• How to generate SPMetal for a specific list (OOTB: like tasks or contacts) with custom columns

  SPMetal is used to make use of LINQ on a list in SharePoint 2010. By default when you generate SPMetal on a site you will get a code generated file for most of the lists and probably more. Here is a MSDN link for some info on SPMetal.http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee538255(office.14).aspxBut what if you want only to generate the code for one list?Well it is quite simple once you figure it out. You need to add an xml file to override the default settings of SPMetal and specify it in the /parameters option. I will show you how to do this.First create a Folder that will contain two files (GenerateSPMetalCode.bat and SPMetal.xml).Below is the content of the files:GenerateSPMetalCode.bat "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\BIN\SPMetal" /web:http://YourServer /code:OutPutFileName.cs /language:csharp /parameters:SPMetal.xml pause SPMetal.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Web AccessModifier="Internal" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SharePoint/2009/spmetal"> <List Name="ListName"> <ContentType Name="ContentTypeName" Class="GeneratedClassName" /> </List> <ExcludeOtherLists></ExcludeOtherLists> </Web> You will have to change some of the text in the files so that it will be specific to your SharePoint Server Setup. The GeneratedClassName can be anything but perhaps you should rename it to something more sensible.Adding the following line: '<List Name="ListName"><ContentType Name="ContentTypeName" Class="GeneratedClassName" /> </List>'  makes sure that any custom columns added to an OOTB list like contacts or tasks are also generated, which are missed out in a regular generation.So now when you run it the SPMetal command will read the SPMetal.xml list and override its commands. ExcludeOtherLists element makes it so that only the code for the lists you specify will be generated. For some reason I got an error if I had this element above the List element.You sould now have a code file called OutPutFileName.cs that has been generated. You can now put this in your SharePoint project for use with your LINQ queries against that list.I will soon write a LINQ example that uses the generated class. UPDATE: Add the /namespace parameter to add a namespace to the generated code. I have created sitemap.xml and submitted it to Google using webmaster tool Yahoo/Bing using Bing Webmater Ask.com now since site will get updated every 2-3 times per week i am not sure what should be the best approach.   I shall start with an example. I want to restrict to POST requests only for http://path/to/logical/abc.xml and restrict to GET only for http://path/to/logical/def.xml. How do I put constraints like this as the paths are logical and location directive is not supported in .htaccess? The actual problem is to set different authentication type(basic, digest) on diff logical file.for eg. for abc.xml I want to authenticate for Basic type of authentication and def.xml with digest.

  I had some jobs to be moved from the old production server (windows 2003 server standard) to the new machine (windows 2008 server standard), but the new server is unable to read the old .job format, also the import wizard only imports from .xml job files (same version). Obviously I don't want to rebuild all the jobs by hand, but can't find a tool that makes the process a very little easier. I don't trust in Microsoft for this kind of tools, my previously experiences had been to bad (DTS - SSIS). Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

• How many xml http requests is too much for a pc to handle?

  I'm running mediawiki on an apache on a regular pc running vista (don't know the specific specs, but I'm guessing at least duo core 2 2 giga hertz processor, broadband connection (500 kb/s at least, probably 1 mega). I want to use the MediaWiki api to send a lot of requests to this server. Most of the time the requests will be sent through LAN (but sometimes through the internet). I'm talking thousands of requests every few seconds at worst case. (A lot of these requests may repeat themselves, I guess some sort of cache would help) Will the server handle this, or do I need a stronger/dedicated computer? (I'm not looking for specific yes/no, but just want to get an idea as to what configuration of computer will support how many request per second) Thanks

UPDATE: I think I got the problem (still don't know why) - Whenever I extends AbstractTestNGSpringContextTests or AbstractTransactionalTestNGSpringContextTests, the test will failed with this error: Failed tests: springTestContextBeforeTestMethod(org.sonatype.mavenbook.simple.AppTest) springTestContextAfterTestMethod(org.sonatype.mavenbook.simple.AppTest) So, eventually the error went away when I override the two methods. I don't think this is the right way, didn't find much info from spring-test doc. If you know spring test framework, please shred some light on this.

• Has glassfish 2.1.1 a bug handling http request and handle them twice?

