  • How to convert M4B files to MP3?

    - by Click Upvote
I have downloaded some .m4b files, but my mp3 player cannot play them. I have tried several converters i found through google, but they can't seem to be able to convert the whole files. (Its an 8 hour long file, first program only converted it to a 1 hour long mp3, and the 2nd converted it to 5 hrs long, but with 3 hrs still missing). Is there a reliable program for converting them that i can use?

  • How to bring back a far right chromeless window?

    - by Click Ok
Accidentally some windows goes far right, and "goes out of" to the monitor. I know keyboard shortcuts to move it back when the windows have a title bar. But that windows (HTC Home and Rainlendar) don't have title bar, doesn't appears in windows TaskBar or TaskManager. I've tryed restart windows; to close and reopen that software; change the resolution to very low, and then to very high; but it doesn't works... I know that I can dig in the settings files of that programs, but I think interesting discover how to bring back that windows so I can use that technique if that problem appears again with another softwares too. Thank you!

  • How to have two UIPickerViews together in one ViewController?

    - by 0SX
    I'm trying to put 2 UIPickerViews together in one ViewController. Each UIPickerView has different data arrays. I'm using interface builder to link the pickers up. I know I'll have to use separate delegates and dataSources but I can't seem to hook everything up with interface builder correctly. Here's all my code: pickerTesting.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "picker2DataSource.h" @interface pickerTestingViewController : UIViewController <UIPickerViewDelegate, UIPickerViewDataSource>{ IBOutlet UIPickerView *picker; IBOutlet UIPickerView *picker2; NSMutableArray *pickerViewArray; } @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIPickerView *picker; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIPickerView *picker2; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray *pickerViewArray; @end pickerTesting.m #import "pickerTestingViewController.h" @implementation pickerTestingViewController @synthesize picker, picker2, pickerViewArray; - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; pickerViewArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [pickerViewArray addObject:@" 100 "]; [pickerViewArray addObject:@" 200 "]; [pickerViewArray addObject:@" 400 "]; [pickerViewArray addObject:@" 600 "]; [pickerViewArray addObject:@" 1000 "]; [picker selectRow:1 inComponent:0 animated:NO]; picker2.delegate = self; picker2.dataSource = self; } - (NSInteger)numberOfComponentsInPickerView:(UIPickerView *)picker; { return 1; } - (void)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)picker didSelectRow:(NSInteger)row inComponent:(NSInteger)component { } - (NSInteger)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)picker numberOfRowsInComponent:(NSInteger)component; { return [pickerViewArray count]; } - (NSString *)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)picker titleForRow:(NSInteger)row forComponent:(NSInteger)component; { return [pickerViewArray objectAtIndex:row]; } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { // Releases the view if it doesn't have a superview. [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; // Release any cached data, images, etc that aren't in use. } - (void)viewDidUnload { // Release any retained subviews of the main view. // e.g. self.myOutlet = nil; } - (void)dealloc { [super dealloc]; } @end And I have a separate class for the other datasource. picker2DataSource.h @interface picker2DataSource : NSObject <UIPickerViewDataSource, UIPickerViewDelegate> { NSMutableArray *customPickerArray; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray *customPickerArray; @end picker2DataSource.m #import "picker2DataSource.h" @implementation picker2DataSource @synthesize customPickerArray; - (id)init { // use predetermined frame size self = [super init]; if (self) { customPickerArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [customPickerArray addObject:@" a "]; [customPickerArray addObject:@" b "]; [customPickerArray addObject:@" c "]; [customPickerArray addObject:@" d "]; [customPickerArray addObject:@" e "]; } return self; } - (void)dealloc { [customPickerArray release]; [super dealloc]; } - (NSInteger)numberOfComponentsInPickerView:(UIPickerView *)picker2; { return 1; } - (void)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)picker2 didSelectRow:(NSInteger)row inComponent:(NSInteger)component { } - (NSInteger)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)picker2 numberOfRowsInComponent:(NSInteger)component; { return [customPickerArray count]; } - (NSString *)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)picker2 titleForRow:(NSInteger)row forComponent:(NSInteger)component; { return [customPickerArray objectAtIndex:row]; } @end Any help or code examples would be great. Thanks.

  • How to manage a MotionEvent going from one View to another?

    - by Darren
I have a SurfaceView that takes up part of the screen, and some buttons along the bottom. When a button is pressed and the user drags, I want to be able to drag a picture (based on the button) onto the SurfaceView and have it drawn there. I want to be able to use clickListeners and the like, and not just have a giant SurfaceView with me writing code to detect where the user pressed and if it's a button, etc. I have somewhat of a solution, but it seems a bit of a hack to me. What is the best way to accomplish this using the framework intelligently? Part of my XML: <RelativeLayout android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:background="@drawable/background"> <!-- Place buttons along the bottom --> <RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/bottom_bar" android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="40dip" android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" android:background="@null"> <ImageButton android:id="@+id/btn_1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_centerVertical="true" android:background="@null" android:src="@drawable/btn_1"> </ImageButton> <!-- More buttons here... --> </RelativeLayout> <!-- Place the SurfaceView in a frame so we can stack on top of it --> <FrameLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="0px" android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_above="@id/bottom_bar"> <com.project.question.MySurfaceView android:id="@+id/my_view" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" /> </FrameLayout> And the relevant Java code in MySurfaceView, which extends SurfaceView. mTouchX and Y are used in the onDraw method to draw the image: @Override public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent event){ mTouchX = (int) event.getX(); mTouchY = (int) event.getY(); return true; } public void onButtonTouchEvent(MotionEvent event){ event.setLocation(event.getX(), event.getY() + mScreenHeight); onTouchEvent(event); } Finally, the activity: @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE); setContentView(R.layout.my_surface); mView = (MySurfaceView) findViewById(R.id.my_view); mSurfaceHeight = mView.getHeight(); mBtn = (ImageButton) findViewById(R.id.btn_1); mBtn.setOnTouchListener(mTouchListener); } OnTouchListener mTouchListener = new OnTouchListener() { public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event) { int [] location = new int[2]; v.getLocationOnScreen(location); event.setLocation(event.getX() + location[0], event.getY()); mView.onButtonTouchEvent(event); return true; } }; Strangely, one has to add to the x-coordinate in the activity, then add to the y coordinate in the View. Otherwise, it doesn't show up in the correct position. If you add nothing, something drawn using mTouchX and mTouchY will show up in the upper left corner of the SurfaceView. Any direction would be greatly appreciated. If I'm going about this completely the wrong way, that would be good information too.

  • Grails validation problems with sets of data: only getting one error message for all errors in a set

