  • Query performs poorly unless a temp table is used

The interesting thing for me is that the TASK_REQUEST table is a small table (3 rows at present) and statistics are up to date on the table. Any idea why such different execution plans and execution times would be occuring? And ideally how to change things so that I don't need to use the temp table to get decent performance? The only real difference in the execution plans is that the temp table version introduces an index spool (eager spool) operation.

    The documentation for SQL Server Float says Approximate-number data types for use with floating point numeric data. Floating point data is approximate; therefore, not all values in the data type range can be represented exactly. Which is what I expected it to say.     Say the source data comes in excel format, below is how I import the data. Converting to csv format via MS Excel Roughly find bad rows/columns by inspecting backup the table that needs to be updated in SQL Query Analyzer truncate the table (may need to drop foreign key constraint as well) import data from the revised csv file in SQL Server Enterprise Manager If there's an error like duplicate columns, I need to check the original csv and remove them I was wondering how to make this procedure more effecient in every step? I have some idea but not complete. For step 2&6, using scripts that can check automatically and print out all error row/column data. So it's easier to remove all errors once. For step 3&5, is there any way to automatically update the table without manually go through the importing steps? Could the community advise, please? Thanks.

    I have data this is linked from SQL Server into an excel document. The column format on the SQL Server is datetime2. When I get the data via an ODBC connection it comes across as a string? I tried using CAST(column AS DATE ) but that didn't work. I tried reformatting via CONVERT(VARCHAR(10), column, 103) as well but that didn't work. I tried retrieving the data via Microsoft query as well but that didn't work. At the moment I am using VBA code like: While (ActiveCell.Value <> "") ActiveCell.Value = DATEVALUE(ActiveCell.Value) ActiveCell.Offset(1,0).Activate Wend and looping through each column that needs this treatment but 100000 rows in multiple columns takes forever to loop through. Are there any alternatives?

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 issue

    Net 4.0 websites running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 server using IIS 7.0. The websites allows Single Sign on via an encrypted token passed in a query string e.g. www.mywebsite.com?token=1159CE30A4ED1148E86D779AC7A1CF4DC75CCEC7213401D13CA181A2ED1C29A8. However, after installing Service Pack 1; SSO has stopped working and the website redirects to www.mywebsite.com. The redirect occurs before any code is hit. No idea what is causing this and any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Hi, we have a legacy application which uses a access.mdb with hundreds of ODBC-connected tables on a sql-server. the access.mdb contains nothing else than these odbc-connections. Now we consider to use a virtual sql-servername for these odbc connections and resolve it in the local hosts-file with the ip-address of the real sql-server. Like this we can easy switch between a test-sql-database server and the the server for production in changing one single entry in the hosts. EVERYTHING works fine and now comes the question: Could it be that this is more performant because there is one single point on resolving the sql-server (name or ip-address)? Is there something like a network-cache / DNS-Cache? peace Ice

    Currently I have a SQL server column of type nvarchar(max) which has text that starts with <span class="escape_<<digits>>"></span> The only thing that varies in the pattern is the <<digits>> in the class name. The common part is <span class="myclass_ and the closing </span> Some sample values are <span class="myclass_12"></span> <span class="myclass_234"></span> <span class="myclass_4546"></span> These span text are present only at the beginning of the column. Any such matching span in the middle should not be removed or matched. Whats the SQL Server query with regex to remove all these occurances of span?

I want to be able to replace all references to the separated tables from the original database using views. Is there a better way (other than manually changing all FK and SProc references) to switch all the dependencies to reference the view instead of the table?

There isn't a constraint on sys.objects that points me to table of these, and sys.types contains data types. I've searched SQL BOL but haven't found it. Any help would be appreciated. EDIT: Some DBs use only a subset of these types. For example, if I have a database with no views, when I query Sys.Objects as above, there are no "V" rows in the results. I am looking for a list of all possible types and descriptions used by SQL Server.

    Hi, I have a Zen based VPS server that runs on a dual-core AMD Opteron 64-bit machine. I have some locally developed C++ based daemons that I would want to deploy in that machine. My local machine is an Intel core 2 duo laptop. Can I execute binaries compiled from source code on my machine directly on the above mentioned server? I am a newbie in this area.     Hi, I tried to turn on the Activity Monitor using SQL Server 2008 Management Studio (SSMS) through the options window of the application (Tools | Options | Environment | General | At Startup). I restarted SSMS and I am getting the following message: "This operation does not support connections to Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition version 8.00.2249." I need to be able to monitor the processes and activities inside the database since I am investigating a particular application which takes a lot of time in its database data retrieval access and I am thinking it may be due to some locks or some processes.     My app reads a from decentralized (so I have the ability to change servers if I have to) xml file with TBXML parser. The xml file consists of only a few lines like this <xml> <mirror url="http://www.someserverabc.com/data.xml" priority="1"/> <mirror url="http://www.someservermirror.com/data.xml" priority="2"/> <mirror url="http://www.anotherserver.com/data.xml/" priority="3"/> </xml> So I have the corresponding priority to the url. Now I want to check if server with priority 1 is reachable, and if not, try the 2nd one and so forth. If a server is reachable I'm parsing XML with the url from the mirror list How could I implement this approach and is it even a good approach or how can this be tweaked? (is XML even desirable in the first scenario)

  • .Net SQL Server Connection String - hide password from other developers

    We're migrating one of our sites to ASP.Net. We do not want to use integrated security, which uses the windows account to connect to sql server (not going to get into why, its just out of the question). We created a username and password to connect to SQL Server, and would like to use that username and password, however, we also do not want other developers to see this information (easily read from the web.config).... I know it can be encrypted, but it can just as easily be decrypted by the developers - plus encryption has a performance hit. Is there any solution to this problem?
