• Hibernate: how to call a stored function returning a varchar?

  I am trying to call a legacy stored function in an Oracle9i DB from Java using Hibernate. • Actual SQL statement after bind variables specified

  I am trying to log every SQL statement executed from my scripts. However I contemplate one problem I can not overcome. Is there a way to compute actual SQL statement after bind variables were specified. In SQLite I had to compute the statement to be executed manually, using code below: def __sql_to_str__(self, value,args): for p in args: if type(p) is IntType or p is None: value = value.replace("?", str(p) ,1) else: value = value.replace("?",'\'' + p + '\'',1) return value It seems CX_Oracle has cursor.parse() facilities. But I can't figure out how to trick CX_Oracle to compute my query before its execution.

In the previous post, JMS Step 2 - Using the QueueSend.java Sample Program to Send a Message to a JMS Queue I showed how to write a message to that JMS queue using the QueueSend.java sample program. In this article, we will use a similar sample, the QueueReceive.java program to read the message from that queue. Please review the previous posts if you have not already done so, as they contain prerequisites for executing the sample in this article. 1. Source code The following java code will be used to read the message(s) from the JMS queue. As with the previous example, it is based on a sample program shipped with the WebLogic Server installation. The sample is not installed by default, but needs to be installed manually using the WebLogic Server Custom Installation option, together with many, other useful samples. Go to $MIDDLEWARE_HOME/user_projects/domains/base_domain/bin  and execute . ./setDomainEnv.sh Collect the following information required to run the script: The JNDI name of the JMS queue to use In the WebLogic server console > Services > Messaging > JMS Modules > Module name, (e.g. TestJMSModule) > JMS queue name, (e.g. TestJMSQueue) select the queue and note its JNDI name, e.g. jms/TestJMSQueue The JNDI name of the connection factory to use to connect to the queue Follow the same path as above to get the connection factory for the above queue, e.g. TestConnectionFactory and its JNDI name e.g. jms/TestConnectionFactory The URL and port of the WebLogic server running the above queue Check the JMS server for the above queue and the managed server it is targeted to, for example soa_server1. • The Customer Experience Revolution is Now

