• Looking for a specific featured content slider script - PHP (and jQuery, I think)

  I was looking around a few days ago for a new script to replace the featured content area on my website's current implementation. Randomly, I can across a gorgeous one that I have not been able to find again because, like an idiot, I didn't bookmark the page. It's difficult to explain what the slider looked like, so I'll try to make a crude ASCII image of it: When you would hover your mouse over one of the "title" areas that were visible, the rest of the tags would slide to the right and show the one you were hovering on. You could also hover the mouse over a tab on the right and the tabs would collapse left for the same effect. I don't know if this particular effect has a specific name to it, but for the life of me I cannot find this script again, or anything even like it. It was gorgeous. I've resorted to combing through my browser history, but there is sooooo much of it, and I cannot remember what day I saw it. So, if any of you know either what the name of this effect is, or even BETTER, what script I'm talking about, I would REAAAAALLLLYYY appreciate a link! Thanks as always! -Sootah

• How to sort a date array in PHP

  I have an array in this format: Array ( [0] => Array ( [28th February, 2009] => 'bla' ) [1] => Array ( [19th March, 2009] => 'bla' ) [2] => Array ( [5th April, 2009] => 'bla' ) [3] => Array ( [19th April, 2009] => 'bla' ) [4] => Array ( [2nd May, 2009] => 'bla' ) ) I want to sort them out in the ascending order of the dates (based on the month, day, and year). What's the best way to do that? Originally the emails are being fetched in the MySQL date format, so its possible for me to get the array in this state: Array [ ['2008-02-28']='some text', ['2008-03-06']='some text' ] Perhaps when its in this format, I can loop through them, remove all the '-' (hyphen) marks so they are left as integars, sort them using array_sort() and loop through them yet again to sort them? Would prefer if there was another way as I'd be doing 3 loops with this per user. Thanks.   I used message box as seperate dialog instead of sheets for mac OS, now i m working on it to spawn a sheet as message box instead of seperate one. I have tried setting the message box as a modal one: (messagebox.setWindowModality(QtCore.Qt.WindoModal)) and setting message box, parent dialog window flags as sheet (parentDialog.setWindowFlags(QtCore.Qt.Sheet) messagebox.setWindowFlags(QtCore.Qt.Sheet)) But the above commands are not working to create a sheet instead of seperate dialog. Does anyone have an idea of how to solve?

• I need some help cropping an image in PHP (GD)

  http://i.imgur.com/foT9u.jpg Using that image as an example, here's what I need to do: Crop the blue square to have the same proportional ratio as that of the black square From doing that, I should then be able to resize the blue square to fit into the black square without losing stretching it - It'll retain its proportions. Note: The blue square must be cropped 'from the center'. The original center should remain the center after the crop (it can't be cropped from the top left, for example). Here's what I'm thinking needs to be done (using the, landscape, blue square as the example): Figure out the difference between the black squares width and height Figure out the difference between the blue squares width and height This should tell me how much to crop the blue square by and with how much of a 'top offset' Once it's cropped to fit the black squares proportions, it can then be resized I've been messing around with code similar to: if (BLACK_WIDTH > BLACK_HEIGHT) { $diffHeight = BLACK_WIDTH - BLACK_HEIGHT; $newHeight = $blue_Height - $blue_Height; echo $newHeight; } And using Photoshop to try and get a feel for how this should be done, but it continues to fail .< How should I go about doing this? How can I figure out how much to crop by (depending on if the blue square is landscape or portrait)? How do I then get the offset to retain the blue squares center?