    - by Matt
Hi, I'm trying to validate a domain class that has a number of subsets. class IebeUser { ... static hasMany = [openUserAnswers:OpenUserAnswer, closedUserAnswers:ClosedUserAnswer] } class OpenUserAnswer { OpenQuestion openQuestion String text static belongsTo = [user:IebeUser] static constraints = { openQuestion(nullable:false) text(blank:false) } } class ClosedUserAnswer { ClosedQuestion closedQuestion ClosedAnswer answer static belongsTo = [user:IebeUser] static constraints = { closedQuestion(nullable:false) answer(nullable:false) } } A closed question has a set of predefined answers and an open question lets the user enter a freeform answer. All is well until I come to validate the object after entry in a form: params: [closedUserAnswers[0].answer.id:, closedUserAnswers[0]:[answer:[id:], answer.id:], password:dfgdfgdf, openUserAnswers[0].text:gdfgdfgdfg, openUserAnswers[0]:[text:gdfgdfgdfg], _isOptedOut:, create:Continue, username:gdfgdfggdf, email:[email protected], closedUserAnswers[1].answer.id:, closedUserAnswers[1]:[answer:[id:], answer.id:], openUserAnswers[1].text:, openUserAnswers[1]:[text:], firstName:dfgdf, lastName:gdfgdfgd, action:save, controller:main] The key bits being: closedUserAnswers[0].answer.id:, closedUserAnswers[0]:[answer:[id:] closedUserAnswers[1].answer.id:, closedUserAnswers[1]:[answer:[id:] openUserAnswers[1].text:, openUserAnswers[1]:[text:] In my tests I have two objects of type closedUserAnswers and two of openUserAnswers. But when I call validation on IebeUser I only get validation errors for the closedUserAnswers or the openUserAnswers as a whole. I don't get validation errors for each object with a problem which is what I need. I really need an error per instance. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Even when I call the validate method against each closedUserAnswer/openUserAnswer I still only get one per type. Here are my errors. Sorry for all the code, but thought I'd include as much of the code as possible so that it makes sense. Field error in object 'uk.co.cascaid.iebe.IebeUser' on field 'openUserAnswers.text': rejected value []; codes [uk.co.cascaid.iebe.OpenUserAnswer.text.blank.error.uk.co.cascaid.iebe.IebeUser.openUserAnswers.text,uk.co.cascaid.iebe.OpenUserAnswer.text.blank.error.openUserAnswers.text,uk.co.cascaid.iebe.OpenUserAnswer.text.blank.error.text,uk.co.cascaid.iebe.OpenUserAnswer.text.blank.error,openUserAnswer.text.blank.error.uk.co.cascaid.iebe.IebeUser.openUserAnswers.text,openUserAnswer.text.blank.error.openUserAnswers.text,openUserAnswer.text.blank.error.text,openUserAnswer.text.blank.error,uk.co.cascaid.iebe.OpenUserAnswer.text.blank.uk.co.cascaid.iebe.IebeUser.openUserAnswers.text,uk.co.cascaid.iebe.OpenUserAnswer.text.blank.openUserAnswers.text,uk.co.cascaid.iebe.OpenUserAnswer.text.blank.text,uk.co.cascaid.iebe.OpenUserAnswer.text.blank,openUserAnswer.text.blank.uk.co.cascaid.iebe.IebeUser.openUserAnswers.text,openUserAnswer.text.blank.openUserAnswers.text,openUserAnswer.text.blank.text,openUserAnswer.text.blank,blank.uk.co.cascaid.iebe.IebeUser.openUserAnswers.text,blank.openUserAnswers.text,blank.text,blank]; arguments [text, class uk.co.cascaid.iebe.OpenUserAnswer]; default message [Property [{0}] of class [{1}] cannot be blank] Field error in object 'uk.co.cascaid.iebe.IebeUser' on field 'closedUserAnswers.answer': rejected value [null]; codes [uk.co.cascaid.iebe.ClosedUserAnswer.answer.nullable.error.uk.co.cascaid.iebe.IebeUser.closedUserAnswers.answer,uk.co.cascaid.iebe.ClosedUserAnswer.answer.nullable.error.closedUserAnswers.answer,uk.co.cascaid.iebe.ClosedUserAnswer.answer.nullable.error.answer,uk.co.cascaid.iebe.ClosedUserAnswer.answer.nullable.error,closedUserAnswer.answer.nullable.error.uk.co.cascaid.iebe.IebeUser.closedUserAnswers.answer,closedUserAnswer.answer.nullable.error.closedUserAnswers.answer,closedUserAnswer.answer.nullable.error.answer,closedUserAnswer.answer.nullable.error,uk.co.cascaid.iebe.ClosedUserAnswer.answer.nullable.uk.co.cascaid.iebe.IebeUser.closedUserAnswers.answer,uk.co.cascaid.iebe.ClosedUserAnswer.answer.nullable.closedUserAnswers.answer,uk.co.cascaid.iebe.ClosedUserAnswer.answer.nullable.answer,uk.co.cascaid.iebe.ClosedUserAnswer.answer.nullable,closedUserAnswer.answer.nullable.uk.co.cascaid.iebe.IebeUser.closedUserAnswers.answer,closedUserAnswer.answer.nullable.closedUserAnswers.answer,closedUserAnswer.answer.nullable.answer,closedUserAnswer.answer.nullable,nullable.uk.co.cascaid.iebe.IebeUser.closedUserAnswers.answer,nullable.closedUserAnswers.answer,nullable.answer,nullable]; arguments [answer, class uk.co.cascaid.iebe.ClosedUserAnswer]; default message [Property [{0}] of class [{1}] cannot be null]

  • Why only one video shows up in ASP.NET Video panel ?

    - by user284523
    It is possible to have multiple videos with Flowplayer http://flowplayer.org/demos/installation/multiple-players.html To do so in ASP.NET DYNAMICALLY, one has to use a Panel (see http://idevwebs.com/Default.aspx?id=25): <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="_Default" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <!-- A minimal Flowplayer setup to get you started --> <!-- include flowplayer JavaScript file that does Flash embedding and provides the Flowplayer API. --> <script type="text/javascript" src="flowplayer-3.1.4.min.js"></script> <!-- page title --> <title>Minimal Flowplayer setup</title> </head><body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div id="page"> <h1>Minimal Flowplayer setup</h1> <p>View commented source code to get familiar with Flowplayer installation.</p> <!-- this A tag is where your Flowplayer will be placed. it can be anywhere --> <!-- player #1 --> <asp:Panel ID="panelVideo" runat="server"> </asp:Panel> <!-- this will install flowplayer inside previous A- tag. --> <script type="text/javascript"> flowplayer("player", "flowplayer-3.1.5.swf"); </script> <!-- after this line is purely informational stuff. does not affect on Flowplayer functionality --> <p> If you are running these examples <strong>locally</strong> and not on some webserver you must edit your <a href="http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.html"> Flash security settings</a>. </p> <p class="less"> Select "Edit locations" &gt; "Add location" &gt; "Browse for files" and select flowplayer-x.x.x.swf you just downloaded. </p> <h2>Documentation</h2> <p> <a href="http://flowplayer.org/documentation/installation/index.html">Flowplayer installation</a> </p> <p> <a href="http://flowplayer.org/documentation/configuration/index.html">Flowplayer configuration</a> </p> <p> See this identical page on <a href="http://flowplayer.org/demos/example/index.htm">Flowplayer website</a> </p> </div> </form> </body></html> and then add video anchor dynamically public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { this.panelVideo.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl("<a href=\"" + "http://blip.tv/file/get/" + "KimAronson-TwentySeconds58192" + ".flv\" style=\"display:block;width:388px;height:230px\" id=\"player\"></a>")); this.panelVideo.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl("<a href=\"" + "http://blip.tv/file/get/" + "KimAronson-TwentySeconds67463" + ".flv\" style=\"display:block;width:388px;height:230px\" id=\"player\"></a>")); } } But it works only partially as the first video shows up not both. And all html below doesn't show up either.

  • Mysql optimization question - How to apply AND logic in search and limit on results in one query?

