• Entity Framework inheritance: TPT, TPH or none?

  Hi, I am currently reading about the possibility about using inheritance with Entity Framework. Sometimes I use a approch to type data records and I am not sure if I would use TPT or TPH or none... For example... I have a ecommerce shop which adds shipping, billing, and delivery address I have a address table: RecordID AddressTypeID Street ZipCode City Country and a table AddressType RecordID AddressTypeDescription The table design differs to the gerneral design when people show off TPT or TPH... Does it make sense to think about inheritance an when having a approach like this.. I hope it makes sense... Thanks for any help...

Thanks @mattlant This is a dedicated server that's why I'm installing the SMTP manually. EDIT: I use exchange so its a little different, but its called a smart host in exchange, but in plain SMTP service config i think its called something else. Cant remember exactly the setting name. Thank you for pointing me at the Smart host field. Mail is getting delivered now. In the Default SMTP Virtual Server properties, the Delivery tab, click Advanced and fill the "Smart host" field with the address that your provider gives you. • CakePHP: shortcomings with indirectly associated models

  I'm having some issues with dealing with indirectly associated models in cakephp. My current model setup is as follows: Deliveries hasOne License License belongsTo Delivery License hasAndBelongsToMany Product (and vice-versa) License hasAndBelongsToMany ProductOption (and vice-versa) I'm trying to save information about ALL of these models inside ONE form. The shortcomings I'm running into are the following: The form helper only seems able to see the field type one level deep. saveAll() only seems able to save records one level deep (for multiple model forms). I'm searching everywhere for the solutions to these issues, but since I'm new to CakePHP, I'm not sure what the newest methods or "correct" methods are for dealing with these issues. • What can't I build in Silverlight?

  First, I know that Silverlight needs to be embedded in a website, usually an asp page. I understand I need a delivery boy. My question is this; What types of apps/projects are so filled with technological hurdles as to make them ridiculous to do in Silverlight versus ASP.net? I know that with perseverance and flexibility I can probably make EVERY app in Silverlight, in some version or another, but which ones would be blatantly simple in, say ASP.net(or even WPF) but quite complicated in Silverlight? Basically what I am asking is if there is any reason I shouldn't consider Silverlight my first stop for every problem, obvious exceptions not with standing(a service or console). For me specifically, at this point, I am only building in house apps.

I not prefer to use http request GET on 2nd application because of latency issue. I looking for fast way to save records on 2nd application quickly, i came across the idea of "fire and forget" , will JMX suit for this scenario? from my understanding jmx will gurantee message delivery. Let say i need to call at least 1000 random requests per seconds to 2nd application should i use jmx? http request? or xmpp instead?

• How to check misspelled email during user registration

  I use an email registration and confirmation in my project (yes, I know about OpenID. In my counry, a main email service lack it). Sometimes users misspell their email addresses. I know about this due to "message could not be delivered" letters in a mailbox. A misspelled address is absolutely correct, because I check it with a regular expression - say, [email protected] intstead of [email protected]. And I do not want to duplicate a email field in a registration form (who likes it?). Request processing routine cannot wait for email delivery - it could take an unpredictable time. So, my script will return to user a confirmation message "An email was sent". And the user will wait for it forever (of cause, not - he/she will turn to an alternative project with a more perfect registration system). Does someone knows how it can be improved (in any programming language)?

  What would be the ideal hardware setup for pushing lots of bandwith on a tube site? We have ever-expanding cloud storage where users upload the movies, then we have these web-delivery machines which cache the FLV files on its local harddrives and deliver them to users. Each cache machine can deliver 1200 mbits/s , if it has SAS 8 harddrives. Such a cache machine costs us $550/month for 8x160gb -- so each machine can cache only 160GB at any given time. If we want to cache more then 160gb , we need to add another machine..another $550/month..etc. This is very un-economical so I am wondering if we have any experts here who can figure out a better setup. I've been looking into "gluster FS", but I am not sure if this thing can push a lot of bandwith. Any ideas highly appreciated. Thank you!

