  • Puppet Agent fails sporadically, with either timeout or "Could not find class" error

    - by smokris
I have puppet master running on a Xen dom0, and 3 domUs syncing to it via an hourly crontab puppet agent --test. About 80% of the time, the puppet agent --test completes successfully: info: Retrieving plugin info: Caching catalog for test3 info: Applying configuration version '1333319732' notice: Finished catalog run in 5.08 seconds The other 20% of the time, it fails midway, with errors such as the following: err: Could not retrieve catalog from remote server: Error 400 on SERVER: Could not find class iptables for test1 at /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp:1 on node test1 warning: Not using cache on failed catalog err: Could not retrieve catalog; skipping run or info: Retrieving plugin info: Caching catalog for test2 info: Applying configuration version '1333319732' notice: Finished catalog run in 24.73 seconds err: Could not send report: Error 500 on SERVER: Internal Server Error private method `gsub' called for WEBrick::HTTPStatus::RequestTimeout:Class WEBrick/1.3.1 (Ruby/1.8.5/2006-08-25) OpenSSL/0.9.8e-rhel5 at puppet:8140 or info: Retrieving plugin err: Could not retrieve catalog from remote server: execution expired warning: Not using cache on failed catalog err: Could not retrieve catalog; skipping run or info: Retrieving plugin info: Caching catalog for test3 info: Applying configuration version '1333319732' notice: Finished catalog run in 9.47 seconds err: Could not send report: Error 408 on SERVER: Request Timeout During this time, I've not made any changes to the Puppet configuration — it just sporadically fails. I'm running puppet-2.7.12 on CentOS, and followed the setup instructions described on http://docs.puppetlabs.com/learning/agent_master_basic.html. Any ideas about how I can troubleshoot this?

  • Get your content off Blogger.com

Due to blogger.com deprecating FTP users I've decided to move my blog. When I think of the content of a blog, 4 items come to mind: blog posts, comments, binary files that the blog posts linked to (e.g. images, ZIP files) and the CSS+structure of the blog. 1. Binaries The binary files you used in your blog posts are sitting on your own web space, so really blogger.com is not involved with that. Nothing for you to do at this stage, I'll come back to these in another post. 2. CSS and structure...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • ContentManager in XNA cant find any XML

    - by user36385
Im making a game in XNA 4 and this is the first time I'm using the Content loader to initialize a simple class with a XML file, but no matter how many guide I follow, or how simple or complicated is my XML File the ContentManager cant find the file; the Debug keep telling me: "A first chance exception of type 'Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.ContentLoadException' occurred in Microsoft.Xna.Framework.dll". I'm really confuse because I can load SpriteFonts and Texture2D without a problem ... I create the following XML (the most basic Xna XML): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <XnaContent> <Asset Type="System.String">Hello</Asset> </XnaContent> and I try to load it in the LoadContent method in my main class like this: System.String hello = Content.Load<System.String>("NewXmlFile"); There is something I'm doing wrong? I really appreciate your help

  • SEO - why did my google search rank drop?

    - by Brian McCarthy
My nutrition shop websites for tampa and brandon were coming up on page one of google search results and now they have dissappeared. The 2 websites serve different markets although they are close geographically and have the same products, keywords, and layouts. Brandon, FL is considered a suburb of Tampa, FL and could be grouped into the Tampa Bay area. There's also a mirror site nutrition shop setup for orlando. Is the google search ranking drop because: 1) from a flash banner recently added on the front page 2) is the site just being re-indexed on all search engines b/c of new content? 3) is it seen as duplicate content as there are separate websites for the cities of Tampa and Brandon but with the same content? What can be done to fix this? Thanks!

  • Sending a android.content.Context parameter to a function with JNI

    - by Ef Es
    I am trying to create a method that checks for internet connection that needs a Context parameter. The JNIHelper allows me to call static functions with parameters, but I don't know how to "retrieve" Cocos2d-x Activity class to use it as a parameter. public static boolean isNetworkAvailable(Context context) { boolean haveConnectedWifi = false; boolean haveConnectedMobile = false; ConnectivityManager cm = (ConnectivityManager) context.getSystemService( Context.CONNECTIVITY_SERVICE); NetworkInfo[] netInfo = cm.getAllNetworkInfo(); for (NetworkInfo ni : netInfo) { if (ni.getTypeName().equalsIgnoreCase("WIFI")) if (ni.isConnected()) haveConnectedWifi = true; if (ni.getTypeName().equalsIgnoreCase("MOBILE")) if (ni.isConnected()) haveConnectedMobile = true; } return haveConnectedWifi || haveConnectedMobile; } and the c++ code is JniMethodInfo methodInfo; if ( !JniHelper::getStaticMethodInfo( methodInfo, "my/app/TestApp", "isNetworkAvailable", "(android/content/Context;)V")) { //error return; } CCLog( "Method found and loaded!"); methodInfo.env->CallStaticVoidMethod( methodInfo.classID, methodInfo.methodID); methodInfo.env->DeleteLocalRef( methodInfo.classID);

