    Hi, I'm working on a online quiz client where we use a dedicated custom-made linux distro which contains only the quiz client software along with text editors and other utility software. When the user has started the quiz, I want to prevent him/her from minimizing the window/closing it/switching to the desktop or other windows. The quizzes can be attempted using only the mouse, so I need the keyboard to be completed disabled for the period of the quiz. How could I do this, using Qt or Mono? I'm ready to use any low-level libraries/drivers, if required. Thanks Evans

  • Load Excel data into Linux / wxWidgets C++ application?

    I'm using wxWidgets to write cross-plafrom applications. In one of applications I need to be able to load data from Microsoft Excel (.xls) files, but I need this to work on Linux as well, so I assume I cannot use OLE or whatever technology is available on Windows. I see that there are many open source programs that can read excel files (OpenOffice, KOffice, etc.), so I wonder if there is some library that I could use? Excel files it needs to support are very simple, straight tabular data. I don't need to extract any formatting except column/row position and the data itself.

  • Web based printing from a Django application?

    Is there any recent developments in web based printing? I know using @media print in CSS, PDF based solution or iTextSharp but they are not really easy (except @media print) but alignment is little tricky if receipt contains barcodes or if I have to format for A5 etc., Is there anything new in HTML5 which will support this? I would like to print receipts from a Django based webapplication. Any tips? Thanks.

    Hello I am working with on an app that uses wpf / silverlight on the front end and nhibernate on the back end, and looking for some design ideas to address authentication; I was looking at Rhino Security which I think is pretty slick and certainly useful, but doesn't in and of itself seem to address authentication. That said, I am looking for something of a technology agnostic overview of authentication design issues at this point. Does anyone have any links and / or experiences with an authentication design that is relatively easy to adapt to different common technologies. Cheers, Berryl

    Greetings Guys.. Iam 32 years old, I graduated from university in 2005 but from that time I didnt work in my career as a developer,and I dont have any experience in that major. My current career is software testing, but actually iam not satisfied in that job since i dont see any future for it and i dont know its path (to where will I arrive). Now i decided to take extra cources in VB.net, asp.net since I want to change my career to become webdeveloper. But 1 thing that always desturb me is that I feel that time is passed iam iam too old to become web developer.   • iPhone application update (using Core Data on Sqlite)

    I have an app which is using Core Data on Sqlite, Now I have a update which has some DB structure changes say adding a new table I know when an app get updated, it updates the app binary only, nothing on document directory will be changed. When the app gets updated and launchs at the first time and run [[NSPersistentStoreCoordinator alloc] initWithManagedObjectModel:[self managedObjectModel]]; It will find the difference between the data model and DB structure in Sqlite and will throw an exception and quit. Error: "The model used to open the store is incompatible with the one used to create the store" So, can anyone here give me some idea how to update an app when there is a DB structure change? I think we can run a DB script to create that new table when it launchs the update at the first time. But if there are other changes like changing the type of some fields or deleting some fields, and we need to migrate the old data, this is really a headache. In this case, Is the only way to do is creating a new app? Is there anyone tried something similar like this?

    I have been trying for some time to serve & cache static files for my rails app using nginx. the rails app server runs mongrel_cluster and is deployed on a different host than that of nginx. following many of the available discussions I tried the following server { listen 80; server_name www.myappserver.com; ssl on; root /var/apps/myapp/current/public; location ~ ^/(images|javascripts|stylesheets)/ { root /var/apps/myapp/current; expires 10y; } location / { proxy_pass http://myapp_upstream; } } But nginx fails to find the images and to load the css and js files. Can anyone help me out here? My aim is to configure nginx in such a way that it caches the static files till expiry. Please suggest me some way to achieve this or am I missing any point here?

  • MySQL query cache vs caching result-sets in the application layer

    I'm running a php/mysql-driven website with a lot of visits and I'm considering the possibility of caching result-sets in shared memory in order to reduce database load. However, right now MySQL's query cache is enabled and it seems to be doing a pretty good job since if I disable query caching, the use of CPU jumps to 100% immediately. Given that situation, I dont know if caching result-sets (or even the generated HTML code) locally in shared memory with PHP will result in any noticeable performace improvement. Does anyone out there have any experience on this matter? PS: Please avoid suggesting heavy-artillery solutions like memcached. Right now I'm looking for simple solutions that dont require too much time to implement, deploy and maintain.

    Dear all, I am trying my hands understanding PCAP libraries. I am able to apply a filter and get the TCP payload at port 80. But what next ? How can I read the HTTP data - suppose I want to know the "User Agent" field value in the http header..how should I proceed ? I have searched the website (and googled a lot too), and could find a related thread here : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2073183/writing-a-http-sniffer. But this doesn't help me anywhere...     I have the following code: HttpWebRequest myHttpWebRequest = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("http://mycomputer/myWebApp/WebPage2.aspx"); myHttpWebRequest.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials; HttpWebResponse myHttpWebResponse = HttpWebResponse)myHttpWebRequest.GetResponse(); The last line of code throws a (500) Internal Server Error... This code is part of myWebApp/WepPage1.aspx, yes both aspx pages are on the same webapp. What I want to accomplish is to get WebPage2.aspx html response, put it on an email and send it from WebPage1.aspx. I would really appreciate any tips.. Thanks!!!
