• Adding a Jar to ext and using it in Eclipse

  I am providing a client with a lab station image for a school program. There is a library that I'd like to directly add to the JRE so that students can use the library without needing to fiddle with adding the classpath. As this is a basic after school program, the goal is to just get students into programming with as little overhead additions as possible. At this point, I have the lib put into the jre/lib/ext and Eclipse is able to find it, however it will not allow access to any of the classes. I see it in the JRE System Library and the classes and packages are showing up there but when I go to use it, I am getting an "Access restriction" error. When I remove the JRE System Library then add it back in, everything works swimmingly. The library is accessible exactly as intended. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

• Delete/move a UITableView row that's attached to a web service.

  Deleting or moving rows for a UITableView that is backed with local data (e.g., NSArray) is easy and instantaneous: Remove the value from the array. Call deleteRowsAtIndexPaths:withRowAnimation:. Profit! But my table view communicates with a web service, which means once the "Delete" button on that row gets tapped, I have to forward a request on to the server (via ASIHTTPRequest, of course), get the response, and then tell the table view to run its little delete-row animation, all with a few seconds of latency in between. From a high-level, what's the best way to do that? Throw some callback selector into ASIHTTPRequest's userInfo dictionary? KVO? Bonus points for some nice UI touch, like some kind of spinner on the soon-to-be-deleted cell.

• Eclipse - Ouline View - Turn Off Filtering

  Hi. I recently installed Eclipse on my new computer, and this installation somewhat filters the class members. I think it is somehow related to the Outline, but i couldn't find any settings related to it. The thing is that when i, for example, have an error in a method, and click on the little red square on the margin, eclipse shows me only that method, and nothing else. When i then click on the class name in the outline panel, eclipse shows me the class without import declarations. I can, of course, click on the import declarations in the outline panel, but then i get only them. When I want to jump to the declaration of some method by command-clicking that method's name, I again get only that method on the screen. It is really annoying. Can anyone please help me fix it?   Question With the following linq code snip I get a list of clients with address filtered by the specifications but the form of the entities returned is not what i had expected. The data is 1 client with 2 addresses and 1 client with 1 address. The query returns 3 rows of clients each with 1 address Client 1 = Address1 Client 1 = Address2 Client 2 = Address3 var query = from t1 in context.Clients.Where(specification.SatisfiedBy()).Include("ClientAddresses") join t2 in context.ClientAddresses.Where(spec.SatisfiedBy()) on t1.ClientKey equals t2.ClientKey select t1; My expectation was a little more like a list with only two clients in it, one client with a collection of two addresses and one client with a collection of one address. Client 1 = Address1 / Address2 Client 2 = Address3 What am I missing??? Thanks!

• Generic object load function for scala

  I'm starting on a Scala application which uses Hibernate (JPA) on the back end. In order to load an object, I use this line of code: val addr = s.load(classOf[Address], addr_id).asInstanceOf[Address]; Needless to say, that's a little painful. I wrote a helper class which looks like this: import org.hibernate.Session class DataLoader(s: Session) { def loadAddress(id: Long): Address = { return s.load(classOf[Address], id).asInstanceOf[Address]; } ... } So, now I can do this: val dl = new DataLoader(s) val addr = dl loadAddress(addr_id) Here's the question: How do I write a generic parametrized method which can load any object using this same pattern? i.e val addr = dl load[Address](addr_id) (or something along those lines.) I'm new to Scala so please forgive anything here that's especially hideous.

• How do I parse this JSON with jQuery?

  So I had this structure in xml and I was able to parse it successfully. Now what I have done is that I converted this xml into a JSON using www.xmltojson.org but I am not able to parse it . • HTML5 placing image where i want it on screen

  I have a little start screen running and i want the image, which is acting as a button, to placed at a certain point, but when i try to it stays in the same place, and i don't know how i can get it to stay in the place i want it.   In NHibernate you can map generics like this <class name="Units.Parameter`1[System.Int32], Units" table="parameter_int" > </class> But how can I map a class like this? Set<T> where T is a Parameter<int> like this Set<Parameter<int>> My mapping hbm.xml looking like this fails <class name="Set`1[[Units.Parameter`1[System.Int32], Units]],Units" table="settable"/> I simplified my mappings a little to get my point accross very clearly. Basically I want NHibernate to map generic class which has has generic type parameter. Want I understand from googling around is that NHibernate is not able to parse the name to the correct type in TypeNameParser.Parse() which result in the following error when adding the mapping to the configuration System.ArgumentException: Exception of type 'System.ArgumentException' was thrown. Parameter name: typeName@31 Anybody found a way around this limitation?