    - by sandeepan-nath
This is a little long but I have provided all the database structures and queries so that you can run it immediately and help me. Run the following queries:- CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `Tutor_Details` ( `id_tutor` int(10) NOT NULL auto_increment, `firstname` varchar(100) NOT NULL default '', `surname` varchar(155) NOT NULL default '', PRIMARY KEY (`id_tutor`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=41 ; INSERT INTO `Tutor_Details` (`id_tutor`,`firstname`, `surname`) VALUES (1, 'Sandeepan', 'Nath'), (2, 'Bob', 'Cratchit'); CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `Classes` ( `id_class` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment, `id_tutor` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL default '0', `class_name` varchar(255) default NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id_class`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 AUTO_INCREMENT=229 ; INSERT INTO `Classes` (`id_class`,`class_name`, `id_tutor`) VALUES (1, 'My Class', 1), (2, 'Sandeepan Class', 2); CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `Tags` ( `id_tag` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment, `tag` varchar(255) default NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id_tag`), UNIQUE KEY `tag` (`tag`), KEY `id_tag` (`id_tag`), KEY `tag_2` (`tag`), KEY `tag_3` (`tag`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=18 ; INSERT INTO `Tags` (`id_tag`, `tag`) VALUES (1, 'Bob'), (6, 'Class'), (2, 'Cratchit'), (4, 'Nath'), (3, 'Sandeepan'), (5, 'My'); CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `Tutors_Tag_Relations` ( `id_tag` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL default '0', `id_tutor` int(10) default NULL, KEY `Tutors_Tag_Relations` (`id_tag`), KEY `id_tutor` (`id_tutor`), KEY `id_tag` (`id_tag`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; INSERT INTO `Tutors_Tag_Relations` (`id_tag`, `id_tutor`) VALUES (3, 1), (4, 1), (1, 2), (2, 2); CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `Class_Tag_Relations` ( `id_tag` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL default '0', `id_class` int(10) default NULL, `id_tutor` int(10) NOT NULL, KEY `Class_Tag_Relations` (`id_tag`), KEY `id_class` (`id_class`), KEY `id_tag` (`id_tag`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; INSERT INTO `Class_Tag_Relations` (`id_tag`, `id_class`, `id_tutor`) VALUES (5, 1, 1), (6, 1, 1), (3, 2, 2), (6, 2, 2); Following is about the tables:- There are tutors who create classes. Tutor_Details - Stores tutors Classes - Stores classes created by tutors And for searching we are using a tags based approach. All the keywords are stored in tags table (while classes/tutors are created) and tag relations are entered in Tutor_Tag_Relations and Class_Tag_Relations tables (for tutors and classes respectively)like this:- Tags - id_tag tag (this is a a unique field) Tutors_Tag_Relations - Stores tag relations while the tutors are created. Class_Tag_Relations - Stores tag relations while any tutor creates a class In the present data in database, tutor "Sandeepan Nath" has has created class "My Class" and "Bob Cratchit" has created "Sandeepan Class". 3.Requirement The requirement is to return tutor records from Tutor_Details table such that all the search terms (AND logic) are present in the union of these two sets - 1. Tutor_Details table 2. classes created by a tutor in Classes table) Example search and expected results:- Search Term Result "Sandeepan Class" Tutor Sandeepan Nath's record from Tutor Details table "Class" Both the tutors from ... Most importantly, there should be only one mysql query and a LIMIT applicable on the number of results. Following is a working query which I have so far written (It just applies OR logic of search key words instead of the desired AND logic). SELECT td . * FROM Tutor_Details AS td LEFT JOIN Tutors_Tag_Relations AS ttagrels ON td.id_tutor = ttagrels.id_tutor LEFT JOIN Classes AS wc ON td.id_tutor = wc.id_tutor INNER JOIN Class_Tag_Relations AS wtagrels ON td.id_tutor = wtagrels.id_tutor LEFT JOIN Tags AS t ON t.id_tag = ttagrels.id_tag OR t.id_tag = wtagrels.id_tag WHERE t.tag LIKE '%Sandeepan%' OR t.tag LIKE '%Nath%' GROUP BY td.id_tutor LIMIT 20 Please help me with anything you can. Thanks

  • How to use jQuery to assign a class to only one radio button in a group when user clicks on it?

    - by xraminx
    I have the following markup. I would like to add class_A to <p class="subitem-text"> (that holds the radio button and the label) when user clicks on the <input> or <label>. If user clicks some other radio-button/label in the same group, I would like to add class_A to this radio-button's parent paragraph and remove class_A from any other paragraph that hold radio-buttons/labels in that group. Effectively, in each <li>, only one <p class="subitem-text"> should have class_A added to it. Is there a jQuery plug-in that does this? Or is there a simple trick that can do this? <ul> <li> <div class="myitem-wrapper" id="10"> <div class="myitem clearfix"> <span class="number">1</span> <div class="item-text">Some text here </div> </div> <p class="subitem-text"> <input type="radio" name="10" value="15" id="99"> <label for="99">First subitem </label> </p> <p class="subitem-text"> <input type="radio" name="10" value="77" id="21"> <label for="21">Second subitem</label> </p> </div> </li> <li> <div class="myitem-wrapper" id="11"> <div class="myitem clearfix"> <span class="number">2</span> <div class="item-text">Some other text here ... </div> </div> <p class="subitem-text"> <input type="radio" name="11" value="32" id="201"> <label for="201">First subitem ... </label> </p> <p class="subitem-text"> <input type="radio" name="11" value="68" id="205"> <label for="205">Second subitem ...</label> </p> <p class="subitem-text"> <input type="radio" name="11" value="160" id="206"> <label for="206">Third subitem ...</label> </p> </div> </li>

  • js code works for one variable(?), how to make it work for many?

    - by jerry87
    I have working code of js, it shows different div for selected option. <html> <head> <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $('#box1').hide(); $('#box2').hide(); $('#box3').hide(); $("#thechoices").change(function(){ $("#" + this.value).show().siblings().hide(); }); $("#thechoices").change(); }); </script> </head> <body> <select id="thechoices"> <option value="box1">Box 1</option> <option value="box2">Box 2</option> <option value="box3">Box 3</option> </select> <!-- the DIVs --> <div id="boxes"> <div id="box1"><p>Box 1 stuff...</p></div> <div id="box2"><p>Box 2 stuff...</p></div> <div id="box3"><p>Box 3 stuff...</p></div> </div> </body> </html> Please, I have no js experience, so I don't know how to make it work several times on one page for many "thechoices". Something like copy paste but more suitable than this: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $('#box1').hide(); $('#box2').hide(); $('#box3').hide(); $('#box4').hide(); $('#box5').hide(); $('#box6').hide(); $("#thechoices").change(function(){ $("#" + this.value).show().siblings().hide(); }); $("#thechoices2").change(function(){ $("#" + this.value).show().siblings().hide(); }); $("#thechoices").change(); }); $("#thechoices2").change(); }); </script> </head> <body> <select id="thechoices"> <option value="box1">Box 1</option> <option value="box2">Box 2</option> <option value="box3">Box 3</option> </select> <!-- the DIVs --> <div id="boxes"> <div id="box1"><p>Box 1 stuff...</p></div> <div id="box2"><p>Box 2 stuff...</p></div> <div id="box3"><p>Box 3 stuff...</p></div> </div> <select id="thechoices2"> <option value="box4">1</option> <option value="box5">2</option> <option value="box6">3</option> </select> <!-- the DIVs --> <div id="boxes"> <div id="box4"><p>1 stuff...</p></div> <div id="box5"><p>2 stuff...</p></div> <div id="box6"><p>3 stuff...</p></div> </div> I know you can help me, it seems to be simple but I can't handle with this. How can I change my second code to work in the same way but not only for two selectors. I need it for many. Don't want to copy paste the same section like in my second code.

