• Is it valid for RSS feeds to include images with relative paths?

  I have an app which reads lots of RSS feeds. Someone added a feed recently that includes images in the html portion with relative URLS (i.e. it didn't include the http://www.domain.com/ part in front). Is this valid html for an RSS feed? I thought not, but I tried adding the feed to my Google reader and it picked up the images correctly, so they must be doing something smart where they guess the domain based on the feed's url parameter or something. Even if it's not valid, how common is it to see feeds like this in the wild? To display it correctly would require you to parse the html in the feed and find/replace parts of it to insert full URL's, so this seems wrong. But wanted to double check.

So a punctuation such as '-' or for example a '.' in "No." should not spacing in a sentence, but other punctuation that don't rely on a word or a phrase should be spaced.

  What is the most elegant (or least ugly) way of using typed constants in a case statement in Delphi? That is, assume for this question that you need to declare a typed constant as in const MY_CONST: cardinal = $12345678; ... Then the Delphi compiler will not accept case MyExpression of MY_CONST: { Do Something }; ... end; but you need to write case MyExpression of $12345678: { Do Something }; ... end; which is error-prone, hard to update, and not elegant. Is there any trick you can employ to make the compiler insert the value of the constant (preferably by checking the value of the constant under const in the source code, but maybe by looking-up the value at runtime)? We assume here that you will not alter the value of the "constant" at runtime.

• Suggestions for VS+Resharper keyboard shortcuts on a Mac

  I just upgraded to a Macbook Pro as my development machine but still primarily develop .Net applications with Visual Studio and Resharper (via VMWare Fusion). By far, the biggest obstacle I'm running into is getting used to the keyboard layout change (ex. not being able to do ALT-Insert). Do any of you Windows-on-Mac veterans have any suggestions on how to ease the pain of transitioning (without moving to an external keyboard)? Are you changing mappings via VMWare's keyboard preferences? Or are you using something like AutoHotkey? Any other windows development tips for a Mac newb?

  Hey, I've written a function to copy any variable type into a byte vector, however whenever I insert something it gets inserted in reverse. Here's the code. template <class Type> void Packet::copyToByte(Type input, vector<uint8_t>&output) { copy((uint8_t*) &input, ((uint8_t*) &input) + sizeof(Type), back_inserter(output)); } Now whenever I add for example a uint16_t with the value 0x2f1f it gets inserted as 1f 2f instead of the expected 2f 1f. • Linq to sql Incorrect varchar length

  I have a table with a nullable varchar(50) column in it. When I am updating the value through linq to sql and trace the call in profiler it is defining the parameter as varchar(36). This is obviously causing some minor issues when we are trying to insert data that is between 37 and 50 characters long. I have tried removing the table and re-adding it to the design surface but the same thing happens. I also tried removing that property and adding it manually, same issue. When I look at the designer.cs code it shows the attribute properly: [Column(Storage="_Name", DbType="VarChar(50)")] I am out of ideas, anybody seen this before? Every other column is correct.

  Hi, I have an entity A with fields: aId (the system id) bId I want the first to be generated: @Id @Column(name = "PRODUCT_ID", unique = true, nullable = false, precision = 12, scale = 0) @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.SEQUENCE, generator = "PROD_GEN") @BusinessKey public Long getAId() { return this.aId; } I want the bId to be initially exactly as the aId. One approach is to insert the entity, then get the aId generated by the DB (2nd query) and then update the entity, setting the bId to be equal to aId (3rd query). Is there a way to get the bId to get the same generated value as aId? Note that afterwards, I want to be able to update bId from my gui. If the solution is JPA, even better.

• Trying to understand MVC Models, Advice?

  I am writing my own MVC for the purpose of learning it. I have pretty much everything "down-pat" and my main stuff written besides models due to some trouble understanding them and lack of viable examples. Now, I've been told a model should reprecent a single row, someone told me, your model class should on update/insert and delete rows, anything that involves fetching a single or multiple rows - a "finder" class should be used. So... a) what is a finder class, b) how do I implement it in a useage example, c) Is what I've been told about models correct or is there a better way than "finders"? Advice is much appricated :)

• deserialization on client sied in Domain Service

  i have 2 classes. Person and Contact. Person class has property named "ContactNumber" which returns the Contact type, and this property is marked as "Datamember" for serialization. i have marked Contact type as "DAtaContract". on client side i am able to get the values, but when i try to insert a value and then do submit, i get the below exception. Failed to deserialize change-set. • copying program arguments to a whitespace separated std::string

  I have a Visual Studio 2008 C++ application where I would like to copy all of program arguments in to a string separated by a whitespace " ". i.e., if my program is called as foo.exe \Program Files, then my folder string below would contain \Program Files Below is an example of what I'm doing now. I was wondering if there was a shorter or easier method of doing this. • Why is the proper "respond_to" format not getting called?

