  • Correct way to make datasources/resources a deploy-time setting

    - by Draemon
I have a web-app that requires two settings: A JDBC datasource A string token I desperately want to be able to deploy one .war to various different containers (jetty,tomcat,gf3 minimum) and configure these settings at application level within the container. My code does this: InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext(); Context envCtx = (javax.naming.Context) ctx.lookup("java:comp/env"); token = (String)envCtx.lookup("token"); ds = (DataSource)envCtx.lookup("jdbc/datasource") Let's assume I've used the glassfish management interface to create two jdbc resources: jdbc/test-datasource and jdbc/live-datasource which connect to different copies of the same schema, on different servers, different credentials etc. Say I want to deploy this to glassfish with and point it at the test datasource, I might have this in my sun-web.xml: ... <resource-ref> <res-ref-name>jdbc/datasource</res-ref-name> <jndi-name>jdbc/test-datasource</jndi-name> </resource-ref> ... but sun-web.xml goes inside my war, right? surely there must be a way to do this through the management interface Am I even trying to do the right thing? Do other containers make this any easier? I'd be particularly interested in how jetty 7 handles this since I use it for development. EDIT Tomcat has a reasonable way to do this: Create $TOMCAT_HOME/conf/Catalina/localhost/webapp.xml with: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <Context antiResourceLocking="false" privileged="true"> <!-- String resource --> <Environment name="token" value="value of token" type="java.lang.String" override="false" /> <!-- Linking to a global resource --> <ResourceLink name="jdbc/datasource1" global="jdbc/test" type="javax.sql.DataSource" /> <!-- Derby --> <Resource name="jdbc/datasource2" type="javax.sql.DataSource" auth="Container" driverClassName="org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDataSource" url="jdbc:derby:test;create=true" /> <!-- H2 --> <Resource name="jdbc/datasource3" type="javax.sql.DataSource" auth="Container" driverClassName="org.h2.jdbcx.JdbcDataSource" url="jdbc:h2:~/test" username="sa" password="" /> </Context> Note that override="false" means the opposite. It means that this setting can't be overriden by web.xml. I like this approach because the file is part of the container configuration not the war, but it's not part of the global configuration; it's webapp specific. I guess I expect a bit more from glassfish since it is supposed to have a full web admin interface, but I would be happy enough with something equivalent to the above.

  • Django how to handle # in variable name.

    - by Jack
I've got a dictionary in python which is assigned as a template variable. One of the keys is named "#text" but when i try to access it using {{ artist.image.3."#text"}} I get an error which is File "/home/jack/Desktop/test/appengine/lib/django/django/template/__init__.py", line 558, in __init__ raise TemplateSyntaxError, "Could not parse the remainder: %s" % token[upto:] TemplateSyntaxError: Could not parse the remainder: "#text" So how can I use this in the template? I've tried putting quotes around it but to no avail. I'd like to not modify the dictionary if possible, but if its easy enough to do then I guess its okay. Thanks

  • Set default browser when debugging WPF?

    - by Albert Walker
I'm using VWD Express 2008 to develop a WPF Browser Application. When I start debugging, it launches the XBAP in my default browser, which is Opera. Obviously, XBAPs don't work in Opera, so I have to repeatedly right-click on the document to open in IE. Is there any way to change the settings for PresentationHost.exe so that it always opens with IE? A registry setting, perhaps?

  • How change Subversion's default binary mime-type?

    - by lamcro
Subversion sets a binary file's svn:mime-type property to application/octet-stream by default. I need to change this default to some other mime-type. When I import for the first time this code, I would like Subversion to set mime-type to the one I choose. The reason is that my code base contains code in binary files (proprietary format), and I have the applications necessary to emulate diff and diff3 for these. But Subversion does not let me due to their default mime-type. Please note: There is no default extension (*.jar, *.py, etc) for these code files. Some files don't even have an extension. So configuring mime-type by file extension is not possible.

  • Are any of these quad-tree libraries any good?

    - by Noctis Skytower
It appears that a certain project of mine will require the use of quad-trees, something that I have never worked with before. From what I have read they should allow substantial performance enhancements than a brute-force attempt at the problem would yield. Are any of these python modules any good? Quadtree 0.1.2 <= No: unable to execute in Python 3.1 QuadTree <= Yes: simple while working with rectangles quadtree.py <= No: no support for needed operations EDIT: Does anyone know of a better implementation that the one presented on the pygame wiki article?

