  • Best practices for model driven development using LiveCycle Data Services

    - by Adnan
What are your advises on using model driven development in developing enterprise applications. Adobe's LiveCycle Data Services looks very promising, I have found numerous tutorials/videos that shows how fast an application can be build by having methods/functions auto-generated. What are the best-practices, is it good/bad to use those auto-generated methods, they can really save a lot of time. All suggestions are welcome, also if you know some existing blog/discussion please let me know.

  • Java operator precedence guidelines

    - by trashgod
Misunderstanding Java operator precedence is a source of frequently asked questions and subtle errors. I was intrigued to learn that even the Java Language Specification says, "It is recommended that code not rely crucially on this specification." JLS §15.7 Preferring clear to clever, are there any useful guidelines in this area? Here are a number of resources on the topic: JLS Operators JLS Precedence Java Glossary Princeton Sun Tutorial University of West Florida Usenet discussion Additions or corrections welcome.

  • Proper Commit Messages

    - by wowus
What are commit messages for? I've always been writing them as an explanation of what I did, but I've recently gotten into a discussion about it with a colleague who writes commit messages explaining why he did. Which one is right, or is there another answer entirely?

  • Reconstructing data from PCAP sniff

    - by Ishi
Hi everyone !! I am trying to sniff HTTP data through libpcap and get all the http contents (header+payload) after processing the TCP payload. As per my discussion at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2905430/writing-an-http-sniffer-or-any-other-application-level-sniffer , I am facing problems due to fragmentation - I need to reconstruct the whole stream (or defragment it) to get a complete HTTP packet, and this is where I need some help. Thanks in anticipation !!

  • F#'s fshtmldoc.exe using Mono/OS X

    - by John Clements
This is doubtless something obvious, but downloading the F# PowerPack from codeplex and running fshtmldoc produces this error: clements$ mono ./fshtmldoc.exe FSharp.PowerPack.dll Processing 'FSharp.PowerPack.dll'... Unexpected failure while writing HTML docs: An exception was thrown by the type initializer for Microsoft.FSharp.Metadata.AssemblyLoader This is using mono 2.6.3, F# 2.0 1.9.9.9, & OS X 10.6.3 on a 32-bit intel processor. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks, John Clements (repost from powerpack online discussion group--no response there)

  • Where is the smallest PHP Forum?

    - by Xeoncross
I know there are minimalist forums out there like punBB - but has anyone ever run into a super tiny forum/discussion system that was barely more than posting comments? Are there any microscopic forums hidden on google code or github? I found a PHP version of ruby's Beast written in CodeIgniter - but it was still pretty large.

  • Good C# Interview Questions for a Senior Dev Position

    - by kronoz
I know there have been a great deal of interview questions posed on SO, however I wondered what sort of questions people here ask at C# interviews, interviewing for a senior developer position. In order to keep this in line with SO principles, please provide a list of questions (or a single question) rather than discussion.

  • Performance of browser plugin based RIA vs. Java Script based RIA

    - by Kabeer
Hello. For my data intensive web application (heavy forms & complex reports), from performance standpoint, which is better ... a browser plug-in based RIA (say SilverLight) or Java Script based RIA (say ExtJS). At this moment, we can avoid the discussion of plug-in availability, etc. My only focus is performance. Reasoning will be appreciated.

  • How do I manage conflict in the workplace?

    - by JoelFan
My workplace has an excessive amount of personal conflict among developers. There are some legitimate technical disagreements involved, but I wish it could be kept to a discussion about issues and not about people. Is there anything I can do about this from my lowly position, being that I don't have any formal leadership role on the team?

  • Facebook Connect: with no javascript?

    - by nafe
Is it possible to write a website that uses Facebook connect without JavaScript? I have a site set up that works great using XFBML but this (obviously) fails when I visit with JavaScript disabled. I have a feeling that this is possible using the REST-api for Facebook but I'd still appreciate some pointers. There was a discussion about this on the Facebook forum.

Any ideas on how to solve this issue?

  • Get ant concat to ignore BOM's'?

    - by Breck Fresen
I have an ant build that concatenates my javascript into one file and then compresses it. The problem is that Visual Studio's default encoding attaches a BOM to every file. How do I configure ant to strip out BOM's that would otherwise appear in the middle of the resulting concatenated file? My googl'ing revealed this discussion which is the exact problem I'm having but doesn't provide a solution: http://marc.info/?l=ant-user&m=118598847927096

One of the requirements of my project is to log who (which Staff) updated what (from what version to what version). UI needs to show who updated entity X at what time and what are updated. • How do I make a SignalR client something when it receives a message?

    - by Ben
    I want to do something when a client receives a message via a SignalR hub. I've put together a basic chat app, but want people to be able to "like" a chat comment. I'm thinking the way to do this is to find the chat message on the client's page and update it using javascript. In the meantime to "prove the concept" I just want to make an alert popup on the client machine to say another user likes the comment. Trouble is, I'm not sure where to put it. (Am struggling to find SignalR documentation to be honest.) can't get my head round what is calling what here. My ChatHub class is as follows: public class ChatHub : Hub { public void Send(string name, string message) { // Call the broadcastMessage method to update clients. Clients.All.broadcastMessage(name, message); } } And my JavaScript is: $(function () { // Declare a proxy to reference the hub. var chat = $.connection.chatHub; // Create a function that the hub can call to broadcast messages. chat.client.broadcastMessage = function (name, message) { // Html encode display name and message. var encodedName = $('<div />').text(name).html(); var encodedMsg = $('<div />').text(message).html(); // Add the message to the page. var divContent = $('#discussion').html(); $('#discussion').html('<div class="container">' + '<div class="content">' + '<p class="username">' + encodedName + '</p>' + '<p class="message">' + encodedMsg + '</p>' + '</div>' + '<div class="slideout">' + '<div class="clickme" onclick="slideMenu(this)"></div>' + '<div class="slidebutton"><img id="imgid" onclick="likeButtonClick(this)" src="Images/like.png" /></div>' + '<div class="slidebutton"><img onclick="commentButtonClick(this)" src="Images/comment.png" /></div>' + '<div class="slidebutton" style="margin-right:0px"><img onclick="redcardButtonClick(this)" src="Images/redcard.png" /></div>' + '</div>' + '</div>' + divContent); }; // Set initial focus to message input box. $('#message').focus(); // Start the connection. $.connection.hub.start().done(function () { $('#sendmessage').click(function () { // Call the Send method on the hub. chat.server.send($('#lblUser').html(), $('#message').val()); // Clear text box and reset focus for next comment. $('#message').val('').focus(); }); });

  • Why should I Use ASP.NET Membership security model?

    - by ListenToRick
I'm updating my website at the moment and figure that if I am to update my login/security mode, now is a good time. I have looked through the Membership model which is included in ASP.NET but I'm convinced that it will provide any benefit apart from being familiar to other .NET deevlopers. There seems to be quite a lot of documentation for it, but little discussion for why its worth the effort. Can anybody shed some light upon this?

  • Who in the software world do you admire the most?

    - by David McGraw
In an effort to spark some discussion and to find interesting people that I didn't know about, is there anybody around the software industry that you really admire? Perhaps admire is the wrong choice of word, but I'm sure there is somebody out there that has impacted you in a minor way. What did you learn from this individual that defines what you try to achieve today?
