  • How Can I Get My USB TV Tuner To Work

    I have a KWorld UB445-U ATSC Hybrid TV Stick. I've tried MythTV, but it kept crashing when I was trying to set it up, and didn't get anywhere with it. I've tried VLC and just tried Kaffiene. I'm not sure how to work VLC or Kaffeine to accept my TV. Can someone help me with it?     I have Micromax 3G modem, and i inserted it in the USB port, but it is not being detected by Ubuntu 12.04, that i'm using from a Live USB. I tried creating a mobile internet connection, however, eventhough i created it, there is no option to connect. I had previously used 11.10 Ubuntu, and it had automatically detected the datastick modem and asked me to create a connection.     On a Sony Vaio VPCEG, bluetooth is not working properly: The gnome-shell bluetooth indicator (at the main bar) shows the bluetooth is on, but when I try to switch visibility on it simply doesn't turn on. When I open the bluetooth configuration dialog, the on/off indicator shows me the bluetooth is off. And when I try to turn it on it simply does not turn on.     Is there a way to determine the speed of the PCI Express connection to a specific card? I have three cards plugged in: two Nvidia GTX 480's (one at x16 & and one at x8) one Nvidia GTX 460 running at x8 Is there some way, either by a function call in C or an option to lspci that I can determine the bus speed of the graphics cards? When I only use one of the cards for my CUDA program, I'd like to use the one which is running at x16. Thanks! Note: lspci -vvv dumps out For the two GTX 480s. The two usb ports on the left work just fine. EDIT: I just updated my bios from 1.32 to 1.39, no change in behaviour. The port does not even power up my devices. EDIT 2: Booted up windows, and the port is working. I went into the device manager and looked at the USB settings. I found my USB drive on Port 2, Hub 3, i just don't know how that relates to the Bus and Device numbers of linux. In windows, Smart card reader was on USB hub located at port 1 hub 2, fingerprint and bluetooth were on USB hub located at port 1 hub 1 EDIT 3: Went and looked at this SO post. Tried to look at my kern.log file with tail -f /var/log/kern.log. Got some activity when plugging/removing devices in other ports, but nothing happens when connecting a device into that port. It really looks disabled. Looked at my usb1-4 sys/bus/usb/devices/usb1/power/control and they are all set on auto. As expected, usb4 have version 3.00, the others (usb1-usb3) are 2.00.

    I have a brand new notebook where I have installed Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64bit in dual boot. In windows 7 wifi works but in Ubuntu not.   • Creating static NAT blocks outbound traffic Cisco ASA

