  • How many bytes does Oracle use when storing a single character?

    - by Mr-sk
I tried to look here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/datatype.htm#i3253 And I understand that I have to provide string length for the column, I'm just not able to find out how many bytes oracle uses when storing a character. My limit is 500 characters, so if its 1 byte / character, I can create the column with 500, if its 2 byte / character then 1000, etc. Anyone have a link to the documentation or know for certain? In case it matters, the SQL is being called from PHP, so these are PHP strings I'm inserting into the database. Thanks.

  • Upload Photo To Album

    - by st4ck0v3rfl0w
Hello All, I'm trying to familiarize myself with Facebook's new Graph API and so far I can fetch and write some data pretty easily. Something I'm struggling to find decent documentation on is uploading images to an album. According to http://developers.facebook.com/docs/api#publishing you need to supply the message argument. But I'm not quite sure how to construct it. Older resources I've read are: http://wiki.auzigog.com/Facebook_Photo_Uploads http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Photos.upload If someone has more information or could help me tackle uploading photos to an album using Facebook Graph API please reply!

  • Quick example of multi-column results with jQueryUI's new Autocomplete?

    - by Lance May
I just found out that the jQueryUI now has it's own built-in auto-complete combo box. Great news! Unfortunately, the next thing I found is that making it multi-column doesn't seem nearly that simple (at least via documentation). There is a post here where someone mentions that they've done it (and even gives code), but I'm having trouble understanding what some of their code is doing. I'm just curious if anyone has ran across this before and could post a quick and easy sample of making a multi-column result set. Thanks much in advance.

  • Add CSS to Form Type is Symfony2

    - by Umair Iqbal

  • Setup sonar-runner for multiple java projects

    - by zetafish
I am trying to run sonar-runner to analyze multiple Java projects in one go. According to the documentation http://docs.codehaus.org/display/SONAR/Analyse+with+a+simple+Java+Runner it is just a matter of creating a sonar-project.properties file for each project. But it is not clear to me where exactly I have to put these sonar-project.properties files. I tried to add multiple .properties files in the $SONAR_RUNNER_HOME/conf folder but the runner does not seem to pick them up. It only sees the sonar-project.properties file. Any suggestions on how to run sonar-runner for multiple projects?

  • Using Property Builtin with GAE Datastore's Model

    - by ejel
I want to make attributes of GAE Model properties. The reason is for cases like to turn the value into uppercase before storing it. For a plain Python class, I would do something like: Foo(db.Model): def get_attr(self): return self.something def set_attr(self, value): self.something = value.upper() if value != None else None attr = property(get_attr, set_attr) However, GAE Datastore have their own concept of Property class, I looked into the documentation and it seems that I could override get_value_for_datastore(model_instance) to achieve my goal. Nevertheless, I don't know what model_instance is and how to extract the corresponding field from it. Is overriding GAE Property classes the right way to provides getter/setter-like functionality? If so, how to do it? Added: One potential issue of overriding get_value_for_datastore that I think of is it might not get called before the object was put into datastore. Hence getting the attribute before storing the object would yield an incorrect value.

  • JDBC CLASSPATH Not Working

    - by AeroDroid
I'm setting up a simple JDBC connection to my working MySQL database on my server. I'm using the Connector-J provided by MySQL. According to their documentation, I'm suppose to create the CLASSPATH variable to point to the directory where the mysql-connector-java-5.0.8-bin.jar is located. I used export set CLASSPATH=/path/mysql-connector-java-5.0.8-bin.jar:$CLASSPATH. When I type echo $CLASSPATH to see if it exists, everything seems fine. But then when I open a new terminal and type echo $CLASSPATH it's no longer there. I think this is the main reason why my Java server won't connect to the JDBC, because it isn't saving the CLASSPATH variable I set. Anyone got suggestions or fixes on how to set up JDBC in the first place?

