    Short of using static IP addresses, is it possible to have a Cisco ASA use a DNS name rather than an IP address? For instance, if I want to limit a host in the DMZ to access only one particular web service, but that web service might be globally load balanced or using DynDNS or cloud, how can the ACL be expressed so that a fixed IP address isn't used and the admin doesn't have to keep opening and closing down IP addresses?

    I would like to start learning 3d game development and currently only develop 2d games. A few basic questions I am interested in are: What is used to create the 3d environments? Are they all done in e.g. Maya, Lightwave, 3d modeling software? What is the output format for these models and how are they manipulated in iOS? Is it all done using openGL(GL ES on iOS)? e.g a monster needs to be spawned in the game world. What coordinates are used? Are the concepts the same as 2d in terms of collision on the coordinates and movement on the coordinates of the game world? How are 3d games managed in iOS on the low available memory.     I have a Cisco 891 that is going to be connected to 2 WAN links, a DSL connection and a cable connection. I'm not so concerned with load balancing between them because the DSL connection speed is a drop in the bucket when compared to the cable speed though it would be nice if it worked that way. I mainly just want to force all traffic through the cable WAN link unless it goes down. I'm not really sure what feature set I should be researching.

    A bit of a revelation this evening. I discovered something obvious, but missing from my understanding of the brilliant iOS example that ships with the Sync. Framework 4.0CTP It seems that on the server side if a record is edited, correctly only the fields that are modified gets sent down to your device (in my case an iPad). I was previously just blindly assuming that I'd get all fields down.   • What is the most cross-browser/system compatible option for 3d graphics on a web page?

    I would like to develop a bit of functionality for a web site that involves a bit of 3D - the user can move around objects, rotate them and texture them. So far I've looked into: WebGL (in particular three.js) and it looks great, but it's not supported in IE nor IOS. IOS supports the <canvas> tag, but only 2d. It looks like three.js has an unsupported hack to make a 3d thing use the 2d canvas instead without textures, but this looks like a hack. I also considered resorting to Flash which works on most browsers, but that won't work on IOS. What's my best option for doing 3d web graphics on the vast array of browsers and interfaces? At the moment I'm thinking WebGL for web (and ask people to use chrome or firefox, and take the hit on IE) and then maybe write a native app for IOS, but I am not sure if there are better alternatives available that I don't know of.

    We have a switch (Cisco WS-C3750G-48TS) with only a C3750-IPBASE-M image (not a 'C3750-IPSERVICES-M' license). Is there any kind of multicast support here? All I need it to do is route multicast packets to an RP (ip pim sparse-mode). Do we really need the service (C3750-IPSERVICES-M) license/image?. The uplink switch is running C3750-IPSERVICES-M, but this switch doesn't seem to carry any ability to configure multicast on an interface.

    I need to purchase and install a SSL certificate on my Cisco ASA firewall. This will allow my VPN users to connect to my ASA without receiving the certificate error from the untrusted self assigned SSL certificate that is currently on the ASA. I had good experiences with the SSL certificates that GoDaddy sells. However, I'm concerned about using them. On my web servers I have to also install GoDaddy's "intermediate certificate bundle". On the ASA I do not think that I will be able to preform anything like this. I do not fully understand what the "intermediate certificate bundle" does, but obviously it's important. So my question is can I use a GoDaddy SSL certificate on an ASA without my users getting any type of warning or error about connecting to a site that using an untrusted SSL certificate. I need this to be as simple as possible for my end users and warning messages are always scary :) Thanks!

    HI, i have a cisco ASA 5510 using ASDM version 6.3 We have a webserver that is been written very specifically and i was given super direct "DO NOT DEVIATE" directions. This server has to get traffic from 3 different PUBLIC ip's that we own. (our isp gave use a block of 12 static addresses) on 4 different ports. there are the directions i was given externalIP1:22 - 172.17.5.50:22 - SSH externalIP1:443 - 172.17.5.50:23040 - SIT externalIP2:443 - 172.17.5.50:33040 - STAGE externalIP3:443 - 172.17.5.50:43040 - PROD My first question is, using ASDM (my contract employer demands i use ASDM over CLI) how do i get three public addresses to work on one interface. We are authenticating on PPPoE. I know create a virtual interface with the static address but when i do i cannot ping the address from another offsite machine. secondly, where would i put the traffic redirect in. would i go ahead and create ACL's or just make NAT routes.     interesting issue I am running into. I am trying to get syslog rmeote logging working with a Cisco switch. i have it working and logging for both on-success and on-failure. However when it is a failed login attempt it does not show the user name that tried to log in in the logs? Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 173.194.116.208, timeout is 2 seconds: !!!!! Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 44/45/48 ms How can I tell the router to ignore the ISP-supplied DNS servers and only use the statically-configured one?