  I'm using glassfish 2.1.1. I've watched a mysterious http/webservice-call handling. It seams an http request is handled by two different threads. After http basic authentication the first thread is faster. Persisting some data end, but writing response fails in glassfish internal. The second thread fails, because it tries to persist identical data and there are (unique) constrain failures. The response (the failure) of second thread was delivered to client. I don't won't discuss the behavior with the unique constrain failure. I've improve the webservice, so it can handle this better, because it could be happen anytime, that the client send the ws call a second time. But I think, glassfish 2.1.1 has an bug handling http request. Is there any known issue? Have I done an mistake? • Setting up a VPN connection to Amazon VPC - routing

  I am having some real issues setting up a VPN between out office and AWS VPC. The "tunnels" appear to be up, however I don't know if they are configured correctly. The device I am using is a Netgear VPN Firewall - FVS336GV2 If you see in the attached config downloaded from VPC (#3 Tunnel Interface Configuration), it gives me some "inside" addresses for the tunnel. When setting up the IPsec tunnels do I use the inside tunnel IP's (e.g. 169.254.254.2/30) or do I use my internal network subnet (10.1.1.0/24) I have tried both, when I tried the local network (10.1.1.x) the tracert stops at the router. When I tried with the "inside" ips, the tracert to the amazon VPC (10.0.0.x) goes out over the internet. this all leads me to the next question, for this router, how do I set up stage #4, the static next hop? What are these seemingly random "inside" addresses and where did amazon generate them from? 169.254.254.x seems odd? With a device like this, is the VPN behind the firewall? I have tweaked any IP addresses below so that they are not "real". I am fully aware, this is probably badly worded. Please if there is any further info/screenshots that will help, let me know. The VGW will then send traffic towards your internal network over the tunnels. EDIT #1 After writing this post, I continued to fiddle and something started to work, just not very reliably. The local IPs to use when setting up the tunnels where indeed my network subnets. Which further confuses me over what these "inside" IP addresses are for. The problem is, results are not consistent what so ever. I can "sometimes" ping, I can "sometimes" RDP using the VPN. Sometimes, Tunnel 1 or Tunnel 2 can be up or down. When I came back into work today, Tunnel 1 was down, so I deleted it and re-created it from scratch. Now I cant ping anything, but Amazon AND the router are telling me tunnel 1/2 are fine. I guess the router/vpn hardware I have just isnt up to the job..... EDIT #2 Now Tunnel 1 is up, Tunnel 2 is down (I didn't change any settings) and I can ping/rdp again. • Adding and accessing custom sections in your C# App.config

  So I recently thought I’d try using the app.config file to specify some data for my application (such as URLs) rather than hard-coding it into my app, which would require a recompile and redeploy of my app if one of our URLs changed.  By using the app.config it allows a user to just open up the .config file that sits beside their .exe file and edit the URLs right there and then re-run the app; no recompiling, no redeployment necessary. I spent a good few hours fighting with the app.config and looking at examples on Google before I was able to get things to work properly.  Most of the examples I found showed you how to pull a value from the app.config if you knew the specific key of the element you wanted to retrieve, but it took me a while to find a way to simply loop through all elements in a section, so I thought I would share my solutions here.   Simple and Easy The easiest way to use the app.config is to use the built-in types, such as NameValueSectionHandler.  For example, if we just wanted to add a list of database server urls to use in my app, we could do this in the app.config file like so: 1: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> 2: <configuration> 3: <configSections> 4: <section name="ConnectionManagerDatabaseServers" type="System.Configuration.NameValueSectionHandler" /> 5: </configSections> 6: <startup> 7: <supportedRuntime version="v4.0" sku=".NETFramework,Version=v4.5" /> 8: </startup> 9: <ConnectionManagerDatabaseServers> 10: <add key="localhost" value="localhost" /> 11: <add key="Dev" value="Dev.MyDomain.local" /> 12: <add key="Test" value="Test.MyDomain.local" /> 13: <add key="Live" value="Prod.MyDomain.com" /> 14: </ConnectionManagerDatabaseServers> 15: </configuration>   And then you can access these values in code like so: 1: string devUrl = string.Empty; 2: var connectionManagerDatabaseServers = ConfigurationManager.GetSection("ConnectionManagerDatabaseServers") as NameValueCollection; 3: if (connectionManagerDatabaseServers != null) 4: { 5: devUrl = connectionManagerDatabaseServers["Dev"].ToString(); 6: }   Sometimes though you don’t know what the keys are going to be and you just want to grab all of the values in that ConnectionManagerDatabaseServers section.  In that case you can get them all like this: 1: // Grab the Environments listed in the App.config and add them to our list. 2: var connectionManagerDatabaseServers = ConfigurationManager.GetSection("ConnectionManagerDatabaseServers") as NameValueCollection; 3: if (connectionManagerDatabaseServers != null) 4: { 5: foreach (var serverKey in connectionManagerDatabaseServers.AllKeys) 6: { 7: string serverValue = connectionManagerDatabaseServers.GetValues(serverKey).FirstOrDefault(); 8: AddDatabaseServer(serverValue); 9: } 10: }   And here we just assume that the AddDatabaseServer() function adds the given string to some list of strings.  So this works great, but what about when we want to bring in more values than just a single string (or technically you could use this to bring in 2 strings, where the “key” could be the other string you want to store; for example, we could have stored the value of the Key as the user-friendly name of the url).   More Advanced (and more complicated) So if you want to bring in more information than a string or two per object in the section, then you can no longer simply use the built-in System.Configuration.NameValueSectionHandler type provided for us.  Instead you have to build your own types.  Here let’s assume that we again want to configure a set of addresses (i.e. urls), but we want to specify some extra info with them, such as the user-friendly name, if they require SSL or not, and a list of security groups that are allowed to save changes made to these endpoints. The last class defined is the actual meat of our elements.  It inherits from ConfigurationElement and specifies the properties of the element (which can then be set in the xml of the App.config).  The “ConfigurationProperty” attribute on each of the properties tells what we expect the name of the property to correspond to in each element in the app.config, as well as some additional information such as if that property is required and what it’s default value should be. • Getting JAX-WS client work on Weblogic 9.2 with ant