  Hi All, I'm having a bit of an odd issue. Really too odd to type out, but here goes. Basically I have a controller that refuses to "respond_to" using javascript unless I assign my "chart.generate_xml" to a variable before the "respond_to" block like so: @xml = @chart.generate_xml(@begin_date,@end_date,1.hour) respond_to do |format| format.html format.js{ render :update do |page| page.insert_html :bottom, "chart-div", @xml #page.insert_html :bottom, "chart-div", @chart.generate_xml(@begin_date,@end_date,1.hour) end } If I remove the upper "@xml= …" portion and go with the lower "page.insert", the "format.js" section doesn't get called. And if I try to force the format with "request.format = :js", I get the javascript returned as text. I'm not doing anything special here in that method call, so I'm not sure why it would choose to respond any differently. FWIW, the method that triggers this controller action is using JS to do so, so I'm confused as to why "format.js" isn't always getting called. Thoughts? Best.

• T-SQL error object exists when separated in if/else blocks

  I get the error: Msg 2714, Level 16, State 1, Line 16 There is already an object named '#mytemptable' in the database. There are ways around it, but wonder why this happens. Seems like SQL Server is verifying both blocks of the if/else statement? declare @choice int select @choice = 1 if @choice = 1 begin select 'MyValue = 1' AS Pick into #my_temp_table end else begin select 'MyValue <> 1' AS Pick into #my_temp_table end select * from #temptable drop table #temptable If the tables have different names, it works. • How to Practically Split Values from CSV File into MySQL Database

  Let's suppose I have the following line in a CSV file (I removed the header row in this example): "500,000",2,50,2,90000 I have a PHP script read the CSV file, break the file into individual lines, and store each line in an array called $linearray. Then, I use a foreach loop to look at each line individually. Within the foreach loop, I break the line into separate variables using the following function: $line = str_replace("'","\'",$line); From here, I insert the values into separate columns within a MySQL database. The script works. The values are inserted into a database, but I run into a problem. I want: "500,000" | 2 | 50 | 2 | 90000 But I get this: "500 | 000" | 2 | 50 | 2 | 90000 The script isn't smart enough to understand it should skip commas within quotation marks. Do you know how I can alter my script to make sure I get the output I'm looking for? Thanks.

• Memory leak while using emoticons on CRichEditCtrl

  I'm developing a text editor class (for a chat application) based on CRichEditCtrl (MFC) with emoticon support. After i load the emoticon's bitmap, I use the function OleCreateStaticFromData to insert it into CRichEditCtrl. After that i just delete the bitmap object allocated by myself. I can verify (using a GDIView utility) that all resources i allocate have been properly released. This works perfectly: the bitmap (emoticon) is drawn on the CRichEditCtrl window and is handled just like a character. My problem is that I don't know how to deallocate the memory (internal) allocated by OleCreateStaticFromData to manage the bitmap (emoticon). The memory allocated for any emoticon used is never released, even if i delete the CRichEditCtrl object. I'd like to know how to fix that issue. Is that a MFC's issue or i'm doing something wrong ?   Can someone tell me, when you for example update, insert, delete.. should you then close it like $stmt->close(); ? i checked php manual and don't understand what close() actually does. LIMIT 1"); $stmt->execute(array($email)); $stmt->close(); Next part of my question is, if as an example i had multiple update queries in a transaction after every execute() for each query i am executing should i close them individually ? ... because it's a transaction not sure i need to use $stmt->close(); after each execute(); or just use one $stmt->close(); after all of them ?   Hi, I have a stored procedure that returns a result with 250!!! columns. But I only need 3 out of the 250. I want to call the SP and put only the 3 column values in a temp table. I don't want to define a temp table with 250 columns! This is how I would like to do it, but this doesn't work of course: create #myTempTable (id int, value1 int, value2 int) insert into #myTempTable exec myBigFatStoredProc Can it be done anyhow? • How do I load content with ujs, jquery and rails?

  I'm trying to figure out the best way to insert content into a light box using rails UJS. I have a link that looks like this: <%= link_to "login", login_path, :remote => true %> Which produces html as such: <a data-remote="true" href="/login">login</a> So this all works great, and I've created the view file: user_sessions/new.js.erb which also loads just fine, but my question what is the preferred method of inserting appending the html into the page? Like I already have the login form on the non-js page, so can't I just load that partial into the page? Any ideas would be very welcomed.
