  • Dedicated server not responding. Malicious?

    - by user2801881
My Dedicated server dies for days on end. As soon as i reboot after about 20 seconds it does again. Then it will just work again and be fine for another week or so. Im convinced its malicious. Not sure what results or readings i can give you so just ask and i will do whatever is needed. netstat (top 20 connections) 7 79.142.88.250 8 120.202.249.19 8 159.226.21.62 8 188.168.38.102 8 202.114.6.37 8 222.62.207.70 9 60.191.35.42 10 112.124.46.186 10 116.228.55.184 10 181.133.218.11 10 222.90.111.146 11 183.136.146.110 12 124.127.51.135 12 92.225.24.24 13 221.176.23.242 15 119.10.115.165 16 17 218.6.224.66 21 116.228.55.217 24 114.112.194.19 top CPU usage seems to add up to about 10% Mailq is empty Thanks in advance

  • What's wrong with Lotus Notes / Lotus Domino?

    - by user20242
I have a client who is using Lotus Domino for their web application/server platform. The client has two "web developers" who are more comfortable with Lotus Domino than more mainstream tools and technologies and are not enthusiastic about making a switch. I have been asked to provide an assessment of why it may be prudent to migrate to a different web application platform. I would be particularly interested in understanding deficiencies related to the platform as I have very little knowledge of Domino but am very familiar with other platforms. In addition to the fact that Apache has over 70% of web server market, IIS over 21%, and Lotus almost 0%, what other reasons would you give for moving away from this platform?

  • Authenticating Linux users against AD without Likewise Open

    - by Graeme Donaldson
Has anyone got their Linux systems authenticating against Active Directory without using Likewise Open? We are close to implementing Likewise Open, but first we need to rename roughly 70 of 110 Linux servers so that their hostnames are not longer than 15 characters. This is required because Likewise Open actually joins the Linux computer to the domain, and it fails to do so if the hostname is too long due to some legacy NetBIOS naming limitation. Is there a way to authenticate via AD, using only LDAP perhaps? What are the advantages/disadvantages over doing it like that vs just using Likewise?

  • cygWin connect by SSH using RSA key; ssh.exe couldn't create /home/user/.ssh

    - by Kirzilla
Hello, I'm using Win XP and I'm trying to connect by SSH to remote host using RSA key. I've investigated that cygWin recognizes Documents and Settings dir as home directory Z:\app\cwRsync\bin>cygpath -H /cygdrive/c/Documents and Settings I've created .ssh directory in Documents and Settings/user/.ssh and moved known_hosts, id_rsa, id_rsa.pub there. Now, I'm trying to connect via ssh.exe to remote host Z:\app\cwRsync\bin>ssh -p 22 [email protected] Could not create directory '/home/user/.ssh'. The authenticity of host '[remotehost.com]:22 ([remotehost.com]:22)' can't be established. RSA key fingerprint is f7:f4:2c:e0:c6:7e:d2:a4:45:70:63:df:bf:f2:84:46. Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? What I'm doing wrong? Why ssh.exe couldn't create directory /home/user/.ssh? Thank you.

  • Upgraded from fc10 to fc12 now I have eth0_rename, how do I get back to plain old eth0?

    - by shank
I upgraded from Fedora 10 to Fedora 12. Unfortunately, my ethernet interface eth0 is now named eth0_rename. I'd like to get back to having it named plain old eth0. I googled a bit but the solution of removing the eth0 entry from /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules seems to have no effect (I restarted the network service but didn't reboot). The interface works just fine although I could see a script or two having a problem with the format. So, it's more of an inconvenience thing than anything else. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • NTFS disk mounted as fuseblk in ubuntu 12.10 is very slow and a lot of errors when rsync. Is that not a rare thing?

    - by Pablo Marin-Garcia
I am having problems with a NTFS disk mounted as a fuseblk in my ubuntu 12.10 through external usb3. When I did a 1.1TB backup with rsync the speed was 1-2MB/s (wiht a ext4 disk speed was 70 MB/s before and after trying the NTFS disk). Also after one hour errors started to appear: rsync: write failed on "xxx": No such file or directory recv_files: "yyy" is a directory #but this file is a FILE not a dir ??!! .... As this is the first time I have mounted the NTFS in linux for heavy usage (the data would be used in windows afterwards), I would like to know if this kind of thinks are common o was only that something became unstable in my system and a simply restart would probably have solved it. This leads me to the these questions: Can I trust fuse for manage NTFS disks? Or is a problem of the NTFS tools in linux not yet totally stables for writing? Do people is still suffering from low performance with fuse-NTFS vs ext4 (in the past I have read about people complaining about this)?