  To conclude this week’s focus on customer experience, I’ll end by recapping how my week began in New York City at The Experience Revolution. We all know that customers increasingly call the shots, and that winning or losing depends on how well we manage to meet their expectations. Today’s customers have a multitude of choices and are quick to jump ship following a poor experience. As a result, delivering an experience that is relevant, interactive, engaging, and consistent across channels and fostering rewarding relationships are increasingly important to business success.  It is only through exceptional customer experiences that companies can expect to acquire new customers and maintain their loyalty.  Over 400 of us gathered at Gotham Hall on Monday night to hear Oracle President Mark Hurd introduce Oracle Customer Experience, a cross-stack suite of customer experience products that include Oracle RightNow CX Cloud Service, Oracle Endeca, Oracle ATG Web Commerce, Oracle WebCenter,Oracle Siebel CRM, Oracle Fusion CRM, Oracle Social Network, and Oracle Knowledge Management. I'd encourage you check out this video to hear Mark explain why having a good product isn't good enough in the wake of the customer experience revolution.   Az Oracle Database 11g verziójától már OLTP adatbázisok is hatékonyan tömöríthetok az Advanced Compression funkcióval. Nem csak a tárolandó adatok mennyisége csökken ezáltal felére, vagy akár negyedére, de az adatbázis teljesítménye is javulhat, amennyiben I/O korlátos a rendszer (és általában az). Hogy pontosan mekkora tömörítés várható az Advanced Compression bevezetésével, az kiválóan becsülheto a Compression Advisor eszközzel. Ez nem csak az OLTP tömörítés mértékét, de 11gR2 verziótól kezdve a HCC tömörítés arányát is becsülni tudja, amely Exadata Database Machine, Pillar Axiom illetve ZFS Storage alkalmazásával érheto el. A HCC tömörítés becsléséhez csak 11gR2 adatbázisra van szükség, nem kell hozzá a speciális célhardver (Exadata, Pillar, ZFS). A Compression Advisor valójában a DBMS_COMPRESSION package használatával érheto el. A package-hez tartozik 6 konstans, amellyel a kívánt tömörítési szintek választhatók ki: Constant Type Value Description COMP_NOCOMPRESS NUMBER 1 No compression COMP_FOR_OLTP NUMBER 2 OLTP compression COMP_FOR_QUERY_HIGH NUMBER 4 High compression level for query operations COMP_FOR_QUERY_LOW NUMBER 8 Low compression level for query operations COMP_FOR_ARCHIVE_HIGH NUMBER 16 High compression level for archive operations COMP_FOR_ARCHIVE_LOW NUMBER 32 Low compression level for archive operations A GET_COMPRESSION_RATIO tárolt eljárás elemzi a tömöríteni kívánt táblát. Mindig csak egy táblát, vagy opcionálisan annak egy partícióját tudja elemezni úgy, hogy a tábláról készít egy másolatot egy külön erre a célra kijelölt/létrehozott táblatérre. Amennyiben az elemzést egyszerre több tömörítési szintre futtatjuk, úgy a tábláról annyi másolatot készít. A jó közelítésu becslés (+-5%) feltétele, hogy táblánként/partíciónként minimum 1 millió sor legyen. 11gR1 esetében még a DBMS_COMP_ADVISOR csomag GET_RATIO eljárása volt használatos, de ez még nem támogatta a HCC becslést. Érdemes még megnézni és kipróbálni a Tyler Muth blogjában publikált formázó eszközt, amivel a compression advisor kimenete alakítható jól értelmezheto formátumúvá. Végül összegezném mit is tartalmaz az Advanced Compression opció, mivel gyakran nem világos a felhasználóknak miért kell fizetni: Data Guard Network Compression Data Pump Compression (COMPRESSION=METADATA_ONLY does not require the Advanced Compression option) Multiple RMAN Compression Levels (RMAN DEFAULT COMPRESS does not require the Advanced Compression option) OLTP Table Compression SecureFiles Compression and Deduplication Ez alapján RMAN esetében például a default compression (BZIP2) szint ingyen használható, viszont az új ZLIB Advanced Compression opciót igényel. • Security Alert For CVE-2010-4476 Released

  Hello, this is Eric Maurice again. Oracle just released a Security Alert with a fix for the vulnerability CVE-2010-4476, which affects Oracle Java SE and Oracle Java For Business. This vulnerability is present in Java running on servers as well as standalone Java desktop applications. Its successful exploitation by a malicious attacker can result in a complete denial of service for the affected servers. While only recently publicly disclosed, a number of Internet sites have since then reproduced details about this vulnerability, including exploit codes, which may result in allowing a malicious attacker to create a denial of service condition against the targeted system. Oracle therefore strongly recommends that affected organizations apply this fix as soon as possible. Please note that a fix for this vulnerability will also be included in the upcoming Java Critical Patch Update (Java SE and Java for Business Critical Patch Update - February 2011), which will be released on February 15th 2011. Note that the impact of this vulnerability on desktops is minimal: the affected applications or applets running in Internet browsers for example, might stop responding and may need to be restarted; however the desktop itself will not be compromised (i.e. no compromise at the desktop OS level). Oracle therefore recommends that consumers use the Java auto-update mechanism to get this fix. This will prompt them to install the latest version of the Java Runtime Environment 6 update 24 or higher (JRE), which includes the fix for this vulnerability. JRE 6 update 24 will also be distributed with the Java SE and Java for Business Critical Patch Update - February 2011. • RDA and Fusion Middleware Diagnostic Framework Integration

  Further to my last blog entry "FMw Diagnostic Framework : Automatic Capture of Diagnostic Data Upon First Failure!" I have spent some time exploring how Remote Diagnostic Agent (RDA) integrates with Diagnostic Framework. Remote Diagnostic Agent, by default, collects the information about the last 10 incidents which have been captured in the Automatic Diagnostic Repository (ADR). This information can be located via RDA's Start Page Menu system. See screenshot below. Screenshot - Viewing Diagnostic Framework Incident Information in a RDA Package Note: In the next release of RDA - version 4.30 - the Diagnostic Repository menu label will have it's own position in the weblogic managed server sub menu hierarchy rather than be a child menu item of the logs menuDiagnostic Framework is also capable of launching RDA engine and including the output in an incident package. This is achieved via the command "IPS GENERATE PACKAGE". The RDA output is written to DOMAIN_HOME/servers/<server name>/adr/diag/ofm/<domain name>/<server name>/incpkg/pkg_[number]/seq_[number]/rda The RDA collected files are best viewed (as shown in the screenshot above) by opening the RDA Start Page - "DFW__start.htm" - from this directory in a browser. If you do not have a browser available on the host machine, zip the contents of the rda directory and transfer and extract to a machine which has a browser.  The explanation of the integration goes a little deeper. • Knowing your user is key--Part 1: Motivation

