• Workaround for Outlook 2007 for wrapping text around image with margin?

  As we all know, Outlook 2007 uses the Word 2007 rendering engine, causing endless grief when designing HTML email message. [Insert rant here] In particular, float, margin, and padding are - shall we say? - poorly supported. To simulate float so that text wraps around an image, apparently we can simply use: <img src="foo.png" align="right"> The issue is padding/margin. Without padding/margin, the wrapped text butts up against the image which looks goofy. One workaround is to edit the image and add transparent framing that simulates margin. Does anyone know any other workarounds?

• how to have separate keys per record in mongo_mapper + Rails

  When I'm adding a record in mongodb I can specify whatever keys I want and it will store it in the db. The problem is that it will remember those keys for the next time I insert another record. so for example if I do the following: Product.create :foo => 123 and then Product.create :bar => 456 I get :foo => nil field in the 2nd record. This is definitely not a limitation of mongodb itself, since if I restart the rails console and create yet another record with different set of columns, it will not add the columns from the 1st 2 records. So it seems like mongomapper remembers all the keys used and inserts them all into all records, even if values are not provided. The question is obviously: how do I disable this crazy attributes explosion? Basically I want only the 'permanent' keys that I specify in the model to be in every record, but all the 'extra' attributes to be specified per record and not to mess the consequent records.

• MySQL triggers cannot update rows in same table the trigger is assigned to. Suggested workaround?

  MySQL doesn't currently support updating rows in the same table the trigger is assigned to since the call could become recursive. Does anyone have suggestions on a good workaround/alternative? Right now my plan is to call a stored procedure that performs the logic I really wanted in a trigger, but I'd love to hear how others have gotten around this limitation. Edit: A little more background as requested. I have a table that stores product attribute assignments. When a new parent product record is inserted, I'd like the trigger to perform a corresponding insert in the same table for each child record. This denormalization is necessary for performance. MySQL doesn't support this and throws: Can't update table 'mytable' in stored function/trigger because it is already used by statement which invoked this stored function/trigger. A long discussion on the issue on the MySQL forums basically lead to: Use a stored proc, which is what I went with for now. Thanks in advance!

  We are using TypedDataSet in our application. Data is passed to procedure in form of XML for insert/update. Now after populating DE with data, datetime remains the same though timezone information is added as below. Date in DB: 2009-10-29 18:52:53.43 Date in XML: 2009-10-29T18:52:53.43-05:00 Now when I am trying to convert below XML to SQL DateTime it is adjusting 5 hours and I am getting 2009-10-29 23:52:53.430 as the final output, which is wrong. Need to find a way to extract datetime from below XML snippet ignoring timezone. I don't want to define a temp table with 250 columns! • SQL Server Query Editors - any that warn of number of rows to be changed?

  We're using SQL Server 2000 Query Analyser, and one issue we have is that very occasionally, when a user is updating our live database, they insert the incorrect/no(!) where clause. I know, not good, but it happens. Are there any editors that will warn of the number of rows that might be changed (if that is even possible) or even a way to configure an editor, if it is connected to a certain database, to prompt for confirmation before the query is run? We have a way to recover our data in the cases where we run an incorrect query, but it takes time, and I'm just seeing if there are any ways to catch the error, or at least give the user a second chance.   Let's suppose I have the following line in a CSV file (I removed the header row in this example): "500,000",2,50,2,90000 I have a PHP script read the CSV file, break the file into individual lines, and store each line in an array called $linearray. Then, I use a foreach loop to look at each line individually. Within the foreach loop, I break the line into separate variables using the following function: $line = str_replace("'","\'",$line); From here, I insert the values into separate columns within a MySQL database. The script works. The values are inserted into a database, but I run into a problem. I want: "500,000" | 2 | 50 | 2 | 90000 But I get this: "500 | 000" | 2 | 50 | 2 | 90000 The script isn't smart enough to understand it should skip commas within quotation marks. Do you know how I can alter my script to make sure I get the output I'm looking for? Thanks.

