• Bootable USB drive won't run installation

  I am having issues installing 12.10 on a laptop from bootable USB Drive 4GB FAT32. Also I changed order on BIOS to boot from USB. But only I see is the black screen with SYSLINUX 4.06 EDD 4.06-pre7 Copyright (C) 1994-2012 H. Peter Anvin et al _ I tried to install 12.10 into my older laptop using the same bootable USB drive just to be sure, and it's all works fine! I have also trying different USB drives, but results were the same. So it looks like there is nothing wrong with my bootable USB drives. Something is wrong with my laptop, but I can't figure out what exactly, because it's very new and Windows7 boots and runs just great. I Googled but found nothing useful. My laptop is really a small one: Acer AOD270 Protcessor: Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N26OO 1.60 GHz RAM: 1 GB Windows 7 Starter 32 bit It has no CD drive Any help would be really appreciated please.

  I was playing a bit with Scalaz and I realized that Haskell's type classes are very similar to Scala's implicit parameters. While Haskell passes the methods defined by a type class using hidden dictionaries, Scala allows a similar thing using implicit parameters.   This might be a tricky question but here is the objective: Manage to mount a disk/partition automatically without (or at least trying to avoid): Editing any Samba configuration file Editing the fstab file and to make it a little bit harder, this needs to be done with the options for "Mount Options" in the Disk Utility: Note that if left as it is, every time a user mounts a partition/disk and then tries to share a folder in it, Windows users can see the share but can not access it, with a permission warning appearing. The point of all of this is to find the most user friendly (Oriented towards a GUI) way of enabling a partition to be mounted, accessed by the local user (Read, Write, Execute) and to also be able to, when needed, share a folder and have no problems reading/writing on it from another Ubuntu/Windows/Mac remote computer (Assuming both are in the same LAN network).

• Developing for Chrome App/Android?

  I have been developing for win7 mobile (XNA/silverlight and will continue to do so, love everything about it) but I wanted to branch a few of my more polished games to google app store online, and perhaps android(though not sure, as with all the different versions it makes learning/loading applications a bit tricky) What is the most versatile language to start learning from chrome apps/android: Java would be excellent for android, but could I port it to a web app for chrome? (and its close to C#) Flash would work for a web app as I can just embed it into a html page (have done actionscript before, didn't care much for the IDE though), but would it also work on android? or I guess there is always C/C++ but haven't heard much about that, though I think it works for both (though C++ does interest me) Any advice would be excellent, thanks.

• Out Of disk, but still boots

  I have a HP Compaq nx6310 notebook wth 4gb memory & a new 250gb hdd. After installing Ubuntu 12.04, i got an "out of disk" error & was unable to boot. I rebooted in live, instaled & ran Boot Repair then rebooted. Grub menu loaded fine, followed by "out of disk.....press any key to continue". I pressed a key & Ubuntu booted, a bit slow but still booted. • What are some good practices when trying to teach declarative programming to imperative programmers?

  I offered to do a little bit training in F# at my company and they seemed to show some interest. They are generally VB6 and C# programmers who don't follow programming with too much passion. That being said I feel like it is easier to write correct code when you think in a functional matter so they should definitely get some benefit out of it. Can anyone offer up some advice on how I should approach this? Ideas Don't focus on the syntax, instead focus on how this language and the idioms it promotes can be used. Try and think of examples that are a pain to write in an imperative fashion but translates to elegant code when written in a declarative fashion.

• How to represent a tree structure in NoSQL

  I'm new to NoSQL and have been playing around with a personal project on the MEAN stack (Mongo ExpressJs AngularJs NodeJs). I'm building a document editor of sorts that manages nodes of data. Each document is actually a tree. I have a CRUD api for documents, to create new trees and a CRUD api for nodes in a given document. Right now the documents are represented as a collection that holds everything, including nodes. The children parent relationship is done by ids. So the nodes are an map by id, and each node has references to what nodes are their children. I chose this "flat" approach because it is easier to get a node by id from a document. Being used to having a relation table between nodes and documents, a relation table between nodes and children nodes I find it a bit weird that I have to save the entire "nodes" map each time I update a node. Is there a better way to represent such a data type in NoSQL?

• Which, among the humble indie bundle V games, work on 10.04?