  • Printing to STDOUT and log file while removing ANSI color codes

    - by Arrieta
I have the following functions for colorizing my screen messages: def error(string): return '\033[31;1m' + string + '\033[0m' def standout(string): return '\033[34;1m' + string + '\033[0m' I use them as follows: print error('There was a problem with the program') print "This is normal " + standout("and this stands out") I want to log the output to a file (in addition to STDOUT) WITHOUT the ANSI color codes, hopefully without having to add a second "logging" line to each print statement. The reason is that if you simply python program.py > out then the file out will have the ANSI color codes, which look terrible if you open in a plain text editor. Any advice?

  • SharePoint and Log4Net

    - by Nico
I'm looking for best practices to integrate log4net to SharePoint for web request, feature activation and all timer stuff. I have several subprojects in my farm, and I would like to have only one Log4Net.config file. [Edit] Not only I need to configure log4net for the web application, which is easy to do (I use global.asax, and a log4net.config file, so I can modify log settings withtout reloading the webapp), but I also need to log asynchronous events: Event Handler (like ItemAdded) Timer Jobs ...

  • Embedded QGraphicsView do not hide after Dialog closes

    - by torsten
I call a QDialog in to modes, showNormal and showFullscreen. In normal mode all works fine. With a Keyevent the Dialog closes as expected. In Fullscreen, after a keyevent the Dialog closes, but the QGraphicsView will stay on top. All things i've tried (like closing/updating the view) failed. the View sta on top. view = new QGraphicsView(scene); view->setViewport(new QGLWidget(QGLFormat(QGL::SampleBuffers))); view->setHorizontalScrollBarPolicy(Qt::ScrollBarAlwaysOff); view->setVerticalScrollBarPolicy(Qt::ScrollBarAlwaysOff); view->setViewportUpdateMode(QGraphicsView::FullViewportUpdate); view->setFrameStyle(QFrame::NoFrame); view->setBackgroundBrush(Qt::white); view->setRenderHints(QPainter::Antialiasing); view->setSceneRect(0,0,resolution.x(),resolution.y()); Maybe my structure will help to solve the Problem: This call the QDialog named GraphicsWidgetDialog. void DemoArrowDialog::setDemo() { gwd->graphicsWidget->setListenKeyEvents(true); gwd->setWindowTitle("Demo"); gwd->setFixedSize(500,500); gwd->restoreGeometry(settings); gwd->setContentsMargins(0,0,0,0); gwd->setModal(false); gwd->showNormal(); gwd->graphicsWidget->show(); gwd->setFocus(); } void DemoArrowDialog::setFullScreenDemo() { settings = gwd->saveGeometry(); gwd->graphicsWidget->setListenKeyEvents(true); gwd->setContentsMargins(0,0,0,0); gwd->setModal(true); gwd->graphicsWidget->showFullScreen(); gwd->showFullScreen(); gwd->setFocus(); } This is the Definition of the GraphicsWidgetDialog GraphicsWidgetDialog::GraphicsWidgetDialog(QWidget *parent) : QDialog(parent) { graphicsWidget = new GraphicsWidget; QGridLayout *layout = new QGridLayout; layout->addWidget(graphicsWidget); layout->setContentsMargins(0,0,0,0); graphicsWidget->loadConfig(); graphicsWidget->loadArrowConfig("Arrow"); graphicsWidget->setArrowPosition(arrowPosition(arrowCenter)); graphicsWidget->update(); setLayout(layout); connect(graphicsWidget,SIGNAL(closeEvent()),this,SLOT(reject())); } The GraphicsWidget is the Widget that contains the QGraphcisView and Scene On keyPessEvent it will emit the closeEvent(). Any Idea?

  • Python sys.argv lists and indexes

    - by Fred Gerbig
In the below code I understand that sys.argv uses lists, however I am not clear on how the index's are used here. def main(): if len(sys.argv) >= 2: name = sys.argv[1] else: name = 'World' print 'Hello', name if __name__ == '__main__': main() If I change name = sys.argv[1] to name = sys.argv[0] and type something for an argument it returns: Hello C:\Documents and Settings\fred\My Documents\Downloads\google-python-exercises \google-python-exercises\hello.py Which kind of make sense. Can someone explain how the 2 is used here: if len(sys.argv) >= 2: And how the 1 is used here: name = sys.argv[1]

  • How to accept localized date format (e.g dd/mm/yy) in a DateField on an admin form ?

    - by tomjerry
Is it possible to customize a django application to have accept localized date format (e.g dd/mm/yy) in a DateField on an admin form ? I have a model class : class MyModel(models.Model): date = models.DateField("Date") And associated admin class class MyModelAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin): pass On django administration interface, I would like to be able to input a date in following format : dd/mm/yyyy. However, the date field in the admin form expects yyyy-mm-dd. How can I customize things ? Nota bene : I have already specified my custom language code (fr-FR) in settings.py, but it seems to have no effect on this date input matter. Thanks in advance for your answer

  • [ADO.NET ERRROR]: CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'. An attempt to attach an au

Anyone seen this before? CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'. An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:\Documents and Settings\..\App_Data\HelloWorld.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. I'm asking on a friend's behalf. • How to auto-restart a python script on fail?

