  • Slow network file transfer (under 20KB/s) on newly built x64 Win7

    I am getting <20KB/s for local network file transfer. If I transfer a very small file (less than 100KB) it would start quickly then slow down to <20KB/s. all subsequently network file transfer would be slow, a reboot is needed to reset this. If I transfer a large file it would be stuck on calculating for a long time and then begin with <20KB/s immediately. This is a newly built desktop running Windows 7 x64 SP1. Realtek gigabit LAN from the motherboard (ASRock Extreme3 gen3). Problematic speed is observed on the private LAN, both through ethernet and WiFi. The Router is D-Link DIR-655. Remote Differential Compression is off. Drivers are up-to-date from ASRock's website. I have tested network file transfer to and from another Windows 7 laptop and a MacBook Pro, so I am fairly certain it is the desktop's problem. The slow speed only happens with one direction also, outbound from the desktop, regardless of whether I initiate the file transfer action from the origin or the destination. Inbound network file transfer and internet speeds are fine, so I don't think this is a hardware issue. I am getting 74.8MB/s internet upload speed from speedtest.net (http://www.speedtest.net/result/1852752479.png). Inbound network file transfer I can get around 10-15MB/s. I am hoping this community has some insight for me to troubleshoot this. I don't see anything obviously related from the Event Viewer, and beyond that I just don't know where else to look. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

    I've large number of files, over 10,000, which I want to upload in FTP server. Now, I can't zip those files & upload it as I've to read those files individually in SAS software for my analysis. If I use mput commant, then the prompt as me to say "y" eact time it tries to upload the file. This is very cumbersome. Is there any method by which it automatically upload the files without I've to manually entering "y" each time file wants to upload. The command I was using was: ftp ftp.myftp.com *my ftp server name username:myusername password:mypassword ftp> lcd c:\local_folder ftp> mput *.*

    I have read that boost iostreams supposedly supports 64 bit access to large files semi-portable way. Their FAQ mentions 64 bit offset functions, but there is no examples on how to use them. Has anyone used this library for handling large files? A simple example of opening two files, seeking to their middles, and copying one to the other would be very helpful. Thanks.