  • List of all states from COMPOSITE_INSTANCE, CUBE_INSTANCE, DLV_MESSAGE tables

    - by Deepak Arora
In many of my engagements I get asked repeatedly about the states of the composites in 11g and how to decipher them, especially when we are troubleshooting issues around purging. I have compiled a list of all the states from the COMPOSITE_INSTANCE, CUBE_INSTANCE, DLV_MESSAGE and MEDIATOR_INSTANCE tables. These are the primary tables that are used when using BPEL composites and how they are used with the ECID.  Composite State Values COMPOSITE_INSTANCE States State Description 0 Running 1 Completed 2 Running with faults 3 Completed with faults 4 Running with recovery required 5 Completed with recovery required 6 Running with faults and recovery required 7 Completed with faults and recovery required 8 Running with suspended 9 Completed with suspended 10 Running with faults and suspended 11 Completed with faults and suspended 12 Running with recovery required and suspended 13 Completed with recovery required and suspended 14 Running with faults, recovery required, and suspended 15 Completed with faults, recovery required, and suspended 16 Running with terminated 17 Completed with terminated 18 Running with faults and terminated 19 Completed with faults and terminated 20 Running with recovery required and terminated 21 Completed with recovery required and terminated 22 Running with faults, recovery required, and terminated 23 Completed with faults, recovery required, and terminated 24 Running with suspended and terminated 25 Completed with suspended and terminated 26 Running with faulted, suspended, and terminated 27 Completed with faulted, suspended, and terminated 28 Running with recovery required, suspended, and terminated 29 Completed with recovery required, suspended, and terminated 30 Running with faulted, recovery required, suspended, and terminated 31 Completed with faulted, recovery required, suspended, and terminated 32 Unknown 64 - Normal 0 false false false EN-CA X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} Any value in the range of 32 to 63 indicates that the composite instance state has not been enabled, but the instance state is updated for faults, aborts, etc. CUBE_INSTANCE States State Description 0 STATE_INITIATED 1 STATE_OPEN_RUNNING 2 STATE_OPEN_SUSPENDED 3 STATE_OPEN_FAULTED 4 STATE_CLOSED_PENDING_CANCEL 5 STATE_CLOSED_COMPLETED 6 STATE_CLOSED_FAULTED 7 STATE_CLOSED_CANCELLED 8 STATE_CLOSED_ABORTED 9 STATE_CLOSED_STALE 10 STATE_CLOSED_ROLLED_BACK DLV_MESSAGE States State Description 0 STATE_UNRESOLVED 1 STATE_RESOLVED 2 STATE_HANDLED 3 STATE_CANCELLED 4 STATE_MAX_RECOVERED Since now in 11g the Invoke_Messages table is not there so to distinguish between a new message (Invoke) and callback (DLV) and there is DLV_TYPE column that defines the type of message: DLV_TYPE States State Description 1 Invoke Message 2 DLV Message MEDIATOR_INSTANCE STATE Description  0  No faults but there still might be running instances  1  At least one case is aborted by user  2  At least one case is faulted (non-recoverable)  3  At least one case is faulted and one case is aborted  4  At least one case is in recovery required state  5 At least one case is in recovery required state and at least one is aborted  6 At least one case is in recovery required state and at least one is faulted  7 At least one case is in recovery required state, one faulted and one aborted  >=8 and < 16  Running >= 16   Stale In my next blog posting I will walk through the lifecycle of a BPEL process using the above states for the following use cases: - New BPEL process - initial Receive activity - Callback BPEL process - mid-level Receive activity As always comments and questions welcome! • Are you using Virtual Machine as your primary development enviroment?

    - by Click Ok
Recently I have purchased a notebook that cames with Windows Home Basic (that don't have with ASP.Net/IIS. I thought in upgrade the Windows version to one with ASP.Net/IIS, but I thought in another possibility: I have an Hard Disk Case with a 360Gb HD. I thought in create a virtual machine with Windows Ultimate (installing too ASP.Net, IIS and Visual Studio 2008) in this HD Case, then I can access my "development enviroment" in any computer that I will work on (my desktop machine and my notebook). But I was worried about the performance. I don't have experience working in Virtual Machines (I use it just to quick compatibility tests)... Are you using Virtual Machine as your primary development enviroment? What your finds? ==================== Thanks for your answers! It really did help me! I would like to know too about portability ie.: the virtual machine that I created in my laptop will work in the desktop? I will need re-activate Windows?

  • MS Ajax Libraries and Configured Assemblies

    - by smehaffie
Use Case You have a brand new IIS servers that has .Net 3.5 installed and are migrating sites to the new servers.  In the process of migrating sites you come across some sites that get an error about the version of AJAX libraries being references in the web.config.  In the web.config all the entries reference 1.0.61025.0, but the older version of the AJAX libraries are not installed on the new servers, only the latest version is installed that comes with .Net 3.5.  So what are the options to fix this issue. Solutions 1) Install the older version of the AJAX Libraries: Although this works, IMO it is never a great idea to install an older version of a library after a newer version has been installed.  Plus, if all new application use the latest versions, is it worth the effort of installing the older version for a few legacy applications? 2) Update the web.config files so all references use latest version (3.5.0.0):  This option is very time consuming and error prone. In addition, you will also have to update any pages where there is a register tag for the older libraries as well.  This would require you to redeploy any application that have this issue. 3) Use the Configured Assembly capabilities of .Net (aka: Assembly Bindings) to make any application that uses the older AJAX libraries to use the new AJAX libraries.  IMO, this is the easiest, quickest and least invasive way to fix the issue.  Below are the steps to implement this fix. Solution #3 Do the following steps on the IIS servers that the issue is occurring.  The 2 assemblies that need assemblies bindings created are: System.Web.Extension & System.Web.Extensions.Design 1) Go to Start - > All Program -> Administrative Tools -> Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Configuration. 2) Right click on "Configured Assemblies" to view list of configured assemblies. 3) Left Click on right pane to bring up menu and choose "Add". 4) Make sure "Choose and assembly from the assembly cache is checked" and click the "Choose Assembly" button. 5) Choose System.Web.Extension (does not matter what version). 6) Click the "Finish" button. 7) Binding Policy Tab      - Enter Requested Version = 1.0.61025.0      - Enter New Version = 3.5.0.0 8) Repeat steps 2-7 for the System.Web.Extensions.Design assembly. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: If "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Configuration does not exist under Admin tools use mmc to access it (see below) 1) Start -> Run -> Enter MMC 2) File - > Add/Remove Snap-In then Click "Add" button 3) Choose ".Net 2.0 Configuration" then click "Add" button and then the "Close" Button. 4) On "Add/Remove Snapin" windows click the "OK" Button. 5) Expand the tree on the right and you can start following the directions above for adding the configured assemblies. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • How to Create Auto Playlists in Windows Media Player 12

    - by DigitalGeekery
Are you getting tired of the same old playlists in Windows Media Player? Today we’ll show you how to create dynamic auto playlists based on criteria you choose in WMP 12 in Windows 7. Auto Playlists In Library view, click on Create playlist dropdown arrow and select Create auto playlist. On the New Auto Playlist window type in a name for the playlist in the text box. Now we need to choose our criteria by which to filter your playlist. Select Click here to add criteria. For our example, we will create a playlist of songs that were added to the library in the last week from the Alternative genre. So, we will first select Date Added from the dropdown list. Many criteria will have addition options to configure. In the example below you will see that we have a few options to fine tune.   We will filter all the songs added to the library in the last 7 days. We will select Is After from the first dropdown list. Then select Last 7 Days from the second dropdown list. You can add multiple criteria to further filter your playlist. If you can’t find the criteria you are looking for, select “More” at the bottom of the dropdown list.   This will pull up a filter window with all the criteria. Select a filter and then click OK when finished.   From the Genre dropdown, we will select Alternative. If you’d like to add Pictures, Videos, or TV Shows to your auto playlists you can do so by selecting them from the dropdown list under And also include. You will then be able to select criteria for your pictures, videos, or TV shows from the dropdown list.   Finally, you can also add restrictions to your music such as the number of items, duration, or total size. We will limit the duration of our playlist to one hour by selecting Limit Total Duration To… Then type in 1 hour…Click OK.   Our library is automatically filtered and a playlist is created based on the criteria we selected. When additional songs are added to the Windows Media Player library, any of new songs that fit the criteria will automatically be added to the New Songs playlist. You can also save a copy of an auto playlist as a regular playlist. Switch to Playlists view by clicking Playlists from either the top menu or the navigation bar. Select the Play tab and then click Clear list to remove any tracks from the list pane.   Right-click on the playlist you want to save, select Add to, and then Play list. The songs from your auto playlist will appear as an Unsaved list on the list pane. Click Save list. Type in a name for your playlist. Your auto playlist will continue to change as you add or remove items from your Media Player library that meet the criteria you established. The new saved playlist we just created will stay as it is currently. Editing a Auto playlist is easy. Right-click on the playlist and select Edit. Now you are ready to enjoy your playlist. Conclusion Auto playlists are great way to keep your playlists fresh in Windows Media Player 12. Users can get creative and experiment with the wide variety of criteria to customize their listening experience. • SQL SERVER – Generate Report for Index Physical Statistics – SSMS