  I've recently had lots of issues trying to deploy a JAX-WS web servcie client on Weblogic 9.2. It turns out there is no straightforward guide on how to achieve this, so I decided to put together this short wiki entry hoping it might be useful for others. Firstly, Weblogic 9.2 does not support web servcies using JAX-WS in general. It comes with old versions of XML-related java libraries that are incompatible with the latest JAX-WS (similar issues occur with Axis2, only Axis1 seems to be working flawlessly with Weblogic 9.x but that's a very old and unsupported library). So, in order to get it working, some hacking is required. This is how I did it (note that we're using ant in our legacy corporate project, you probably should be using maven which should eliminate 50% of those steps below): Download the most recent JAX-WS distribution from https://jax-ws.dev.java.net/ (The exact version I got was JAXWS2.2-20091203.zip) Place the JAX-WS jars with the dependencies in a separate folder like lib/webservices. Create a patternset in ant to reference those jars: Include the patternset in your WAR-related goal. This could look something like: (not the flatten="true" parameter - it's important as Weblogic 9.x is by default not smart enough to access jars located in a different lcoation than WEB-INF/lib inside your WAR file) In case of clashes, Weblogic uses its own jars by default. We want it to use the JAX-WS jars from our application instead. This is achieved by preparing a weblogic-application.xml file and placing it in META-INF folder of the deplotyed EAR file. It should look like this: javax.jws. javax.xml.bind. javax.xml.crypto. javax.xml.registry. javax.xml.rpc. javax.xml.soap. javax.xml.stream. javax.xml.ws. com.sun.xml.api.streaming.* Remember to place that weblogic-application.xml file in your EAR! The ant goal for that may look similar to: <jar destfile="${warfile}" basedir="${wardir}"/> <ear destfile="${earfile}" appxml="resources/${app.name}/application.xml"> <fileset dir="${dist}" includes="${app.name}.war"/> <metainf dir="resources/META-INF"/> </ear> Also you need to tell weblogic to prefer your WEB-INF classes to those in distribution. You do that by placing the following lines in your WEB-INF/weblogic.xml file: true And that's it for the weblogic-related configuration. Now only set up your JAX-WS goal. The one below is going to simply generate the web service stubs and classes based on a locally deployed WSDL file and place them in a folder in your app: Remember about the keep="true" parameter. Without it, wsimport generates the classes and... deletes them, believe it or not! For mocking a web service I suggest using SOAPUI, an open source project. Very easy to deploy, crucial for web servcies intergation testing. We're almost there. The final thing is to write a Java class for testing the web service, try to run it as a standalone app first (or as part of your unit tests) And then try to run the same code from withing Weblogic. It should work. It worked for me. After some 3 days of frustration. And yes, I know I should've put 9 and 10 under a single bullet-point, but the title "10 steps to deploy a JAX-WS web service under Web logic 9.2 using ant" sounds just so much better.   Hello, I am trying to use JAAS to authenticate my users. My project is in GWT v2, which runs jetty. I use eclipse for development. From http://code.google.com/p/google-web-toolkit/issues/detail?id=4462 I found out that jetty doesn't like any realm definitions in web.xml, so I moved them to jetty-web.xml. • Unable to set password in IIS 8 for Domain User as ApplicationPool Identity

  I'm trying to set a Domain User account as ApplicationPool Identity in IIS 8 (Windows 2012). When trying this using the IIS Management Console I always get an error: Value does not fall within the expected range. When trying to set the identity using appcmd.exe it fails on both the command setting the username and password or the command only setting the password. Setting the username is no problem. • Do we need to explicitly pass php.ini's location to php-fpm?

