• Which PHP calendar will suit my needs? Or build my own?

  There are so many web based calendars out there that I'm not sure which will best suit my purposes. I want to create an events calendar, which I suppose looks and functions in much the same way as google calendar. But users shouldn't need to sign up for a gmail account or a google account. Users of my social network website should be able to create events in the calendar and share it with other friends in their "friend network". In month, year or day views, you can mouse hover events to see a bubble dialog that lists events in detail. People need to pay a monthly fee to use my website (not sure if this prevents me from using google apps). So is something like Google Calendar the way to go? Or are there other php/javascript calendars out there that already meet my needs? Or will it just save me more time to build my own?

• Truncating a table referenced by a foreign key

  Hey, We have two tables in a SQL Server 2005 database, A and B.There is a service which truncates table A every day. Recently, a foreign key constraint was added to table B, referencing table A. As a result, it isn't possible truncating table A anymore, even if table B is empty. Is there any workaround to get the same result as truncating table A? I've already tried the approach below but the identity wasn't reset. DBCC CHECKIDENT (TABLENAME, RESEED, 0) PS. before anyone points this as a duplicate, the different thing here is that I'm not allowed to drop constraints, nor creating any.

• Enjoy bug fixing more than coding from scratch

  As I get more and more into my job I've had a lot of opportunity to code new projects from scratch. Almost every programmer I know really appreciates that opportunity. But the further I go into it, the more I enjoy bug fixing. In fact, if I can spend a whole day looking over code, whether it be mine or someone else's code, and find some obscure bug, I feel much more accomplished than when I create code. Does anyone else feel this way, and are there any job advantages to this?

• Need CSS Help with a hover element - cant extend to left and right of page

  Hi there, Need some CSS guru help. If you visit my link: http://www.gabbr.com/js/viewer/cmedata/index1.html and hover over the years (top middles, 2008, 2009, 2010, etc) you will notice an orange bar extending from the top to the bottom of the page. I am trying to get the same effect on the left (month and day) but am unable to do so. The problem I am having is that I cannot get the orange hover bar to extend off the left of the screen for either #dayleft or for #monthleft. It extends all the way to the right margin of the screen but not the left. The problem is the margin-left: 15px; in #monthleft and margin-left: 80px; in #dayleft. But I cannot get rid of these since I require them for the letter spacing. Any advice?

• How can I tell if a SQL Server database is being backed up

  Is there a way to programmatically determine if a SQL Server backup is currently being performd on a particular database? We have automated database backup scripts for both data and log files, where the databases are backed up nightly and log files are backed up every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day. However, we think that the log file backup job is failing if it runs the same time as the full backup is being run. What I'd like to do is to make a change to my transaction log script to not run a transaction log backup while the full backup is being run. If there a DMV or a system table that I can query and work this out?

  Hello to all, I'm working on a site where all the pages are actually index.php + a 'name' parameter that is analyzed and loads the appropriate template and content. the homepage url is: http://www.some_site.com/?page=homepage 1. i was asked to "change" the homepage url to: http://www.some_site.com can i use url rewite and htaccess for that and if so, what should i write there? working on my local machine, i tried this code (mode rewrite is enabled): <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteRule /index.php /index.php?page=homepage </IfModule> i would still need the 'name' parameter to be available to the php code of course, so i can load the template and css files. 2. it would be nice for other pages (not homepage) to be converted from (example) http://www.some_site.com/?page=products to: http://www.some_site.com/products this is less crucial. thanx in advance and have a nice day :-)

I am going to use it on my website and thinking it to share as iframe like facebook but I cannot think its securty because someone can develop a script that can click on it automatically. I thought a solution using sessions but I couldn't make an algorithm completely. How can I disallow autoclicks and which solution is the best? It can be any language I just want algorithm. • Does Visual Studio 2010 on x64 crash often? Or is it just on my PC?

  MY VS2010 crashes dozens of times a day. Compare that to 2008 and 2005 which were rock solid. Is 2010 known to be susceptible to crashing? Or could it be my environment? I'm using x64 as a dev box for the first time. The only plugin I has so far is Ankh. It crashes when doing different things. One I've noticed so far that always happens is if I press the key sequence alt-f-s-up (or any cursor key) it will crash every time.

• jQuery Week Calendar overlapping problem

  Hi, I'm developing an application with uses this calendar for resource reservation, but I have a problem when creating a new event. I don't want events to overlap, so I set allow allowCalEventOverlap to false. However, it still overlaps in a transparent way. But the biggest problem is that I can't drag an event if there's another on the same day, even if their start and end dates don't overlap. I'm now at a java application realm - and I'm just about OK at it. the path that brought me there: BASIC VB6 PHP javascript actionscript java/objective-C I still live in the web development but I now prefer java - I see this as a good flow but I was wondering how you guys got to where you are and the best path to take? Edit: reword I guess I've asked the question wrong - I was wondering how to progress to a top level application from starting off in development. Where good paradyms connect languages. • Would like help with LOGON Trigger

  I've created a logon trigger in MS SQL that needs to check dm_exec_sessions for a login. This login is the user listed in the connection string and has owner right to the database. If the login is verified, I need it to update a specific table and send an email. So far I've done just the following piece and it disabled my web site. The error I get is: "Logon failed for login 'dev' due to trigger execution. Changed database context to 'mydatabase'. Changed language setting to us_english." Any idea what I did wrong? • Tabbar App with Paging between tabs.

  Hi everyone, I've been struggling for about four days now trying to figure out how to implement the functionality I need. Basically I want to make a tabbar app that you can swipe back and forth between the tabs. Say I have 4 tabs. Would it make any sense just to create a scrollview that's 4 times as wide as the device, and load up 4 individual views side by side? Then I could use the tabbar delegate to simple tell which page to make visible? I could also use itemSelected to update the tab itself if a user swipes to a new page. does this make sense / is it a good idea? I just need a quick yes or no answer before I spend another whole day pursuing something doomed to failure. Thank you very much for your help...