    Hi Everyone, I have two web servers sitting behind a Cisco ASA 5505, which I don't have much experience with. I'm trying to create two static NATs. One static NAT that goes to xx.xx.xx.150 and another that goes to xx.xx.xx.151. I've created the static NAT for the .150 web server and it works FINE. Incoming and outgoing traffic work great. This is the staging web server. I now need to duplicate the setup for the production web server. So, I connect the webserver to the firewall, change the public IP address on one of the NICs reboot the server and I have outbound internet access. Then I run the command: static (inside,outside) xx.xx.xx.150 192.168.1.x which is successful. I then run the command: access-list acl-outside permit tcp any host xx.xx.xx.150 eq 80 Which is successful. I then try to browse the internet and I get nothing. I try to telnet in through port 80 and I get nothing (though I'm guessing because the response to the telnet request is being blocked). I've tried this with the production web server and then I tried it with another web server that is for internal testing and have the exact same problem. Both work fine until I run the static NAT rule and then no outbound internet access. I have a feeling that it's something simple that I'm missing, but my limited experience with this device is killing me. Below I've pasted the current configuration.     I had an idea of using my Windows VM (on a Ubuntu host) to open itms:// links (for iTunes) from the host. So, I'm using vboxmanage guestcontrol to make this happen. I have a script (win_vm_launcher.sh) that takes a link as the argument, and passes it to the host like this: vboxmanage guestcontrol "$VM" exec --image 'C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe' --username "$USER" --password "$PASSWORD" -- /c start "$@" This works if I copy a link from my browser, and change http to itms. E.g., for https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/new-york-city/id3202598, I can do win_vm_launcher.sh itmss://itunes.apple.com/us/album/new-york-city/id3202598 and it works fine. The album opens up in iTunes on my VM. However, when I click a "View in iTunes" link from the iTunes site, it adds an extra parameter to the URI (specifically, the referrer), so it looks something like itmss://itunes.apple.com/us/album/new-york-city/id3202598?ign-msr=https%3A%2F%2Fitunes.apple.com%2Fus%2Falbum%2Fit-came-upon-midnight-clear%2Fid578946739 Unfortunately, if I try to run win_vm_launcher.sh itmss://itunes.apple.com/us/album/new-york-city/id3202598?ign-msr=https%3A%2F%2Fitunes.apple.com%2Fus%2Falbum%2Fit-came-upon-midnight-clear%2Fid578946739 it insteads opens up a regular Command Prompt window with the title "itmss://itunes.apple.com/us/album/new-york-city/id3202598?ign-msr=https%3A%2F%2Fitunes.apple.com%2Fus%2Falbum%2Fit-came-upon-midnight-clear%2Fid578946739". I don't even know how to set the command prompt window title, so I'm not sure how that's happening. If I run the command in the guest, it works fine, opening the album in iTunes: cmd /c start itmss://itunes.apple.com/us/album/new-york-city/id3202598?ign-msr=https%3A%2F%2Fitunes.apple.com%2Fus%2Falbum%2Fit-came-upon-midnight-clear%2Fid578946739 I found a VirtualBox bug that seems somewhat related, but not exactly. It probably doesn't matter, but my host is Ubuntu 12.04, and my guest is Windows 7. So, any idea if vboxmanage is incorrectly passing the arguments, and if so, is there a way around it? If I can't figure out the right way to do it, I'll end up having to process each argument, and stripping out any parameters on any URIs. P.S. So, it sort of passed the parameter correctly (not sure why it still had quotes), so maybe the problem is with cmd.exe, or even the start command. I'm stymied.

    Here I have a Samba server (Debian 5.0) thats is configured to host Windows XP profiles. Clients connects to this server and work on their profiles directly on the samba share (the profile is not copied locally). Every now and then, a client may not shutdown properly and thus Windows does not free the file locks. When looking at the samba locking table, we can see that many files are still locked even though the client is not connected anymore. In our case, this seems to occur with lockfiles created by Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox.     I have a laptop running Maverick (very happily until yesterday), with a Patriot Torx SSD; LUKS encryption of the whole partition; one lvm physical volume on top of that; then home and root in ext4 logical volumes on top of that. When I tried to boot it yesterday, it complained that it couldn't mount the root filesystem. Running fsck, basically every inode seems to be wrong. Both home and root filesystems show similar problems. Checking a backup superblock doesn't help. e2fsck 1.41.12 (17-May-2010) lithe_root was not cleanly unmounted, check forced. Resize inode not valid. Recreate? no Pass 1: Checking inodes, blocks, and sizes Root inode is not a directory. Clear? no Root inode has dtime set (probably due to old mke2fs). Fix? no Inode 2 is in use, but has dtime set. Fix? no Inode 2 has a extra size (4730) which is invalid Fix? no Inode 2 has compression flag set on filesystem without compression support. Clear? no Inode 2 has INDEX_FL flag set but is not a directory. Clear HTree index? no HTREE directory inode 2 has an invalid root node. Clear HTree index? no Inode 2, i_size is 9581392125871137995, should be 0. Fix? no Inode 2, i_blocks is 40456527802719, should be 0. Fix? no Reserved inode 3 (<The ACL index inode>) has invalid mode. Clear? no Inode 3 has compression flag set on filesystem without compression support. Clear? no Inode 3 has INDEX_FL flag set but is not a directory. Clear HTree index? no .... Running strings across the filesystems, I can see there are what look like filenames and user data there. I do have sufficiently good backups (touch wood) that it's not worth grovelling around to pull back individual files, though I might save an image of the unencrypted disk before I rebuild, just in case. smartctl doesn't show any errors, neither does the kernel log. Running a write-mode badblocks across the swap lv doesn't find problems either. So the disk may be failing, but not in an obvious way. At this point I'm basically, as they say, fscked? Back to reinstalling, perhaps running badblocks over the disk, then restoring from backup? There doesn't even seem to be enough data to file a meaningful bug... I don't recall that this machine crashed last time I used it. At this point I suspect a bug or memory corruption caused it to write garbage across the disks when it was last running, or some kind of subtle failure mode for the SSD. What do you think would have caused this? Is there anything else you'd try?