• Carrierwave upload to a tmp dir before saving to database

  I'm trying to build a visual editor where users can click an image they are presented with an image upload form once the upload is done I use ajax to return the image and insert it back into the page. But the above method inserts the image straight into the database but I want users to be able to visualize the image before the image is inserted into the database. So I was wondering if the image using carrierwave could be uploaded to a temp location, sent back to the user and then when the user saves the page the image is moved into the permanent location. Here's what I have so far. def edit_image @page = Page.find(1) @page.update_attributes(params[:page]) @page.save return :text => @page.file end But this is what I want to achieve def temp_image #uploads received image to a temp location #returns image to the user end And once the user clicks save def save #moves the file in the temp folder to the permanent location end Cheers

• Determine if on product page programmatically in Magento

  I want to insert tracking codes on all of the pages of a Magento site, and need to use a different syntax if the page is a CMS page, a category browsing page, or a product view page. I have a custom module set up with a block that inserts a generic tracking code on each page for now. From within the block, how can I distinguish between CMS pages, category pages, and product pages? I started with: Mage::app()->getRequest(); I can see that Mage::app()->getRequest()->getParam('id'); returns the product or category ID on product and category pages, but doesn't distinguish between those page types. Mage::app()->getRequest()->getRouteName(); return "cms" for CMS pages, but returns "catalog" for both category browsing and product view pages, so I can't use that to tell category and product pages apart. Is there some indicator in the request I can use safely? Or is there a better way to accomplish my goal of different tracking codes for different page types?

  This is a follow up to my previous question. Consider that I write a function with the following prototype: int a_function(Foo val); Where foo is believed to be a type defined unsigned int. This is unfortunately not verifiable for lack of documentation. So, someone comes along and uses a_function, but calls it with an unsigned int as an argument. Here the story takes a turn. Foo turns out to actually be a class, which can take an unsigned int as a single argument of unsigned int in an explicit constructor. Is it a standard and reliable behavior for the compiler to render the function call by doing a type conversion on the argument. I.e. is the compiler supposed to recognize the mismatch and insert the constructor? Or should I get a compile time error reporting the type mismatch.

I want to search and find out which of these database strings are inside the string I provide (and get the IDs of them). Is there a way of using a query to search the provided string or must it be taken to application space? Am I right in thinking that this is not a 'full text search'? Would the best method be to insert it into the database to make it a full text search?

• node.js with SQL Server Native Client 11 scope_identity not being returned

  I'm having trouble with inserting a value into a database through node.js. Does anyone know why the identity is not being returned? Even if it was null, why isn't results then [{Identity: null }] ? I thought the simplest way was caching the ViewData object itself and adding the user specific data after it was loaded. Are there any downsides of this approach? • Facelets charset problem

  Hi! In my earlier post there was a problem with JSF charset handling, but also the other part of the problem was MySQL connection parameters for inserting data into db. The problem was solved. But, I migrated the same application from JSP to facelets and the same problem happened again. Characters from input fields are replaced when inserting to database (c is replaced with Ä), but data inserted into db from sql scripts with proper charset are displayed correctly. I'm still using registered filter and page templates are used with head meta tag as following: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-2"> If I insert into h:form tag the following attribute: acceptcharset="iso-8859-2" I get correct characters in Firefox, but not in IE7. Is there anything else I should do to make it work? Thanks in advance.

• How can I implement a "wizard" style page using JQuery?

  I am implementing a questionnaire on the web and I'd like for each block of questions to have its own "page" so the user doesn't have to scroll. However, page loads have two problems: a) they take time (and have a noticeable flicker/refresh) and b) such an approach would force me to do a data table insert plus multiple updates (or store it all in my session). How can I use JQuery to let the user page through the questionnaire on the client side, answering questions as he goes? I'll then be able to handle the data store when all the answers are submitted at the end. One other thing...is there a way to make sure that the session doesn't time out if the user takes awhile?