    - by pinaldave
Few days ago, I wrote about SQL SERVER – Out of the Box – Activity and Performance Reports from SSSMS (Link). A user asked me a question regarding if we can use similar reports to get the detail about Indexes. Yes, it is possible to do the same. There are similar type of reports are available at Database level, just like those available at the Server Instance level. You can right click on Database name and click Reports. Under Standard Reports, you will find following reports. Disk Usage Disk Usage by Top Tables Disk Usage by Table Disk Usage by Partition Backup and Restore Events All Transactions All Blocking Transactions Top Transactions by Age Top Transactions by Blocked Transactions Count Top Transactions by Locks Count Resource Locking Statistics by Objects Object Execute Statistics Database Consistency history Index Usage Statistics Index Physical Statistics Schema Change history User Statistics Select the Reports with name Index Physical Statistics. Once click, a report containing all the index names along with other information related to index will be visible, e.g. Index Type and number of partitions. One column that caught my interest was Operation Recommended. In some place, it suggested that index needs to be rebuilt. It is also possible to click and expand the column of partitions and see additional details about index as well. DBA and Developers who just want to have idea about how your index is and its physical statistics can use this tool. Click to Enlarge Note: Please note that I will rebuild my indexes just because this report is recommending it. There are many other parameters you need to consider before rebuilding indexes. However, this tool gives you the accurate stats of your index and it can be right away exported to Excel or PDF writing by clicking on the report. • How To Switch Back to Outlook 2007 After the 2010 Beta Ends

    - by Matthew Guay
Are you switching back to Outlook 2007 after trying out Office 2010 beta?  Here’s how you can restore your Outlook data and keep everything working fine after the switch. Whenever you install a newer version of Outlook, it will convert your profile and data files to the latest format.  This makes them work the best in the newer version of Outlook, but may cause problems if you decide to revert to an older version.  If you installed Outlook 2010 beta, it automatically imported and converted your profile from Outlook 2007.  When the beta expires, you will either have to reinstall Office 2007 or purchase a copy of Office 2010. If you choose to reinstall Office 2007, you may notice an error message each time you open Outlook. Outlook will still work fine and all of your data will be saved, but this error message can get annoying.  Here’s how you can create a new profile, import all of your old data, and get rid of this error message. Banish the Error Message with a New Profile To get rid of this error message, we need to create a new Outlook profile.  First, make sure your Outlook data files are backed up.  Your messages, contacts, calendar, and more are stored in a .pst file in your appdata folder.  Enter the following in the address bar of an Explorer window to open your Outlook data folder, and replace username with your user name: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook Copy the Outlook Personal Folders (.pst) files that contain your data. Its name is usually your email address, though it may have a different name.  If in doubt, select all of the Outlook Personal Folders files, copy them, and save them in another safe place (such as your Documents folder). Now, let’s remove your old profile.  Open Control Panel, and select Mail.  In Windows Vista or 7, simply enter “Mail” in the search box and select the first entry. Click the “Show Profiles…” button. Now, select your Outlook profile, and click Remove.  This will not delete your data files, but will remove them from Outlook. Press Yes to confirm that you wish to remove this profile. Open Outlook, and you will be asked to create a new profile.  Enter a name for your new profile, and press Ok. Now enter your email account information to setup Outlook as normal. Outlook will attempt to automatically configure your account settings.  This usually works for accounts with popular email systems, but if it fails to find your information you can enter it manually.  Press finish when everything’s done. Outlook will now go ahead and download messages from your email account.  In our test, we used a Gmail account that still had all of our old messages online.  Those files are backed up in our old Outlook data files, so we can save time and not download them.  Click the Send/Receive button on the bottom of the window, and select “Cancel Send/Receive”. Restore Your Old Outlook Data Let’s add our old Outlook file back to Outlook 2007.  Exit Outlook, and then go back to Control Panel, and select Mail as above.  This time, click the Data Files button. Click the Add button on the top left. Select “Office Outlook Personal Folders File (.pst)”, and click Ok. Now, select your old Outlook data file.  It should be in the folder that opens by default; if not, browse to the backup copy we saved earlier, and select it. Press Ok at the next dialog to accept the default settings. Now, select the data file we just imported, and click “Set as Default”. Now, all of your old messages, appointments, contacts, and everything else will be right in Outlook ready for you.  Click Ok, and then open Outlook to see the change. All of the data that was in Outlook 2010 is now ready to use in Outlook 2007.  You won’t have to wait to re-download all of your emails from the server since everything’s still here ready to be used.  And when you open Outlook, you won’t see any error messages, either! Conclusion Migrating your Outlook profile back to Outlook 2007 is fairly easy, and with these steps, you can avoid seeing an error message every time you open Outlook.  With all your data in tact, you’re ready to get back to work instead of getting frustrated with Outlook.  Many of us use webmail and keep all of our messages in the cloud, but even on broadband connections it can take a long time to download several gigabytes of emails. • SQL SERVER – Out of the Box – Activty and Performance Reports from SSSMS

    - by pinaldave
SQL Server management Studio 2008 is wonderful tool and has many different features. Many times, an average user does not use them as they are not aware about these features. Today, we will learn one such feature. SSMS comes with many inbuilt performance and activity reports, but we do not use it to the full potential. Let us see how we can access these standard reports. Connect to SQL Server Node >> Right Click on it >> Go to Reports >> Click on Standard Reports >> Pick Any Report. Click to Enlarge You can see there are many reports, which an average users needs right away, are available there. Let me list all the reports available. Server Dashboard Configuration Changes History Schema Changes History Scheduler Health Memory Consumption Activity – All Blocking Transactions Activity – All Cursors Activity – All Sessions Activity – Top Sessions Activity – Dormant Sessions Activity -  Top Connections Top Transactions by Age Top Transactions by Blocked Transactions Count Top Transactions by Locks Count Performance – Batch Execution Statistics Performance – Object Execution Statistics Performance – Top Queries by Average CPU Time Performance – Top Queries by Average IO Performance – Top Queries by Total CPU Time Performance – Top Queries by Total IO Service Broker Statistics Transactions Log Shipping Status In fact, when you look at the above list, it is fairly clear that they are very thought out and commonly needed reports that are available in SQL Server 2008. Let us run a couple of reports and observe their result. Performance – Top Queries by Total CPU Time Click to Enlarge Memory Consumption Click to Enlarge There are options for custom reports as well, which we can configure. We will learn about them in some other post. Additionally, you can right click on the reports and export in Excel or PDF. I think this tool can really help those who are just looking for some quick details. Does any of you use this feature, or this feature has some limitations and You would like to see more features? • Using jQuery to Insert a New Database Record

