  • SSDT - What's in a name?

    SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) recently got released as part of SQL Server 2012 and depending on who you believe it can be described as either: a suite of tools for building SQL Server database solutions or a suite of tools for building SQL Server database, Integration Services, Analysis Services & Reporting Services solutions Certainly the SQL Server 2012 installer seems to think it is the latter because it describes SQL Server Data Tools as "the SQL server development environment, including the tool formerly named Business Intelligence Development Studio. Also installs the business intelligence tools and references to the web installers for database development tools" as you can see here: Strange then that, seemingly, there is no consensus within Microsoft about what SSDT actually is. On yesterday's blog post First Release of SSDT Power Tools reader Simon Lampen asked the quite legitimate question:I understand (rightly or wrongly) that SSDT is the replacement for BIDS for SQL 2012 and have just installed this. If this is the case can you please point me to how I can edit rdl and rdlc files from within Visual Studio 2010 and import MS Access reports.To which came the following reply:SSDT doesn't include any BIDs (sic) components. Following up with the appropriate team (Analysis Services, Reporting Services, Integration Services) via their forum or msdn page would be the best way to answer you questions about these kinds of services. That's from a Microsoft employee by the way. Simon is even more confused by this and replies with:I have done some more digging and am more confused than ever. This documentation (and many others) : msdn.microsoft.com/.../ms156280.aspx expressly states that SSDT is where report editing tools are to be foundAnd on it goes....You can see where Simon's confusion stems from. He has official documentation stating that SSDT includes all the stuff for building SSIS/SSAS/SSRS solutions (this is confirmed in the installer, remember) yet someone from Microsoft tells him "SSDT doesn't include any BIDs components".I have been close to this for a long time (all the way through the CTPs) so I can kind of understand where the confusion stems from. To my understanding SSDT was originally the name of the database dev stuff but eventually that got expanded to include all of the dev tools - I guess not everyone in Microsoft got the memo.Does this sound familiar? Have we not been down this road before? The database dev tools have had upteen names over the years (do any of datadude, TSData, VSTS for DB Pros, DBPro, VS2010 Database Projects sound familiar) and I was hoping that the SSDT moniker would put all confusion to bed - evidently its as complicated now as it has ever been.Forgive me for whinging but putting meaningful, descriptive, accurate, well-defined and easily-communicated names onto a product doesn't seem like a difficult thing to do. Contextual Content Targeting: Marketers are empowered to create and manage targeted campaigns with relevant recommendations and promotions based on the context of the session of the visitor such as his or her navigation history, user profile, language, location or other information shared during the visitor session. With Oracle’s WEM solution, it’s easy to control branding and deliver a consistent message while repurposing web content for publication to mobile devices, kiosks and much more. This distinctive approach provides: HTML5 Delivery: HTML5 delivery which includes native support for adaptive design that responds to the user’s computer screen resolution and orientation. The approach is less driven by the particular hardware and more driven by the user’s interactions with the device. In other words, this approach takes both the screen interactions (either cursor or touch) and screen sizes and orientation into consideration. A Unique Native Mobile Extension Environment for Contributors: From the WEM interface, a contributor can directly manage their mobile channel, using the tooling already in place for driving the traditional web presence. This includes the mobile presentation, as well as mobile insite editing, drag and drop page layout, and in-context recommendations and personalization. Optimized REST APIs for High Performance Content Delivery on Native Mobile Device Applications: WebCenter Sites’ REST API uses the underlying HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE) to interact with resources. Resources support two types of input and output formats -- XML and JSON. REST calls are customizable to optimize the interactions between the content repositories and the client applications. Caching is essential to decrease network loads and improve overall reliability and usability of the applications and user interactions. REST results are cached through the highly efficient Oracle WebCenter Sites caching architecture.

I have project in which I need application which communicates with local DB server and simultaneously with central remote DB server to complete some task(read stock quotas from local server create order and then write order to central orders DB,...). So, I don`t know which architecture and technology do this. Web application, .NET WinForms client applications on each computer, or web services based central application with client applications? What are general differences between this approaches? Thanks

  • Exchange 2010 - No Push notification when when deleting emails from Outlook

    Hi I'm setting up a Exchange 2010 server for our test environment. I'm running Windows 2008R2 enterprise on this machine. Iv'e also installed all updates available for windows and exchange 2010 including rollup 1 and 2 for exchange that include bugfixes regarding push notifications. My problem is when deleting mail or marking mail as read don't trigger a push notification. The happens when I use webgui, mobile phone and Outlook 2007. When deleting a email in Outlook 2007 the changes get sent to the server since the changes are visible in webgui but not on mobile phone. I get push notifications when I get new emails since new emails appear instantly on the mobile phone. Is this normal behaviour on Exchange 2010? For me it seems a bit funny. If i force sync on mobile phone the changes appear. Iv'e tested this on both iphone and HTC HD2(Running Windows Mobile 6.5) with same results.

