  • How to get cells to default to zero or calculate additonal fees, based on selection from a drop-down list

    I am building a Pay Rate Calculator worksheet with a Flat/Base pay rate & numerous Overtime pay rates. I would like to be able to have the "Overtime" pay rate cells to change depending on my selection from my drop-down list. My list selections are "Flat Rate" and "Compounding". 1) If I select "Flat Rate" how can I make all the "Overtime" cell rates and totals default to zero or calculate to zero, to show the user there is no overtime rates to be applied to this job and to use the one rate to pay? 2)And if I select "Compounding" the Overtime rate cells are updated to add/include additional fees, to show the user Overtime rates apply to the job and penalties have automatically been calculated on top for them. Please explain like I'm a 2 year old - learning as I go. Many thanks :)

  • Where does the convention come from to use F9 for refresh?

    Although in Windows F5 is the common (though not at all mnemonically appropriate!) keystroke to refresh the contents of a window, I've seen at least two different applications that use F9. One is the much-maligned Lotus Notes (which is actually quite good if you can overlook the abysmal user interface ;), and the other is muCommander. Since Lotus Notes has other non-standard conventions that apparently are borrowed from other places (such as Esc to close a Window) and because it's unlikely to be a source of influence for many applications, I'm betting both apps borrow from a common source (even if indirectly). What is that source? Where does F9 as the refresh key come from?

  • How to prevent Google Website Optimizer from making Google Analytics spike Direct Traffic and lower Bounce Rate?

    I am using Google Website Optimizer (GWO) and Google Analytics. Whenever a person (Google Website Optimizer) does a javascript redirect, Google Analytics will change the referrer. When the referrer changes, the traffic source becomes yourself and is changed to Direct Traffic. For Example: A visitor goes to google: searches for my great service. Clicks the link that goes to website page: /home/ At this point, Google Analytics tracks the referrer as Google. However, /home/ has a GWO javacript redirect to a battery of A/B tests. /home-1/ or /home-2/ or /home-3/ When the redirect from /home/ occurs to /home-1/, google analytics on the /home-1/ page now thinks the referrer is yourself and converts the referrer to Direct Traffic since the Direct Traffic bucket is the unknown. I'm really surprised that GWO and GA do this when they both come from google. Now, How does one fix this to prevent the overwrite of the referrer using GWO?

  • Does swf provide better compress rate than zlib for png image?

    Somebody told me that when a png image is stored in swf, it's separated to several layer, hence the alpha channel can be compressed better. Is it true? Or, once png image is imported into a swf, it's format is changed, e.g converted into bitmap data, and than compressed by swf's compress algorithm. That's, it is not in png format anymore. I don't know how swf packing its resource, please tell me if you know.

    I may be an alien around here, but here's my problem: the speed limit on old Ubuntu releases (= before 11) was very very fast. It was really great for me. Now, on Ubuntu 11, they may have thought: "who will ever want that speed? Nobody! So let's put the maximum speed to a lower limit". It's so stupid that they tried to narrow down the speed to some other famous OS. If Linux is more powerful, why remove some of its power? I don't get that. So is there any way to override that speed limit and get my keyboard as fast as it is on other previous versions?

What I know I can track is: -what products people view on my website (default Google Analytics pageview behaviour). -what affiliate links people click on my website (with GA _trackEvent). What am I missing is: -what products people end up buying after clicking on the affiliate links. Does the Amazon affiliate program offers you any mechanism for linking a purchase with some data from your website? I noticed that I was able to add custom parameters and values to my affiliate links and the link checker was still happy with them, if Amazon gave the links that initiated an order then I would be able to cross reference the orders using custom parameters...

  • Is it possible to rate limit based on host headers? i.e. not just on ip address

    I have a web service endpoint that I am building where people will post an xml file to, and it will really get pounded with over 1K requests per second. Now they are sending in these xml files via http post, but a good majority of them will be rate limited. The problem is, the rate limiting will be done by the web application by looking up the source_id in the xml, and if it is over x requests per minute, it will not be processed further. I was wondering if I could do rate limit checking earlier in the processing somehow and thus save the 50K file going threw the pipeline to my web servers and eating up resources. Could a load balancer make a call out to verify rate usage somehow? If this is possible, I could maybe put the source_id in a host header so even the XML file doesn't have to be parsed and loaded into memory. Is it possible to just look at host headers and not load up the entire 50K xml file into memory? I really appreciate your insights as this takes more knowledge of the entire tcp/ip stack etc.

For some weird reason google analytics shows a 49.7 percent bounce rate - I'm quite suprised as to why and how is this possible. My web application works well - I've never been bounced off even once whenever I visit it from any browser. What's going on I have no idea what to look out for here?