This tab shows you the local file system associated with the instance and any shared storage libraries mounted by Ops Center. More detailed information about file system storage is available under the Analytics tab under the sub-tab named Charts. Here, you can select and display the individual mount points of an OS, and export the utilization data if desired: In this example, the OS instance has a basic root file partition and several NFS directories. Each file system mount point can be independently chosen for display in the Ops Center chart. File Systems and Incident  Reporting Every asset managed by Ops Center has a "monitoring policy", which determines what represents a reportable issue with the asset. The policy is made up of a bunch of monitoring rules, where each rule describes An attribute to monitor The conditions which represent an issue The level or levels of severity for the issue When the conditions are met, Ops Center sends a notification and creates an incident. By default, OS instances have three monitoring rules associated with file systems: File System Reachability: Triggers an incident if a file system is not reachable NAS Library Status: Triggers an incident for a value of "WARNING" or "DEGRADED" for a NAS-based file system File System Used Space Percentage: Triggers an incident when file system utilization grows beyond defined thresholds You can view these rules in the Monitoring tab for an OS: Of course, the default monitoring rules is that they apply to every file system associated with an OS instance. As a result, any issue with NAS accessibility or disk utilization will trigger an incident. This can cause incidents for file systems to be reported multiple times if the same shared storage is used by many assets, as shown in this screen shot: Depending on the level of control you'd like, there are a number of ways to fine tune incident reporting. Note that any changes to an asset's monitoring policy will detach it from the default, creating a new monitoring policy for the asset. If you'd like, you can extract a monitoring policy from an asset, which allows you to save it and apply the customized monitoring profile to other OS assets. Solution #1: Modify the Reporting Thresholds In some cases, you may want to modify the basic conditions for incident reporting in your file system. The changes you make to a default monitoring rule will apply to all of the file systems associated with your operating system. Selecting the File Systems Used Space Percentage entry and clicking the "Edit Alert Monitoring Rule Parameters" button opens a pop-up dialog which allows you to modify the rule. The first screen lets you decide when you will check for file system usage, and how long you will wait before opening an incident in Ops Center. By default, Ops Center monitors continuously and reports disk utilization issues which exist for more than 15 minutes. The second screen lets you define actual threshold values. By default, Ops Center opens a Warning level incident is utilization rises above 80%, and a Critical level incident for utilization above 95% Solution #2: Disable Incident Reporting for File System If you'd rather not report file system incidents, you can disable the monitoring rules altogether. In this case, you can select the monitoring rules and click the "Disable Alert Monitoring Rule(s)" button to open the pop-up confirmation dialog. Like the first solution, this option affects all file system monitoring. It allows you to completely disable incident reporting for NAS library status or file system space consumption. Solution #3: Create New Monitoring Rules for Specific File Systems If you'd like to have the greatest flexibility when monitoring file systems, you can create entirely new rules. Clicking the "Add Alert Monitoring Rule" (the icon with the green plus sign) opens a wizard which allows you to define a new rule.  This rule will be based on a threshold, and will be used to monitor operating system assets. We'd like to add a rule to track disk utilization for a specific file system - the /nfs-guest directory. To do this, we specify the following attribute FileSystemUsages.name=/nfs-guest.usedSpacePercentage The value of name in the attribute allows us to define a specific NFS shared directory or file system... in the case of this OS, we could have chosen any of the values shown in the File Systems Utilization chart at the beginning of this article. usedSpacePercentage lets us define a threshold based on the percentage of total disk space used. There are a number of other values that we could use for threshold-based monitoring of FileSystemUsages, including freeSpace freeSpacePercentage totalSpace usedSpace usedSpacePercentage The final sections of the screen allow us to determine when to monitor for disk usage, and how long to wait after utilization reaches a threshold before creating an incident. The next screen lets us define the threshold values and severity levels for the monitoring rule: If historical data is available, Ops Center will display it in the screen. Clicking the Apply button will create the new monitoring rule and active it in your monitoring policy. If you combine this with one of the previous solutions, you can precisely define which file systems will generate incidents and notifications. For example, this monitoring policy has the default "File System Used Space Percentage" rule disabled, but the new rule reports ONLY on utilization for the /nfs-guest directory.     I know that it isn't possible to set the value of an input type="file" for security reasons... My problem is: I needed to style an input type="file" so what I did was have a button and hide the file input. like: <a href="#" onclick="$('input[name=&quot;photo1&quot;]').click(); return false;" id="photo1-link"></a> <input type="file" name="photo1" class="fileInput jqtranformdone validate[required]" id="photo1" /> These works great in all browsers except IE which gives me an access denied error on submitting through ajax. I'm using the ajaxSubmit jquery plugin (malsup.com/jquery/form/) So after reading for a while I tried to do: var photo1Val = $('#photo1').val(); var clone1 = $('#photo1').clone().val(photo1Val); $('#photo1').remove(); clone1.appendTo('form'); console.log(photo1Val) //prints the right value C:/fakepath/blablabla.jpg $('form').ajaxSubmit(options); The problem is that after this the value of $('#photo1') is empty... Any ideas how to work around this? Thanks

  • Resumable upload from Java client to Grails web application?

    After almost 2 workdays of Googling and trying several different possibilities I found throughout the web, I'm asking this question here, hoping that I might finally get an answer. First of all, here's what I want to do: I'm developing a client and a server application with the purpose of exchanging a lot of large files between multiple clients on a single server. The client is developed in pure Java (JDK 1.6), while the web application is done in Grails (2.0.0). As the purpose of the client is to allow users to exchange a lot of large files (usually about 2GB each), I have to implement it in a way, so that the uploads are resumable, i.e. the users are able to stop and resume uploads at any time. Here's what I did so far: I actually managed to do what I wanted to do and stream large files to the server while still being able to pause and resume uploads using raw sockets. I would send a regular request to the server (using Apache's HttpClient library) to get the server to send me a port that was free for me to use, then open a ServerSocket on the server and connect to that particular socket from the client. Here's the problem with that: Actually, there are at least two problems with that: I open those ports myself, so I have to manage open and used ports myself. This is quite error-prone. I actually circumvent Grails' ability to manage a huge amount of (concurrent) connections. Finally, here's what I'm supposed to do now and the problem: As the problems I mentioned above are unacceptable, I am now supposed to use Java's URLConnection/HttpURLConnection classes, while still sticking to Grails. Connecting to the server and sending simple requests is no problem at all, everything worked fine. The problems started when I tried to use the streams (the connection's OutputStream in the client and the request's InputStream in the server). Opening the client's OutputStream and writing data to it is as easy as it gets. But reading from the request's InputStream seems impossible to me, as that stream is always empty, as it seems. But as that is exactly what I'm trying to do (so I can stream the file to be uploaded to the server, read from the InputStream and save it to a file), this is rather disappointing. I tried different HTTP methods, different data payloads, and also rearranged the code over and over again, but did not seem to be able to solve the problem. What I hope to find I hope to find a solution to my problem, of course. Anything is highly appreciated: hints, code snippets, library suggestions and so on. Maybe I'm even having it all wrong and need to go in a totally different direction. So, how can I implement resumable file uploads for rather large (binary) files from a Java client to a Grails web application without manually opening ports on the server side?

