that is in order of time. Then I don't need to worry about the methods that are not relevant with my "given input" Update : Using debug mode in eclipse or adding print messages are not feasible. The program is sooooo big. :)

• ReturnUrl = Default.aspx for MVC?

  I'm trying to secure my entire MVC site, so before the Home controller, I added an [Authorize] attribute. Now if you run it from Visual Studio or navigate using the root URL (e.g. http://localhost:2897) it does redirect to the login page, as expected. However the URL in the address bar after redirection looks like this: http://localhost:2897/Account/LogOn?ReturnUrl=%2fdefault.aspx%3f I haven't tested this out, seeing as I have not implemented my authentication code. However, this looks like a big problem to me, since I do not have a default.aspx in my project! My authentication tag in the web.config looks like this: <authentication mode="Forms"> <forms loginUrl="~/Account/LogOn" defaultUrl="~/Home/Index" timeout="2880"/> </authentication> Why doesn't it pick up this route as the default ReturnUrl instead of default.aspx?
