• Getting the errors for code in unopened .aspx pages

  Is there a way to check for errors in unopened *.ASPX pages. For example, if you change the name of a function Visual Studio will catch the error on the page and list it in the "Error List" only if the page is opened and being validated? I guess the question could be is there a validation option opposed to the compile option to check for errors? (Yes, i know code should go into the pre-compiled code-behind pages.) • How do I list all tables in all databases in SQL Server in a single result set?

  I am looking for T-SQL code to list all tables in all databases in SQL Server (at least in SS2005 and SS2008; would be nice to also apply to SS2000). The catch, however, is that I would like a single result set. This precludes the otherwise excellent answer from Pinal Dave: sp_msforeachdb 'select "?" AS db, * from [?].sys.tables' The above stored proc generates one result set per database, which is fine if you are in an IDE like SSMS that can display multiple result sets. However, I want a single result set because I want a query that is essentially a "find" tool: if I add a clause like WHERE tablename like '%accounts' then it would tell me where to find my BillAccounts, ClientAccounts, and VendorAccounts tables regardless of which database they reside in.

• Do you think the AI industry will ever come back?

  I just spent some time reading about the collapse of the AI industry and realized a lot of the reason it failed was because technology was slow to catch up with their theories on when it would be available. I also read that it is believed computers that will be able to emulate human synapses may be made round 2015-2025. It's 2010 now and were getting pretty close to that time frame. I was wondering if anyone thinks that the AI industry will return as the technology lands? And if so, will it change the language market? Could Lisp like languages suddenly experience a burst of growth if it does? Idk I just thought it was interesting thinking about it.

• CSS Only Selecting Certain Classes

  Hi I'm working with a Wordpress template. I have a separate template page for the blog section. On the other pages of the site I have class that works fine and looks like this .post header h2 { display:none; } On the blog page, I add this to the CSS and it works as it should #main .post header h2 { display:block; } However if I try that with other classes like #main .wrapper { background-color:#000000; } Nothing happens.   I wrote a signal handler to catch FPE errors. I need to continue execution even if this happens. I receive a ucontext_t as parameter, I can change the bad operand from 0 to another value but the FPU context is still bad and I run into an infinite loop ? Does someone already manupulate the ucontext_t structure on Linux ? I finally found a way to handle these situations by clearing the status flag of ucontext_t like this: ... const long int cFPUStatusFlag = 0x3F; aContext->uc_mcontext.fpregs->sw &= ~cFPUStatusFlag; ... 0x3F is negated to put 0 in the 6 bits of the status register of the FPU (x87). Doing this implies to check for FPE exceptions after calculation.

• Object reference not set to an instance of an object - how to find the offending object name in the

  This is the bane of my programming existence. After deploying an application, when this error crops up, no amount of debug dump tells you WHAT object was not instantiated. I have the call stack, that's great, it tells me roughly where the object is, but is there any way to get .NET to tell me the actual name of the object? If you catch them while debugging, of course the program breaks right on the offending creature, but if it happens after the program is in the wild, good luck. There has to be a way. I've explored the exceptions returned in these instances and there is just nothing helpful.

• Timeout in LINQ to SQL inserting millions of records

  I'm inserting approximently 3 million records in a database using this solution. Eventually when the application has been inserting records for a while (my last run lasted around 4 hours), it gives a timeout with the following SqlException: "SqlExcepetion: Timeout expired. The timeoutperiod elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding." What's the best way to handle this exception? Is there a way to prevent this from happening or should I catch the exception? Thanks in advance!

• Why is my CSS tool tip not functioning properly in Google Chrome, but fine in Firefox??

  http://betawww.helpcurenow.org/media/press/ You'll see I have used spans within an anchor, with the span.hover-description set to display:none; by default, and on a:hover that span is set to display block and absolutely positioned to create a tool-tip effect when hovering over the name and email of the "For Immediate Release" contact names. Everything looks as desired in Firefox, but Chrome reveals my unknown blunder somewhere. Any help on what's the problem that is causing Chrome to not display like Firefox? Incidentally, Explorer shows the tool tip as expected, although I'm getting a funky bottom margin issue below the names, and Safari has the same issue as Chrome (must be a webkit rendering setting that I need to accommodate for).

• Creating a PHP call home "time bomb" to protect my interests

  Hi everyone, I produced a PHP web app for a client some months back that is hosted on their own server. I have still not been paid for this work, and they are giving me the runaround. It turns out that I still have remote admin access to their server, so I can make code changes. What I was thinking of doing was to move the core kernel off-site onto one of my own servers, and program in some kind of callback or include that gets the kernel (critical functions) from my server. Give it two weeks or so for their backups to catch this change, and then pull the plug and exercise leverage. If I do this, they will pay immediately, because the site is a critical one for a very large and influential client of theirs. What is the most effective and easiest way of doing this? What code do I use? Thanks for any pointers.

• In Vim, what is the best way to select, delete, or comment out large portions of multi-screen text?

  Selecting a large amount of text that extends over many screens in an IDE like Eclipse is fairly easy since you can use the mouse, but what is the best way to e.g. select and delete multiscreen blocks of text or write e.g. three large methods out to another file and then delete them for testing purposes in Vim when using it via putty/ssh where you cannot use the mouse? I can easily yank-to-the-end-of-line or yank-to-the-end-of-code-block but if the text extends over many screens, or has lots of blank lines in it, I feel like my hands are tied in Vim. Any solutions? And a related question: is there a way to somehow select 40 lines, and then comment them all out (with "#" or "//"), as is common in most IDEs?

  Hello, With regards to the Razor view engine, say I want to render Html.TextBoxFor<SomeModel>(i => i.Name), it doesn't seem that the inline syntax works as in: @Html.TextBoxFor<SomeModel>(i => i.Name) This doesn't seem to work because it interprets the generic as an HTML tag. I could use a code-block approach, but then what's the best approach to output the content? The HTML string returned from this method, do I response.write it, or is there a syntax for it, or what's the approach? Thanks.

• Modular HTML in Adobe AIR? Is It Possible?

  When I write HTML with a PHP backend, I usually have a single header file and a single footer file with some PHP variables in them. The base skeleton for every page calls the header, contains the body content, and then calls the footer. That way, if I want to make changes to the header sitewide, I change one file. I'm working on developing the UI in my first Adobe AIR app and I'm wondering if there's some way to include such files in an HTML based page template there. Obviously, with the file read/write abilities in AIR, I can write a Javascript routine to pull data from a header file, parse it, and inject it into a placeholder. It just seems like such a kludge. I'm thinking there's gotta be some simple way to import a block of HTML into a page without an iFrame or complex post-processor. Something like a PHP include statement or perhaps the old Server Side Includes. Any methods you guys can recommend?

  I want to mark a method as "debug step through" even if an exception is thrown (and catched within) the function. This is because 99% of the times I know this function will throw an exception (Assembly.GetTypes), and since this function is in a library I wish to hide this normal exception. (Why did MS not add an exceptionless GetTypes() call?)   Hi! Are there defined join points in arithmetics that I can catch? Something like: int a = 4; int b = 2; int c = a + b; Can I make a pointcut that catches any one of those lines? And what context will I be able to get? I would like to add a before() to all int/float/double manipulation done in a particular method on a class, is that possible. I see in the AspectJ docs that there are defined join points for object initialization and method calls. Is declaring an int an object initialization and does the + operator count as a method call?