    I have a column of product views in a database (e.g. top, bottom, front, back). I'm trying to generate a series of file inputs to allow the user to upload an image for each view. This is the result I'm after: ... <label>Top</label> <input type="file" name="image[Top]"><br> <label>Bottom</label> <input type="file" name="image[Bottom]"><br> <label>Front</label> <input type="file" name="image[Front']"><br> ... This is what I'm trying: <%= views = View.order('name ASC').all.map { |view| [view.name, view.id] } %> <%= views.each { |view| label(view); file_field('image', view) } %> However, all this does is print out the views array a couple of times. Hopefully you Rails experts can point me in the right direction. (I apologize in advance if I'm butchering Ruby.)

    I'm working through a small file upload script (learning experience) and I noticed that when selecting microsoft office related files (.doc or .docx for example) the file objects do not have a type specified: For .doc files I had expected the type to be "application/msword" and along the same train of thought .docx to be "application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document". In the cases when the type cannot be determined is the correct course of action to look at the file extension and match that to the "expected" content / mime type?   • Overwhelmed by complex C#/ASP.NET project in Visual Studio 2008

    I have been hired as a junior programmer to work on projects that extend existing functionality in a very large, complex solution. The code base consists of C#, ASP.NET, jQuery, javascript, html and xml. I have some knowledge of all these in addition to fair knowledge of object-oriented programming and its fundamental concepts of inheritance, abstraction, polymorphism and encapsulation. I can follow code up through its base classes, interfaces, abstract classes and understand a large part of the code that I read while doing this. However, this solution is so humongous and so many things get tied together whenever I navigate through the code that I feel absolutely overwhelmed. I often find myself unable to fully follow everything that is going on with objects being serialized, large amounts of C# and javascript operating on the same pages and methods being called from template files that consist mainly of markup. I love learning about code, but trying to deal with this really stresses me out. Additionally, I do know that a significant amount of unit testing has been done but I know nothing about unit testing or how to utilize it. Any advice anyone could offer me regarding dealing with a large code base while using Visual Studio 2008 would be greatly appreciated. Are there tools that I can use to help get a handle on what is going on? Perhaps there are things even in Visual Studio that I am not aware of. How can I follow the code to low level functionality in order to get a better grasp of what is going on at a high level?

  • Bundler isn't loading gems

    I have been having a problem with using Bundler and being able to access my gems without having to require them somewhere, as config.gem used to do that for me (as far as I know). same goes for any other gem.     A client has the admin ability to upload a PDF to their respective directory and have it listed on their website. All of this works dandy until a PDF reaches a certain file size that makes the server time out. This causes an error and the file uploaded will not succeed. As mentioned in the title, we are using ColdFusion with a command. Is there any java/jquery/flash modules or applications that could resolve this issue?

    How can I copy a file using DOS commands into a directory structure that may not yet exist? I need to be able to force the creation of the directory path to the target file location if that location doesn't already exist. For example, there is already a file.txt in this location: C:\file.txt And I want to copy it to C:\example\new\path\to\copy\of\file\file.txt but at this time C:\example\ and all the subdirectories may or may not yet exist. Basically, I am looking for a "copy and create the target path if necessary" command. What would you recommend is the best way to achieve this?

