  • CTRL-Space always toggles Chinese IME (Windows 7)

    I am running Windows 7 Ultimate (w/ SP1), and have multiple UI languages installed - mainly for screenshots etc. Among them are Chinese (traditional) and Chinese (Simplified), which insist on hooking the CTRL+Space key even though I have disabled / overridden these hotkey assignments under Language Bar settings / Advanced key settings. (It conflicts with CTRL+Space in the Visual Studio IDE, and is pretty annoying beyond that.) Any ideas?

    In XP, I could go ToolsOptionsFile Types and modify descriptions, icons and actions. Does this still exist in Windows 7? I'm not finding anything explicitly saying so, but there are lots of recommendations to download assorted random software to do it. There must be a way to change this without having to use third party stuff?

    I use Putty to login to the remote server and then set the environment and change the path to a particular directory. Now from this dir, I need to copy a folder to my desktop which is Windows? How can I achieve this ? Some of my failed attempts are as follows scp -r remote_foldername srao@my_ipaddress:C:\srao\Users\Desktop So from the remote server which is to be copied through putty, to my_username_in_windows@ip_address:path to destination

  • Connecting with SMB from Mac to Windows server

    I'm trying to connect from my Mac to a directory on a Windows server. Here is what I'm doing from the finder : menu Go->connect to server->smb://srv-fichiers1/Personnel/conujer I get an error (error code -36). But, from the finder window, if I click on Shared->All->srv-fichier1->Personnel->conujer, I have access to the directory. I don't understand why I cannot connect straight to conujer.

  • Combine Windows 8 app and settings search?

    While I've adapted to most things in windows 8 quite easily, I miss the 'combined' search feature of win 7 where pressing Win then typing would bring up all of the applications, settings and files (not that I ever really used the files part). Now, if I want to search settings I press win, start typing, then have to press the down arrow twice, then enter, then find the setting I want (I know I could press win-w, but that's just another thing to remember). Is there any way to bring back the 'unified search'?

    I recently re-installed non-English Windows XP Home SP2 to two computers. Why the computers don't start downloading software updates ? I have valid licenses and the copies have been activated successfully. Over the years I have made several XP installations from the same media and there has been no issues earlier (i.e. the software updates have started a quite soon). I do have the automatic software updates turned on (as I have always).

    When I try to use Curl on windows, to retrieve an https url, I get the dreaded "connection error (60)." The exact error message is: curl: (60) SSL certificate problem, verify that the CA cert is OK.     I'm about to buy an iTouch, mainly because of the iCal. I'm a Windows user, so does anyone know if these two play well together? I'd prefer to be able to update my calendar from either the computer or iTouch and sync. I've searched Google, but I'm sceptic so far. Ideally it needs to work w/ MS Word, needs to be configurable in how it gets triggered, (i.e. the string hdt when followed by a space gets transformed into Help Desk Ticket, but hdt gets ignored).     For a Windows domain, is there a way to see for a certain user or group, where the user/group has permissions? Primarily: List which files / folders the user can access on a certain network share. (Kind of a recursive "effective permissions") However, other permissions would be cool as well. I believe I've seen such a tool in action, but I can't remember anything beyond that - so this might be a false memory. Recommendations?

    On Windows 7, dir or tree can't show unicode characters, even starting cmd with cmd /U So I would press Window Key + R to run something, and type in cmd /U so that the content might handle Unicode. And then using dir or tree /F, the content in Unicode won't show as Unicode. (in Window Explorer (file manager), the Unicode will show) Is there a way to handle it? To get Unicode characters to test your filenames, you can go to http://news.google.com/news?edchanged=1&ned=tw and you will be able to get many Unicode characters there (UTF-8)

  • Single machine domain with Windows 7 OS

    Is it possible to setup one single machine with Windows 7 x64 OS and somehow make it work as if it's part of a certain domain? So domain controller would be simulated in some way? I would like to avoid VMs and make it actually work on one machine with non server OS. Is there even a simpler way of doing it? Why: I have to setup development environment for Sharepoint 2010 and it will make my life much easier if my machine would be part of a domain.