  • Can't connect to Apple Time Capsule in home network using Home Plugs from Win 7 Machine

    - by Eugene
I have the following home network setup with subnet 255.255.255.0 but recently moved my time capsule to a different location when I added a third Home Plug and can no longer ping or map a network drive to it from the Windows 7 Machine. However using Airport Utility on the Windows 7 machine I can manually configure the Time Capsule. Using a Macbook on WIFI Network 1 or 2 - I can backup to the time capsule, so its accessible via both the router wifi network and the time capsule wifi network. The Time Capsule is set to BRIDGE function - ie no NAT or DHCP server enabled. Any bright sparks out there that can help diagnose the problem? • SOHO NETGEAR wireless router disconnects when downloading torrents

    - by Lirik
I have a NETGEAR WGT624 wireless router at home which dies when there is a heavy torrent load. I open up my torrent client and it downloads for about 5 to 10 minutes and it continues to increase the number of seeds (goes up to 70-80 seeds), but after that the router simply fails and I have to restart it in order to get an internet connection again. When I connect directly via an ethernet cable the router and open up the torrent client, then it seems to be doing fine, but when I go wireless then the router stops working properly (although all the lights are still blinking as normal). Is there any way that I can fix this? New router firmware? Change some router options? Feed it a cookie? Anything?

  • How to generate a round-numbers graph in Excel?

    - by tcheregati
folks! Now, I have an Excel file with measurements I made of some color patches (I work at a Press company), with a device called spectrophotometer. Here it is: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B0i8fdSf2ihzRlFYNWd4anItenM Density and Hue are two characteristics of each color patch. The thing is: I'm looking at a non-linear increase between the 25 Color Density measurements I took, but I NEED to know exactly how the color's Hue changes as the color's Density increases. For that, I needed Excel to give me round numbers for the X axis (for example 0,70 to 1,50 in 0,05 increments). And for that, obviously, I needed Excel to calculate the probable Hue Values corresponding to those ghost/round/not-given values of Density (like a kind of advanced rule of three). So, can anyone help me on that? Thanks a lot!

  • Replacing a W2K3 Domain Controller - what do I need to know?

    - by Marko Carter
I have a network of around 70 machines, currently with two DCs both running Windows Server 2003 (DC0 & DC1). DC0 is a five year old Poweredge 1850 and has recently become increasingly flakey, and in the past fortnight has fallen over twice. I want to replace this machine, but I'm cautious as there is huge scope for this sort of thing to go wrong. The way I imagine doing this is building a new machine then doing a DCPROMO and running three domain controllers for a month or so until I'm happy that everything is working as it should be before retiring the old machine. Particular areas of concern are the replication of roles from the current controllers (GP settings for instance) and the ramifications of switching off the machine that has, up until now, been the 'primary'. If there are compelling reasons to use Server 2008 I'm willing to do so, however I don't know if this would cause problems with my exisiting 2003 machines. Any advice on best practice or previous experiences would be most welcome.

  • Flash player, HD videos and games are choppy

    - by Aimad Majdou
I have a problem with flash player. HD videos from Youtube or Vimeo and flash games do not play smoothly. I'm using Flash player 11, Windows 7 Sp1, and my graphic card is Intel GMA 4500. Device Manager shows me that all drivers are installed on my computer, so i don't have any problems with drivers. When I run Google chrome, Resource Monitor shows me 15% ~ 40 % of CPU Usage and 40% used Physical Memory, but when I watch a video on Youtube or play a Flash game, the Resource Monitor shows 70% - 90% CPU Usage. Also, when I run some HD Video (Frame width : 1920, Frame height : 1080) on my computer, Device Manager shows me 80% ~ 100% of CPU Usage. before I Reinstall Windows 7, HD Videos and flash games were play smoothly I hadn't any problem with them !! I hope all these informations are enough to answer my question.