  I am quite new to TDD and am going with NUnit and Moq. I have got a method where I expect an exception, so I wanted to play a little with the frameworks features. • trying to set a dropdown in MVC

  I almost have this solved but need a little push. Here's what I have: In the database I have a field called active that is a bit field (True/False) I have placed a dropdownlist on the View form like this: <%= Html.DropDownList("lstActive", new SelectList((IEnumerable)ViewData["ActiveList"])) %> In my controller, I simply have this code to generate the True/False in the dropdown: List<string> activeList = new List<string>(); activeList.Add("True"); activeList.Add("False"); ViewData["ActiveList"] = new SelectList(activeList); I want to bind to the field in the database called active and select it in the dropdown. When I view it like this I get this: So the questions are these: Obviously I am not pointing to the Value and Text property but what is that in this case? And how do I select the value that is in the database? Any help would be appreciated.

  I'm needing to write a program (C#) that will allow the user to create generic formulas with variables and numbers. For example: D = A + (A - C / X)(7.8 - 6.6) F = E + (E - C / X)(7.8 - 6.6) FinalResult = (A + D)(0.9) + (E + F)(0.32) + B(0.1) + .023 where all variables would mean for me to go to a database and look something up based on values and return a number in its place. So A would be 2.12 for example (and the same for C and E) Whats the best way to structure this program? How would I make my program read these formulas? I've seen a little bit of the MathML but not sure how to get that started (or an example of it)

• How to know when the user touches the OK button of the last StoreKit alert "Thank you. Your purchase

  I have integrated "In App Purchase" in a game to let the user unlock more levels. Everything works fine, but I have a little problem with the last alert "Thank You. Your purchase was successful. [OK]". My program gets informed that the transaction was successfully completed before this last alert pops up and so my game starts running again - then the alert comes up, annoying the user. I would like to wait with my game running until the user touches the "OK" button, but since it is an alert from StoreKit I have no idea when this happens or how I could catch it. I don't want to create another dialog (this time my own, therefor under my control) below the alert, just asking for touching "OK" again - would be a bad user experience. Anybody have any ideas?

• Better alternatives to know whether a control is valid in javascript?

  I want to know whether a control is valid or not in javascript. Is there a direct client side API available in Asp.Net which can tell me whether a control is valid or not? Eg. If I have 2 validators attached to a textbox, I need a function that can tell me whether the textbox is valid or not. If even 1 validator is not valid then it should return false. I can't seem to find a function that can give me this. Here is a little helper that I wrote which does the job but is inefficient: function isControlValid(control) { for (i = 0; i < Page_Validators.length; i++) { var validator = Page_Validators[i]; var controlId = validator.controltovalidate; if ($(control).attr('id') == controlId && validator.isvalid == false) { return false; } } return true; } Anybody has any better alternatives?

• Windows development: x86 to x64 transition

  Hi everybody. Are there any guidelines how to transit to x64 with as little pain as possible? Suppose, I have a windows native x86 executable written in C++. The EXE works fine by itself, but there is also DLL that is hosted by both, the former EXE and an outside x64 process. With setup like this, what parts would I need to rewrite? I would appreciate a more general answer or maybe a link to a reference where some theoretical background is given. Thanks

  Hi, I have to complete a timer on powerpoint, it countsdown for a specificed amount of time when a shape on particular slide is clicked. I heard macros could be a way to do this, but I have very little knowledge about them. With my research I was able to add a macro and pop out a message box when a shape is clicked*. How can I implement a timer with this? VB syntax is pretty unfamiliar to me.   Hi, how do I insert a listener to Firefox http requests and responses, so that I popup a window with the address requested and the response body? Note: I have to do this building an extension to Firefox. I need a button to activate or disable the feature. For every request, I need to popup a window with an "Ok" button to allow the request to be made. Likewise, I need to popup a window with the response body from the web server, with an "Ok" button to allow the content to be displayed by the browser. I know that I have to use nsIHttpChannel, as shown here, but I don't know where to put such code on the extention's architecture. I have very little knowledge about javascript. Could anyone help me?