  • How to get access to console to reset Cisco 3750?

    I acquired two Cisco 3750 switches from another part of my organization. I was able to complete the standard password/config reset procedure on one without any issues -- boot it, put it into express config mode, telnet in, reset the passwords, etc. The second one doesn't ever boot to the point where it displays anything on the console. When power cycled, the 'SYST' light flashes green a few times, then comes on a solid green and stays lit. None of the other lights ever flash or light up. Holding down the 'MODE' button for up to 30 seconds produces no noticeable effects. Nothing ever comes out on the console. Since I was able to configure the first one without any problems, I know my connectinon is good -- console port configured right, good cable, etc. Is this just a hardware problem with the switch? Is there any way I can recover from this and get the switch back into a state where I can configure it?

    Hi, I have an access to corporate VPN using Cisco VPN Client 5.0.00:0340, but when I'm connected to it, I don't have an Internet access. I'm using Windows XP SP3. As it was suggested here http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=209167 , I tried to enable "Allow local LAN Access" but it doesn't work. I also tried a second solution - deleting entry using "route" command, but it didn't help. I used "route delete 192.168.100.222". It's a third day of my attempts to solve this issue and I don't have an idea what else to do. I'm not very experienced in VPN stuff, but I know something about networking. Basing on my knowledge, I think that it's theoretically possible to achieve Internet access using my local network and only corporate stuff to be routed using VPN connection. I think that theoretically this should look like this: every IP being inside by corporation - VPN interface IP every other IP - my ethernet interface I've tried many possibilities of how to change those routes, but neither of them work. I'd really appreciate any help.   • VPN is working, except for DNS lookups. Firewall (Cisco ASA 5505) issue?

    I've got the following set up: LAN -> DHCP / DNS / VPN server (OSX 10.6) -> Cisco ASA 5505 -> WAN Connecting to the LAN via VPN works fine. I get all the details properly and I can ping any host on the internal network using their IP. However, I can't do any host lookups whatsoever. I've looked through the logs on and found this nugget in the firewall log: 3 Sep 08 2010 10:46:40 305006 10.0.0.197 65371 portmap translation creation failed for udp src inside:myhostname.local/53 dst inside:10.0.0.197/65371 Port 53 is dns services, no? Because of that log entry, I'm thinking that the issue is with the firewall, not the server. Any ideas? Please keep in mind that I have very little knowledge and experience with this kind of firewall and the little experience I do have is with the ASDM GUI console, not the CLI console.

  • Cisco access list logging. Why is there a difference between IPv4 and IPv6?

    I've got a Cisco 877 router. I've got an IPv4 access list and an IPv6 access list set up and configured similar to this: interface Dialer1 ... ip access-group INTERET-IN ipv6 traffic-filter IPV6-IN Each of these access lists has a final rule of deny ip/ipv6 any any log. However, in my syslog I notice that there's a difference in formatting between the two types of entries. IPv4 will say: %SEC-6-IPACCESSLOGP: list INTERNET-IN denied udp 88.89.209.63(137) -> 1.2.3.4(137), 1 packet Whereas the IPv6 list will say %IPV6_ACL-6-ACCESSLOGNP: list IPV6-IN/240 denied 59 2001:0:5EF5:79FD:14F9:B773:3EBA:3EE3 (Dialer1) -> 2001:800:1000:0::1, 8 packets Both have broadly the same information, but the IPv6 log entry is missing the protocol type and port, both of which are very useful if I'm trying to troubleshoot connectivity. Why is this? How do I get IPv6 deny logs to display the protocol and port used, if any?

  • Cisco WLAN Controller not pushing out DHCP addresses, what else could it be?

    On our Cisco WLAN Controller web interfaces, in Controller Interfaces, I have made a new interface with these settings: VLAN Identifier 202 IP Address 172.16.202.1 Netmask 255.255.255.0 Gateway 172.16.202.254 Primary DHCP Server 172.16.100.3 Secondary DHCP Server 172.16.100.2 Port: LAG I've also made a new WLAN and assigned it to the above interface. I have saved changes. But our wireless devices, although they seem to authenticate with the WLAN fine, they always get stuck on "obtaining DHCP address", so it seems the WLAN Controller isn't pushing out DHCP addresses to our devices. We do have a DHCP scope for the above in Windows Server 2008 R2 and everything there seems fine. If I connect a device with a static address (e.g. 172.16.202.10), it will connect. Stuck on what to do :(