  • Wireless Connected But No Internet Connection (Ubuntu 12.04)

    I am using same network for 2 days and everything was normal. However, today even though it shows me as connected to the network, I do not have internet connection. If I use ethernet cable instead of wireless, I am still able to connect to the internet. Also my friends are able to connect to the wireless network and they can get internet connection. I did not update or install anything since yesterday. Therefore I do not have any idea why it is happening. It seems RCP is geared towards the use case where this changes only when a selection changes.     Yeah it's just the initial browser load or two after a cache clear. Subsequent refreshes clear the problem up. I'm thinking the item views just aren't fully constructed in time to be used in the collection views on the first load. But then they are on a refresh? Don't know. There must be something about the code sequence or loading or the load time itself. Not sure. I'm loading via require.js. Have two collections - users and messages. Each renders in its own list view. Each works, just not the first time or two the browser loads. The first time you load after clearing browser cache the console reports, for instance: "Uncaught ReferenceError: MessageItemView is not defined" A simple browser refresh clears it up. Same goes for the user collection. It's collection view says it doesn't know anything about its item view. But a simple browser refresh and all is well. My views (item and collection) are in separate files. Is that the problem? For instance, here is my message collection view in its own file: messagelistview.js var MessageListView = Marionette.CollectionView.extend({ itemView: MessageItemView, el: $("#messages") }); And the message item view is in a separate file: messageview.js var MessageItemView = Marionette.ItemView.extend({ tagName: "div", template: Handlebars.compile( '<div>{{fromUserName}}:</div>' + '<div>{{message}}</div>' + ) }); Then in my main module file, which references each of those files, the collection view is constructed and displayed: main.js //Define a model MessageModel = Backbone.Model.extend(); //Make an instance of MessageItemView - code in separate file, messagelistview.js MessageView = new MessageItemView(); //Define a message collection var MessageCollection = Backbone.Collection.extend({ model: MessageModel }); //Make an instance of MessageCollection var collMessages = new MessageCollection(); //Make an instance of a MessageListView - code in separate file, messagelistview.js var messageListView = new MessageListView({ collection: collMessages }); App.messageListRegion.show(messageListView); Do I just have things sequenced wrong? Now i need to refresh the page so certain data is correct (such as session id if the cookie expires or user logs out before submitting). I refresh and lose all data.     I am currently writing an interal advertising system for a company client's website, where the adverts will only be seen by internal users, and all transactions take place internally to the site (i.e. the adverts are for member-only content available on the site). Does anyone have any recommendations as to the best way to track the conversion rate of these adverts (i.e. views:clicks:sales)? EDIT I'm not looking for a 'Why don't you use google analystics'-type answer, I'm looking into possible architecture outlines, i.e. a 'why don't use store a guid in a cache temporarily and see if it ties to the advert' kind of answer. /EDIT In a previous job I did something based on an internal cache, which simply did view:click tracking, however the addition of the sales rate makes this task more complex, especially if we take into account the idea that someone may click through to an advert and not purchase immediately.     Basically I'm using the following code to set the baud rate of a serial port: struct termios options; tcgetattr(fd, &options); cfsetispeed(&options, B115200); cfsetospeed(&options, B115200); tcsetattr(fd, TCSANOW, &options); This works very well. But know I have to communicate with a device that uses a baud rate of 307200. How can I set that? cfsetispeed(&options, B307200); doesn't work, there is no B307200 defined.

For example, assuming the coin is at 10 flipping per second when it starts how long will it take to stop? For each second (9, 8, 7, 6 ... 3, 2, 1, stop), how is the flipping rate changed? Friction can be approximated as some real world objects (say, a metallic coin on a wooden table). Thanks!

    I've looked at Amazon S3 and it costs roughly $4746 per month for 100 megabits/s (which translates into 31,640 Gigabytes of data transferred. That's at a rate of $0.15 per gig.) I haven't found a cheaper "cloud" option. I'm curious if there's any other cloud hosting option out there cheaper than S3. Uptime is not an issue because I can build failover for most things into the browser. e.g. I can use javascript to say "if the image didn't load then go to this other URL instead." FYI I'm currently using a colocation facility which is about 30% cheaper than S3 and I'm familiar with colo prices - so this question is really about "cloud" services and by that I mean services where I don't have to worry about the infrastructure.

    I am doing some rate-limiting with IPtables, and i'm not sure if I should use "Recent" or "Limit" What are the differences between the two? If they both achieve the same result, which one has better performance? I would like to know, regardless if any difference would be perceivable. I am looking to ACCEPT if under limit, and REJECT if over. I'm not interested in thus bandwidth throttling, I don't want a queue. I don't need any syntax examples, both have ample use examples online. I have also used Limit in the past. I appreciate any responses.