    - by Stephen Walther
The goal of this blog entry is to explore the easiest way of inserting a new record into a database using jQuery and .NET. I’m going to explore two approaches: using Generic Handlers and using a WCF service (In a future blog entry I’ll take a look at OData and WCF Data Services). Create the ASP.NET Project I’ll start by creating a new empty ASP.NET application with Visual Studio 2010. Select the menu option File, New Project and select the ASP.NET Empty Web Application project template. Setup the Database and Data Model I’ll use my standard MoviesDB.mdf movies database. This database contains one table named Movies that looks like this: I’ll use the ADO.NET Entity Framework to represent my database data: Select the menu option Project, Add New Item and select the ADO.NET Entity Data Model project item. Name the data model MoviesDB.edmx and click the Add button. In the Choose Model Contents step, select Generate from database and click the Next button. In the Choose Your Data Connection step, leave all of the defaults and click the Next button. In the Choose Your Data Objects step, select the Movies table and click the Finish button. Unfortunately, Visual Studio 2010 cannot spell movie correctly :) You need to click on Movy and change the name of the class to Movie. In the Properties window, change the Entity Set Name to Movies. Using a Generic Handler In this section, we’ll use jQuery with an ASP.NET generic handler to insert a new record into the database. A generic handler is similar to an ASP.NET page, but it does not have any of the overhead. It consists of one method named ProcessRequest(). Select the menu option Project, Add New Item and select the Generic Handler project item. Name your new generic handler InsertMovie.ashx and click the Add button. Modify your handler so it looks like Listing 1: Listing 1 – InsertMovie.ashx using System.Web; namespace WebApplication1 { /// <summary> /// Inserts a new movie into the database /// </summary> public class InsertMovie : IHttpHandler { private MoviesDBEntities _dataContext = new MoviesDBEntities(); public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) { context.Response.ContentType = "text/plain"; // Extract form fields var title = context.Request["title"]; var director = context.Request["director"]; // Create movie to insert var movieToInsert = new Movie { Title = title, Director = director }; // Save new movie to DB _dataContext.AddToMovies(movieToInsert); _dataContext.SaveChanges(); // Return success context.Response.Write("success"); } public bool IsReusable { get { return true; } } } } In Listing 1, the ProcessRequest() method is used to retrieve a title and director from form parameters. Next, a new Movie is created with the form values. Finally, the new movie is saved to the database and the string “success” is returned. Using jQuery with the Generic Handler We can call the InsertMovie.ashx generic handler from jQuery by using the standard jQuery post() method. The following HTML page illustrates how you can retrieve form field values and post the values to the generic handler: Listing 2 – Default.htm <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>Add Movie</title> <script src="http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/jquery/jquery-1.4.2.js" type="text/javascript"></script> </head> <body> <form> <label>Title:</label> <input name="title" /> <br /> <label>Director:</label> <input name="director" /> </form> <button id="btnAdd">Add Movie</button> <script type="text/javascript"> $("#btnAdd").click(function () { $.post("InsertMovie.ashx", $("form").serialize(), insertCallback); }); function insertCallback(result) { if (result == "success") { alert("Movie added!"); } else { alert("Could not add movie!"); } } </script> </body> </html>     When you open the page in Listing 2 in a web browser, you get a simple HTML form: Notice that the page in Listing 2 includes the jQuery library. The jQuery library is included with the following SCRIPT tag: <script src="http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/jquery/jquery-1.4.2.js" type="text/javascript"></script> The jQuery library is included on the Microsoft Ajax CDN so you can always easily include the jQuery library in your applications. You can learn more about the CDN at this website: http://www.asp.net/ajaxLibrary/cdn.ashx When you click the Add Movie button, the jQuery post() method is called to post the form data to the InsertMovie.ashx generic handler. Notice that the form values are serialized into a URL encoded string by calling the jQuery serialize() method. The serialize() method uses the name attribute of form fields and not the id attribute. Notes on this Approach This is a very low-level approach to interacting with .NET through jQuery – but it is simple and it works! And, you don’t need to use any JavaScript libraries in addition to the jQuery library to use this approach. The signature for the jQuery post() callback method looks like this: callback(data, textStatus, XmlHttpRequest) The second parameter, textStatus, returns the HTTP status code from the server. I tried returning different status codes from the generic handler with an eye towards implementing server validation by returning a status code such as 400 Bad Request when validation fails (see http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec10.html ). I finally figured out that the callback is not invoked when the textStatus has any value other than “success”. Using a WCF Service As an alternative to posting to a generic handler, you can create a WCF service. You create a new WCF service by selecting the menu option Project, Add New Item and selecting the Ajax-enabled WCF Service project item. Name your WCF service InsertMovie.svc and click the Add button. Modify the WCF service so that it looks like Listing 3: Listing 3 – InsertMovie.svc using System.ServiceModel; using System.ServiceModel.Activation; namespace WebApplication1 { [ServiceBehavior(IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults=true)] [ServiceContract(Namespace = "")] [AspNetCompatibilityRequirements(RequirementsMode = AspNetCompatibilityRequirementsMode.Allowed)] public class MovieService { private MoviesDBEntities _dataContext = new MoviesDBEntities(); [OperationContract] public bool Insert(string title, string director) { // Create movie to insert var movieToInsert = new Movie { Title = title, Director = director }; // Save new movie to DB _dataContext.AddToMovies(movieToInsert); _dataContext.SaveChanges(); // Return movie (with primary key) return true; } } }   The WCF service in Listing 3 uses the Entity Framework to insert a record into the Movies database table. The service always returns the value true. Notice that the service in Listing 3 includes the following attribute: [ServiceBehavior(IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults=true)] You need to include this attribute if you want to get detailed error information back to the client. When you are building an application, you should always include this attribute. When you are ready to release your application, you should remove this attribute for security reasons. Using jQuery with the WCF Service Calling a WCF service from jQuery requires a little more work than calling a generic handler from jQuery. Here are some good blog posts on some of the issues with using jQuery with WCF: http://encosia.com/2008/06/05/3-mistakes-to-avoid-when-using-jquery-with-aspnet-ajax/ http://encosia.com/2008/03/27/using-jquery-to-consume-aspnet-json-web-services/ http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2007/04/04/json-hijacking-and-how-asp-net-ajax-1-0-mitigates-these-attacks.aspx http://www.west-wind.com/Weblog/posts/896411.aspx http://www.west-wind.com/weblog/posts/324917.aspx http://professionalaspnet.com/archive/tags/WCF/default.aspx The primary requirement when calling WCF from jQuery is that the request use JSON: The request must include a content-type:application/json header. Any parameters included with the request must be JSON encoded. Unfortunately, jQuery does not include a method for serializing JSON (Although, oddly, jQuery does include a parseJSON() method for deserializing JSON). Therefore, we need to use an additional library to handle the JSON serialization. The page in Listing 4 illustrates how you can call a WCF service from jQuery. Listing 4 – Default2.aspx <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>Add Movie</title> <script src="http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/jquery/jquery-1.4.2.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="Scripts/json2.js" type="text/javascript"></script> </head> <body> <form> <label>Title:</label> <input id="title" /> <br /> <label>Director:</label> <input id="director" /> </form> <button id="btnAdd">Add Movie</button> <script type="text/javascript"> $("#btnAdd").click(function () { // Convert the form into an object var data = { title: $("#title").val(), director: $("#director").val() }; // JSONify the data data = JSON.stringify(data); // Post it $.ajax({ type: "POST", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", url: "MovieService.svc/Insert", data: data, dataType: "json", success: insertCallback }); }); function insertCallback(result) { // unwrap result result = result["d"]; if (result === true) { alert("Movie added!"); } else { alert("Could not add movie!"); } } </script> </body> </html> There are several things to notice about Listing 4. First, notice that the page includes both the jQuery library and Douglas Crockford’s JSON2 library: <script src="Scripts/json2.js" type="text/javascript"></script> You need to include the JSON2 library to serialize the form values into JSON. You can download the JSON2 library from the following location: http://www.json.org/js.html When you click the button to submit the form, the form data is converted into a JavaScript object: // Convert the form into an object var data = { title: $("#title").val(), director: $("#director").val() }; Next, the data is serialized into JSON using the JSON2 library: // JSONify the data var data = JSON.stringify(data); Finally, the form data is posted to the WCF service by calling the jQuery ajax() method: // Post it $.ajax({   type: "POST",   contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",   url: "MovieService.svc/Insert",   data: data,   dataType: "json",   success: insertCallback }); You can’t use the standard jQuery post() method because you must set the content-type of the request to be application/json. Otherwise, the WCF service will reject the request for security reasons. For details, see the Scott Guthrie blog post: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2007/04/04/json-hijacking-and-how-asp-net-ajax-1-0-mitigates-these-attacks.aspx The insertCallback() method is called when the WCF service returns a response. This method looks like this: function insertCallback(result) {   // unwrap result   result = result["d"];   if (result === true) {       alert("Movie added!");   } else {     alert("Could not add movie!");   } } When we called the jQuery ajax() method, we set the dataType to JSON. That causes the jQuery ajax() method to deserialize the response from the WCF service from JSON into a JavaScript object automatically. The following value is passed to the insertCallback method: {"d":true} For security reasons, a WCF service always returns a response with a “d” wrapper. The following line of code removes the “d” wrapper: // unwrap result result = result["d"]; To learn more about the “d” wrapper, I recommend that you read the following blog posts: http://encosia.com/2009/02/10/a-breaking-change-between-versions-of-aspnet-ajax/ http://encosia.com/2009/06/29/never-worry-about-asp-net-ajaxs-d-again/ Summary In this blog entry, I explored two methods of inserting a database record using jQuery and .NET. First, we created a generic handler and called the handler from jQuery. This is a very low-level approach. However, it is a simple approach that works. Next, we looked at how you can call a WCF service using jQuery. This approach required a little more work because you need to serialize objects into JSON. We used the JSON2 library to perform the serialization. In the next blog post, I want to explore how you can use jQuery with OData and WCF Data Services.