    Hi, I have 3 Windows 2008 Standard servers in my system with no domain controller. Two of the servers are running a NLB cluster and the third server is a file server that the web servers connect to. I want to store my source code on the file server and point the IIS config to the network file share. The web sites also need access to a file share on the file server. I was able to share the network drive and access while logged into either of the web servers but my web apps are unable to access the file share - I assume due to permissions. Does anybody know the correct way to do this? Thanks, Chris

    I'm running the music player Foobar2000 through Wine at startup. For some reason when I shutdown Ubuntu the Foobar2000 process is ended abnormally in Wine and when it runs next time I get an annoying "start in safe mode?" message. Not a huge problem, but I'd like it fixed. The safe mode message only appears if a file called "running" is present when Foobar2000 starts (if it isn't deleted when closed properly). So by deleting "running" then starting Foobar2000, the message doesn't appear. I thought it would be easy enough to enter this as a startup command, however it doesn't want to work. The command I am using is rm '/home/henry/.wine/drive_c/users/henry/Application Data/foobar2000/running';'/home/henry/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/foobar2000/foobar2000.exe' which works fine if I just run it from terminal, the file is deleted then foobar2000 runs. Does anyone know why this isn't working at startup? Also, will this run with a terminal visible? How can I make just the gui appear? Thanks

But this is for AVI only. I use some wine apps (uTorrent, Soulseek, Eudora, to name a few) that can launch a wide range of files. Email attachments, for example, can be JPG, DOC, PDF, PPS... its impossible (and not desirable) to track down all possible file types that one may receive in an email or download in a torrent. So I neeed a solution to be more generic and broad. I need the file association to honor whatever native app is currently configured. And I want this to be done for all file types configured in my system. I've already figured out how to make the solution generic. Simply replacing the launched app in .reg for winebrowser, like this: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pdf] @="PDFfile" "Content Type"="application/pdf" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PDFfile\Shell\Open\command] @="C:\\windows\\system32\\winebrowser.exe \"%1\"" Ive tested this and it works correctly. Since winebrowser uses xdg-open as a backend, and converts my windows path to a Unix one, the correct (Linux) app is launched. So I need a "batch" updater to wine's registry, sort of a wine-update-associations script that I can run whenever a new app is installed. Maybe a tool that can: List all Mime Types types in my system that have a default, installed app associated Extract all the needed info (glob, mime type, etc) Generate the .REG file in the above format The tricky part is: i've searched a LOT to find info about how association is done in Ubuntu 10.10 onwards, and documentation is scarce and confusing, to say the least. Freedesktop.org has no complete spec, and even Gnome docs are obsolete. So far I've gathered 4 files that contain association info, but im clueless on which (or why) to use, or how to use them to generate the .reg file: ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list ~/.local/share/applications/miminfo.cache /usr/share/applications/miminfo.cache /etc/gnome/defaults.list Any help, script or explanation would be greatly appreciated!     I have a Zend_Form with file element like this: ->addElement('file', 'image', array( 'required' => false, 'label' => 'Venue Image', 'validators' => array( array('IsImage', false), array('Size', false, '2097152'), array('Upload', false), ), )) And when I'm using localhost the image is uploaded successfully. But when I move to my hosting the validation error shows for image field. The mimetype of file 'foto.jpg' could not be detected. What can be the reason of this?

  • Processing file uploads before object is saved

    I've got a model like this: class Talk(BaseModel): title = models.CharField(max_length=200) mp3 = models.FileField(upload_to = u'talks/', max_length=200) seconds = models.IntegerField(blank = True, null = True) I want to validate before saving that the uploaded file is an MP3, like this: def is_mp3(path_to_file): from mutagen.mp3 import MP3 audio = MP3(path_to_file) return not audio.info.sketchy Once I'm sure I've got an MP3, I want to save the length of the talk in the seconds attribute, like this: audio = MP3(path_to_file) self.seconds = audio.info.length The problem is, before saving, the uploaded file doesn't have a path (see this ticket, closed as wontfix), so I can't process the MP3. I'd like to raise a nice validation error so that ModelForms can display a helpful error ("You idiot, you didn't upload an MP3" or something). Any idea how I can go about accessing the file before it's saved? p.s. If anyone knows a better way of validating files are MP3s I'm all ears - I also want to be able to mess around with ID3 data (set the artist, album, title and probably album art, so I need it to be processable by mutagen).