  Hi, I am writing a program for formatting 100s of MB String data (nearing a gig) into xml == And I am required to return it as a response to an HTTP (GET) request . I am using a StringWriter/XmlWriter to build an XML of the records in a loop and returning the stringWriter.ToString() during testing I saw a few --out of memory exceptions-- and quite clueless on how to find a solution? do you guys have any suggestions for a memory optimized delivery of the response? is there a memory efficient way of encoding the data? or maybe chunking the data -- I just can not think of how to return it without building the whole thing into one HUGE string object thanks

• Best way to change Satchmo checkout page fields?

  For a Satchmo project we have to change the fields a customer has to fill out during checkout. Specifically, we have to: Add a 'middle name' field Replace the bill and delivery addressee with separate first, middle and last name fields Replace the two address lines with street, number and number extension These fields are expected by an upstream web service, so we need to store this data separately. What's the best way to achieve this with minimal changes in the rest of Satchmo? We prefer a solution in which we do not have to change the Satchmo code itself, but if required we can fork it.

  Hi Is it possible to check if the php can get some kind of a ping/flag back from exchange mail server to say "yes, email has been sent off to the intended recipient"? According to the PHP manual, the return of mail() boolean could mean; "It is important to note that just because the mail was accepted for delivery, it does NOT mean the mail will actually reach the intended destination." Does this mean, PHP can return success but actually there could be a problem on the mail server that php wouldn't know about it? and in this case no email has been sent and the user is none the wiser?   I'm currently learning about the Drupal email functions, such as drupal_mail and hook_mail, and hook_mail_alter, and I have a problem before me where I'll need to be able to queue emails for delayed delivery. For example, an event signup notification that needs to wait for an hour after the event was registered by a user. And that email has user specific data, so can't be just a generic template email... I'm using the MailQ module, mainly for it's logging capabilities, but I wonder if it (or something else) could be modified to add a configurable delay function? Any ideas?

But my idea, more than writing an entire application with web interface and so on, is to write a very tiny core that provides the basic functionality in the most efficient way, like a library that other people can use to write a complete application more fitted to their needs. • Custom Display Form with Custom Workflow button

  I have created a new custom list form that will show 4 fields on the page from a Custom List called "Shipment". I have added Form Action button that I would like to run a custom action that is set inside of a Workflow. Currently, the form displays the fields for "Manifest Number", "Pickup Location", "Delivery Location", & "Scheduled Pickup Time". When the user clicks the Form Action button, what I want the Workflow to do is go to the ID field of the displayed content in the Form and change the value of the "Picked Up" column from No to Yes. The problem I am having is passing the ID of the displayed information from the Form to the Workflow as a variable. I can get the "Picked Up" column to update if I specify the value in the "Update List Item" window under the "Find the List Item" section, but I cannot figure out how to do this dynamically from the Form

  Hi Guys, Can anyone help me, I have a IE javascript issue. I am really stuck and the client has just brought it to my attention. The site is http://www.fleurofengland.com/, its the check out page so if you would be kind enough to goto the site, add anything to your basket and go through to the checkout. The problem is when you get to the checkout page (https://www.fleurofengland.com/eaction/checkout.billing/), under the 'Billing and Delivery Details' heading you will see a dropdown called country. Below that is another dropdown called County/State, this dropdown is meant to be populated from the values of the 'country' one above however its not working. Please help or suggest a fix. Exactly the same type of check as Adobe CF and Railo allow to do when adding mail server. Sure, this does not guarantee that delivery will be working, but at least to check that entered server/username/pass are valid. I can see one tricky way: try to send the email with cfmail and check the mail log. But I believe that it can be done with more elegant. Is there any Java library available with standard ACF/Railo distro to help me? How would I use them? Examples are highly appreciated. Thanks in advance. EDIT: Please don't be confused with Java tag present. Solution needed in CFML. Though it can use some Java libraries, if applicable.

• How to prevent application thievery (specific to Android applications)?

