  I'm trying to restore my deja-dup backup from a certain date. However during restore after selecting the date to restore from i get a "restoring... "preparing"..." window that just seems stuck there doing nothing forever (past 1/2 hour). There was a point when i was prompted for the "encryption password" but i don't remember it, so i just entered one. I never got any error if the password i entered was not accepted.

  Hi all, I was working gladly with my VM on my local Hyper-V server. But, after installing some updates on the host the system only show the famous blue screen. I couldn't start my host so I reinstalled it and configured as new Hyper-V server. My VM was in a another disk to prevent this happening but I don't know how to add it as a new VM on new server. In addition, this VM has various snapshots so, how can I add this VM to my new Hyper-V server? UPDATE: I can't do Export/Import because my server crashed before I can't do it.

  I have been reading up on memento pattern from various sources of the internet. Differing information from different sources has left me in confusion regarding why this pattern is actually needed. The dofactory implementation says that the primary intention of this pattern is to restore the state of the system. Wiki says that the primary intention is to be able to restore the changes on the system. This gives a different impact - saying that it is possible for a system to have memento implementation with no need to restore. And that ability of restore is a feature of this. OODesign says that It is sometimes necessary to capture the internal state of an object at some point and have the ability to restore the object to that state later in time. Such a case is useful in case of error or failure. So, my question is why exactly do we use this one? Is it to save previous states - or to promote encapsulation between the Caretaker and the Memento? Why is this type of encapsulation so important? • How can I restore my laptop from Windows 7 to its original Windows Vista recovery partition?

  I bought my Acer laptop 4 years ago with Vista Home Premium x86. It has a recovery partition that I have used successfully in the past to format everything and reinstall Windows to factory settings. I have since upgraded to Windows 7, but I now need to get back to my original installation. Not sure what it's called, but I can successfully get into this recovery thingy: However, when I click the third option (for me I think it says 'Windows Image Recovery' or something like that) it tells me that it can't find any images to recover from :( I have checked and I don't have a windows.old that I can recover from either. One final note, if I launch diskmgmt.msc, these are the partitions: Why is the first partition shaded? Does that mean anything? Both of the 'unlettered' partitions are 100% empty. Did the Windows 7 upgrade process format my Vista system recovery partition?! And finally: How can I get back to my factory settings? EDIT: I did see this question, but neither of the answers apply to my situation. Edit to address jdh's answer: From what I can tell, I never get the option to boot the Vista recovery partition. After hitting F10, I get this screen, except it's partition 2, and I don't have the IN/MINT bit: I hit Escape, and then I get this screen, except without Ubuntu listed, and without the auto-countdown thing: I hit F8, and then I get this screen: I hit Enter on the first option, I end up at the screen in the first screen shot. As I said, from there I click the third option, and it fails to find the image, which I guess makes sense if it's only looking for a Windows 7 recovery. So I either need to make the Windows 7 tool see the Vista recovery partition, or I need the boot loader (?) to let me select Vista earlier in the process. Any ideas?

  I had a server that was decommissioned & replaced last year, and since the server was no longer in use, I deleted it's client & backup policy from the NetBackup Admin Console shortly afterwards. I recently got a request to restore a file from the old server, however when I specify the source client for the restore, I get an error message saying: WARNING: server (backupserver) does not contain any backups for client (oldserver) using the specified policy type (Standard) as requested by client (backupserver). [Ok] In addition to that error, I can't seem to run a Client Backup report on the old client any more to determine what tapes I need to recall in order to re-index and restore the files... My questions: Does deleting the client somehow remove NetBackups ability to ever restore files from the old system, even if the backups have a retention period of infinity? Is there a way to restore the file from the tape, assuming I can figure out which tape I need?

• Can I restore one of my user's profiles in Vista?

  My youngest daughter uses my 4 year old laptop, which has Windows Vista installed. Somehow she got some Trojan (Vista Internet Security). (I'd love to know how that happened, seeing as how she is a standard user, and I have VIPRE as my AV.) Anyway, I ran a deep anti-virus scan using VIPRE, which identified it. I decided to delete everything that it identified. Now she cannot use anything in her profile. If she tries to bring up the browser, it recycles over and over again a dialog box asking which program to use. If I try to run any program at all, it doesn't know what to do. For example, it is totally lost trying to run the command line. If I bring up Windows Explorer and navigate to Windows\System32 and try to run the command line, or anything at all from there, it goes "Huh?" What in heck has happened?? Is it possible to fix this, and if so, how? As an aside, I can log into my account (my account on that machine is an administrator) and it works fine.

