• PHP: report table with date gaps

  Hi. I have a table in DB which contains summaries for days. Some days may not have the values. I need to display table with results where each column is a day from user selected range. I've tried to play with timestamp (end_date - start_date / 86400 - how many days in report, then use DATEDIFF(row_date, 'user_entered_start_date') and create array from this indexes), but now I've got whole bunch of workarounds for summer time :( Any examples or ideas how to make this correct? P.S. I need to do this on PHP side, because DB is highly loaded.

• PHP Time Zone Adjustment

  I have a time that is being sent to me in UTC time, but I want to adjust it so its the outer edges of the days on East Coast time (EST/EDT). That is, I want the user to be able to enter in EDT/EST centric dates, and have it query with the UTC correct dates. $start_date and $end_date are MM/DD/YYYY formatted dates passed via a GET variable. $start_date = date('Y-m-d 00:00:00', $start_date); $end_date = date('Y-m-d 23:59:59', $end_date); These dates are for use in a database query, whose times are stored in UTC time. So, I want the start date to be the day before at 8pm or 7pm, depending on daylight savings, and then to end at 7:59:59 or 6:59:59, again depending on daylight savings. How would I do that?

• Distributing cpu-bound compression jobs to multiple computers?

  The other day I needed to archive a lot of data on our network and I was frustrated I had no immediate way to harness the power of multiple machines to speed-up the process. I understand that creating a distributed job management system is a leap from a command-line archiving tool. I'm now wondering what the simplest solution to this type of distributed performance scenario could be. • Password remember does not work properly

  On the website I am working on it has been deployed but the problem I am facing is that when I enter a username and password and click on the check box to remember...It remembers the password for sometime.. wen I login in after 5 or 10 minutes it remembers the password but aftr a long period of time like about 2hours it forgets the username and password and i have to type it in all over again... this dint used to happen with the old server as even I could sign in and it remembered the password the next day until i log off... what can be the reason The session state im using is:

  For the sanity of my users, I want a 'mouseover' event to run after the selector has been hovered for half a second rather than as soon as they hover it. I first tried a setTimeout function but that runs however long the element has been hovered, I didn't think it through too much I guess. I've also spent a day (on and off) searching (and playing Pacman) ti no result, unless I'm searching for the wrong things. • Jquery: is there a VERY light-weight lightbox available?

  I'm looking for an extremely light-weight lightbox for jquery. i'm trying to create my own but i suck and my fist is about to go through the screen.... i'm talking like 5kb or less.. i know it can be done, and if i knew what i was doing i'd do it... but i'm just done for the day. So, does anyone know of one? something just for images, and nothing else, no fancy crap, no extra weight, one that simply centers the lightbox in the center of the screen with whatever picture was loaded by the link. my screen will thank you...

  Hi there Suppose I have a database containing 500,000 records, each representing, say, an animal. What would be the best approach for parsing 140 character tweets to identify matching records by animal name? For instance, in this string... "I went down to the woods to day and couldn't believe my eyes: I saw a bear having a picnic with a squirrel." ... I would like to flag up the words "bear" and "squirrel", as they appear in my database. This strikes me as a problem that has probably been solved many times, but from where I'm sitting it looks prohibitively intensive - iterating over every db record checking for a match in the string is surely a crazy way to do it. Can anyone with a comp sci degree put me out of my misery? I'm working in C# if that makes any difference. Cheers!

  I've been racking my brain about how to do this in one query without PHP code. In a nutshell, I have a table that records email activity. For the sake of this example, here is the data: recipient_id activity date 1 delivered 2011-08-30 1 open 2011-08-31 2 delivered 2011-08-30 3 delivered 2011-08-24 3 open 2011-08-30 3 open 2011-08-31 The goal: I want to display to users a single number that tells how many recipients open their email within 24 hours. E.G. "Users that open their email within 24 hours: 13 Readers" In the case of the sample data, above, the value would be "1". (Recipient one was delivered an email and opened it the next day. Recipient 2 never opened it and recipient 3 waited 5 days.) Can anyone think of a way to express the goal in a single query? Reminder: In order to count, the person must have a 'delivered' tag and at least one 'open' tag. Each 'open' tag only counts once per recipient.

Spreadsheet format: Variable range = # of days to sum Date range = listed in row 1, 1 day per cell (example A1=1/1/10, B1=1/2/10, C1=1/3/10....)   I have mysql table called user(id, name, join_on) join on is a date field what I want is to show in each day how many uses has been created I can use group by but it will only give me the dates when users get added like if date 4/12/10 5 users added 4/13/10 2 users added 4/15/10 7 users added here date 4/14/10 is missing and I want listing of all dates in one month. I have one solution for it by creating another table only for adding date and that table will left join my users table on join_on and will give total result but I don't want to do that as for creating that I need to create and add entries in date table please suggest the different approach for doing so. I'm now wondering what features of MySQL I can safely use without noticing one day that "Oh, well, that crappy hoster has disabled feature X, damn, now I'm screwed." So my question is, which of these features can become problematic (= can be disabled, require special configuration, require user privilege): transactions and FKs in InnoDB (of course unavailable to MyISAM) table locking (MyISAM and InnoDB) stored procedures I just want to know once and for all what's the minimal feature set I can expect from MySQL.

