Now all my sites have spurious errors and execution time outs. Originally updated with VC9 build but then realised error and updated with VC6 (with same problem).     I asked this question on stackoverflow and it was suggested that I try it here: I'm building a website where users can upload photos and I'd also convert uploaded photos into thumbnails. Planning ahead, if the website gets popular, how do I scale it out so that the images (both original and thumbnails) will be stored in and served from multiple servers? Maybe a cluster?     I am examining a high-volume Apache prefork site and noticing that many log entries such as: CustomLog '|/foo/bar/cronolog -foo -bar' RewriteLog '|/foo/bar/cronolog -bar -foo' When apache logs the request or the rewrite is cronolog spawned for EACH request or is the pipe opened and written-to for the lifetime duration of the preforked apache process? (This was asked on stackoverflow but I'll remove from there as more applicable here I think.)

    I know of FireShot, a firefox extension, for saving up whole pages of images. And I love it. Great idea, and a very good implementation. But unfortunatelly, often on this kind of sites, you have links which get lost that way. So I'm wondering, is there a way to save in the same manner whole blog posts, wiki posts, StackOverflow posts :), as PDF files, so the links get saved as well ?

    I have the following directory structure for my websites: /var/www/sitename/subdomain/(public|log) e.g /var/www/stackoverflow.com/careers/public/index.html Can I make a single generic nginx configuration to do this? So that every domain is mapped to the right directory? I would not like to edit my nginx configuration for every website I add. The root domain can always be mapped to the www subdomain.

    I have several chrooted users on my server, and I want to install git for specific users. I block at the command : git config --global user.name "user_name" I use this command connected as the user, and I got this error : error: could not lock config file /home/username/.gitconfig: Permission denied I tried to create the file from root, and then put chmod 755 and chown username .gitconfig, but I get the error.   • Do all web caches understand the "Cache-Control" HTTP header?

    I'd like to avoid the "Expires" header, and use "Cache-Control" only - or maybe the other way around. The headers will account for a significant percentage of my traffic, so I'd prefer not to "use both". AFAIK, the "Cache-Control" header was standardized in HTTP 1.1, but are there still web caches/proxies in use, which don't understand it? Note: This could help answering a part of my stackoverflow (bounty) question

  • secure data transport between web server and database server

    I asked this question in stackoverflow and it was suggested to try here so here goes... I'm planning on provisioning a web server and database server in a server farm environment. They will be in the same network but not in the same domain, both windows server 2008 and the database server is sql server 2008. My question being, what is the best way to secure data in transport between the servers? I've looked into IPSEC and SSL but not sure how to go about implementing either.

    I'm doing some massive DB cleanups at the moment. We have two DBs both approaching 400GB and I'm wanting to split the DB's into departments. To do that I need to know the total size of mailboxes within an OU. I've run this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9796101/exchange-listing-mailboxes-in-an-ou-with-their-mailbox-size but this only gives me a list and I need a combined totalitemsize so know how big I need the new DB's to be.     Hi, I have installed Suse Enterprise desktop in VMWare work station, and out company provides proxy for internet access. I am able to browse through the guest operating system( SLED ) but I am unable to log in to any web accounts like stackoverflow,google etc... It just times out And also after setting network proxy in Eclipse I am unable to install or update any plugins. Can anybody help me in diagnosing this issue.