  Inevitably, I've coughed up for the latest Humble Bundle, containing 5 games: Amnesia, Bastion, Limbo, Psychonauts and Superbrothers: Sword and Sorcery. At the download page it says download for ubuntu but after that it transpired (after much head scratching) that the three games it lists "are not available for your version of ubuntu". The other two, Bastion and Psychonauts "will appear on the page soon", but until then does anybody think they might work? I don't want to to be disappointed after downloading a 4gb file, causing me to reminisce on childhood memories of loading 8-bit tape games for 45 minutes only to find out that you had to reload them once you died after 30 seconds in.

• Apache wont work after changing port

  I am working with ubuntu 12.04 server 64-bit edition. I have intalled apache2 without any problems and i can see the "It works" message. And i can also access from other pc within the network. I want to host my website using home DSL, However i found out that my ISP is blocking the port 80, 25 ,110 so i changed the port to 8010 (/etc/apache2/port.conf) After this I am unable to get the "It Works" web page. All it shows that "NOT FOUND" i tried with ipaddress:8010 and it doesnot work with both internal and also external.

• Help with creating symbolic link

  I'm a little bit confused with how the symbolic links work. I hope someone can guide me in the right direction. I want to put a demo online from our software, which normally only runs locally on a Mac Mini. So I put all the files in the var/www from my Ubuntu 12.04 server installation. There are a lot of hardcoded links in the software which point to "/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/narrowcasting" Of course I can change all these code on my html/php files in /var/www, but that would be quite annoying. I hope I can fix this by creating a symbolic link. For example I have a directory called thumb in /var/www/thumb. The php code is trying to put a image in /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/narrowcasting/thumb. Can anyone give me a tip how to achieve this with a symbolic link? Thanks in advance.

• How do walls affect lighting?

  I have been trying to implement a simple form of lighting in my 2D game. In the screenshot, I don't think it looks very good, kind of just plastered over the top of the map. How would the wall effect how the lighting is displayed? Just looking for tips on how to make my lighting look a bit better. • Asset displays in the UI

  I've seen a little bit of confusion about how the UI displays assets and asset information, so I thought I'd explain how information and actions are displayed.  In Ops Center, operating systems, servers, zones, Oracle VM Servers, and anything else that you can manage are called assets. When you discover them, Ops Center puts together a model in the navigation pane that shows the relationships between the assets. For example: This tree shows three servers, and the Operating Systems on each one. If one of the operating systems was a global zone, we'd see the non-global zones beneath the global zone as well. However, when you select an asset, the info in the center pane and the actions in the actions pane are the ones that apply to that specific asset, and not to its related assets. If you select a server, for example, you'll see service request info and have the option to provision a new OS. If you select an existing OS, you'll see file system information and have the option to update the OS. Actions that apply directly to the hardware aren't visible from the OS view, and vice versa.

• Unable to install flash plugin in Ubuntu 12.04

  Yesterday I upgraded from Ubuntu 11.10 to Ubuntu 12.04 (64 bit). The upgrade went smoothly (far more than I expected). Unfortunately, I cannot seem to install the flash plugin in either Firefox or Chrome. chrome://plugins does not show flash. Done flashplugin-installer is already the newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. • Windows XP with Ubuntu 14.04 on 2 separate hard drives

  I am new to Ubuntu. I have Windows XP Professional 32-bit on one 300GB IDE hard drive and Ubuntu 14.04 running on another 61GB IDE hard drive, and I cannot get my Windows XP to boot with Grub! When I select Windows XP from the boot menu, Grub just restarts my computer. The computer I have with those two hard drives is a Dell Optiplex GX240, so the hardware is old, and its BIOS won't let me change the boot priority on the two IDE hard drives. What can I do now? Is there a step I missed when installing Ubuntu? Can I edit Grub to boot Windows XP without messing with the BIOS? Do I have to downgrade to an older release of Ubuntu to make it work? I am willing to reinstall Ubuntu, if that's what it takes.

• Web Service - SOAP

  My experience with web services is slim and I'm trying to understand this a little bit more. I have done for instance a web service using visual studio. In order to use it, I add a web service reference in my projects and this creates a proxy and the use is pretty simple. Does this use SOAP? I ask this because i will be now facing a web service that i must communicate using SOAP with attachements and i'm trying to understand the concept behind this and the difference to what i have done so far. Will the proxy still be viable or do i need to create the XML by hand and post it to the web service? This concepts still confuse and so any help is appreciated. EDIT: I'm not developing the service, i will be just using it.