  • Set the Windows Explorer Startup Folder in Windows 7

    - by Mysticgeek
When you open Windows Explorer from the Taskbar in Windows 7, it defaults to the Libraries view. Today we take a look at changing the target path to allow you to customize which location opens by default. When you click on the Windows Explorer icon on the Windows 7 Taskbar, it’s set to open to the Libraries view by default. You might not use the Libraries feature, or want to set it to a different location that is more commonly used. Set Windows Explorer Startup Location To change the default startup location for the Windows Explorer Taskbar icon, if you have no Explorer screens open, hold down the Shift key, right-click the Explorer icon, and select Properties. Or if you have Windows open, right-click on the Explorer icon to bring up the Jumplist, then right-click on Windows Explorer and select Properties. Windows Explorer Properties opens up and you’ll want to click on the Shortcut tab so we can change the Target.   A common place you might want it to default to is your Documents folder. So to do that we need to enter the following into the Target field. %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n,::{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}   Now when you open Windows Explorer from the Taskbar it defaults to My Documents… If you use the Start Menu to access Windows Explorer, open the Start Menu and go to All Programs \ Accessories and right-click on Windows Explorer then select Properties. Change the target path to where you want it to go. In this example we want Windows Explorer to open up to My Computer so we entered the following in the Target field. %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /E,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} When click on the Explorer icon in the Start Menu it defaults to My Computer… You can set it to open to various locations. For instance if you wanted to mess with someone at work, you could enter the following and Explorer will always open to the Recycle Bin. %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /E,::{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} Conclusion Here we showed you a couple of commonly used locations that you might want Windows Explorer to open to instead of Libraries. You can set it to other locations if you know the GUID (Globally Unique Identifiers) for the object or location you want it to default to. For more on using GUIDs check out The Geek’s article on how to enable the secret “How-To Geek” mode in Windows 7. Actually it’s just a play on the so-called “God Mode” for Windows, but there is some good information, and a list of some locations you might want to have Windows Explorer open to. • Add Keyboard Input Language to Ubuntu

    - by Matthew Guay
Want to type in multiple languages in Ubuntu?  Here we’ll show you how you can easily add and switch between multiple keyboard layouts in Ubuntu. Add a Keyboard Language To add a keyboard language, open the System menu, select Preferences, and then select Keyboard. In the Keyboard Preferences dialog, select the Layouts tab, and click Add.   You can select a country and then choose an language and keyboard variant.  Note that some countries, such as the United States, may show several languages.  Once you’ve made your selection, you can preview it on the sample keyboard displayed below the menu. Alternately, on the second tab, select a language and then choose a variant.  Click Add when you’ve made your selection. Now you’ll notice that there are two languages listed in the Keyboard Preferences, and they’re both ready to use immediately.  You can add more if you wish, or close the dialog. Switch Between Languages When you have multiple input languages installed, you’ll notice a new icon in your system tray on the top right.  It will show the abbreviation of the country and/or language name that is currently selected.  Click the icon to change the language. Right-click the dialog to view available languages (listed under Groups), open the Keyboard Preferences dialog again, or show the current layout. If you select Show Current Layout you’ll see a window with the keyboard preview we saw previously when setting the keyboard layout.  You can even print this layout preview out to help you remember a layout if you wish. Change Keyboard Shortcuts to Switch Languages By default, you can switch input languages in Ubuntu from the keyboard by pressing both Alt keys together.  Many users are already used to the default Alt+Switch combination to switch input languages in Windows, and we can add that in Ubuntu.  Open the keyboard preferences dialog, select the Layout tab, and click Options. Click the plus sign beside Key(s) to change layout, and select Alt+Shift.  Click Close, and you can now use this familiar shortcut to switch input languages. The layout options dialog offers many more neat keyboard shortcuts and options.  One especially neat option was the option to use a keyboard led to show when we’re using the alternate keyboard layout.  We selected the ScrollLock light since it’s hardly used today, and now it lights up when we’re using our other input language.   Conclusion Whether you regularly type in multiple languages or only need to enter an occasional character from an alternate keyboard layout, Ubuntu’s keyboard settings make it easy to make your keyboard work the way you want.  And since you can even preview and print a keyboard layout, you can even remember an alternate keyboard’s layout if it’s not printed on your keyboard. Windows users, you’re not left behind, either.  Check out our tutorial on how to Add keyboard languages to XP, Vista, and Windows 7. • Visual Studio 2010 Extension Manager (and the new VS 2010 PowerCommands Extension)