  • Global UTF-encoding, the right way

    - by mowgli
I'm curious, as to what is the right way to have UTF-8 encoding on all web files All my files (incl. CSS and JS) are made and saved in UTF-8 encoding In PHP, I set the char-set on top of the main page (this page includes all others) with: header('Content-type: text/html; charset=utf-8'); In the same page I have this html meta tag: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> Then I stubled upon an external css file that has this on first line: @charset "UTF-8"; And now I wonder, should I set the charset INSIDE all my CSS/JS files too, like that? And/or should I serve each file with charset=utf-8 in the meta tag?

  • What is the best way to restrict adult content on 12.04 LTS

    - by Stephen Myall
I bought my kids a PC and installed 12.04 (Unity) on it. The bottom line is, I want my children to use the computer unsupervised while I have confidence they cannot access anything inappropriate. What I have looked at: I was looking at Scrubit which allows me configure my wifi router but this solution would also affect my other PC and mobile devices. This is not feasible as I just want the solution to work on one PC. I also did some Google searches and came across Nanny (it seems to look the part). My experience of OSS is that the best solutions frequently never appear first on a Google search list so my question is very specific. I want to leverage your knowledge and experience to understand “What is the best way to restrict adult content on 12.04 LTS” as this is important to me. Please don't answer this question "try this or that", then give me some PPA, I am looking for knowledge and experience from someone in my situation. Thanks in advance

  • Always disable the 8.3 name creation on Windows before installing WebCenter Content or WebLogic Server

    - by Kevin Smith
You should always disable the 8.3 name creation feature when installing WebCenter Content on a Windows platform. The installs will normally work without it disabled, but you will find the weird 8.3 file and directory names in all the config files. Disabling it can also improve performance. On Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 and above you can do it with this command: fsutil.exe behavior set disable8dot3 1 To make sure it is disabled you can run this command to check: fsutil.exe behavior query disable8dot3 If the 8.3 file name creation is disabled you will see the following output from the command: The registry state of NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation is 1 (Disable 8dot3 name creation on all volumes). Here is a Microsoft note on how to do this on Windows 2000 and Windows NT. How to Disable the 8.3 Name Creation on NTFS Partitions

  • AdSense CPM and content topics

    - by Silver Moon
I run a few blogs on topics like programming, linux tips and network security. I noticed the following: Till last year had only 1 blog that had posts on PHP, linux tips, network security etc. The AdSense RPM was around 1.00. Then I split the content into 3 separate blogs, one focused on web development/PHP/MySQL. second one focused on Linux/Windows how-tos and tips and third one focused on network security and related network topics. The Adsense RPM rose significantly for 2 blogs, and was 1.38 (PHP blog), 0.87 (tech tips blog) and 1.90 (network security blog). In the month of april 2013 the site on network security had the highest traffic and the Adsense income of that site was twice that of all three sites combined previously. My question is simple, does focusing on one topic lead to higher CPC/CPM?

  • Changing the content of the panel

    - by user214901
I am an absolute beginner on Ubuntu and Linux. I am currently migrating since Microsoft is supposedly phasing out the support of XP. Running Ubuntu 12.04 I am trying to modify the content of the panel (this is the upper bar as I understand it) so it would show caps lock and numlock status. The info I found on the web more or less said that I needed to super-alt right click on the panel and add the options available from the menu. Hoowever, nothing happens when I super-alt right click. No menu pops up, nothing. I found many posts and websites that gave this key-mouse combo as if it was common use. But for me, it does absolutely nothing. Is there something that has to be enabled to have this possibility?

  • What do you do about content when someone asks you to build a website

    - by Jon
I am an experienced asp.net developer and asp.net mvc and I have my own CMS that I have written but starting to think there should be another approach. When someone asks you to develop them a website how do you develop it so that they can add pictures, slideshows, content, news items, diary events. On a side note do you give them a design for the home page and inner page and thats it. I'm just thinking if they turn around and say 6 months down the line I want a jquery slideshow on the right hand side of this page how do you or CMS's handle it?

  • Load Texture From Image Content In Runtime

    - by Austin Brunkhorst
    Basically I wrote a world editor for a game I'm working on. Looking ahead, I was brainstorming ways to save the created world including the tile-sets (this game will rely on a tile engine). I was hoping to save the image data of each tile-set in the same file containing the tile positions, etc. and load the image data into a Texture with XNA. Is it possible? Something like this is what I'm going for. Texture2D tileset = Content.LoadFromString<Texture2D>("png tileset data");

  • URL structure for content that is updated daily

    - by Brendon
A small, simple site I am working on displays a single page with the day's best offers on it. The user is able to move back and forth between previous days. Which of the following URL structures works best? Structure 1 /index.html -- today's best offers /2013-06-29.html -- yesterday's best offers, etc. Structure 2 /index.html -- 302 redirects to /2013-06-30.html (or whatever today is) /2013-06-30.html -- today's best offers /2013-06-29.html -- yesterday's best offers, etc. I quite like structure 2 from the user's point of view (they can share content easily), but I am a bit concerned about updating the redirect from /index.html every single day -- would this perhaps have unintended SEO consequences?