  • AT&T’s new prepaid plan for smartphones –$65 for 1 GB data and unlimited calls, text

    AT&T is stepping up competition in prepaid mobile plans offering and trying to attract more smartphone customers who are not interested to lock in with expensive contracts. Today AT&T announced a new prepaid plan for smartphone customers which offers 1 GB of , unlimited calls and text for $65 a month. Compared to existing plans that offers same , the new plan saves $10 per month and rates are comparable to T-Mobile prepaid service. The new plan will be available to all prepaid customers from October 7, 2012. I’m using AT&T prepaid plan for the past 3 months and paying $75 for 1 GB data, unlimited calls. Few days ago I did some analysis on prepaid plans offered by various network providers and found T-Mobile has cheapest plans that suits my needs – $60 for 2 GB data,  unlimited calls and texts. Even though T Mobile’s network coverage is not as great as AT&T in the area where I live, I planned to switch to save $15 per month. After reading today’s announcement, I don’t think that I’ll switch to T Mobile for saving $5 + 1 GB of extra data.  Thanks AT&T for the new plan, I’ll stay with you for now. via engadget

  • Brainstorming: Weird JPA problem, possibly classpath or jar versioning problem???

    I'm seeing a weird error message and am looking for some ideas as to what the problem could be. I'm sort of new to using the JPA. I have an application where I'm using Spring's Entity Manager Factory (LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean), EclipseLink as my ORM provider, connected to a MySQL DB and built with Maven. I'm not sure if any of this matters..... When I deploy this application to Glassfish, the application works as expected. The problem is, I've created a set of stand alone unit tests to run outside of Glassfish that aren't working correctly. I get the following error (I've edited the class names a little) com.xyz.abc.services.persistence.entity.MyEntity cannot be cast to com.xyz.abc.services.persistence.entity.MyEntity The object cannot be cast to a class of the same type? How can that be? Here's a snippet of the code that is in error Query q = entityManager.createNamedQuery("MyEntity.findAll"); List entityObjects = q.getResultList(); for (Object entityObject: entityObjects) { com.xyz.abc.services.persistence.entity.MyEntity entity = (com.xyz.abc.services.persistence.entity.MyEntity) entityObject; Previously, I had this code that produced the same error: CriteriaQuery cq = entityManager.getCriteriaBuilder().createQuery(); cq.select(cq.from(com.xyz.abc.services.persistence.entity.MyEntity.class)); List entityObjects = entityManager.createQuery(cq).getResultList(); for (Object entityObject: entityObjects) { com.xyz.abc.services.persistence.entity.MyEntity entity = (com.xyz.abc.services.persistence.entity.MyEntity) entityObject; This code is question is the same that I have deployed to the server.   • Is there a way to disable the hardware on/off switch for the Wireless interface?

    I have an HP 520 and is running the latest Ubuntu 11.10. The hardware works fine with Ubuntu with one exception: The device has a hardware switch for turning the wifi on and off. Every time the wi-fi is disabled through the hardware switch, I am unable to bring it on again. The message on the networking popup would be device not ready. What I am looking for is a way to disable the hardware switch altogether so that when users accidentally press the button, the wifi would not be disabled. There is no setting to disable the switch in the BIOS.   • How to collect the new "Applications and Services Logs" found on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 us

    In Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 there are new Events categorized under "Applications and Services Logs". There is also a subfolder called Microsoft which has tons of subfolders as well. Is there any way to collect these events through WMI? For the regular "Windows Logs" such as Application and Security, it is possible to use the Win32_NTLogEvent WMI class in the cimv2 namespace. However, this class does not provide access to the new Microsoft event logs. Any ideas?

    When you try to install MOSS 2007 on Windows 2008 R2, if you are using an installation media that is older than SP2, you would get the following error, saying that “This program is blocked due to compatibility issues”    All is not lost though, all you need to do is to slip stream the SP2 updates to the MOSS 2007 Setup. Indeed the fears about global rejection of the face and hand icons was not borne out, and some of the more anachronistic icons (checkbooks, microphones, real-to-real tape decks, 3.5" floppies for "save") have become accepted metaphors for current actions. More importantly the findings brought into focus the reason for OUAB - engage with and illicit feedback though working groups before we build anything. 6. EReaders and Oracle iBook: What is the uptake and trends of ereaders? And how about a demo of an iBook with enterprise apps content?  Well received by the audience, the session included a live running poll of ereader usage. 7. Gamification Design Jam: Fun, hands on event for teams of Oracle staff, partners and customers, actually building gamified flows, a practice that can be applied right away by customers and partners.  8. UX Direct: A new offering of usability best practices, coming to an external website for you in 2013. FInd a real user, observe their tasks, design and approve, build and measure. Simple stuff to improve apps implications no end. 9. FUSE (an internal term only, basically Fusion Simplified Experience): demo of the new Face of Fusion Applications: inherently mobile, simple to use, social, personalizable and FAST, three great demos from the HCM, CRM and ICT world on how these UX designs can be used in different ways. So, a powerful breadth and depth of UX solutions and opporunities for customers and partners to engage with and explore how they can make their users happy and benefit their business reaping continued ROI from those apps investments. AND ?'=>array($startid,$endtid))); $services = $this->Serviceinfo->find('all',$conditions); I had to fetch the sum data with services[0][0]['servicecount'] which seems a little weird.And What I expect is services['Serviceinfo']['servicecount'],or more simple one.Then how can I fix this?Thanks in advance!