  Hi, I have a financial cube and i have to calculate Daily Sales Outstanding as : Number of Days between the selected month last date and the earliest transaction date when cummulative sum of Revenue from last date of the month till the date where sum revenue <= the debt amount for the date . e.g On 31/12/2009 my debt amount = 2,500,000 31-Dec-09 30-Nov-09 15-Oct-09 31-Oct-09 Revenue 1,000,000 1,000,000 500,000 1,0000 Cummulative sum of revenue 1,000,000 2,00,000 2,500,000 4,000,000 No of Days 31 30 16 On 15/Oct/09 cummulative revenue is 2,500,000 which equals my debt amount on that day Count of Days = 31 + 31 + 16 = 76 Days. In other words Sum Revenue from the selected date backwards until sum total equals or exeeds the total to date balance of the debtors. Any help will be highly appreciated .   I am using djcelery 2.1.4 with ghettoq 0.4.5 and django 1.2.3 and I am able to run tasks all day long, but when I try to use any broadcast functionality it fails without errors. Take the simplest case -- I run celeryd: python manage.py celeryd The daemon starts and I try to run a ping: >>> from celery.task.control import ping >>> ping() [] I can see the message that ping created appear in the database, but apparently none of the nodes are picking it up? Am I doing something wrong here? Does broadcast not work with carrot?

  I've been writing Windows Services for a while and they always seem to work fine for things that need to run every day, few times a week, once a month, etc. but I've been lately thinking about going with Windows Workflow Foundation. However, I am unsure how would they run on a server without some container application (for instance SharePoint)? I worked with Sharepoint workflows before and I always had huge problems, at first with the bugs in the workflow architecture implementation (the problems with sleep and delay) and later when they eventually started to work, they were difficult to manage and change. On the other hand Windows Services were always quite easy to implement, easy to create a setup for them and install them and they were always quite resilient (they were often working for months without crashing or something else going wrong). What do you recommend? Please bear in mind we are working in .NET (version is of no problem, if 4.0 brings something new on this subject, we can use it).

  Is there a way to reference the colours used in the jQuery themes without creating a simple style for each theme that I may choose to use? Example: I have some text as follows <div>Hello</div> which I'd like to be change colour in line with my theme of the day. I wish to use the primary colour from a theme (say ui-lightness) which is "#1c94c4" as defined in several of the styles such as ui-state-default in ui-lightness.css The problem is that if I do the following <div class='ui-state-default'>Hello</div> I get all the other style effects, like borders and background colour, which are not right for my application What I'd like to do is something like <div class='ui-primary-color'>Hello</div> which would automatically change only the colour dependent on the theme. PS. Doing a pre-build pre-processing step to parse the themes and generate a customised css style would be my least favourable option here!

  I'm trying to figure out dates in Java and am completely lost. Do I use Date? Use epoch time? Gregorian Calendar? Let's say I have a want to store a date, then later compare it to other dates. For example, I've stored a date "10/27/2013". Then, I want to later compare it to dates entered later to see if a later date is identical to "10/27/2013", or if just the day, year, or month matches? What's the best way to do this?

  I have a database which is synchronized against an external web source twice a day. This web source contains a bunch of entries, which have names and some extra information about these names. Some of these names are silly and I want to rename them when inserting them into my own database. To rename these silly names, I have a standard dictionary as such: RENAME_TABLE = { "Wsird" : "Weird", ... } As you can see, this is where UTF-8 comes into play. This is the function which performs renaming of all the problematic entries: def rename_all_entries(): all_keys = RENAME_TABLE.keys() entries = Entry.objects.filter(name__in=all_keys) for entry in entries: entry.name = RENAME_TABLE[entry.name] entry.save() So it tries to find the old name in RENAME_TABLE and renames the entry if found. However, I get a KeyError exception when using RENAME_TABLE[entry.name]. Now I'm lost, what do I do? I have... # -*- coding: utf-8 -*- ...in the top of the Python file.

• I'm making a resume...what would you consider as intermediate python programming skills?

  I've made a couple of scripts. One is a stock screener that can search through every stock. Another creates a heatmap that tells you what's performed well and badly over the past day. They aren't really that useful, just did them to work on my programming skills. I was able to throw some SQL in my scripts too. Would you call that intermediate? Thanks? How do you guys list your programming skills on your resume? Maybe there's a better way of putting it on my resume than "intermediate" or "beginner."

• Same script, working on a site, not working on the other!

  Hello, First of all I apologize in advance for this question, a bit off the rang of stackoverflow, but I've spend a day trying to solve that issue and I'm totally stuck. The issue: The search function of my script (php) works perfectly fine on one host but not on the other. If you search something here : edu-cafe.com, you'll get a result, just as it should be. However, try a search on this site, hosted somewhere else : code-reduc.com, exact same script, files and datable, and it just hang. I've asked both the host and the original programmer of the script to look at the issue but they can't seem to find an answer...   I have the following expression which will be used as date validation in the HTML5 "pattern" attribute. ?:0[1-9]|1[0-9]|2[0-9])|(?:(?!02)(?:0[1-9]|1[0-2])-(?:30))|(?:(?:0[13578]|1[02])-31))-(?:(?:0[1-9]|1[0-2])-(?:19|20)[0-9]{2} I want it to allow only valid dates, using "-" as a separator. This means up to 29th in February if it's a leap year, and 30/31 for other months respectively. Currently, it only allows years starting with 2 (2012) and months up to 12 (December). But it limits the day to 29 regardless of which month. Can anybody help me fix it?