  • aligning truecrypt partition on 1.5TB 4kB sector drive

    - by pQd
hi, aligning partitions to start at real physical sector of ssds / stripped raids / 4kB drives is a 'good thing to do'. but i've run into a problems when trying to do it for a truecrypt partition that will contain ext3 on it. or so it seems. when drive is question is partitioned properly and formatted with ext3 i get very reasonable write speeds around 70-80MB/s, but when i put truecrypt and ext3 on the top of it write performance becomes very unstable and goes between 1-25MB/s with very high io-wait. on the same server i dont have any performance issues with ext3 on the top of truecrypt on regular 512B-sector 500GB sata disks. so my best guess is that iowaits are caused by misalignment but i cannot really find reliable information on how to calculate optimal partition beginning. i've tried to start it at 128 logical sector, i've also tried 8132 sector as suggested here but both gave me very bad and unstable performance. do you have any experience with similar setup? thanks!

  • How can I set the fan speed to 100% on a laptop?

    - by Codemonkey
I recently purchased a HP Pavilion dv7-4031. When it's cool, it works smoothly and efficiently. However when CPU and GUP temperatures reach 60c and above, the PC starts freezing up and stuttering. I can hear that the fan speeds steadily increase all the way up to 70-80c. This is what pisses me off: I want the fan speeds to run 100% all the time, perhaps preventing the high temperatures in the first place. The way it is now, fan speeds only increase to keep internal temperatures at above 60c. I've searched all over for any sort of speed control, finding nothing. Any help appreciated. I have tried Speedfan. In "Fans" there is nothing listed. I took that as a bad sign. The BIOS is pathetic, and only has 4 or 5 changeable settings, including "Quickstart" and "Boot order"

  • Route traffic on vpn to another interface on an ASA 5510

    - by Dave
I have a ASA 5510 that has about 60-70 vpn tunnels. I have four interfaces on the device: 1)External, 2)192.168.1.0, 3)192.168.2.0, 4) 192.168.3.0 A VPN tunnel is configured from the remote site (192.168.200.0) to the 192.168.2.0 subnet on the ASA. I have remote applications I would like the users at the remote site to be able to access which are hosted on the 192.168.3.0 subnet. I can route traffic between the subnets that are located on the ASA. Any way I can route traffic from the remote site to the 192.168.3.0?

  • IPTables masquerading with one NIC

    - by Tuinslak
Hi, I am running an OpenVPN server with only one NIC. This is my current layout: public.ip > Cisco firewall > lan.ip > OpenVPN server lan.ip = 192.168.22.70 The Cisco firewall forwards the requests to the oVPN server, thus so far everything works and clients are able to connect. However, all clients connected should be able to access 3 networks: lan1: 192.168.200.0 (vpn lan) > tun0 lan2: 192.168.110.0 (office lan) > eth1 (gw 192.168.22.1) lan3: 192.168.22.0 (server lan) > eth1 (broadcast network) So tun0 is mapped to eth1. Iptables output: # iptables-save # Generated by iptables-save v1.4.2 on Wed Feb 16 14:14:20 2011 *filter :INPUT ACCEPT [327:26098] :FORWARD DROP [305:31700] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [291:27378] -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -i tun0 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -i ! tun0 -p udp -m udp --dport 67 -j REJECT --reject-with icmp-port-unreachable -A INPUT -i ! tun0 -p udp -m udp --dport 53 -j REJECT --reject-with icmp-port-unreachable -A FORWARD -d 192.168.200.0/24 -i tun0 -j DROP -A FORWARD -s 192.168.200.0/24 -i tun0 -j ACCEPT -A FORWARD -d 192.168.200.0/24 -i eth1 -j ACCEPT COMMIT # Completed on Wed Feb 16 14:14:20 2011 # Generated by iptables-save v1.4.2 on Wed Feb 16 14:14:20 2011 *nat :PREROUTING ACCEPT [302:26000] :POSTROUTING ACCEPT [3:377] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [49:3885] -A POSTROUTING -o eth1 -j MASQUERADE COMMIT # Completed on Wed Feb 16 14:14:20 2011 Yet, clients are unable to ping any ip (including 192.168.200.1, which is the oVPN's IP) When the machine was directly connected to the internet, with 2 NICs, it was quite simply solved with masquerading and adding static routes in the oVPN client's config. However, as masquerading won't accept virtual interfaces (eth0:0, etc) I am unable to get masquerading to work again (and I'm not even sure whether I need virtual interfaces). Thanks. • Why does 1GBit card have output limited to 80 MiB ?

