• How to read a file with variable multi-row data in Python

  I have a file that is about 100Mb that looks like this: #meta data 1 skadjflaskdjfasljdfalskdjfl sdkfjhasdlkgjhsdlkjghlaskdj asdhfk #meta data 2 jflaksdjflaksjdflkjasdlfjas ldaksjflkdsajlkdfj #meta data 3 alsdkjflasdjkfglalaskdjf This file contains one row of meta data that corresponds to several, variable length data containing only alpha-numeric characters. What is the best way to read this data into a simple list like this: data = [[#meta data 1, skadjflaskdjfasljdfalskdjflsdkfjhasdlkgjhsdlkjghlaskdjasdhfk], [#meta data 2, jflaksdjflaksjdflkjasdlfjasldaksjflkdsajlkdfj], [#meta data 3, alsdkjflasdjkfglalaskdjf]] My initial idea was to use the read() method to read the whole file into memory and then use regular expressions to parse the data into the desired format. Is there a better more pythonic way? All metadata lines start with an octothorpe and all data lines are all alpha-numeric. Thanks!

• Enumerating all combinations of lists of different types

  Given two IEnumberables of different types, what is the best practice (considering readability and maintainability) for iterating over both lists to perform an action on all possible combinations? My initial solution was to use nested foreach loops, iterating over the first IEnumerable, and then within that loop, iterating over the second IEnumerable and passing the value from the outer and the current loop into the target method. Eg.: enum ParamOne { First, Second, Etc } List<int> paramTwo = new List<int>() { 1, 2, 3 }; void LoopExample() { foreach (ParamOne alpha in Enum.GetValues(typeof(ParamOne))) { foreach (int beta in paramTwo) { DoSomething(alpha, beta); } } } I tried to restructure it with LINQ, but ended up with something that had no obvious advantages and seemed less intuitive. A search here shows lots of questions about nesting foreachs to iterate over child properties, but I couldn't find anything about iterating over two distinct lists.

• How can I make an event created through Google Calendar's API send an invitation email?

  I'm trying to create an event through the API and it is mostly working, with the exception that while the new events are being created in the invitees calendars, no emails are being sent. Creating the event from the web interface is pushing the event through, as well as sending the email (except one account that doesn't get any notifications at all, but that's not relevant to my current problem).   What I have going on is a listview being dynamically created from a previous button click. Then ti starts a background worker in which should clear out the listview and populate the iistview with new information every 30 seconds.   Hi everyone, I have a UITableViewController that populates a UITableView with some data that I pull off the net. The data for each cell consists also of an image used as background, which I'm downloading in a separated NSOperation added to a NSOperationQueue with a MaxConcurrentOperationCount set to 4. As long as the image is not downloaded I'm showing a generic placeholder which I would like to replace (fading out/fading in) with the downloaded image once it's being successfully downloaded. I'm using the following code placed inside the cellForRowAtIndexPath of the UITableViewController. [UIView beginAnimations:@"fade" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationBeginsFromCurrentState:YES]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:3.0]; [UIView setAnimationCurve:UIViewAnimationCurveEaseInOut]; cell.placeholderUIImage.alpha = 0.0; cell.backgroundUIImage.alpha = 1.0; [UIView commitAnimations]; This is unfortunately just working randomly for a couple of rows, since for the most the background image is set instantly, as if the animation started on one cell would have been "overwritten" by the next call of beginAnimations.

• Issue with transparent texture on 3D primitive, XNA 4.0

  I need to draw a large set of cubes, all with (possibly) unique textures on each side. Some of the textures also have parts of transparency. The cubes that are behind ones with transparent textures should show through the transparent texture. However, it seems that the order in which I draw the cubes decides if the transparency works or not, which is something I want to avoid. It produces this result: As you can see, the textures behind the leaf cube are not visible on the other side. When i reverse index 3 and 0 on in the array, I get this: It is clear that the order of drawing is affecting the cubes. I suspect it may have to do with the blend mode, but I have no idea where to start with that.

Someone told me, it's an issue that my scrollbar isn't instantiated yet, but stopped short of helping me how to fix the problem.   I've been looking at the geom_rect example in section 5.10 of the ggplot2 book and don't understand the purpose of the NULL's in the aes function. For example, using the mpg data: g = ggplot(data=mpg, aes(x=displ, y=hwy)) + geom_point() #Produces a plot with a transparent filled region g + geom_rect(aes(NULL, NULL), alpha=0.1,xmin=5, xmax=7, ymin=10, ymax=45, fill="blue") #Solid filled region (v0.9) or nothing in v0.8 g + geom_rect(alpha=0.1,xmin=5, xmax=7, ymin=10, ymax=45, fill="blue") My understanding is that the NULL's are resetting the x & y mapping, but I don't see why this should affect the transparency.

I thought I could do it via an UPDATE containing a JOIN, but Access (I know...) is complaining with 'Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression ' and then everything from 'Barmy' here: UPDATE tB SET tB.BValue='Barmy' FROM TableB tB INNER JOIN TableA tA ON tB.AID=tA.AID WHERE tB.Name='Beta' AND tA.Name='Alpha'; What is my heinous crime? • Flex RGBA colors in CSS

  Hello all, I am trying to style a DataGrid component so that the background is transparent (Flex 4). Rgba colors work fine if I make "alternatingItemColors" an attribute on the component, but if I try to declare it in my css stylesheet, I cannot declare the alpha value. Works (mxml): <mx:DataGrid id="songGrid" width="800" height="529" dataProvider="{songs}" itemClick="handleRowClick(event);" x="145" y="168" headerStyleName="dataGridHeader" alternatingItemColors="[0xFFFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFFFF]"> Doesn't Work (css): mx|DataGrid { alternatingItemColors: #FFFFFFFF, #FFFFFFFF; } If I enter the values as "0xFFFFFFFF", I get a parse error, because it's not proper css (of course, most of flex's css isn't proper css, but I digress...). So, is there any way to declare the alpha value of these colors in the css?

  Hi The simple HTML below displays differently in Firefox and WebKit-based browsers (I checked in Safari, Chrome and iPhone). In Firefox both border and text have the same color (#880000), but in Safari the text gets a bit lighter (as if it had some transparency applied to it). Can I somehow fix this (remove this transparency in Safari)? UPDATE: Thank you for your answers.   Say I want to create an array of pixel values to pass into the createBitmap method described here. I have three int values r, g, b in the range 0 - 0xff. How do I transform those into a opaque pixel p? Does the alpha channel go in the high byte or the low byte? I googled up the documentation but it only states that: Each pixel is stored on 4 bytes. Each channel (RGB and alpha for translucency) is stored with 8 bits of precision (256 possible values.) This configuration is very flexible and offers the best quality. • Mysql select most frequent and sort alphabetically

  I am trying to select the most common 100 names from a table then display the list showing the names and count. I want the user to be able to re-sort the list alphabetically rather than based on count. I thought the following code would do it. It works for the default sort by count but fails on the sort alphabetically. The line "$count = mysql_num_rows($table);" gives an error: mysql_num_rows() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given.   Windows 7 has the full and basic aero themes that can be changed inside personalization. Windows used to automatically disable Windows Aero (transparency) when I unplug my laptop from the mains. I reset the theme and now it doesn't do this anymore. I can't seem to find how to enable this again. I've checked the advanced power options and control panel but turning back on this feature is eluding me. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