  • Read binary data from a MDB-file running under LAMP

    - by BusterX
I need to be able to connect to an MDB-file in a LAMP-environment (running on Linux) and ultimately insert converted data into a Mysql db. The data I need to access is stored as a BLOB (Long Binary Data according to Access) in the MDB file. I have not yet been able to actually have a look at the data but I have been told that the BLOB consists of byte strings. Something along the lines of: 0x1c 0x10 0x27 0x00 0x00 I need to parse the byte strings and convert these to a format that is human readable. I do have access to the documentation that explains the various byte strings. So this is really two questions: How do a get access to the MDB file via PHP* (running under LAMP) and read the BLOB (I do not have access to a Windows-platform)? What would be the best way to parse the binary data (in PHP*) once I am able to connect to the MDB-file? *Or are there other methods/languages that are more appropriate?

  • Mac OS X 10.5+ and POSIX

    - by Phil
Hello, I need to program an authentication module that has to work with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and at the same time needs to be POSIX-compliant. I read here: developer.apple.com/leopard/overview/osfoundations.html that since Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, Mac OS X is POSIX-compliant (to POSIX 1003.1), but working under MAC OS X 10.5 Leopard myself, I can't find any trace of my user name neither in /etc/passwd nor in its successor /etc/master.passwd, which is mentioned here: developer.apple.com/mac/library/DOCUMENTATION/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man5/passwd.5.html Instead it says in both files OpenDirectory Service is used, which should be OpenLDAP according to the OpenDirectoryService man-page. Is this still POSIX-compliant ? I guess not. I wonder how Mac OS X would handle my 100% POSIX-compliant code which depends on /etc/passwd ? I would be gratefull if someone could explain the way this works to me. Thank you for your time and trouble. Best regards Phil.

  • Objective-c class initializer executes multiple times

    - by apisip
    Unless I misunderstood it, this LINK from Apple's documentation clearly states that the class initializer, "+ (void)initialize)", only executes once per class. Here is the excerpt: Special Considerations initialize it is invoked only once per class. If you want to perform independent initialization for the class and for categories of the class, you should implement load methods. However, I'm getting a weird behavior on my project and the initializer is being executed twice. So I have to check if _classContext is null. I only got one class that has this method. What are the possible reasons why this is happening? I'm using XCode 4.5.2 and OS X 10.8.2. I got multiple iOS simulators, iPhone 5.1 and 6.0. + (void) initialize { num++; NSLog([NSString stringWithFormat:@"Times: %i", num]); if(_classContext == nil) _classContext = [[myClass alloc] init]; }

  • is there such a thing as xsl:fo reporting or xsl:fo simulation?

    - by topmulch
Hi, I am trying to determine if MY xsl:fo generated PDF file will exceed one page or not, without actually generating the output. We use Apache-FOP 0.95 on our server, and the XML data is being generated using a PHP DOMDocument class before being passed onto an XSL-FO template. My question: Are there PHP libraries out there that can simulate xsl:fo output and send me reports that I can use in my application? Alternatively, is there a way for the Apache FOP itself (or sibling Java app) that sends reports without actually generating a file? I have been reading the FOP documentation, and aside from some things I can not fully understand, I have not been able to find a way to do that from within FOP. Any advice is much appreciated.

  • Clojure load files

    - by Nate
I'm trying to set up a simple clojure project, and I'm not sure how to load files between the project. I'm sure that the answer is in the documentation, but I can't find a simple answer any where and I'm not sure where to look. Essentially, my directory looks like this: Clojure/ clojure/ clojure.jar other clojure files clojure-contrib/ clojure-contrib.jar other contrib files project/ main.clj utils.clj And I want main.clj to be something like this: (ns project.main (:require project.utils)) (greet) and utils.clj to be something like this: (ns project.utils) (defn greet [] (println "Hello, World!")) But that fails with: Exception in thread "main" java.io.FileNotFoundException: Could not locate project/utils__init.class or project/utils.clj on classpath: (main.clj:1) When I attempt to run it. How do you set up a simple clojure project?