  Hey, I was wondering what the most effective way of preventing people from stealing my application (downloading a copy of the .apk online rather than buying it). I've spent a lot of time on one in particular (Droidbox) and won't be releasing Sync until I can guarantee that the people who are providing illegal copies of the pro version aren't able to. Anyone implemented this? I've tried checking my package signature verses an the signature of an unsigned copy but it appears to be the same - perhaps I'm doing something incorrectly here. I'm unsure whether people actually distribute the signed .apk in which case I don't think signature validation would work to begin with... Please note, this question is specific to Android Marketplace Applications - the difference being, application delivery is out of my hands and I have no way of linking between a legitimate purchase and an illegal download.

• SMS Gateway Devices

  Can anyone recommend a good SMS Gateway device that sends and receives messages and has a reasonable API. We are looking for a hardware device that a Sim Card and works with Windows / .Net. I am working with about 50 different countries (Right now 50 will only become more in the future) and dealing with that many SMS suppliers and their various methods for billing and sending / responding to messages is proving unmanageable. It may be much easier to have a single method and call it by country. We do bulk send messages but from the logs this is at most 500 messages at a time (though it could be up-to about 1500 at a time) - mostly its small numbers far less than 500 messages. Ideally would like to get message delivery data and error handling type messages back from the device. I am not interested in a hosted solution unless it has the ability to receive a message to a local number in EVERY country.

• Does flex not support hashmaps?

  I have a Flex object which collects a DTO from the server. All the fields arrive filled in correctly except for the one that is a HashMap. It arrives as null. I've tried giving it a type of both ArrayCollection and Dictionary, but that hasn't fixed it. Does anyone know if there's an inherent incomaptability between Java HashMap and Flex? If not, what might I be doing wrong here? I'm looking at my jboss console and I see the data being populated correctly in the server side before delivery to the client. However, as it gets to the client, that field is null. I'm ready to kill myself.

  I'm serving ads using OpenX within Rails. To correctly use the OpenX full page invocation you need to set Oa_zones[] array, otherwise all available ads are requested (but will never be used). These are the necessary pieces: Build an array of zones. Ideally zones could be added in any partial, so working with this array needs to be accessible throughout the view. Output full page invocation link ie. delivery/spcjs.php?id=1&block=1 Output zones The problem is, the full page invocation script can't be loaded until the zone array is built (and instantiated in JavaScript). At the same time, the zone array can't be built until the entire view has been rendered.

  I have built an ERP using Sql Server as a back-end. These are the different types of Client documents (there are also Supplier Docs): Order -- impact: BO Delivery Note (also used for returns, with negative quantity) --impact: BO, Stock Invoice --impact: accounting only Credit Note --impact: accounting, BO I use a complex system of self joins (at detail level) to find out the quantities in each OrderDetail that still have a backorder (BO). It'd like to simplify this using a [group] field that could be used through all detail line related to an original order. There are many difficult things to trace: a Return of a product may be due to a defect and thus increase the BO, or it can be just a return, joined with a Credit Note, and then has no impact on BO. My question is: do you know of any real good reference (book, web) for this matter ?

  Can anyone provide me with advice, opinions, or experience with using an agile methodology to delivery an enterprise-scale Web Content Management system (e.g., Interwoven TeamSite, Tridion)? My current opinion is that to implement a CM system there is a certain--relatively high--amount of upfront work that needs to happen to make sure the system is going to be scalable and efficient for future projects for the multi-year lifespan an WCM is expected to have. This suggests a hybrid approach at best, if not a more waterfall-like approach. I'm really interested to learn what approaches others have taken. Thanks.

• What is the best way to interoperably serialize a message?

  I'm considering message serialization support for spring-integration. This would be useful for various wire level transports to implement guaranteed delivery, but also to allow interoperability with other messaging systems (e.g. through AMQP). The fundamental problem that arises is that a message containing Java object in it's payload and headers should be converted to a byte[] and/or written to a stream. Java's own serialization is clearly not going to cut it because that is not interoperable. My preference would be to create an interface that allows the user to implement the needed logic for all Objects that take part in serialization. Is this a sensible idea and what would the interface look like? Is there a standard interoperable way to serialize Objects that would make sense in this context?