  • Manipulating IIS7 Configuration with Powershell

    I'm trying to script some IIS7 setup tasks in PowerShell using the WebAdministration module. I'm good with setting simple properties, but am having some trouble when it comes to dealing with collections of elements in the config files. As an immediate, example, I want to have application pools recycle on a given schedule, and the schedule is a collection of times. When I set this up via the IIS management console, the relevant config section looks like this: <add name="CVSupportAppPool"> <recycling> <periodicRestart memory="1024" time="00:00:00"> <schedule> <clear /> <add value="03:31:00" /> </schedule> </periodicRestart> </recycling> </add> In my script I would like to be able to accomplish the same thing, and I have the following two lines: #clear any pre-existing schedule Clear-WebConfiguration "/system.applicationHost/applicationPools/add[@name='$($appPool.Name)']/recycling/periodicRestart/schedule" #add the new schedule Add-WebConfiguration "/system.applicationHost/applicationPools/add[@name='$($appPool.Name)']/recycling/periodicRestart/schedule" -value (New-TimeSpan -h 3 -m 31) That does almost the same thing, but the resulting XML lacks the <clear/> element that is created with via the GUI, which I believe is necessary to avoid inheriting any default values. This sort of collection (with "add", "remove", and "clear" elements) seems to be fairly standard in the config files, but I can't seem to find any good documentation on how to interact with them consistently.

    I am a learning algorithm analysis and came across a analysis tool for understanding the running time of an algorithm with widely varying performance which is called as amortization. The autor quotes " An array with upper bound of n elements, with a fixed bound N, on it size. Operation clear takes O(n) time, since we should dereference all the elements in the array in order to really empty it. " The above statement is clear and valid. Now consider the next content: "Now consider a series of n operations on an initially empty array. if we take the worst case viewpoint, the running time is O(n^2), since the worst case of a sigle clear operation in the series is O(n) and there may be as many as O(n) clear operations in the series." From the above statement how is the time complexity O(n^2)? I did not understand the logic behind it. if 'n' operations are performed how is it O(n ^2)? Please explain what the autor is trying to convey..

First of all, I have solid foundation in alg, data structure, and OOP, but I don't have a clear understanding of the whole system of the subject. I studied database, alg, data structure, OOP, network, software engineering, OS, and a lot of courses. I know what they are, but I don't know how to connect them together. Is there a way to have a clear understanding of the architecture of the subject? And is there a way to know what technology is used to do what? For example, in interviews, when people ask me alg, data str, Java, OS or any other specific field, I could answer, but when they ask some other very general about the field, I have no idea. Well, I know my question maybe a little bit confusing, but what my situation is I don't even know how to ask a clear question. I don't know my question, it's totally a mess in my head. Is there a way to make it clear?

  • How should the View pull on the Presenter in the MVP pattern

    I have a ASP.NET Web Forms application and I'm using some dynamic controls in the view which depend on stuff that the presenter exposes. Is it okay for the view in this case to pull on the presenter for that data? Is there anything I should be extra careful about when considering testability and a loosely coupled design. The page in this case has it's own page-life cycle and the presenter doesn't know about this. However, the page-life cycle dictates that somethings must occur at specific moments in the page-life cycle. This smells like trouble... Any known pit falls?