  • Loading content (meshes, textures, sounds) in the background

    - by Boreal
In my game, I am aiming for a continuous world, that is, a world where you can go anywhere without breaking the immersion through load times and "virtual seams". My world is broken up into regions, which are nodes in a graph. A region is considered adjacent to another if it can be travelled to or seen from that region. In order to keep this continuous, I want to preload the assets needed in the adjacent regions (such as world meshes, textures, and music) before they are actually used. As for actually loading the content, I use a manager that keeps at most one copy of each asset in memory at a time, accessible by its filename. When I try to access an asset, it loads it (if necessary) and then returns it. I can then unload any asset that is currently loaded to save memory. Clearly, I want to do this in the background so there are no hiccups. I assume I have to use threads in some way, but I'm not sure how.

  • Can mass different log-in pages result in SEO duplicate and/or low quality punishments?

    - by Noam
I have internal pages that rely on an external API which I would like to build upon user request. Two options I thought about: Make lots of 'thin' pages that specifies that if you want content about X, you need to log-in, and then the page will be built. Pros: user understands what he'll get when logging in. Cons: SEO implications of such a solution due to the mass 'low quality' and 'cross-sites duplicate content' Make them all redirect to ONE same generic log-in page. Pros: No duplicate low quality content. Cons: Lots of internal links to the same log-in page. Which would you recommend?

  • Identify "non-secure" content IE warns about [on hold]

    - by Doug Harris
As many know, if you serve a page over https and the content loads resources (images, stylesheets, js, SWF objects, etc) over http, older versions of Internet Explorer will show the user a warning saying "This page contains both secure and non-secure items". This is discomforting to many non-technical users. Usually, I can look at the HTML source and identify which item(s) are triggering this error. Sometimes a Flash object will load something else or some embedded javascript will put a new object in the DOM and trigger this. What tools are good for quickly tracking down the source of the warning?

  • Directing crawlers to content in language per language sub-domain

    - by Noam
I have a site with multilingual website with many pages (40M). The site has UGC, and each translation is actually for the titles. Each sub-domain points to the same content with different titles per language. As far as I understand, each sub-domain should be indexed by search engines, meaning they will actually need to crawl 40M x supported-languages. So I thought it might be best to direct each subdomain crawler, to pages that are fully in that language (titles + UGC). Is there a way to do this? Should search engines understand this on their own?

  • Splitting a sitemap by content type

    - by James
I currently am tasked with submitting our website sitemap to the search engines every week. We have a module which does offer sitemap generation but we find using it does not work very well as not all pages are included and it does not split the sitemap by content. I've used various (online and offline) tools to generate the sitemaps which is not the problem. The problem is that after every generation (which takes most of each Monday) I have to manually go through the sitemap and categorise the links in to products, pages, categories and sub categories. I've experimented successfully with XSL to split the sitemap but it is still a labour intensive process. Does anyone know of a good method to split the sitemap? Currently there are around 20,000 links (iirc) in total.

  • Object-based content management system

    - by Adam Maras
I remember hearing within the last year or two about a content management system either being released or developed that was centralized around product/item information. I'm aware that there are several CMSes that have this capability, but this particular one was built specifically for that task. Also, I remember it winning some sort of award or recognition for upcoming software products. However, I can't for the life of me remember what this CMS was called or who was developing it. Does anyone know what package I'm talking about?

  • How do you maintain content size vs. content quality in an application?

    - by PeterK
I am developing my first Cocos2d iPhone/iPad game that includes quite a few sprites, I would need approximately 80 different. As this is for both normal and HD displays I have 2x of each sprite. I am using TexturePacker to optimize the thing. I would like to ask if there are any rules-of-thumb, tricks, ideas etc. to adjust to in regards to size of content, quality and how you maintain high-quality HD-based graphics due to its size vs. the device memory sizes? Also, is it a good idea to only have one copy of the sprites and scale it using code?

  • Legality of copying information from a Wikia? [closed]

    - by Sergio Tapia
I'm making a website that will act as a compendium for a video game. I noticed that a page from Wikia has a ton of useful content such as background stories and trivia for many of the "entities" in the game. According to their site: The text on Wikia sites is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License 3.0 (Unported) (CC-BY-SA). I'm not a lawyer; so what is the legality of copying and pasting the information written there collaboratively by the hivemind, into my website? If needed I would not be opposed to pasting the content and providing a source link at the end of each paragraph. Can I paste the content into my site? Thanks for the help!