  I was thinking where the best place to start in this blog would be and finally came back to a theme that I think is pretty critical--successful gamification in the enterprise comes down to knowing your user.  Lots of folks will say that gamification is about understanding that everyone is a gamer.  But at least in my org, that argument won't play for a lot of people.  Pun intentional.  It's not that I don't see the attraction to the idea--really, very few people play no games at all.  If they don't play video games, they might play solitaire on their computer.  They may play card games, or some type of sport.  Mario Herger has some great facts on how much game playing there is going on at his Enterprise-Gamification.com website. But at the end of the day, I can't sell that into my organization well.  We are Oracle.  We make big, serious software designed run your whole business.  We don't make Angry Birds out of your financial reporting tools.  So I stick with the argument that works better.  Gamification techniques are really just good principals of user experience packaged a little differently.  Feedback?  We already know feedback is important when using software.  Progress indicators?  Got that too.  Game mechanics may package things in a more explicit way but it's not really "new".  To know how to use game mechanics, and what a user experience team is important for, is totally understanding who our users are and what they are motivated by. For several years, I taught college psychology courses, including Motivation.  Motivation is generally broken down into intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.  There's intrinsic, which comes from within the individual.  And there's extrinsic, which comes from outside the individual.  Intrinsic motivation is that motivation that comes from just a general sense of pleasure in the doing of something.  For example, I like to cook.  I like to cook a lot.  The kind of cooking I think is just fun makes other people--people who don't like to cook--cringe.  Like the cake I made this week--the star-spangled rhapsody from The Cake Bible: two layers of meringue, two layers of genoise flavored with a raspberry eau de vie syrup, whipped cream with berries and a mousseline buttercream, also flavored with raspberry liqueur and topped with fresh raspberries and blueberries. I love cooking--I ask for cooking tools for my birthday and Christmas, I take classes like sushi making and knife skills for fun.  I like reading about you can make an emulsion of egg yolks, melted butter and lemon, cook slowly and transform them into a sauce hollandaise (my use of all the egg yolks that didn't go into the aforementioned cake).  And while it's nice when people like what I cook, I don't do it for that.  I do it because I think it's fun.  My former boss, Ultan Ó Broin, loves to fish in the sea off the coast of Ireland.  Not because he gets prizes for it, or awards, but because it's fun.  To quote a note he sent me today when I asked if having been recently ill kept him from the beginning of mackerel season, he told me he had already been out and said "I can fish when on a deathbed" (read more of Ultan's work, see his blogs on User Assistance and Translation.). That's not the kind of intensity you get about something you don't like to do.  I'm sure you can think of something you do just because you like it. So how does that relate to gamification?  Gamification in the enterprise space is about uncovering the game within work.  Gamification is about tapping into things people already find motivating.  But to do that, you need to know what that user is motivated by. Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is one of those areas where over-the-top gamification seems to work (not to plug a competitor in this space, but you can search on what Bunchball* has done with a company just a little north of us on 101 for the CRM crowd).  Sales people are naturally competitive and thrive on that plus recognition of their sales work.  You can use lots of game mechanics like leaderboards and challenges and scorecards with this type of user and they love it.  Show my whole org I'm leading in sales for the quarter?  Bring it on!  However, take the average accountant and show how much general ledger activity they have done in the last week and expose it to their whole org on a leaderboard and I think you'd see a lot of people looking for a new job.  Why?  Because in general, accountants aren't extraverts who thrive on competition in their work.  That doesn't mean there aren't game mechanics that would work for them, but they won't be the same game mechanics that work for sales people.  It's a different type of user and they are motivated by different things.