  I am seeing a strange issue where my php.ini is not used if I do not explicitly pass it to php-fpm when starting it. This is the upstart script I am using: start on (filesystem and net-device-up IFACE=lo) stop on runlevel [016] pre-start script mkdir -p /run/php end script expect fork respawn exec /usr/local/php/sbin/php-fpm --fpm-config /etc/php/php-fpm.conf If PHP is started with the above, my php.ini is never used, even though it is in Configuration File (php.ini) Path. This is the relevant part from phpinfo(): Configuration File (php.ini) Path /etc/php/ Loaded Configuration File (none) Scan this dir for additional .ini files (none) Additional .ini files parsed (none) If I modify the last line of the upstart script to point php-fpm to php.ini explicitly: exec /usr/local/php/sbin/php-fpm --fpm-config /etc/php/php-fpm.conf -c /etc/php/php.ini Then we see that the php.ini is loaded: Configuration File (php.ini) Path /etc/php/ Loaded Configuration File /etc/php/php.ini Scan this dir for additional .ini files (none) Additional .ini files parsed (none) Why is this the case? Is this a quirk in php-fpm? Minor update: This also seems to be a problem for php5-fpm installed using apt-get. I did a test install in a Ubuntu Server 12.04 virtual machine by running the following: sudo apt-get install nginx php5-fpm PHP-FPM and nginx were started after installation and everything seemed fine. I then uncommented php's settings in nginx's configuration and placed a test phpinfo() file to inspect PHP's settings. The relevant bits are: Configuration File (php.ini) Path /etc/php5/fpm Loaded Configuration File (none) Scan this dir for additional .ini files /etc/php5/fpm/conf.d Additional .ini files parsed /etc/php5/fpm/conf.d/10-pdo.ini I noted that no php.ini was loaded either. However, if I go to /etc/php5/fpm, I can see that a php.ini exists. I also checked the start up scripts for PHP-FPM and the -c parameter was not used to link the ini file to PHP. This can potentially be confusing for people who would expect php.ini to be loaded automatically by PHP-FPM.

• Code to update HyperV Export file

  I am using the HyperV Module from Codeplex to do a "config only" export from a 2008R2 Hyper-V server. In order to import the configuration on another HyperV server, I need to edit the value of CopyVMStorage in the EXP file. This file is an XML file. I wrote the following code in PowerShell to do the update for me. The variable $existing is the existing exp file. $xml = [xml](get-content $existing) $xpath = '//PROPERTY[@NAME ="CopyVmStorage"]' foreach ($node in $xml.SelectNodes($xpath)) {$node.Value = 'TRUE'} $xml.Save($existing) This code makes the correct changes to the XML. However, when I go to import the file on the Hyper-V server, I get an error that says the file format is incorrect. I am wondering if the encoding of the file is incorrect or if there is something else going on. If I edit the file manually in wordpad, it imports without an issue. The filename is a GUID with a .exp extension, and it appears that the file name is too long for notepad to open. Notepad throws an error trying to open the file, which is why I went with WordPad. I have noticed that the file that is updated with PowerShell comes out formatted whereas the raw file is xml all bunched together with no whitespace. Any ideas on what "file format" means in this HyperV error message and how I might be able to use my code to automate this change in the XML without changing the file format?

• File Server Resource Manager attempting to access quota.xml on System Reserved partition?

  I've got a new install of Server 2008 R2 that is designed to be our quota server for user home directories and shared areas. I installed FSRM and set up a few quotas to try out. They worked fine but at some point over the weekend it's stopped loading the FSRM console quota screen and gives the following error, with Event ID 8228: File Server Resource Manager was unable to access the following file or volume: '\\?\Volume{73649de6-7f04-11e1-a344-005056b10310}\System Volume Information\SRM\quota.xml'. This file or volume might be locked by another application right now, or you might need to give Local System access to it. I have removed and reinstalled the FSRM Role Service, cleared the \System Volume Information\SRM folder on each volume and am at the verge of just starting again. I'd rather not since then I have to go through and set up all my NTFS permissions again. Since it looks like the service is trying to access the System Reserved partition, which I assume won't have any files it could possibly need, how do I remove System Reserved partition as a volume to be monitored for the quota service? (I am not aware of configuring that to be the case originally though!)