    - by ScottGu
This is the twenty-third in a series of blog posts I’m doing on the VS 2010 and .NET 4 release. Today’s blog post covers some of the extensibility improvements made in VS 2010 – as well as a cool new "PowerCommands for Visual Studio 2010” extension that Microsoft just released (and which can be downloaded and used for free). [In addition to blogging, I am also now using Twitter for quick updates and to share links. Follow me at: twitter.com/scottgu] Extensibility in VS 2010 VS 2010 provides a much richer extensibility model than previous releases.  Anyone can build extensions that add, customize, and light-up the Visual Studio 2010 IDE, Code Editors, Project System and associated Designers. VS 2010 Extensions can be created using the new MEF (Managed Extensibility Framework) which is built-into .NET 4.  You can learn more about how to create VS 2010 extensions from this this blog post from the Visual Studio Team Blog. VS 2010 Extension Manager Developers building extensions can distribute them on their own (via their own web-sites or by selling them).  Visual Studio 2010 also now includes a built-in “Extension Manager” within the IDE that makes it much easier for developers to find, download, and enable extensions online.  You can launch the “Extension Manager” by selecting the Tools->Extension Manager menu option: This loads an “Extension Manager” dialog which accesses an “online gallery” at Microsoft, and then populates a list of available extensions that you can optionally download and enable within your copy of Visual Studio: There are already hundreds of cool extensions populated within the online gallery.  You can browse them by category (use the tree-view on the top-left to filter them).  Clicking “download” on any of the extensions will download, install, and enable it. PowerCommands for Visual Studio 2010 This weekend Microsoft released the free PowerCommands for Visual Studio 2010 extension to the online gallery.  You can learn more about it here, and download and install it via the “Extension Manager” above (search for PowerCommands to find it). The PowerCommands download adds dozens of useful commands to Visual Studio 2010.  Below is a screen-shot of just a few of the useful commands that it adds to the Solution Explorer context menus: Below is a list of all the commands included with this weekend’s PowerCommands for Visual Studio 2010 release: Enable/Disable PowerCommands in Options dialog This feature allows you to select which commands to enable in the Visual Studio IDE. Point to the Tools menu, then click Options. Expand the PowerCommands options, then click Commands. Check the commands you would like to enable. Note: All power commands are initially defaulted Enabled. Format document on save / Remove and Sort Usings on save The Format document on save option formats the tabs, spaces, and so on of the document being saved. It is equivalent to pointing to the Edit menu, clicking Advanced, and then clicking Format Document. The Remove and sort usings option removes unused using statements and sorts the remaining using statements in the document being saved. Note: The Remove and sort usings option is only available for C# documents. Format document on save and Remove and sort usings both are initially defaulted OFF. Clear All Panes This command clears all output panes. It can be executed from the button on the toolbar of the Output window. Copy Path This command copies the full path of the currently selected item to the clipboard. It can be executed by right-clicking one of these nodes in the Solution Explorer: The solution node; A project node; Any project item node; Any folder. Email CodeSnippet To email the lines of text you select in the code editor, right-click anywhere in the editor and then click Email CodeSnippet. Insert Guid Attribute This command adds a Guid attribute to a selected class. From the code editor, right-click anywhere within the class definition, then click Insert Guid Attribute. Show All Files This command shows the hidden files in all projects displayed in the Solution Explorer when the solution node is selected. It enhances the Show All Files button, which normally shows only the hidden files in the selected project node. Undo Close This command reopens a closed document , returning the cursor to its last position. To reopen the most recently closed document, point to the Edit menu, then click Undo Close. Alternately, you can use the CtrlShiftZ shortcut. To reopen any other recently closed document, point to the View menu, click Other Windows, and then click Undo Close Window. The Undo Close window appears, typically next to the Output window. Double-click any document in the list to reopen it. Collapse Projects This command collapses a project or projects in the Solution Explorer starting from the root selected node. Collapsing a project can increase the readability of the solution. This command can be executed from three different places: solution, solution folders and project nodes respectively. Copy Class This command copies a selected class entire content to the clipboard, renaming the class. This command is normally followed by a Paste Class command, which renames the class to avoid a compilation error. It can be executed from a single project item or a project item with dependent sub items. Paste Class This command pastes a class entire content from the clipboard, renaming the class to avoid a compilation error. This command is normally preceded by a Copy Class command. It can be executed from a project or folder node. Copy References This command copies a reference or set of references to the clipboard. It can be executed from the references node, a single reference node or set of reference nodes. Paste References This command pastes a reference or set of references from the clipboard. It can be executed from different places depending on the type of project. For CSharp projects it can be executed from the references node. For Visual Basic and Website projects it can be executed from the project node. Copy As Project Reference This command copies a project as a project reference to the clipboard. It can be executed from a project node. Edit Project File This command opens the MSBuild project file for a selected project inside Visual Studio. It combines the existing Unload Project and Edit Project commands. Open Containing Folder This command opens a Windows Explorer window pointing to the physical path of a selected item. It can be executed from a project item node Open Command Prompt This command opens a Visual Studio command prompt pointing to the physical path of a selected item. It can be executed from four different places: solution, project, folder and project item nodes respectively. Unload Projects This command unloads all projects in a solution. This can be useful in MSBuild scenarios when multiple projects are being edited. This command can be executed from the solution node. Reload Projects This command reloads all unloaded projects in a solution. It can be executed from the solution node. Remove and Sort Usings This command removes and sort using statements for all classes given a project. It is useful, for example, in removing or organizing the using statements generated by a wizard. This command can be executed from a solution node or a single project node. Extract Constant This command creates a constant definition statement for a selected text. Extracting a constant effectively names a literal value, which can improve readability. This command can be executed from the code editor by right-clicking selected text. Clear Recent File List This command clears the Visual Studio recent file list. The Clear Recent File List command brings up a Clear File dialog which allows any or all recent files to be selected. Clear Recent Project List This command clears the Visual Studio recent project list. The Clear Recent Project List command brings up a Clear File dialog which allows any or all recent projects to be selected. Transform Templates This command executes a custom tool with associated text templates items. It can be executed from a DSL project node or a DSL folder node. Close All This command closes all documents. It can be executed from a document tab. How to temporarily disable extensions Extensions provide a great way to make Visual Studio even more powerful, and can help improve your overall productivity.  One thing to keep in mind, though, is that extensions run within the Visual Studio process (DevEnv.exe) and so a bug within an extension can impact both the stability and performance of Visual Studio.  If you ever run into a situation where things seem slower than they should, or if you crash repeatedly, please temporarily disable any installed extensions and see if that fixes the problem.  You can do this for extensions that were installed via the online gallery by re-running the extension manager (using the Tools->Extension Manager menu option) and by selecting the “Installed Extensions” node on the top-left of the dialog – and then by clicking “Disable” on any of the extensions within your installed list: Hope this helps, Scott

  • Setup Remote Access in Windows Home Server

    - by Mysticgeek
One of the many awesome features of Windows Home Server, is the ability to access your server and other computers on your network remotely. Today we show you the steps to enable Remote Access to your home server from anywhere you have an Internet connection. Remote Access in Windows Home Server has a lot of great features like uploading and downloading files from shared folders, accessing files from machines on your network, and controling machines remotely (on supported OS versions). Here we take a look at the basics of setting it up, choosing a domain name, and verifying you can connect remotely. Setup Remote Access in Windows Home Server Open the Windows Home Server Console and click on Settings. Next select Remote Access, it is off by default, just click the button to turn it on. Wait while your router is configured for remote access, when it’s complete click Next. Notice that it will enable UPnP, if you don’t wish to have that enabled, you can manually forward the correct ports. If you have any problems with the router being automatically configured, we’ll be taking a look at a more detailed troubleshooting guide in the future. The router is successfully configured, and we can continue to the next process of configuring our domain name. The Domain Name Setup Wizard will start. Notice you will need a Windows Live ID to set it up –which is typically your hotmail address. If you don’t already have one, you can get one here. Type in your Live ID email address and password and click Next… Agree to the Home Server Privacy Statement and the Live Custom Domains Addendum. If you’re concerned about privacy and want to learn more about the domain addendum, make sure to read about it before agreeing. There is nothing abnormal to point out about either statement, but if this is your first time setting it up, it’s good to review the information.   Now choose a name for the domain. You should select something that is easy to remember and identifies your home server. The name can contain up to 63 characters, numbers, letters, and hyphens…and must begin and end with a letter or number. When you have the name figured out click the Confirm button. Note: You can only register one domain name per Live ID. If the name isn’t already taken, you’ll get a confirmation message indicating it’s god to go. The wizard is complete and you can now access the home server from the URL provided. A few other things to point out after you’ve set it up…under Domain Name click on the Details button… Which pulls up the domain detail information and you can refresh the data to verify everything is working correctly. Or you can click the Configure button and then change or release your current domain name. Under Web site settings, you can change you site page headline to whatever you want it to be. Accessing Home Server Remotely After you’ve gotten everything setup for your home server domain, you can begin to access it when you’re away from home. Simply type in the domain address you created in the previous steps. The start page is rather boring…and to start accessing your data, click the Log On button in the upper right hand corner. Then enter in your home server credentials to gain access to your files, folders, and network computers. You won’t be able to log in with your administrator user account however, to protect security of your network. Once you’re logged in, you’ll be able to access different parts of your home server shares and network computers. Conclusion Now that you have Remote Access setup, you should be able to access and manage your files easily. Being able to access data from your home server remotely is great when you need to get certain files while on the road. The web UI is pretty self explanatory, works best in IE as ActiveX is required, and is smooth and easy to work with. In future articles we’ll be covering a lot more regarding remote access, including more of the available features, troubleshooting connection issues, and enabling access for other users. • OBIEE 11.1.1 - Disable Wrap Data Types in WebLogic Server 10.3.x

    - by Ahmed Awan
By default, JDBC data type’s objects are wrapped with a WebLogic wrapper. This allows for features like debugging output and track connection usage to be done by the server. The wrapping can be turned off by setting this value to false. This improves performance, in some cases significantly, and allows for the application to use the native driver objects directly. Tip: How to Disable Wrapping in WLS Administration Console You can use the Administration Console to disable data type wrapping for following JDBC data sources in bifoundation_domain domain: Data Source Name bip_datasource mds-owsm EPMSystemRegistry   To disable wrapping for each JDBC data source (as stated in above table): 1.     If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit. 2.     In the Domain Structure tree, expand Services, then select Data Sources. 3.     On the Summary of Data Sources page, click the data source name for example “mds-owsm”. 4.     Select the Configuration: Connection Pool tab. 5.     Scroll down and click Advanced to show the advanced connection pool options. 6.     In Wrap Data Types, deselect the checkbox to disable wrapping. 7.     Click Save. 8.     To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes. Important Note: This change does not take effect immediately—it requires the server be restarted.