  My day job involves coding with Perl. At home I play around with Python and Erlang. For Perl I want to indent my code with two spaces. Whereas for Python the standard is 4. Also I have some key bindings to open function declarations which I would like to use with all programming languages. How can this be achieved in gVim? As in, is there a way to maintain a configuration file for each programming language or something of that sort?

  I'm now on my third full day this week of trying to get OpenCV to work with Python. (I have been trying on and off for the past 6 months).   Why would a 'public event EventHandler cccc' be null? I have a class that's public class Builder { public event EventHandler StartedWorking; public Builder() { // Constructor does some stuff } public void Start() { StartedWorking(this, eventargobject); //StartedWorking is null -- } } This seems straightforward and something I do all the time? Am I missing something obvious or is there something that could cause this? EDIT: Does this mean that if I fire an event that is not subscribed to in a client class I have to check that it is not null? EDIT-2: I guess I'd never had events that were never not subscribed to and hence never ran into this -- You learn something new every day Sorry about the seemingly stupid question....

• What's the best way to debug AJAX to PHP calls?

  I'm having a miserable time debugging one small function on my new project. Essentially I'm having a user log out via an AJAX call to my log out script on my server called "userfFunctions.php" I'm using AJAX so that I don't have the headache of writing more regex to match my mod_rewrites. Anyway, every so often, it seems as though my Post data just flat out dies and since the PHP is running behind the scenes, I feel like I have no way of finding out where the data flow is being disrupted. BTW This function works 19 hrs of the day. • JavaScript: how to use data but to hide it so as it cannot be reused

  Hi all. I've some data that i'd like to publish just on one website, ie. it should not be reused on other websites. The data is a set of numbers that change every day, our journalists work to get hard gather it. Is there any way to hide, crypt, etc. the data in a way that it cannot be reused by others? But to show it in a graph in the same time? I found the ASCII to HEX tool that could be used for (http://utenti.multimania.it/ascii2hex/). I wonder if you can suggest other ways. • SubSonic 3.0 two different Databases namespace Issue

  My question is simple, I have two databases with the same scehema, one is live database say DLive and other one is testbed say DTestBed.... However, I want to use the same database namespace for both database. How can I achieve that without changing namespace in my code all over? Sometimes you need to do builds for live and testbeds in the same day ! Its really hard to change big project namespaces everytime you build. • Rails, making certain multiparameter attributes optional?

  Is there a method already part of Rails for making certain parameters option when part of a multiparameter attribute, for example say I'm prompting a user for their birthday, when saved the has may look like this: "birthday(2i)"=>"8", "birthday(3i)"=>"17", "birthday(1i)"=>"1980"}, ... But the issue arises when say I want to allow the user to just provide their month and day, making the year optional, how would this work being a datetime object, I'm assuming you can't do this as a date object... but any ideas would be helpful. • SQL Server Composite Primary Keys

  I am attempting to replace all records for a give day in a certain table. The table has a composite primary key comprised of 7 fields. One such field is date. I have deleted all records which have a date value of 2/8/2010. When I try to then insert records into the table for 2/8/2010, I get a primary key violation. The records I am attempting to insert are only for 2/8/2010. Since date is a component of the PK, shouldn't there be no way to violate the constraint as long as the date I'm inserting is not already in the table? Thanks in advance.

• Drupal menu item disappears for Anonymous User, I dont want that happening!

  Good day I'm using Drupal 6, and I have a menu item that points to a Forum page. I only want the forums accesible by registered users, but if they aren't logged in/registered I want drupal to display a login/register page. Im using a 403redirect module to handle that, and that is fine. My problem is, I have the menu item pointing to /forum. And when I'm not logged in, the menu item disappears. How can I stop that from happening? Thanks

• Behaviour of System.Timer when Interval property changed

  I have a System.Timer setup to trigger an event every day at 2AM. If the process the timer starts fails then I want the timer to be reset to run every 15 minutes until the process completes succesfully. // this is how the timer is set up. // this is working correctly. double startTime = milliseconds_of_hour_to_start. Timer = new System.Timers.Timer( startTime); Here is the code to reset the timer on success or failure of the event handler. NOTE the timer is not being stopped, just the Interval property is being reset. if (ProcessSuccess) { Timer.Interval = TimeSpan.FromHours(24).TotalMilliseconds; } else { Timer.Interval = TimeSpan.FromMinutes(15).TotalMilliseconds; } My question is this, if the process fails say 4 times, then succeeds will the Timer now be running at around 3AM? i.e. after failing will the original start time of 2AM be advanced by 15 minutes?

  Greetings, With all the existing development towards web development and emerging technologies in that area, I'm left wondering; what is a state of the art way to implement desktop applications in this day and age? If you were to start a new application of considerable size from scratch what technology would you invest your efforts in (focusing on cross platform portability, decent performance and interoperability with existing standards)? I've looked into the Adobe Air platform which appears quite impressive but seems rather limited to support a large application. Would something like Java/SWT still be the sensible choice? Do things like GWT fit the bill? Thanks P.S. I'm leaving my question a bit open-ended in an effort to gather diverse answers. Surely this a subjective matter and there is no right and wrong answer.

  I have a day job as an IT system administrator, but I do a lot of c# asp.net programming on my spare time. I have always wondered what its like to be a real software developer. I have taken a look at big CMS systems like umbraco and Dotnetnuke and said to myself that these developers must have decades of programming experience. Just the design of these products are overwhelming let alone the actual code. I just would like your comments on what it is like being a programmer.