  Lately I've been having trouble restoring my PC after uninstalling GRUB, and an Ubuntu install from it. Usually I don't encounter any problems when doing this, but this time is different. My Windows XP (NTFS) partition is listed as "Other" in Partition Magic, and "Unknown" in GParted rather than "NTFS". How can I gain access to Windows partition once again? I am more than willing to provide any information, and run any tests necessary to produce said information in order to find out what's going on here.   I use alsa, and I don't have a volume control applet on my Gnome Panel. When I right click and select "add to panel", there is nothing that has to do with "sound", "audio" or "volume" in the list, and the "Indicator Applet" or "Indicator Applet Session" things have no volume controls, or properties that would let you enable any sort of volume control. How can I get a volume control in Ubuntu, so I don't have to run aumix in a terminal or something? I've been using Linux since Redhat 5, it's beyond me why these sorts of problems are still around. Someone should just put a damn "Volume Control" element in the list of things to add to the panel, even if it doesn't work, perhaps showing an error message.

Whenever the host loses network connectivity the VMs never get their connection back until I reboot the machine (which I have to do right after I finish writing this).   I have been told that it's good practise to keep your SQL Server data files and log files on physically separate disks, because it'll allow you to recover your data to the point of failure if the data drive fails. So... let's say that mydata.mdf is on drive D:, and my mydata_log.ldf is on drive E:, and it's 16:45, and drive D: has just died horribly. So - I have last night's full backup (mydata.bak). I have hourly transaction-log backups that will bring the data back up to 16:00... but that means I'll lose 45 minutes worth of updates. I still have mydata_log.ldf on the E: drive, which should contain EVERY transaction that was committed right up to the point where the drive failed. How do I go about recreating the database and restoring data from the backup file and the live transaction log, so I don't lose any updates? Is this possible?

  I've tried using "Cache My Work" (http://cachemywork.codeplex.com/), but unfortunately, it only restores one instance of a program that was open upon rebooting. So when I have five separate Adobe Acrobat Pro windows open (each with its own PDF document), when I reboot, Cache My Work will only reopen one of them (not sure how CMW chooses which PDF to reopen, either). Besides switching to another PDF program (like one with tabs), is there a program that can do this?

  I usually work with a lot of instances of visual studio open to different projects, I was wondering if there is a way to snapshot/hibernate a running process to disk instead of closing it so that I can open it in the same state as it was quickly.   I, by error, deleted my stored passwords, using the "Wise disc cleaner 7" program. As I saw on another thread, the passwords are stored in 2 files signons.sqlite and the encryption key file key3.db When opening the file signons.sqlite with the text editor, I can see that the web adresses of the sites belonging to the passwords are still there. They have not been deleted by the "Wise disc cleaner 7" program, and adding a stored password on Firefox just modifies the file. However, Firefox will not display my old stored passwords and neither their respective sites. Is there any way to "undelete" the passwords?

When I go to TaskRestore Transaction log is dimmed/disabled. 4) I checked ManagementMaintenance Plans. I can't find any restored point there. It seems that our maintenance plan hasn't been working.   We have a web based application that run on an Intranet. For various reasons, we are constrained to using Win XP and the version of IIS that ships with it, 5.1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325889 talks about backing up IIS, but the sentence: "This backup method does not work if you reinstall your operating system." makes me nervous. Our main reason for backing up is in the event of catastrophic failure, which would certainly mean reinstalling the operating system. I imagine there must be a fairly painless mechanism for backing up and restoring to a fresh machine (or moving to a different one), but I have not found it. Also this is instructions for manually backing up. An automated process would be even better. thanks!

  Hi there, I have an algorithm for creating the sieve of Eratosthenes and pulling primes from it. It lets you enter a max value for the sieve and the algorithm gives you the primes below that value and stores these in a c-style array. Problem: Everything works fine with values up to 500.000, however when I enter a large value -while running- it gives me the following error message in xcode: Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_ACCESS”. warning: Unable to restore previously selected frame. Data Formatters temporarily unavailable, will re-try after a 'continue'. (Not safe to call dlopen at this time.) My first idea was that I didn't use large enough variables, but as I am using 'unsigned long long int', this should not be the problem. Also the debugger points me to a point in my code where a point in the array get assigned a value. Therefore I wonder is there a maximum limit to an array? If yes: should I use NSArray instead? If no, then what is causing this error based on this information? EDIT: This is what the code looks like (it's not complete, for it fails at the last line posted).