    - by Gallus
I'm trying to utilize maximal bandwidth provided by my 1GiB network card, but it's always limited to 80MiB (real megabytes). What can be the reason? Card description (lshw output): description: Ethernet interface product: DGE-530T Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (rev 11) vendor: D-Link System Inc physical id: 0 bus info: pci@0000:03:00.0 logical name: eth1 version: 11 serial: 00:22:b0:68:70:41 size: 1GB/s capacity: 1GB/s width: 32 bits clock: 66MHz capabilities: pm vpd bus_master cap_list rom ethernet physical tp 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd 1000bt 1000bt-fd autonegotiation The card is placed in following PCI slot: *-pci:2 description: PCI bridge product: 82801 PCI Bridge vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 1e bus info: pci@0000:00:1e.0 version: 92 width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pci subtractive_decode bus_master cap_list The PCI isn't any PCI Express right? It's a legacy PCI slot? So maybe this is the reason? OS is a linux.

  • Need to hookup HP dv7-3085dx with Nvidia GeForce GT 230M to my Dell 30 inch LCD 3007WFP at max resol

    - by user14660
I recently bought an HP laptop (dv7-3085dx) (http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/hp-pavilion-dv7-3085dx/4505-3121_7-33776108.html) which is supposed to have a pretty good video card (NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M). The card is supposed to output a max resolution of 2560x1600 which is also the max resolution of my monitor (http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2006/02/dell_3007wfp_on_dell_2001fp_action_8_megapixel_desktop.html). Now I bought an HDMI to dual link dvi (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002KKLYDK/ref=oss_product) cable...this is after Best Buy's 70 dollar hdmi to dvi (perhaps it was 'single' link?) didn't give me the best resolution. In windows 7, when I try to set the max resolution for my 30 in monitor, I only get 1280x800...which is absurd. The monitor is great, I love the laptop and the video card supposedly supports such resolutions. So I can't figure out why I'm not getting better resolution (by the way, when i "detect" my monitor in windows 7, it is shown correctly as DELL 3007WFP!).

  • What is the most relevant statistic information from Google Analytics for website optimalisation? [c

    - by Paulo
I was wondering, what is considered the best statistic information from Google Analytics for website optimalisation? Example 1: Alot of visitors leave the website on a specific page, this could be because there aren't enough forwards / links on that page so that the visitors don't see a reason to continue their travel on the website. Example 2: Your traffic sources are 70% direct visits, 28% redirects from other websites and 2% by search engine. You could say that your website is not easily findable in search engines which could be interpreted as a sign that your keywords and/or meta description aren't good enough to be found. I'd like to hear some from other people!

I also monitor port scan and capture any one that try to find the hidden ports. Probably it is something open... Thank you in advanced.

  • MySQL Windows vs. Linux: performance, caveats, pros and cons?

    - by gravyface
Looking for (preferrably) some hard data or at least some experienced anecdotal responses with regards to hosting a MySQL database (roughly 5k transactions a day, 60-70% more reads than writes, < 100k of data per transaction i.e. no large binary objects like images, etc.) on Windows 2003/2008 vs. a Debian-based derivative (Ubuntu/Debian, etc.). This server will function only as a database server with a separate Web server on another physical box; this server will require remote access for management (SSH for Linux, RDP for Windows). I suspect that the Linux kernel/OS will compete less than the Windows Server for resources, but for this I can't be certain. There's also security footprint: even with Windows 2008, I'm thinking that the Linux box can be locked down more easily than the Windows Server. Anyone have any experience with both configurations?

  • Limit of dvd rom

    - by user23950
I have lite on dvd rom. And I'm going to copy lots of files from maybe 40-70 dvd's. And I'm using this dvd rom for about 4-7 months now. And I have also burned lots of dvd's. and I've copied the 2nd dvd. But the rom is making sound. A sound that I do not hear frequently. Does it depend on the dvd's that I'm reading or my dvd rom is getting old. How many dvd's do you think the rom can copy without threatening its health

  • Graphic driver for Targa Now NT9231

    - by Lumio
I thought of installing Xubuntu on my elder Targa Now nettop and didn't think about the driver option. So now I'm here with a fresh Xubuntu installation and looking for graphic drivers. I found someone who might have had a "good" result with SiS - and the package is already installed, but I can't get my xorg.conf right. This is how my xorg.conf looks like right now: Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" Driver "sis" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Screen 0" Modeline "1024x768_60.00" 64.11 1024 1080 1184 1344 768 769 772 795 -HSync +Vsync #HorizSync 30.0-62.0 #VertRefresh 50.0-70.0 EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Monitor "Configured Monitor" Device "Configured Video Device" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" EndSubSection EndSection Thanks for every help given!