  • Accessing the params hash for year and month rails and using in helper

    - by Matt
    So I took some php code and turned it into a calendar with a helper to make a simple calendar. I got my data from inside the helper: def calendar_maker a = Time.now b = a.month d = a.year h = Time.gm(d,b,1) #first day of month Now I want to try and do it with parameters within my method #from the helper file def calendar_maker(year, month) a = Time.now b = month c = year h = Time.gm(d,b,1) #first day of month #from my html.erb file <%= @month %> and <%= @year %> <%= params["month"] %><br /> <%= params["action"] %><br /> <%= params["year"] %><br /> <%= calendar_maker( @year, @month) %> #from controller file def calendar @month = params[:month] @year = params[:year] end Anyways mistakes were made and not finding documentation anywhere or not looking in the right place. How do I get this to work with my params hash. Thanks for the help.

  • how to use expressons as function parameters in powershell

    - by rmeador
This is a very simple task in every language I have ever used, but I can't seem to figure it out in PowerShell. An example of what I'm talking about in C: abs(x + y) The expression x + y is evaluated, and the result passed to abs as the parameter... how do I do that in PowerShell? The only way I have figured out so far is to create a temporary variable to store the result of the expression, and pass that. PowerShell seems to have very strange grammar and parsing rules that are constantly catching me by surprise, just like this situation. Does anyone know of documentation or a tutorial that explains the basic underlying theory of the language? I can't believe these are all special cases, there must be some rhyme or reason that no tutorial I have yet read explains. And yes, I've read this question, and all of those tutorials are awful. I've pretty much been relegated to learning from existing code.

  • Apache Shiro, INI-Configuration, Perms per URL: How to get URL params?

    - by Marcus Schultö
I want to use Apache Shiro[1] in my JSF-Application to perform URL-based authorization checks, configuration done in shiro.ini As I see in the Shiro-documentation[2] there is a way to use a "perms"-filter /remoting/rpc/** = authc, perms["remote:invoke"] In my scenario I want this functionality, but on entity-level[3], where the entity-Id is in the http-request # "Open settings for user with id=123": # /user/settings.xhtml?user_id=123 /user/settings.xhtml = perms["user:update:XXX"] So, how do I do this with Shiro? How to I tell the perms-filter to check for http-params? Or is this supposed to be done in my Realm-Implemenation, concrete by calling FacesContext? [1] https://shiro.apache.org [2] https://shiro.apache.org/web.html#Web-webini [3] This can be done at least programmatically: SecurityUtils.getSubject().isPermitted("printer:query:lp7200") https://shiro.apache.org/permissions.html

  • PNRP + dont see Global_ on Windows 7

    - by schmoopy
Hi, Im trying to test out PNRP in a simple app that either registers or resolves. On my Vista machine when i run 'netsh p2p pnrp cloud show list' .... I see Global_ When i try this from my Windows 7 machine i do not see Global_ i only have LinkLocal_... I can see i have an IPV6 address on the Windows 7 machine (via ipconfig) I may not just understand it enough yet - very poorly documented and most of the documentation is from Orca, 2007,etc. Makes me wonder if PNRP will just end up being another uddi.microsoft.com (i know they are nothing alike, but my point is...)

  • Wrong shortcut icons on the desktop and in the programs menu

    - by Zenya
When creating a program setup, I also put some documentation or readme files in it. However after the program is installed, I get wrong icons on the desktop and in the programs menu, as below: What I expected: I thought that for the registered file types (such as pdf, txt, doc, etc.) I don't need to set icons manually in the setup project. Am i wrong? As far as I know some other installers doesn't have such problem. Does anybody know how to fix this for Visual Studio? My environment is: Visual Studio 2005, C#, Windows XP Pro SP3

  • How can I simulate the effects of an observable collection in this situation?