    - by norm
This post describes how to keep a child process alive in a BASH script: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/696839/how-do-i-write-a-bash-script-to-restart-a-process-if-it-dies This worked great for calling another BASH script. However, I tried executing something similar where the child process is a Python script: #!/bin/bash PYTHON=/usr/bin/python2.6 function myprocess { $PYTHON daemon.py start } NOW=$(date +"%b-%d-%y") until myprocess; do echo "$NOW Prog crashed. Restarting..." >> error.txt sleep 1 done Now the behaviour is completely different. It seems the python script is no longer a child of of the bash script but seems to have 'taken over' the BASH scripts PID - so there is no longer a BASH wrapper round the called script...why?

  • Make a compiled binary run at native speed flawlessly without recompiling from source on a another system?

    - by unknownthreat
I know that many people, at a first glance of the question, may immediately yell out "Java", but no, I know Java's qualities. Allow me to elaborate my question first. Normally, when we want our program to run at a native speed on a system, whether it be Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux, we need to compile from source codes. If you want to run a program of another system in your system, you need to use a virtual machine or an emulator. While these tools allow you to use the program you need on the non-native OS, they sometimes have problems of performance and glitches. We also have a newer compiler called "JIT Compiler", where the compiler will parse the bytecode program to native machine language before execution. The performance may increase to a very good extent with JIT Compiler, but the performance is still not the same as running it on a native system. Another program on Linux, WINE, is also a good tool for running Windows program on Linux system. I have tried running Team Fortress 2 on it, and tried experiment with some settings. I got ~40 fps on Windows at its mid-high setting on 1280 x 1024. On Linux, I need to turn everything low at 1280 x 1024 to get ~40 fps. There are 2 notable things though: Polygon model settings do not seem to affect framerate whether I set it low or high. When there are post-processing effects or some special effects that require manipulation of drawn pixels of the current frame, the framerate will drop to 10-20 fps. From this point, I can see that normal polygon rendering is just fine, but when it comes to newer rendering methods that requires graphic card to the job, it slows down to a crawl. Anyway, this question is rather theoretical. Is there anything we can do at all? I see that WINE can run STEAM and Team Fortress 2. Although there are flaws, they can run at lower setting. Or perhaps, I should also ask, "is it possible to translate one whole program on a system to another system without recompiling from source and get native speed?" I see that we also have AOT Compiler, is it possible to use it for something like this? Or there are so many constraints (such as DirectX call or differences in software architecture) that make it impossible to have a flawless and not native to the system program that runs at native speed?

  • MPI4Py Scatter sendbuf Argument Type?

    - by Noel
I'm having trouble with the Scatter function in the MPI4Py Python module. My assumption is that I should be able to pass it a single list for the sendbuffer. However, I'm getting a consistent error message when I do that, or indeed add the other two arguments, recvbuf and root: File "code/step3.py", line 682, in subbox_grid i = mpi_communicator.Scatter(station_range, station_data) File "Comm.pyx", line 427, in mpi4py.MPI.Comm.Scatter (src/ mpi4py_MPI.c:44993) File "message.pxi", line 321, in mpi4py.MPI._p_msg_cco.for_scatter (src/mpi4py_MPI.c:14497) File "message.pxi", line 232, in mpi4py.MPI._p_msg_cco.for_cco_send (src/mpi4py_MPI.c:13630) File "message.pxi", line 36, in mpi4py.MPI.message_simple (src/ mpi4py_MPI.c:11904) ValueError: message: expecting 2 or 3 items Here is the relevant code snipped, starting a few lines above 682 mentioned above. for station in stations #snip--do some stuff with station station_data = [] station_range = range(1,len(station)) mpi_communicator = MPI.COMM_WORLD i = mpi_communicator.Scatter(station_range, nsm) #snip--do some stuff with station[i] nsm = combine(avg, wt, dnew, nf1, nl1, wti[i], wtm, station[i].id) station_data = mpi_communicator.Gather(station_range, nsm) I've tried a number of combinations initializing station_range, but I must not be understanding the Scatter argument types properly. Does a Python/MPI guru have a clarification this?

Why does this line of code <TextBlock Text="{Binding Net, StringFormat=c}"/> Output the result as $xx.xx when all my regional settings are set to UK. I expect it to output it as £xx.xx. Any ideas? I have tried different variations of the stringformat including StringFormat={}{0:C} but still get the same result. Thanks for looking.