• Can an appdomain in C# be restricted to one directory?

  I am developing a plugin host. The plugins should have as little trust as they need, however I want to have the possibility for a plugin to read and write files. Can the AppDomain where the assembly will be loaded be restricted to have access to only one directory for reading and writing? Other options and ways to go about this are also appreciated like for example easy ways to stream file data from the host to the plugin (reading) and from the plugin to the host (writing). • Change web service url for a suds client on runtime (keeping the wsdl)

  Hi. First of all, my question is similar to this one But it's a little bit different. What we have is a series of environments, with the same set of services. For some environments (the local ones) we can get access to the wsdl, and thus generating the suds client. For external environment, we cannot access the wsdl. But being the same, I was hoping I can change just the URL without regenerating the client. I've tried cloning the client, but it doesn't work.

• How to give 'Everybody' full rights to a file (programmatically)

  I'm modifying an old C++ program to run on Vista. It does not require Admin privileges. I've changed the code to put logfiles in \ProgramData\MyApp\. These logfiles are written with the stdio functions (fopen, fprintf, fclose). Here's the problem: UserA runs the program first, it creates \ProgramData\MyApp\MyLogFile.txt UserB runs the program next, it tries to append to MyLogFile.txt and gets access denied. I tried creating a null SECURITY_DESCRIPTOR and passing that to CreateFile(). That does create a file with "no permissions assigned", but it seems as if the first user to write to the file takes ownership and afterwards all the other non-admin users are out of luck. It's important that all users share the same logfiles, but it's also important that I change as little code as possible.

• Need generated UML diagrams for C++ plugin modules

  I need various UML diagrams (sequence/collaboration, class, package, and system component) from some C++ files. However, these files are plugins in a larger programming framework. I have tried generating UML from Rational Rose 7 (2002 version), but I am not very experienced and I am unsure if RR simply cannot produce the diagram, I am doing something wrong, or the diagrams are not rendering correctly because the source files are plugins instead of standalone programs. I have also tried Star Modeler with little success and there seem to be no tutorials on how to generate these models. Is there a simple, bulletproof way to get UML diagrams for C++ files?

• WebBrowser.Navigate overload doesn't add cookies

  Hi guys, I'm experimenting with C#, and right now I'm trying to get a web page that needs cookies. Since I had no success doing it, I wrote this little PHP script ( directly from php.net): <?php foreach (getallheaders() as $name => $value) { echo "$name: $value\n"; } ?> but, when i run: this.WBro.Navigate("http://localhost/cookie.php", null,null,"Cookie: foo=bar"); the foo cookie isn't there, and all I got is a page displaying the "usual" headers ( except the cookie one). Does somebody has any idea of why this happens? Thanks a lot!

• Mono/C#: A good GUI toolkit ? looks good on KDE?

  Hi there, i am trying to get into developing for linux and i am a .net developer so i decided to give Mono a try. THe problem is that i am having problems trying to find a good gui toolkit. I have chosen KDE over GNOME because its a little bit more pleasing on the eye. I have looked here http://www.mono-project.com/Gui_Toolkits I get the sense GTK# is a good toolkit but its for GNOME. I know you can still run GNOME apps on KDE - but do they look nice ? probably not?? I would really appreciated any feedbakc from anyone who is doing the same or has done the same. I don't want to end up choosing the wrong toolkit and then have to change half way trhough. Also i was hoping to do all my development on my Windows PC and then just pass it to linux when i am ready... I presume this is possible? Thanks in advance

  Goal: building a web application where a user can: Upload a document (doc, docx, pdf, additional office formats a +) View that document in a browser, preferably in html Download the document (in doc, pdf, additional open formats a +) Current solution: Ruby on Rails Application on Rackspace Users can upload doc and pdf files (AWS) Files can be downloaded in the format in which they were uploaded Thumbnail generation ([doc, pdf] - pdf - png) is done through AbiWord. Certain doc files do not convert well. Documents can be viewed in embedded Google docs viewer (https://docs.google.com/viewer). Certain doc files cannot be displayed. Little flexibility. Potential improvements: Document viewing in pdf through pdf.js Viewing in html (+ annotation) through Crocodoc I'd be glad to hear other users' experiences, and will add good recommendations to this list.