    - by MGSoto
I am making a configuration editor for another application and am using reflection to pull editable fields from the configuration class. The following class is the base class for my various "DataTypeViewModels" and shows how I get and set the appropriate properties. public abstract class DataTypeViewModel<T> : ViewModelBase { Func<T> getFunction; Action<T> setAction; public const string ValuePropertyName = "Value"; public string Label { get; set; } public T Value { get { return getFunction.Invoke(); } set { if (getFunction.Invoke().Equals(value)) { return; } setAction.Invoke(value); // Update bindings, no broadcast RaisePropertyChanged(ValuePropertyName); } } /// <summary> /// Initializes a new instance of the StringViewModel class. /// </summary> public DataTypeViewModel(string sectionName, string label) { if (IsInDesignMode) { // Code runs in Blend --> create design time data. } else { Label = label; getFunction = new Func<T>(() => { return (T)Settings.Instance.GetType().GetProperty(sectionName).PropertyType. GetProperty(label).GetValue(Settings.Instance.GetType().GetProperty(sectionName).GetValue(Settings.Instance, null), null); }); setAction = new Action<T>(value => { Settings.Instance.GetType().GetProperty(sectionName).PropertyType.GetProperty(label). SetValue(Settings.Instance.GetType().GetProperty(sectionName).GetValue(Settings.Instance, null), value, null); }); } } } This part works the way I want it to, the next part is a sample DataTypeViewModel on a list of strings. public class StringListViewModel : DataTypeViewModel<ICollection<string>> { /// <summary> /// The <see cref="RemoveItemCommand" /> property's name. /// </summary> public const string RemoveItemCommandPropertyName = "RemoveItemCommand"; private RelayCommand<string> _removeItemCommand = null; public ObservableCollection<string> ObservableValue { get; set; } /// <summary> /// Gets the RemoveItemCommand property. /// TODO Update documentation: /// Changes to that property's value raise the PropertyChanged event. /// This property's value is broadcasted by the Messenger's default instance when it changes. /// </summary> public RelayCommand<string> RemoveItemCommand { get { return _removeItemCommand; } set { if (_removeItemCommand == value) { return; } var oldValue = _removeItemCommand; _removeItemCommand = value; // Update bindings, no broadcast RaisePropertyChanged(RemoveItemCommandPropertyName); } } /// <summary> /// The <see cref="AddItemCommand" /> property's name. /// </summary> public const string AddItemCommandPropertyName = "AddItemCommand"; private RelayCommand<string> _addItemCommand = null; /// <summary> /// Gets the AddItemCommand property. /// TODO Update documentation: /// Changes to that property's value raise the PropertyChanged event. /// This property's value is broadcasted by the Messenger's default instance when it changes. /// </summary> public RelayCommand<string> AddItemCommand { get { return _addItemCommand; } set { if (_addItemCommand == value) { return; } var oldValue = _addItemCommand; _addItemCommand = value; // Update bindings, no broadcast RaisePropertyChanged(AddItemCommandPropertyName); } } /// <summary> /// Initializes a new instance of the StringListViewModel class. /// </summary> public StringListViewModel(string sectionName, string label) : base(sectionName, label) { ObservableValue = new ObservableCollection<string>(Value); AddItemCommand = new RelayCommand<string>(param => { if (param != string.Empty) { Value.Add(param); ObservableValue.Add(param); } }); RemoveItemCommand = new RelayCommand<string>(param => { if (param != null) { Value.Remove(param); ObservableValue.Remove(param); } }); } } As you can see in the constructor, I currently have "Value" mirrored into a new ObservableCollection called "ObservableValue", which is then bound to by a ListView in the XAML. It works well this way, but cloning the List seems like such a hacky way to do this. While bound to Value, I've tried adding: RaisePropertyChanged("Value"); to the AddItemCommand and RemoveItemCommand, but this doesn't work, the ListView won't get updated. What is the proper way to do this?

  • Play bitmap animation list in reverse order?

    - by Ixx
I have a bitmap animation defined in XML, to open a door. I also need to animate closing the door, which contains the same frames but in reverse order. I don't want to create a second XML for this. The only reverse parameter I found in the documentation is related with repeating, and this doesn't apply, since I want the opening animation to finish when the door is closed and not continue to closing animation. I also found some threads about using a custom interpolator, but can I use / makes sense with a bitmap animation? How can I play the XML animation in reverse order?

  • cakephp why can't I have an admin route and a superuser route?