• Mailer issue, PHP values do not change

  I have a script that runs once every month and send out stats to clients, now the stats are displayed in normal text and in the shape of a Pie Graph, now if I run the script mannually from the command line all info on the graphs are correct, but when the cron job executes the script the values for the first client are displaying on the graphs of all clients. but the text is correct.   Hi there i've built a new script (from scratch not a CMS) and i've done alot of work on reducing memory usage and the time it takes for the page to be displayed (caching HTML etc) There's one thing that i'm not sure about though. Take a simple example of an article with a comments section. If the comment form posts to another page that then redirects back to the article page I won't have the problem of people clicking refresh and resending the information. However if I do it that way, I have to load up my script twice use twice as much memory and it takes twice as long whilst i'm still only displaying the page once. Here's an example from my load log. The first load of the article is from the cache, the second rebuilds the page after the comment is posted. Example 1 0 queries using 650856 bytes of memory in 0.018667 - domain.com/article/1/my_article.html 9 queries using 1325723 bytes of memory in 0.075825 - domain.com/article/1/my_article/newcomment.html 0 queries using 650856 bytes of memory in 0.029449 - domain.com/article/1/my_article.html Example 2 0 queries using 650856 bytes of memory in 0.023526 - domain.com/article/1/my_article.html 9 queries using 1659096 bytes of memory in 0.060032 - domain.com/article/1/my_article.html Obviously the time fluctuates so you can't really compare that. But as you can see with the first method I use more memory and it takes longer to load. BUT the first method avoides the refresh problem. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best approach or for alternative ways to avoid the extra load (admittadely minimal but i'd still like to avoid it) whilst also avoiding the refresh problem?

• URL flow when writing a wizard in PHP

  Hello, I am writing a basic wizard for my web site. It will have 4 steps, and each needs to have its own URL. Each step must first validate a form before moving on. If the form for a given step fails to validate, I don't want the URL to change. But if it passes, I do want it to move on. What is the preferred way to write this? Using javascript alone to validate is not secure enough. I have 2 ideas so far but I don't love either: 1) Post the form to the same script and use a header() redirect to the next step if it passes. 2) Send an ajax post to validate and then use location.href to send user to the next step if it passes. Is there a better way to do this? Thanks, Brian

I'm near about 1.8 megs of text (which I found via firebug), it seems as the writing is taking more time than the script to run.. is there a way to increase this write speed? Thank you in advance.

• PHP + GD: imagetruecolortopalette not keeping transparency

  I am using GD to output an image that is a truecolor+alpha channel PNG file using imagepng just fine. However, I would like to have the ability to also output an ie6-compatible 256-color PNG as well. According to the official documentation for imagetruecolortopalette: The code has been modified to preserve as much alpha channel information as possible in the resulting palette, in addition to preserving colors as well as possible. However, I am finding that the results of this function do not properly preserve any transparency at all. I used this firefox image with text superimposed on top of it as a test, and all the function did was give me a white background and a weird dark blue border. I know that I can't hope to preserve the full alpha channel, but surely this function would at least pick up on the transparent background. Is there something I'm missing? Are there any alternative approaches that I can take?

  I'm trying to compare two entries in a database, so when a user makes a change, I can fetch both database entries and compare them to see what the user changed, so I would have an output similar to: User changed $fieldName from $originalValue to $newValue I've looked into this and came accross array_diff but it doesn't give me the output format I need. Before I go ahead and write a function that does this, and returns it as a nice $mtextFormatDifferenceString, can anyone point me in the direction of a solution that already does this?   i have seen some parsing code, thats really long, but it doesn't involve replacing stuff inside an opened file using file_get_contents() for example. im talking about say parsing a .doc into .html format, they read the file then output it in html. i have tried this using arrays and preg_replace but it just doesn't seem as clean as other code. anyone know the basic concept of parsing? thanks, tell me if im not clear

  My application requires the user to enter their business name, which the application will automatically create into a unique identifier to be used in URLs, ie "Bob's Cafe" will become "bobs-cafe" But if there are duplicate names I would like the application to add a number so if there is already a "bobs-cafe" we will use "bobs-cafe-1" and likewise if there is already a "bobs-cafe-1" we will use "bobs-cafe-2" Ive used explode and also looked at a regular expressions but I dont know the best way to approach this.