    - by Jack B Nimble
In core.php I can define Configure::write('Routing.admin', 'admin'); and /admin/controller/index will work. but if I define both Configure::write('Routing.admin', 'admin'); Configure::write('Routing.superuser', 'superuser'); and try to look at /superuser/blah/index/ instead of it saying the controller doesn't exist it says Error: SuperuserController could not be found. instead of saying Error: BlahController could not be found. When I first read the documentation I was under the impression I could run both routes, and not just one or the other. Is there something more I need to do?

  • MongoDB efficient dealing with embedded documents

    - by Sebastian Nowak
I have serious trouble finding anything useful in Mongo documentation about dealing with embedded documents. Let's say I have a following schema: { _id: ObjectId, ... data: [ { _childId: ObjectId // let's use custom name so we can distinguish them ... } ] } What's the most efficient way to remove everything inside data for particular _id? What's the most efficient way to remove embedded document with particular _childId inside given _id? What's the performance here, can _childId be indexed in order to achieve logarithmic (or similar) complexity instead of linear lookup? If so, how? What's the most efficient way to insert a lot of (let's say a 1000) documents into data for given _id? And like above, can we get O(n log n) or similar complexity with proper indexing? What's the most efficient way to get the count of documents inside data for given _id?

  • why is there different id syntax in the Android docs?

    - by darren
This page in the Android documentation defines an element id as follows: <TextView android:id="@+id/label" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Type here:" /> However this page defines it as: <EditText id="text" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:textColor="@color/opaque_red" android:text="Hello, World!" /> I thought I had a decent understanding of what was going on until I saw this second example. In the first case, you need the + character so that id 'label' is added to the R file, correct? In the second case, would the EditText's id not be added to the R file because it does not contain the + character? Also, the second example does not include the android namespace on the id. Does having or not having the Android namespace affect whether that id will be added to the R file? Thanks for any clarification.

  • Count of memory copies in *nix systems between packet at NIC and user application?

    - by Michael_73
Hi there, This is just a general question relating to some high-performance computing I've been wondering about. A certain low-latency messaging vendor speaks in its supporting documentation about using raw sockets to transfer the data directly from the network device to the user application and in so doing it speaks about reducing the messaging latency even further than it does anyway (in other admittedly carefully thought-out design decisions). My question is therefore to those that grok the networking stacks on Unix or Unix-like systems. How much difference are they likely to be able to realise using this method? Feel free to answer in terms of memory copies, numbers of whales rescued or areas the size of Wales ;) Their messaging is UDP-based, as I understand it, so there's no problem with establishing TCP connections etc. Any other points of interest on this topic would be gratefully thought about! Best wishes, Mike

  • CKEditor plugin: Hightlight selected text by hovering on a new item in the toolbar and selecting fro

    - by scottystang
I'm new to the CKEditor and I'm trying to create a simple plugin. What I'm hoping to accomplish is to allow the user to highlight some text and then hover on a new item in the toolbar that drops down on mouse over a few different highlight color options for the text. For example, the user could highlight some text, hover on my new item and then select a highlight color. This will be similar to the 'BGColor' plugin except instead of opening a color palette to choose from, the user would select from a drop down of options similar to when you choose to change the font size you have a list of options such as '10', '11', '12', etc. Any help would be appreciated on how to pull this off. I was hoping to check out how 'BGColor' and 'FontSize' plugins where implemented, but I can't find these in ../ckeditor/_source/plugins. Am I looking in the right spot? Also, the link for plugins here - http://docs.cksource.com/CKEditor_3.x/Developers_Guide isn't clickable so I'm not sure if there's a place for plugin documentation that I can check out.

  • Keeping connection to APNs open on App Engine using Modules in Go

    - by user3727820
I'm trying to implement iOS push notifications for a messageboard app I've written (so like notification for new message ect. ect.) but have no real idea where to start. Alot the current documentation seems to be out of date in regard to keeping persistent TLS connections open to the APNs from App Engine and links to articles about depreciated backends I'm using the Go runtime and just keep getting stuck. For instance, the creation of the socket connection to APNs requires a Context which can only be got from a HTTP request, but architecturally this doesn't seem to make a lot of sense because ideally the socket remains open regardless. Is there any clearer guides around that I'm missing or right now is it a better idea to setup a separate VPS or compute instance to handle it?
